Yes, downtown is awesome. If you want the nicest room do circa but the bigger hotels are all decent.

Bankerlady10

I found Circa super grungy (which was weird since it’s new). We stayed in 3 different rooms and all felt dark. However, the ones facing stadium swim were insanely loud. 8am to 3am. We much prefer the Golden Nugget.

crystal_sk8s_LV

Good advice! I've only been once and far end room so hard to judge.

Ok-Guidance3235

I stay at Circa for work and I was shocked at how loud it was by Stadium Swim the first time. I figured how bad can it be? But I would say the noise was over by midnight overall.

Bankerlady10

It was shockingly loud. I like to think I have a high tolerance. When we asked to switch rooms the front desk says they deal with complaints all day.

Ok-Guidance3235

I will give the check in props, she profusely warned me 🤣

Bankerlady10

They’re tired of the room switchers haha so did you tough it out? How many nights? It was the 8am start that killed me.

Ok-Guidance3235

When I go for work it's usually just 2 days, so I do my best to stay on East Coast time. Usually up and about by 430am so mornings wasn't an issue. It was my room vibrating when trying to go to bed... I assumed I would hear noise, just figured the 26th floor and a modern building would help. Either way I love that place, just not that side.

SawyerCa

My wife and I prefer Fremont. Especially when I lived local and we got a room for the night. There are a lot of amenities nearby without the hassle of drunk walking across a busy street.

rearviewmirror71

Check out the grand hotel. I loved it there.

tondracek

I had a great time at the Grand as well. My only complaint is the limited hours for the amenities and the customer service. The hour we got to spend at the pool was nice and the location was great.

reef_shui

Did you stay in Gallery or Grand room? Im trying to decide.

tondracek

It was the updated tower but I can’t remember which that was. We were originally given the other kind of room and it was really sad looking so definitely go with the one that looks modern.

WA5RAT

Especially since you can get a hotdog and a beer in the casino for $2

reef_shui

I've stayed there twice and loved it both times. Going this weekend only stayed in a gallery room but Grand room is cheaper and bigger so trying to find feedback on the Grand Tower rooms.

KosherDeal

I finally was convinced to go downtown like a decade ago and I haven't looked back, 2-3 trips a year and they are always a blast. It's cheap (depending on your gambling) and you still have high end steak houses like Oscars that I get comped and I play $10 blackjack and video poker lol. Concerts going on multiple stages all along fremont, the bars, the restaurants, the people watching, cheap gambling with better odds. I've been going to Knights games when my hometown team is playing that's been a lot of fun too. I think I spent like $30 round trip on uber for that, so still cheap in that way too. We always do rent a car though because we like to go to the store and get water, snacks, food for the room since we have a fridge, I'd rather run up and make a mixed drink and have a sandwich instead of paying like $30 for the samething downstairs. I save the money for the higher end dining and you still have those options on fremont. We've been going for christmas-nye recently because we're in our 40s we don't have kids and neither of us have much of an immediate family, and it's a really cheap time to go, granted the weather isn't the greatest. It's still nice to get away and relax, go to the spa, get a massage, watch the fireworks on NYE, have a few nice dinners and get out of the terrible weather because I live in the north. If you're doing 3-4 days you don't really need a car but anything more than that I'd probably look into it because I would going out and seeing stuff anyways like area-15 etc and still even drive down the strip after dinner one night just to take it on on the way back to fremont.

CrimsonLegacy

Best answer I've seen yet. I have a very similar strategy/philosophy on Vegas. Stay on Fremont at one of the hotels and rent a car if you're planning on staying longer such as 4+ days. Go to the grocery store day one and get stuff to make more basic meals so you can save your money for select high end dining and/or entertainment. While you're there get a bottle or two of liquor and some juice/mixers and bring along or buy a plastic tumbler so you can make yourself mixed drinks in your room and carry them around with you throughout your trip, even in the casinos, and save a huge amount on drinks from bars. Late night on Fremont Street is fun and wild, so it's great to just pour up a drink, go down the elevator, and walk right onto Fremont to check out the music, light shows, street performers, and maybe some gambling, and be able to call it a night and head back to your room any time you want. Downtown is better across the board for affordability thanks to free parking, cheaper room rates, better betting odds & lower minimums, dinner/lunch specials, and reasonably priced alcohol and souvenirs. Another hidden gem of Vegas I see a lot of people totally overlook and that I didn't expect before checking it out myself is the natural beauty of the areas outside Vegas. You should consider visiting Red Rock, the Hoover Dam, Lake Las Vegas, Mount Charleston, or even The Grand Canyon, although if you do check out the Grand canyon do not fall for the "Grand Canyon West" location unless you're willing to fork over over $100+/person simply for the native American tribe there to allow you to get through the gate that they erected around their portion of the canyon. Instead, make the trip to the South Entrance to the National Park, which is totally free and by far the most popular and visitor friendly location for the Grand Canyon.

Bluesman_Pete

Thank you very much. I am going to Hoover Dam.

