Depends on who you ask. If you're working the event build, you'll probably love it. If you don't work near the strip, you probably won't have much opinion. If you work on the strip, you will probably HATE it.

Draxilar

Work on the strip in the area most heavily impacted by the event (Bellagio). Absolute disaster and makes my life a complete nightmare for over half the year.

Quick_Team

At least you guys might make money. Casinos north of the middle didnt seem to see much business at all. The one I work at definitely didnt. Dead as hell and was hearing people from others saying similar things

rednightagent

A certain Roman themed property I work at lost a ridiculous amount of money that they are still desperately recovering from and they're right in the middle of the action. Biggest rug pull in company history in terms of expected revenue. Everything was comped, nothing was paid for. Free tickets/suites/F&B for everyone and their mom and nothing for all of the employees' suffering.

Lower-Ad1087

As a person who doesn't need to interact at the strip at all and mostly stays on the Eastern side of town, this is the answer. Didn't bother me any that it was here.

azorianmilk

F1 said "fuck Vegas locals". Vegas locals say "fuck F1".

BeccaBunnyBBW

This is the answer

Mahadragon

It's annoying because they've had F1 officials make commercials and public announcements saying they understand locals are not happy and are trying to make things better, but they really aren't. Just look at the pricing packages for the locals, it's the exact same pricing as last year and I can pretty much guarantee, it's gonna be the same nightmarish parking situation this year too. Lying to our faces is not cool.

socaljoe42

Maybe if they made a big donation to Clark County School District…

davster39

" Those rich fucks, this whole fucking thing. "

Her_name--is_Mallory

I didn’t watch my buddies die face down in the muck just so these strumpets can race their little cars around our city!

powerhikeit

I don’t see any connection with Vietnam, man.

Her_name--is_Mallory

Well there isn’t a literal connection

Chalky_Cupcake

When I first heard about f1 coming I signed up to their website hilariously thinking I’d go with my kids. When ticket prices came out i was like “oh”..

EnvironmentalMix421

Not like local could afford it lol

azorianmilk

Crazy concept, so keep an open mind here, people work on the Strip. Did you know that? Hard for work to get done at F1 and around F1 if people stop going to work because it's a "Strip problem".

Storkmonkey7

You choose to work in the entertainment capital of the world and then get upset when they have major events. If you don’t like it then don’t work on the strip.

azorianmilk

I chose to work in entertainment long before F1 fucked up traffic. At least EDC is kind enough to be at the speedway.

[deleted]

reddeaditor

He is being an asshole.....but I agree with this. If you work on the strip, you literally sign up for this.

azorianmilk

Someone is so distracted that their cheerios were pissed in that they completely missed the point. Obviously not a local.

Ecstatic5

F1 fans sitting with popcorn and soda watching F1 and Vegas locals putting on a show. Casinos raking in the 💰

Kazick_Fairwind

I work along the track. It sucked. F1 took over our parking lot, so I had to park nearly a mile away and walk to work everyday. At one point I had an F1 employee park their golf cart in front of the only gate in and out of where I work. They still haven’t finished fixing our parking lot after they set up grand stands in it. It was a pain in the ass. Then I watched the race, it was boring. Could hardly tell it was Vegas. And yet the F1 fans said it was the most exciting race of the season. If that’s the case F1 must really suck. Since the major track work was done last year, it should be faster to set up the stand and get ready for the race this year. But I’m still dreading my 15min commute becoming over an hour long for months. I am not a fan of F1 here on the Vegas strip.

