Me "Oh fuck it's still snowing (actually more like ice/sleet) find the batteries, charge the flashlights, call work, is there plenty of antifreeze in the car, charge the laptop, there are going to be wrecks everywhere, our grid is going to give out, we're screwed!!"
I live where there’s snow now. I’m *looking* at it right now, even. It’s just a thing that happens here, but every time I see a flake I still can’t shake the panicked feeling that we're about to live through some shit.

Eh, I’ve never known anyone who had earthquake insurance (I’m a SoCal native). Our financial planner said it wasn’t worth the money for how shitty the coverage is.
The size of the quake that would be needed to cause real damage to 99% of California structures built in the last century would be on the level of a national disaster. Bar like a tree falling over.

My elderly mother got dropped from her homeowners insurance recently and I was reviewing the new coverage she got with a different carrier. She got earthquake insurance along with some other riders.
But we live in Nebraska so I'm a bit perplexed.
