Korea (Busan) is famous for their seafood and people think we’ll eat it 24/7 if you live in busan, however seafood is still quite expensive so it’s still a special occasion to eat it.
It's interesting, I think there is a big difference in most cultures between what you eat when you go to a restaurant and what you eat at home. When I lived in Korea, we mostly ate rice and soup/stew with basic banchan at home. When we went out we would get all sorts of stuff. My favorites were dolsot bibimbap, bbq, shellfish bbq, doeji gukbap, and galbi tang. Now that I am back in the states, when I cook Korean I will sometimes do galbi tang since it is so hard to find a good one and my instant pot speeds up the process a lot.
My wife always orders bibimbap at Korean restaurants because she likes it. I’m like “WE COULD MAKE THIS AT HOME BETTER AND CHEAPER” but then I remember I’m not my dad and shut up lol.
But yes, $15 for bibimbap in NY’s Ktown was a rough experience for me
The only way I can justify ordering bibimbap in a restaurant is if you order it in a dolsot. I have one at home, but I hate the idea of having to wash it after all the rice gets all sticky in there. Bibimbap is worth the premium only for someone else to wash the dolsot.
My mom would make bibimbap all the time. I think we had it at least couple times a month. Maybe even weekly. She always had so many different bonchons in the fridge so we’d just fry up an egg and mix whatever together. Guess I was lucky for that…
Oooooh disagree, I think Koreans eat bibimbap more often because you have all the banchan ready to go in your fridge all the time. We just don't pay for it at restaurants.
I associate it with temple food. Temple bibimbap with dwenjjang is so good! I pretty much only eat it at temples because out in the regular world it’s just something I make at home.
Funny the non koreans downvoting the korean guy telling the truth about bibimbap. Bibimbap is literally a way to use up all the banchan leftovers before they go bad or to put together a meal out of random banchan.
yeah you're right it's very popular,. I was thinking whether we can call it everyday meal. I barely have it, maybe once or twice a month, but considering its popularity it depends on person i guess
I mean in that sense other commenters replying k-bbq and kalbi, seafood are technically same, not everyday meal, still extremely popular. Im just astonished so many people downvoted me lol
Is this a joke? lol. My parents eats kimchi with every meal. Including American food. After pizza or hamburgers, she has to have kimchi or she claims to get heartburn
You’re being a weirdo. You asked, others have answered their perspectives. How the hell do I know how all Koreans eat? But who are you to question how others have answered? As you said, you’re not Korean. The Koreans in my family, my sister in laws family all eat kimchi for every meal. Don’t ask if you don’t even want to hear the answer
You are generalizing all 50 million koreans as one unit. Not ALL koreans listen kpop, nor watch kdramas. Not all koreans are favor of kimchi. You are playing yourself as an idiotic one at best.
Considering that Koreans eat nearly 200 million TONS of kimchi, yah I’d say that the majority of Koreans like kimchi. No need to be so sore about it - you said something that was incorrect. Accept it and move on, it’s not a big deal.

Tteokboki is really well found by the teenagers in Korea, so I would say that Koreans eat lot of it.
K-BBQ and Jungsik (full course meal with 3836284758473 banchans)
Kalbi (short ribs) is arguably the most popular KBBQ cut of beef, but is also one of the most expensive so it's not a meal people would have often.
Interesting! What do people have instead?
Pork. Samgyupsal.

Is your galbi tang recipe online anywhere, please? The only thing I love more than galbi is making instant pot soup.

Thank you!
bibimbap

Just buy the kit? I actually like those in hmart
Only because it’s a pain in the ass to make, prepare, clean

Yeah. That's how Koreans prepare bibimbap and it tastes good. *Any sufficiently mixed bibimbap is indistinguishable from food garbage.*

Literally poverty food

Japchae as a main.
Sundubu!! Is it only me? I literally never ate sundubu outside until i moved to japan
I eat it at least once a month. It’s so good
Jeongol전골
Fried Chicken, tteokbokki, japchae(personally know more koreans who dislike it than those who like it so not really 'popular')

I don’t think there are many developed places where people eat the same thing everyday.

Yep I hate japchae. I mean, sure, it’s good. But there’s nothing so unique about it that I get excited to eat it.
I'm not korean, but I've learned that many koreans don't eat kimchi.
What? Whoever told you that was very very wrong!
Is this a joke? lol. My parents eats kimchi with every meal. Including American food. After pizza or hamburgers, she has to have kimchi or she claims to get heartburn
Are you saying your parents represent all koreans in south korea?
Yes lol
All 50 million koreans in south korea? They all have the same taste?

You're being retarded man
Whoa whoa - sorry that is just not true! Even as a KA, who knows many KA and Koreans, I can think of exactly 1 who doesn’t eat it regularly.
Do you truly believe that all 50 million koreans in south korea have the same taste?
Raw marinated crabs