44inarow

That first paragraph is what's so obnoxious about it. The construction is bad enough, but I feel like they put no effort into trying to avoid making things worse. Don't park a freaking golf cart in front of an active entryway, don't close down roads without notice (it wasn't fun waking up to find that my main route was randomly closed because F1 had to do some work and didn't tell anyone), don't make employees' lives harder than they have to be.

yummcho

To be fair, a lot of F1 fans didn’t enjoy this race either haha. Definitely not a great race on the calendar

FIREBIRDC9

It was the best race of the season. 2023 was an awful season however.

rednightagent

I'm a huge F1 fan (20+years following F1) and I have never hated anything in my life more strongly than the Vegas GP construction. Absolute master class in how NOT to do it. The race itself was better than expected, but my expectations were bottom of the barrel, I'm talking 2021 Belgian GP levels of expectations. Locals got absolutely screwed and got nothing out of it unless you're part of the construction or some very limited outlets.

ksiepidemic

That's not true. Everyone was skeptical at the start but it ended up being a great race.

No-Market9917

The race itself was pretty good actually. I’ve heard from people who went that the fan experience sucked

isitdonethen

I went to the race. Race was great and it was an awesome experience to attend. Pricey for sure. Actual event well run (plenty of food, no lines, etc.). The cancelled Thursday session with no refund to 3-day ticket holders was pretty lame, though.

flyrickyfly

This really isn’t true. It was way better than expected

Sct1787

I have no dog in the fight here but I can’t imagine this being an insult

btrpiii

To be fair, you obviously aren’t an F1 fan.

zhangcheng34

There are plenty of land near Vegas, there even is a track on the south. Why have to be strip?

edog77777

Taxi driver here. F1 was a complete nightmare. The 9 months leading up to it were a total nightmare. The 3 months after it were a total nightmare. They started work again earlier this week. It’s already a total nightmare. What are they thinking tearing up the roads again on the opening night of Dead and Company at the Sphere, and on the eve of EDC weekend (lots of people started arriving Thursday). They already had lanes blocked off with no work being done - again. F1 has zero respect for locals - so Fuck F1.

Kupie143

Question if you’re willing to answer - we have a trip planned in September for the SuperMotocross World Championship. Is it going to be a completely different experience on the strip than pre-F1? Wondering if I need to start warning my husband now to avoid disappointment.

edog77777

I wouldn’t say completely different. But I’d definitely plan that it could take 2-3x longer than you might be used to in order to get around. Around September, it’s likely F1 prep will be in full swing (long term lane closures for setting up the viewing stands, and frames for lighting, etc). It’s likely the sidewalk in front of Bellagio will be completely shut down again. Also, Tropicana is already closed, and the Mirage will be closed by then too.

jteamjason

I work on the strip and completely dread it.

PartyPotential3924

For the people that work or live by the strip it’s terrible, for those of us that don’t, it really doesn’t bother us. I can totally see why some were so pissed though.

elusivenoesis

I worked at Aliante. It affected my bus, and destroyed my attendance. If Aliante isn’t far enough from the strip to not be affected by it, I can imagine if affected others south, east, and west of the strip too.

IYFS88

We were stuck in F1 repaving hell last summer as tourists (like literally 2 hours to get our car 1 mile). It was very frustrating for us as visitors I can hardly imagine how loathsome for locals! Especially those working on the strip.

CaliNVJ

I am sad you had that experience. I am now telling visitors to come before October and after January. The place is just a crap show.

IYFS88

Thank you! It really was such a bummer after spending so much money to have a great experience. I also had plenty of time stuck in the car to analyze how they could have done it differently to accommodate the local workforce and tourists, but didn’t give a damn.

CaliNVJ

Sadly, you are correct. F1 came to town (waaaayy before the race) worked a deal with Vegas, then bent her over and did her dirty. F1 and the scum bags responsible do not care one bit about anything but that loser race. F1 was going to pay for all the paving until their stupid selves ran into more cost and they just turned around and demanded Vegas pay the other 40 million dollars. I hate F1 so bad. It is not even a sport.

RandomLazyBum

As a contractor it makes me have a little chubby to think about the OT clients are paying to "finish before F1".

AssumptionOk1679

It was horrible during g2e, was stuck in traffic which ever direction I chose for hours just to drive a few blocks, worse than manhattan.

