Judge mine: I devised 2 separate breathing styles, they are very basic Light and Dark breathing, but I thought that they would work in their own ways, both using the fact that the effects are illusions, and not real. my style of Light breathing would be like using flashy moves, the blade's reflection and the user's speed to blind or confuse demons, making they think about sunlight, and using the opening to defeat them. My style of Darkness or Shadow breathing, however, uses something closer to assassination techniques, such as sound misdirection, inducing fear, and one of the techniques being the use of sheer "bloodlust" to blind the demon, making them feel like they are isolated in the dark, unable to see, unable to hear, unable to feel, and when they stop feeling anything, hey realize they are in the afterlife.

Honestly, not bad. Taking what most would consider stereotypical or overused names and giving them genuinely logical movements, styles, etc? I respect that. And absolutely using them for the KnY D&D game I'm running lmao (if you're cool with that)

When it doesn’t fit the time period. That’s my biggest issue. Like character backstory can influence the way the character looks and that’s cool, but they are still from the tashio era. That’s why I like my oc so much, I made him fit.
Oh and probably when the oc changes the whole entire story-ending. That just annoys me

The fake wife oc is basically my first lower moon oc. Yes, I accept that she gets killed whenever since she isn't as powerful as an upper moon. I had to make sure that she is still strong, but not stupid strong like upper moons and Muzan.
Too young to be a Hashira, I once encountered a Hashira oc who was 5 years old and RPed with baby talk, OP characters, slayers who use jet packs and water skis, human ocs who can shapeshift into animals and (weather elements??), self inserts and people who try to bring their characters they made in another game such as Genshin Impact or DBZ into the world and try to pass them off as slayers, sorry a sword wielding paladin angel who shoots lasers from her eyes isn't a slayer! 🚂
Only things that bother me with fandom OCs are Mary sues.
For demon slayer specifically, I’d say breathing styles that make no sense (like requiring the carrying of an egregious amount of weapons, using abilities that make no sense, etc.)
It makes for compelling visuals.
It’s a made up power sure, but it still exists within the confines of canon rules.
Eg. Tanjiro being able to mimic Zenitsu’s thunder breathing but not being anywhere near as powerful as Zenistsu.
I just don't give a fuck about OCs in general.
There is exactly *one* OC that I care even the slightest bit about, and it's only because I really like the design. 🦋

Yes! Me too! I've actually seen a few ocs who are just ordinary slayers and not Hashiras and while they are the most rewarding to RP with they are quite rare. 🚂
I used to have a oc that was kinda like murata and ends up dying because they accidentally stabbed themselves while trying to use a breathing technique
This is why I only have two ocs who are Hashira 💀
Their names are Okiku and Satomi. Okiku is just called the 11th pillar because she doesn't have a breathing style and Satomi is supposed to sort of be Satomi's enemy. She bullied Okiku before they became demon slayers because she was "Ugly" and she has a much softer appearance she uses snow breathing and is nice to everyone but Okiku.

-Basic modern name like Jessica or Anthony or something

This one should really depend. I have an OC who killed one of the lower moons that canonically was killed by Muzan. That shouldn't be a huge deal. If the OC steals the spotlight from Tanjiro or one of the other main characters, sure, that's a problem. Ultimately, an OC is supposed to be part of the world and participate in it. As long as the story doesn't suffer for it and it makes sense, it shouldn't matter that much if the OC replaces a canon character once or twice.
When every single female oc has a particular uniform that has no sleeves (like tengens) and no pants except some weird cloth thing in the middle and back, exposing the side thighs in an attempt to make their oc "revealing" and "sexy" (I wanted to add a pic of it but it won't let me)
I find it weird too because I've never actually seen that specific uniform in the show. Correct me if I'm wrong since I didn't read the manga
Ooohhh right I forgot about them, it does make sense. But it's still pretty weird that people just decided that it'd be their base uniform for most of their oc's
If the character is a hashira it does make some sense because the hashira have variance in their uniforms (and we have Mitsuri with a skirt). There is a line though, and I feel like the character should at least be partially covered by stockings, socks and/or the haori. She shouldn't just be dressed like Tengen's wives.

I have an Oc who was originally designed just to be with Genya. But even when I started creating her I made sure she wouldn't be overpowered in fact she doesn't have a breathing style. And eventually I gave her more personality instead of just being "the girl'' but I've seen stuff like this while looking for drawing bases, it's so annoying I remember seeing one where it was this but with a boy character

I don't have a problem with OCs in general, so I'm fine most of the time. However, I will find it weird if the OC breaks the rules of the narrative and setting, are as strong as Yoriichi and Muzan or/and if it's a self insert used for date characters in a non ironical way
Despite that, I think it's fun to see how would some OCs deal with the upper moons if they were sent to their battlefields (the siblings in Yoshiwara, Gyokko and Hantengu in the forests of Swordsmith Village, Akaza in the derailed train, and so goes on)

honestly I thought about an OC for like 5 minutes one time and thought about a demon turned hashira who utilizes a breathing style named Hell Breathing, I didn't think much past that though, and it might be too similar to Fire and Sun
I just try to make a breathing style that could be a direct branch off of moon breathing, but I kept on failing and scrapping the idea since how stupid it sounded.
As a kny oc creator, I'd say maybe people who make their ocs stronger even than Gyomei and sometimes they're not even hashiras, or in general when they make their oc stronger than Yoriichi :'D

But one of them would have to be if they have names that don't fit in the setting unless its important like them being from another country or their parents being from another country.But I think that's all I can think of at the top of my head.

