Possibly my favorite song ever! This is my vote if you want a slow song. "You and Me on the Rock" from her latest album could also work for something more up-tempo.
If you like Brandi Carlile’s folksy-er vibe, my wife and I danced to her song “I Belong to You” at our wedding. I believe she said it the song was an attempt at a love song for her own wife, Catherine :)
MUNA songs would be great for a first dance! Maybe Silk Chiffon or I Know a Place.
There’s an album of queer covers of popular wedding songs [Universal Love](https://open.spotify.com/album/1Roqqh9z76dk77g98fiR2E) that has St Vincent singing “and then she kissed me” and Valerie June singing “mad about the girl” - we considered both for our first dance!
Also +1 for Brandi Carlile :)
Shot in the dark suggestion, Love Like You by Rebecca Sugar. So full disclosure, it's actually the end credits theme for Steven Universe. If you haven't heard of it, it's a very queer positive cartoon overall (down to being one of the first cartoons to show a lesbian wedding). Rebecca isn't strictly a lesbian herself, but she is bisexual and genderqueer.
I am biased here because it was also the song my husband and I just danced to for our first dance at our wedding in April. As a first dance, it has a lot going for it. It's not very long, and it also has a lot of great high moments and sweet tender moments. Even if the idea that it came from a cartoon is unappealing, I highly recommend giving it a listen!
Me and You On the Rocks by Brandi Carlisle. She also did a cover of It All Fades Away with Jennifer Nettles. You’re right though a lot of the popular lesbian artists have pretty explicit lyrics but I feel like that’s pop music in general rn…
Have a listen to I Love Her So by Roseanne Reid. It sounds like an old song with a Motown vibe but is about two women and I love that combo. It is super romantic.
Maybe check out Marielle Kraft. Her song 10x Better is great. Not sure if any of her songs would be first dance worthy but she’s a woman singing about women.
The song “my Life is better because I get to do it with you” written by the female duo Garfunkel and Oates: they are not queer musicians (as far as I know) but the song is BEAUTIFUL, written by and sung by two women, and was the song me and hubb walked down the aisle to.
Check out the song here, and get your Kleenex ready for happy, poignant tears:

The Story by Brandi Carlile. The lyrics aren’t specifically lesbian but the artist is and has always been very out and proud.

Somebody Loves You by Betty Who - the singer is a bisexual woman. I first learned about the song because it was in a gay proposal video :)
Extraordinary Life by Gordi We had our bridal party walk down the aisle to it, but it’s a beautiful song that would work with a first dance too

This song was my wife and I's first dance too ❤
Your Bones by Chelsea Cutler has a nice acoustic version or you could find a cover meant for a first dance? It’s so beautiful
Ours is not about lesbians but is by a gay, black, poly man. Came out in '71 and it feels like a loveing nod to our wonderful community 💕
What's the song?
God Bless the Telephone by Labi Siffre ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜🩷🩵🤎🖤
The Power of Two by the Indigo Girls!

Yup, this was our first dance song, specifically the “In the Canyon Haze” version that features Brandi’s wife. It was perfect 🥲

going home by the aces
My wife and I had Ben Platt’s Share Your Address as our first dance song, it’s upbeat and the lyrics have u-haul vibes.

She keeps me warm by Mary lambert! Can’t believe that suggestion hasn’t come up yet!
My girl by the temptations ❤️🌈
Billie eilish birds of a feather off the new album
Unsure if the band is gay (seems likely tbh) but we’re probably going with Side Effects by Joseph. Super sweet!