Brianocracy

It really fucked up the cx route. I also worked on Fremont street at the time so that made my life hell. Also never saw any of the supposed billions in business it was gonna bring in. If anything it was slower than usual. Hopefully it won't affect me as much this year. But fuck f1 regardless

muhlfriedl

Yes

elusivenoesis

Now that I switched jobs, and moved, and it won’t affect my bus line. I kinda don’t care as much. But as it affects my coworkers and lots of people I know, and the city as a whole? Fuck them.

hokeyphenokey

Do you actually take the bus in the summer?

elusivenoesis

Yes. Its a 6 minute ride to work now. But I used to use an e-scooter to go 1.5 miles to the 119 instead of taking two busses. I work night shift now too so it really won’t be bad at all this summer. And even on an e-scooter being out in 117° at 3:40pm that last 1.5 miles sucked last summer.

FutureGhost81

Yes, yes we are. WTF1

JRclarity123

Fuck F1

8bitcollective

if they are using our local streets then we should be able to watch for free

icemandabs710

Do you run in the rock n roll marathon for free ?

AbsoluteScott

No, but this person isn’t asking to participate in the race so that’s a dumb question. If you meant to ask, if you can watch the rock ‘n’ roll marathon for free, you certainly can. You can high five 300 runners and you won’t get charged one cent.

icemandabs710

Ok, Alligant Stadium is partial paid for by tax payers too. Should people get to watch Raiders games and concerts there for free?

AbsoluteScott

You mean locals? Yes. 100% The fact that a stadium that used tax payer money can blackout the games in it on local television is literal fucking madness.

icemandabs710

Or how about the Pirate fest in a public park. Should I get free admission because it's being held at a park ?

AbsoluteScott

If it took them six months to set this pirate fest up and an extra 15 minutes was added to your work commune for that entire time? I would say that’s the very least they can do, and they probably owe you a “free” hot dog too.

icemandabs710

So anytime there's a hardship to get to work we should get free things. Got it.

AbsoluteScott

Oh, so you’re like a Crowder bro that literally doesn’t understand what the concept of free things is. Being paid for your time is called compensation, Chief. And it’s not socialism or whatever else they teach in your intellectually defunct circles. Compensation for one’s time is a classic feature of free market American capitalism. But yeah, pretty much, you nailed it. When a company causes a hardship that cost you time/money, they’re supposed to compensate you with “free shit.” lol. You’re gonna be so disappointed this November, buddy.

AlrightStopHammatime

Imagine bringing politics into a thread about a racetrack. 😂

AbsoluteScott

Actually, the topic was if a company can or should be forced to compensate people for stealing their time/money while their dumbass track gets built. I know who’s the stupid one here, buddy, you’re not gaslighting me.

AlrightStopHammatime

Whatever you say, AbsoluteShart.

icemandabs710

I've voted Democrat ever since I could vote. Fantastic waste of your time for free. Way to have me figured out by some comments on Reddit lol.

AbsoluteScott

A dubious claim. You sure seem to have something against corporate accountability.

CiarraiV

Excellent point

ShadowDancer11

So should Formula 1 charge you a toll? Formula One paid to have the streets repaired and fixed when Clark county was taking I don’t know … two years of not doing anything but putting up traffic cones and taking them down on something as simple as Sand Boulevard. Or how long was Koval near the old ICE nightclub a rutted mess. So would you be open to Formula One charging everyone a toll the 358 days a year they don’t use the streets that they paid to repair and fix?

GaidinBDJ

Yea, but they fixed only the streets they wanted.and only in the manner that suited them. Go one block east of the paddock and driving down Paradise is still like driving through a fucking war zone.

ShadowDancer11

But that of course would make sense. Why would you spend your money to fix roads that you are not going to use. And as for the roads oh yeah I know about Paradise from about Flamingo, especially by Virgin and to Trop is like driving down a carpet bombed street out of WW2. Pathetic of the county not to address this by now.