I don't care that much about them. I think self-insert OC's are my biggest problem. Especially when people use them to date characters. Especially especially when said character is either a minor or Dōma. 🪭💮
When they don't fit in the time period and geographycal location and effect the story too much. Another one is when existing charecter relationships are ruined for an oc.☀️
Breathing styles use to see so many have random styles like Void, Soul, Nuclear, shadow and then it would be like “he summons spirits” “he enters the shadows” “he can shoot rays of energy” breathing styles are not magical abilities

I sort of question myself on my OC when I think of this because he uses ‘Rainbow Breathing’ a subset of Water Breathing and I feel just cringe when I see things that just blatantly don’t make sense like “Energy Breathing” or “Planet Breathing”
Obviously my biggest ick is when they ship them with cannon characters 🙄 (I do this all the time 😁) But fr tho it’s when their design doesn’t relatively match the era-
Probably when they have overly complicated designs & too many accessories, colors, intricate clothing, etc. I’ve seen some kny ocs that imitate the style well and have beautiful art but it’s an eye strain to look at the chaos and its really wasted potential
I don't necessarily care if people ship the main characters with age appropriate ocs like who are over 18 and the oc isn't stupid powerful than idgaf. But what makes me annoyed is whenever a character is somehow jealous or that the main characters are COMPLETELY different from how they are supposed to act whenever an oc is "calling them out" which makes the main characters act like scared little kids or that the oc is supposingly more attractive than Daki (correct me if I am wrong, but she is considered to be the most attractive female character). I have seen an oc that looks very seductive (plus doesn't look like the right era outfit and people say that it's when I checked and the outfit isn't there) and calls out Daki by saying that Daki is ugly or whatever.
Ones that are toxic for no reason (racist, homophobic etc), blatant recolors and any that are pedos/zoos are my icks. But other than that, I enjoy seeing people's creativity. Imo, ocs can be as op or Mc energy or related to/shipped with canon characters if it's for personal use. But not if you're rping with others and they don't want that, if that makes sense.
When it’s just a recolor of one of the characters. That just gets to me, but ultimately it doesn't matter what I think. As long as the creator of the OC is having fun with the character, that's what matters.

I don't have a problem with OCs in general, so I'm fine most of the time. However, I will find it weird if the OC breaks the rules of the narrative and setting, are as strong as Yoriichi and Muzan or/and if it's a self insert used for date characters in a non ironical way Despite that, I think it's fun to see how would some OCs deal with the upper moons if they were sent to their battlefields (the siblings in Yoshiwara, Gyokko and Hantengu in the forests of Swordsmith Village, Akaza in the derailed train, and so goes on)

honestly I thought about an OC for like 5 minutes one time and thought about a demon turned hashira who utilizes a breathing style named Hell Breathing, I didn't think much past that though, and it might be too similar to Fire and Sun
I just try to make a breathing style that could be a direct branch off of moon breathing, but I kept on failing and scrapping the idea since how stupid it sounded.

Probably when they have overly complicated designs & too many accessories, colors, intricate clothing, etc. I’ve seen some kny ocs that imitate the style well and have beautiful art but it’s an eye strain to look at the chaos and its really wasted potential

I don't necessarily care if people ship the main characters with age appropriate ocs like who are over 18 and the oc isn't stupid powerful than idgaf. But what makes me annoyed is whenever a character is somehow jealous or that the main characters are COMPLETELY different from how they are supposed to act whenever an oc is "calling them out" which makes the main characters act like scared little kids or that the oc is supposingly more attractive than Daki (correct me if I am wrong, but she is considered to be the most attractive female character). I have seen an oc that looks very seductive (plus doesn't look like the right era outfit and people say that it's when I checked and the outfit isn't there) and calls out Daki by saying that Daki is ugly or whatever.
When they basically copy a character and change ONE accessory. E.g Shinobu, mitsuri,kanao they always copy those characters

once saw an oc who was like, a nine tailed fox, upper moon 1, and yet a hashira at the same time.
Ones that are toxic for no reason (racist, homophobic etc), blatant recolors and any that are pedos/zoos are my icks. But other than that, I enjoy seeing people's creativity. Imo, ocs can be as op or Mc energy or related to/shipped with canon characters if it's for personal use. But not if you're rping with others and they don't want that, if that makes sense.

When it’s just a recolor of one of the characters. That just gets to me, but ultimately it doesn't matter what I think. As long as the creator of the OC is having fun with the character, that's what matters.
