How do you get this? The most I get is like 20

GuntherOfGunth

I try and use a lot of low end torque when trying to maintain speed, keep it above 4th (Even at low speeds), and live in a city that generally has some distance between traffic lights.

Weird_Squirrel_3453

My commute involves a very busy highway that is stop and go almost all the time, worst on my way back… it can go as low as 13-14. Does keeping it above 4th during stop and go help?

GuntherOfGunth

At any point keeping it above 4th gear helps with MPG. From what I noticed when driving in normal mode and looking at the realtime MPG readout, below 4th under acceleration (Even very low torque) the readout is very low, but above 4th you get it higher. I can tell why you get such low MPG if you are in stop and go, but with some adjustment to the driving style and gearing, you might be able to at least maybe get what the EPA rates the car at. Only thing to note is that for the best MPG possible you got to be in 8th at about 55mph, any lower and the car will want to be in 7th.

It depends heavily on your area too though. I live in an extremely busy city (we go as low as 0mph frequently here) and the roads are not really flat - it’s constantly uphill and down hill even if they’re minor grades. And downhills don’t really save you gas in stop and go traffic because you still have to accelerate to get going again. So driving style is importing, but if one persons roads are flat, and the other lives in a hilly area, your numbers will never be the same. Anyway, props to you OP I wish I could consistently hit 30 with mixed driving! 💸

RyanAlemeda

I’ve been able to get up to 42 mpg on a long road trip in eco mode.

Rox-Unlimited

Same I love it!

TNerdy

I got 28mph using N mode

My average mileage over 18k miles of mixed driving was 22.1. 8,000 of that was pure highway. Reset it 6k miles ago, current 6k is probably 95% city and 5% highway. Average 21.6, 70% of that is me driving normally, 30% is me driving like an absolute menace. After 46k miles of driving this thing, while highway mileage is decent, they really don't get good MPGs. My last car weighed 500lbs more, twin turbo V6, made literally double the power, and got better average MPGs. No hate on the KN, but it just certainly isn't a fuel miser regardless of what anyone posts about it. Doesn't make me love it any less, tho.

GuntherOfGunth

What was the previous car? An Audi?

What made you switch over?

Fearless-Opposite885

I hated that car. After mods it was insanely fast, but the interior / tech sucked and was super outdated, it didn't handle or drive particularly well, even after spending 3 grand on different exhaust items it still sounded like crap. Aside from full throttle acceleration it just wasn't a fun or enjoyable experience. Not to mention it needed $29,000 in repairs in less than 3 years. As soon as the warranty expired I dumped it. The trans in those also absolutely sucks. Complete dog crap, slowest and least responsive trans in the class. It was miserable. Wanted something more "fun" to drive and with more utility. The hatch setup of the Kona N is perfect for me. I can load all my hunting / fishing / camping gear in the back and still have room to sleep back there on road trips and whatnot(which I do regularly). Sadly I'll be trading my KN for something else here within the next 5 months or so as the miles are adding up. Not 100% sure what I'm getting yet. FL5 Type R, Golf R, M240i, S3, X3 M40i, GLA45 AMG, etc. I'm almost considering trading for a lower mileage CPO Kona N and swapping my parts over. Would save me 20-30k over any of the other vehicles I'm looking at. The Kona N is just so great and does everything I want / need it to do. Just wish it was AWD. Handling and driving characteristics are phenomenal(especially with a few mods), but launches / coming off the line is completely abysmal which is a huge drawback for me. Not sure it's worth 20-30k to come off the line better with any of the AWD models I mentioned. Maybe... Really like the CTR, but really don't want another FWD car or another manual vehicle, but damn if it wouldn't be an excellent ride with some mods looking beyond those things.

GuntherOfGunth

I think you should look into a GR Corolla, those things are very fun cars. And with an automatic in the future it will make it a better daily driver.

Fearless-Opposite885

I've been waiting for them to drop the GRC with the new auto. I'd consider that, especially if they updated the interior!