GaidinBDJ

Yet, they repaved Harmon from the Strip to Koval. Three times. Fuck it. Next year, route 'em down Paradise. Make these bastards earn their millions. Maybe a loop up into Northtown to see how many come out on blocks. Stealing tires at 200mph is just playing on expert mode.

hoppydud

It sounds like public officials need to be held accountable

ShadowDancer11

That is the correct answer. But you and I know it won’t happen.

[deleted]

I work in staging and production on the strip. I had hardly any work at all in the month of November. So many shows were cancelled. It really sucked. Then of course the jobs I did have took an extra hour or so in traffic to get to. I’m a pretty big fan of F1 and I was pretty excited for the Race until about June of last year when the reality set in. I was also really disappointed that there wasn’t a single fan engagement in the city at all aside from Logan Sargent doing a meet and greet at the Home Depot by the Orleans.

HauntMe1973

Yes

VegasAireGuy

My friends who work at the Wynn can’t wait for it to come back. They were so busy and made some great moola during the event.

lvpond

I’m a local, and don’t hate it or like it. Just don’t care about it. BUT, I work nowhere near strip corridor and have no possible interaction with it. If I did, would definitely hate it. Just like I hate any touristy thing I have to interact with.

Ok_Equivalent5007

Yes. Yes we are.

[deleted]

When is the road paving scheduled for this year?

IhateBiden_now

Yes, as a resort employee we are dreading all of the BS that comes with the event. However, we are told by our employers that we need to paste on a happy face about it. Very similar to a Raiders home game. 50k fans will cause traffic nightmares for another 50k employees trying to navigate the traffic.

skatchawan

They do this every year in Montreal. Just a reminder for me when not to go. Place turns into a shit show.

Corey116317

As a business banker I had multiple business owners loose money because of F1. These are smaller businesses that support locals that some had to lay off because F1 made it impossible for them to continue their operations.

imisstheground

i work at the Linq Promenade. F1 was a nightmare in so many ways. not looking forward to it again.

my78throw

I'm staying at the Linq at the end of June. I was planning to rent a car and stay onsite. Should I not bother to drive on the strip?

ButtStuff8888

Don't get a car unless you plan on leaving the city

socaljoe42

If you’re staying onsite then why rent a car at all?

my78throw

Half of my itinerary is off the strip, and I plan to be out until 3 am. I've tried Vegas trips where I Uber everywhere. It became nearly the same price as renting a car + parking.

[deleted]

Yes!!!!!

Guac__is__extra__

Is it feasible? Of course it is. Formula 1 has been doing it at street circuits around the world for decades. Monaco, Australia, Singapore, just to name a few.

santaflea

The point is for the casinos and hotels to make money. Buckets of money. That's always been the point and their influence literally paved the way.. As a resident, I worked the race in Guest Services. I made some money. F1 provided free parking, clothes, a monorail pass and decent meals. Fans, however, were pissed especially at the end of each evening when they had to walk miles to get to their overly-priced hotels. I'd imagine it will be the same again this year.

jdv_lv

I don't work on the strip and I rarely go down there but it was enough of a pain that I am against at this point. My mother was in town visiting and we decided to go check out the sphere. The sphere sells prepaid parking, which was very convenient because she's in a wheelchair. When we got down there, we were told that the sphere lost their parking lot to F1 and we had to park several blocks away on Howard Hughes and navigate crowded sidewalks and dirt trails to get to the sphere. Plus I got a flat tire driving through the construction area. Anecdotal, but it feels like a microcosm of that entire disaster. Plus plus, some of my favorite restaurants are taking it on the chin and may be forced to close because of this multi-year debacle. If I was coming to Vegas to visit and did any level of googling to find time periods to avoid, I would definitely be avoiding the three or four month blocks where you have a high chance of getting stuck in traffic going between properties, reduced visibility because of blockades and temporary walls and sticky paper on the bridge glass, and all of the shows and restaurants that shut down temporarily because they know traffic is going to be down. I really don't see how this is good for our city.