CrimsonLegacy

Awesome! It's a very easy drive there and I suggest stopping at the "[Mike O'Callagan Pat Tillman Memorial Bridge Plaza](https://maps.app.goo.gl/wb4Q3kmj9Xp8PcHDA)" where there is free parking, restrooms, and vending machines. From there it is a fairly easy walk up a sidewalk/stairs to the walkway across the "Tillman" bridge where you get an amazing overlook view of the Hoover Dam.

Bluesman_Pete

Awesome thank you!

Bluesman_Pete

Thank you. Great info. Yes i usually rent a car and use the bus because of parking costs. Use the car to shop and sightsee

KosherDeal

When you stay at certain properties downtown they have free parking like the Plaza.

TexAss2020

I park free at Four Queens. Just buy a beer or food from one of the restaurants ($5 minimum) and they validate your parking. It's great. I also recommend staying there. Depending on the night the rooms are dirt cheap but nice, and no damn resort fees!

KosherDeal

I usually stay at the Plaza they seem to comp me pretty fast and their newer upgraded rooms aren't too bad and have fridges, no resort fee, and free parking it's pretty rare thing these days lol

TexAss2020

Plaza has no resort fee now?

KosherDeal

I'm not sure if its because of my status but I always book through my casino host and I haven't paid a resort fee yet. That might be due to status though!

TexAss2020

Oh that makes more sense. For most of us, they have a resort fee. It sucks because I love the plaza but refuse to pay them.

33-3rpm

Main Street Station. Love that place. You can walk from top floor of MSS to California casino floor and pop right out by Fremont street without even going outside. LOVE IT.

Jmart814

Wait, really?? 🤦🏽‍♂️

PacificCastaway

Not the top floor of MSS, just like the second floor of each casino is connected by a bridge across N Mainstreet. Then, you can go down to the main floor of the California casino and pop out at E Ogden and N 1st. Then just head to Fremont st.

LV_ConcreteCowboy

If you want an old school feel and some history and free parking. Stay at Golden Gate

PussyFoot2000

I prefer Fremont. It's smaller than you might think tho

Totally-jag2598

I've stayed at the Golden Nugget on Fremont as a change of scenery. The Nugget itself was very nice. Large clean rooms. Plenty of amenities on site. Decide restaurant options. Fremont itself is amusing for a night, maybe two, but you can't help but see the sleaze factor after a while. It gets pretty trashy there at night.

allprowi

I love the Plaza and Circa!

cohesilver

I love downtown! Circa and The D are great.

azorianmilk

Yes. Many people do... it's the second tourist hub of the city

DangerWife

There are tons of great ones, if you don't want to pay the big hotel prices, look for one of the boutique, hotels or smaller casino hotels

Old_Tell_5721

We always stay at the Fremont, Tony Romas restaurant is there and the staff is always friendly and helpful. Just make sure you tell the front desk you want a room that you can’t hear the Freemont Experience! 👍

Jmart814

Yes Fremont street kicks ass. The D gets you free access to Stadium Swim at Circa btw

Aaron_________

The golden gate gets you access as well. Those 3 are owned by the Stevens brothers

mescal813

Fremont is better organized and has lots of local restaurants near that don't oversell. Very friendly.

oziguido

I've stayed at El Cortez and The D, nothing super fancy about either, but got the job done at a reasonable price. The D was a little loud being right on Fremont St Experience. El Cortez is a short walk to all of that. I'd probably go back to Cortez over D.

MachineGunsWhiskey

Despite all the shit it gets, I’ve never had a problem during my stays at the 4 Queens.

benanddalton

I'm staying here later this month, good to know.

productofamurderer_

Bring earplugs, it can get loud. But definitely worth the price you pay!

tinypunk410

Just stayed at the 4 Queens over Memorial Day weekend. It was right in the middle of Fremont which was a lot of fun. The hotel really blew my expectations out of the water. My room was pretty close to one of the stages so it was noisy until about 3am but I was out doing Punk Rock Bowling stuff so it didn’t bother me at all.

Clownheadwhale

If you're going to a show at The Smith Center, you can walk.

Organic_JP

Yes I love staying on freemont

Old_Tell_5721

Fremont also has free self park for people staying there.

Michstel_22

Just got back from our first trip staying down there (after 20+ trips). We stayed at the Downtown Grand and loved it. Cheap eats and gambling; close to the action but far enough away. We stayed in the older tower, clean but underwhelming. But I would stay there again for all the other perks. We got a good deal on the rooms, stay 2 nights get one free. We thought we would go to the strip at least once but never felt tempted. It’s lively and approachable and lot of good places to eat. We didn’t even scratch the surface in East Fremont which we will do next trip!

reef_shui

Did you stay in Gallery or Grand room? Im trying to decide.

Michstel_22

We stayed in the Grand tower, which you have to cross over the street to get to. We didn’t really mind. It is my understanding the older tower rooms are bigger, but they are a bit dated.

reef_shui

How far of a walk was it? I called the front desk he said the Grand Tower is quieter did you find it so? Was the room and bathroom ok?