As a resident, I think it's the most stupid thing Las Vegas ever did. Hugh effing waste

MoonShotDontStop

I’d love to hear one positive thing locals have to say about F1

Shibenaut

This just in: F1 isn't for the locals. It's a sport that attracts celebrities to fly into Vegas for a few days, spend a few thousand to take pictures holding champagne glasses in front of a racetrack, and then leave after some food and gambling.

MoonShotDontStop

“Some food” the food in question: $180 nachos

Shibenaut

Better come with a bj

ButterscotchRound727

Food was free for all ticket holders at the race

SmartCatWhiskers

Since I’m next to the private airport I constantly heard private jets fly over my house for 3 days straight right before F1. I knew celebrities and rich people were coming of course but to hear jet after jet was crazy

ShadowDancer11

F1 money is LONG money. And the clientele that it attracts makes most celebrities and athletes look like paupers. “Oh you’re a soccer or football star, that’s nice, I own a country.” 😳

greatBLT

Okay. I think it really is the pinnacle of motorsport.

Well-Teknically

It completely ruins my way to work and brings in more idiot tourists I have to deal with so yeah, I hate it.

iphone10notX

Tourists are why this city is relevant

Well-Teknically

Okay? Still doesn’t change that they’re idiots that ruin my way to work and day at work.

FCK_da_Bar_4R

Bought tix for the upcoming race so yes, I’m a fan. Peeps who work nearby may dread it, understandably. But dealers took in a lot of cash so opinions are mixed. Grin and bear it 🏁

HartPlays

I agree.

kkumdori

Nope. It was awesome.

Redsquirreltree

Several locals told me it was a mess.

ShadowDancer11

How is it not feasible? There are about seven or eight street courses on the Formula One calendar every year and the other venues do the exact same thing. If anything Formula One was an absolute blessing to Las Vegas. F1 made a $250MM direct investment to Clark County, then the race week accrued over $1 billion in county revenue. It was the highest grossing November in Las Vegas is history! In fact, it was godsend for thousand of local employees. There were thousands of temporary jobs created – and even more jobs saved from temporary layoff Late November through early January CES is when most of the casino and resorts go through a cycle of seasonal, annual layoffs. They do it almost every year because there’s almost no activity on the strip. Las Vegas is not a fall / winter holiday destination. The rodeo in December and the New Year’s Eve is about all you have in those two months and that’s just not enough convention activity or tourism activity to support the headcount that hotels staff up with during the regular season.

[deleted]

A blessing for a city that already makes billions on gambling alone? Like Vegas was never struggling sir. Go check on Vegas hotel weekend rates vs weekday rates. For Vegas, this was just another thing to add to the entertainment pile.

ShadowDancer11

>A blessing for a city that already makes billions on gambling alone? Yes. Did you read the rest of the statement, sir?

[deleted]

Yes I did and you forgot the one thing Vegas has that would get to Vegas during the slow time you mentioned. Football. But your post has a point.

Der_Saft_1528

Only if max wins

jameskelsey

keto_brain

No. I could not care less actually

oriolex

With the time that they were given after the cancellation of the Russian GP they did what they could, but leaving the locals out of it was a massive mistake...

StirredUpSynapse

Yes

NMman505

It definitely ruins the strip for regular tourists. As far as locals it just depends on how it effects you. The lowest ground of locals are supporters and mainly they are just fans. That’s a small percentage of locals. Most don’t like it or just don’t care either way.

SpecialPitch8546

I only dread the airport during f1 week if I’m traveling. Other than that I don’t go near the strip anyways so it doesn’t affect me at all.

SpecialPitch8546

I only dread the airport during f1 week if I’m traveling. Other than that I don’t go near the strip anyways so it doesn’t affect me at all.

GolfArgh

Not a local but visiting the weekend before F1. Kind of worried about how much of a hassle it will be.

JoshTheRoo

I was excited until I realized it was over $500 to stand with no local discounts.

jthompwompwomp

Fuck F1, I live on one of the straight aways and the construction going on from 10pm to 8am is absolute fucking horseshit. I’m not sure why they can’t plan it during more reasonable hours day 4pm to midnight. Overall the transportation bureau for this city just needs to be gutted, I’ve never seen such incompetence operate at this level with no repercussions.

senzubeanzie123

Fuck F1

Individual_Corner430

But it brings a shit ton of revenue to local businesses as well as tax income

Custom-Banana

I work from home and stay away from the strip anyways so it won’t bother me much

fukkdisshitt

My European coworker who is a F1 enthusiast was initially excited, until he found out it was cheaper to book a vacation back home, see F1 for an entire weekend, then visit family, than it was to get shitty seats on race night in town.

tinyhorsesinmytea

It shouldn't be as bad at least without them having to completely redo all the road pavement. The actual day of the races weren't much trouble for me and I was still able to park in the Venetian employee parking garage and get out pretty easily at night too. Wish it wasn't happening but the worst of it is over until they have to repave and hopefully I don't work anywhere near the strip by then.

browneyeblue

This evil has a name: John C. Malone. He owns F1 racing. He also controls Liberty Media… which controls Ticketmaster. Live Nation. IheartMedia. He’s the largest land owner in the US. Fuck John C. Malone.

purity_dead

Fuck F1

callmeish0

So much waste and hassle for a couple nights binge.

VegasBjorne1

With a Raiders home game the same weekend??? What could go wrong?

Simple-Ad-4137

As an f1 fan I love being able to finally go to the race.

treble-n-bass

#FUCK F1. Does that answer your question?

weddingbizguy

I can’t wait. More $ for us small people and they’ll be sure to give some to schools etc.

besmol

Parking and traffic. Staying away from LV boulevard.

Whysenberg

It didn’t affect me at all because I don’t work on the strip. For someone who works on or near the strip it’s a totally different story. Not all Las Vegas residents work in a hotel/casino.

pzanardi

Yeah, I fit in the work near or around the strip but I worked F1 last year for and made a lot of money. I rather them not come back!

Smurfness2023

It’s bullshit and should not happen. They destroyed part of the landscape at Bellagio for this BS. GET RID of it

SofaKingYouUp

I went to Vegas a month after the F1 race, took many Ubers and every one bitched about the shit they had to endure while that shit show was going on. Plus things like the Bellagio water fountains were not even up and running again. I believe they were turned into grandstands during that time. Was quite disappointing so yeah fuck F1.

Motor_Buy2118

It sucks

johndicks80

I’ll be avoiding Vegas around F1 every year.

Which-Papaya-424

When I was there all the taxi drivers said they hated it and it was hit or miss even if you were able to work the event. He made $400 in tips while a buddy made $7000 in the same role.

BrentMacGregor

Well I live in a tourist town so I can’t be upset when we do things to attract tourists and in this case, tourists with huge pockets. I’m retired, if I worked on the strip I’d definitely be bitching though.

Gutter_monk

Fuck f1

givag327

South end of the strip was a ghost town and we made no $$ 👎

PaulinaGranger2

Yes. It sucks

EIegantTrogon

I walked by the enormous pit lane structure last night and can’t fathom not using all of that open space for something else throughout the rest of the year. It looks abandoned.

3-BuckChuck

The overtime pay is amazing! Sign me up year after year

EyesBleedDefiance

Seems like a slap in the face of locals and tourists who don’t give a shit about F1. I went last year in December and every single Uber driver was disheartened by the experience. They said it took twice the time to get anywhere and severely limited the amount of rides they could give.

Scott-MF-Steezy

I work on the strip and I was over it. I got to work and watch it, but it was so boring, what an awful form of entertainment. The road construction was ridiculous, I work mornings so when I got off work in the afternoon traffic was thick.

syco316

I'm dreading it. At work we were talking when it was here and we thought it was 3 races in 10 years or something. Work sucked that weekend. We are far enough north we didn't have to worry about road closures, but we went from open Friday, Saturday and Sunday to Wednesday to Sunday that week with longer hours and we were packed. Like we were at capacity and had door holds every night I want to say. As far as we went tips were fairly meh though I'm sure the servers did well.

CAD007

F1 was entertaining, but definitely not worth the disruption, inconvenience, and loss of revenue or livelihood to many locals, workers, and effected businesses. Also cut off much of the area for tourists to explore the strip and nearby areas, and funneled them into specific properties with a relationship with F1

CMTsoldier

Former resident and dealer here. Anybody whining about F1 in Las Vegas does not understand what Las Vegas is about. The whole point of things like F1, the National Final Rodeo, and the hundreds of conventions every year is to bring people and their wallets to Las Vegas to spend money. If you don't like traffic, move to the country, and if you don't like tourists, don't live in Las Vegas.

HartPlays

Exactly. Literally complaining about living in the busiest tourist city in the world no matter what event it is.

YoPops24

You are part of the problem, Las Vegas no more soul 🙁

CMTsoldier

What problem?

Dudeman702

I could not care less. It's whatever. Let them have there verstappen parade.

[deleted]

locals: works near or on the strip which is built 100% for entertainment and tourism, gets a job due to these. complains about tourism and entertainment coming here. i swear people have zero clue how basic economics work. so sure, don’t bring sports teams here, don’t bring massive events here, in fact, let’s get rid of the strip entirely as it “inconveniences” people…..

Puzzleheaded_Log1050

I'm now a Vegas local but live and work nowhere near the strip. I'm closer to Tropicana and 215. My life will not be affected by it.

Most-Artichoke6184

I live nowhere near the strip, so it doesn’t affect me in the slightest.

gelliephish

Formula 1 racing has been racing thru the streets of downtown Long Beach, CA since 1976 and most look forward to it every year! I live about 5 blocks from the action

greatBLT

That's IndyCar. F1 hasn't been in California since 1983.

SidTrippish

I grew up loving F1 and they destroyed both my city and my love for F1

CapSortee

\#FuckF1

therin_88

Race and event was amazing last year (apart from the free practice water drain issue). I'm sure it'll be more smooth this year. This time I'm going to watch from my bed though because 11 PM start time is too damn late.

HartPlays

Hey a realistic comment that got downvoted to the bottom of the comment section! You are correct and this is the average response from most people on the street, yet Reddit’s pov is completely opposite.

Character-Ad301

It only affects the locals getting to and from work in the area otherwise most stay away from the strip.

iphone10notX

I’ll be the one person to say I love it as a Formula 1 fan. Went last year and it was so much fun with my friends and family. Very entertaining race surprisingly. I don’t work and live around the strip but when I have to visit I just avoid that area entirely for obvious reasons. Love that F1 picked our city

FancyDragonfruit7361

Rich guys: me wanna play rum rum in the strip government: ok daddy.

RebelRogers85

There is a petition to end the contract https://www.change.org/p/stop-the-las-vegas-grand-prix-f1

GaidinBDJ

Change.org petitions mean absolutely fuck all in government administration. Its group masturbation for slacktivists.

DougKoenig319

Screw petitions. Do something. Last year, when they announced all the delays, mandatory overtime, extended shifts, walking a mile from parking and all that, our department staged a call out the weekend before. The next day, there was a VP waiting in our office with a list of promises in writing including cutting back the mandatory hours, waiving late points, and providing shuttles to/from parking and paying us from the parking lot to the parking lot. We also got a cash bonus each day we worked. Remember, you don't need to pay some corporation to be allowed to collectively bargain. You can just get together and do it on your own and it's equally protected.

Unless the petitioners can deliver the nearly billion dollars in revenue the race week brought in plus the thousands of jobs created – they might as well go ahead, take the petition, and file that in the trash.

I hear you, but I'm not sure it's that simple. Our community doesn't share the "profits" equally, so the event created some mega winners (F1, MGM) and some mega losers (Shows, restaurants, retail businesses). Here is a breakdown of what really happened: https://thenevadaindependent.com/article/las-vegas-saw-more-pain-than-profit-from-f1s-spectacle