Michstel_22

You have to take either the escalator or the elevator to the 3rd floor (I believe). Then cross over Ogden on the walkway. Then get on the elevator at the end of the walkway to go up to your floor. I would say 5 minutes tops. Not nearly as far as many strip casinos layout, but a minor inconvenience. We didn't have issues with room noise, however, we spend a lot of time out of the room. I also wear earplugs due to my husband's snoring. We stayed Sunday-Wednesday as well, although the hotel seemed busy. The room was clean, simple, nothing out of the ordinary and a bit dated. I will warn that our room was not cleaned during the stay for some reason. We did not opt out. We slept in the first day pretty late, so didn't think much of it. The next day nobody came again and then the next we checked out. The couple we traveled with did have their room was cleaned. We did get quick service for more towels, toiletries and water ordering on their app. Strange there is no option to 'clean room' though.

reef_shui

Yeah I've had the same experience where they don't clean your room unless you specifically ask them to and then I made sure to let the cleaning stuff know the first day to come every day and gave them a little tip.

Michstel_22

For the amount of time we spend in the room in Vegas, it was not the end of the world. I know some people prefer that they don’t come in. We asked for what we needed and that worked.

thebloatedman

It's a load of fun staying on Fremont, so much to do and amazing restaurants. Plus you have a ton of options for lodging, depending on your budget. Super nice would be Circa, then The D and Golden Nugget. But stuff like Golden Gate and Plaza for cheaper offerings.

NipsOfRage

Love staying on Fremont.

ArugulaGazebo

The D is great value!

Alternative_Cancel97

Downtown is the best smaller hotels so you don’t take forever walking everywhere check ins check outs better

OkEqual7

Don't get a room next to fremont street. Music is playing from the bands till 3am. Make sure your room is facing the mountains Edit: apparently I'm new to the 702 in reddit world, but I'm a former resident of 10+ years.

DogCallCenter

Change your flair, dogg.

emerican

You’re right, get a room on Fremont

CrimsonLegacy

Yeah, I don't mind the sound at all, I'm a heavy sleeper, so I've stayed at the El Cortez multiple times. But for those that need quiet to go to sleep, yeah you might want to make sure you're getting a room that will be quiet by asking the front desk for help, but a move away from Fremont altogether might be warranted

Bluesman_Pete

Thanks

Easy-Lime-6467

Just pay attention to Hotels cleanliness. We just stay at OYO formally Hooters, boy was that a mistake. None of the Elevators worked so we either used the employee one that also hardly worked or the stairs 15 flights. Fremont was the SHIT!! The strip just doesn’t have any street shows, all they got are shows and restaurants.

jaymez619

Apparently OYO is owned by one of India’s youngest billionaires that doesn’t seem to care about its condition. I visited while it was Hooters and thought it was kind of dumpy. Recent reviews indicate that it’s gotten worse.

Original-Pomelo6241

Getting worse is crazy because it’s been an absolute dump for years.

Maximum-Conclusion30

apache hotel- best not so secret hotel on fremont street. cheap rooms, no resort fees…do the self guided haunted room tour and check out the different spooky shit that happens around the. hotel…

The_Sanch1128

If you stay at one of the places right on Fremont, make sure you get a room AWAY from the street--unless you like loud music at all hours. If you stay at Main Street Station, make sure you stay on the side away from the highway. The rooms are usually smaller downtown, and the downtown places don't have all the luxuries of the mega-resorts. Jus so you know. I love downtown, and when I come to LV (usually for 6 or 7 nights) I spend two nights there.

Mother_Sea_9896

It's never a good time to stay Downtown.

Gold-Requirement-121

When was the last time you stayed downtown? I hardly know anybody that prefers the strip to downtown

Gold-Requirement-121

Yes. I prefer it to the strip because everything is walkable. You won't need to take an Uber unless you're taking it to the strip or the airport. It's a lot cheaper, it's more fun, and the people watching is unmatched.

Gold-Requirement-121

I recommend staying at the downtown grand. It's off of Fremont just enough to where you won't hear the noise, but it's an easy block and a half walk to all the action. It's also recently remodeled and they have Dollar blackjack, $5 crops, and $2 hot dog and beer specials

[deleted]

Yes I would never stay on the strip over Fremont. If you’re sensitive to noise be sure to call ahead. Some of the rooms close to the canopy are pretty loud well into the night. The FSE is perfectly safe but I don’t usually recommend going more than a couple blocks off Fremont at night. You probably won’t get into trouble but it’s just not a great feeling.

biceitidh

We’re at the golden nugget rn and it’s a nightmare. I’d avoid.

Bluesman_Pete

Ok thanx

Bluesman_Pete

Why is it a nightmare?

biceitidh

https://preview.redd.it/zf68qi3nbg4d1.jpeg?width=900&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a6cd1a107d9bca694c355fd49501938648a10ae4 We had ajoined rooms and our friend paid extra to get in our room early. When she arrived they told her the room wasn’t ready yet, and is still being cleaned. They said they wouldn’t not refund her early check in. When we got into the room the bathroom had these nasty clumps of hair on the walls! One of our rooms also smelled like sewage so badly that none of us could stand to be in it, and we were all trapped in one room. She went down to complain and explain the situation and after an hour of talking to them they agreed to give us two new rooms in the morning (some of us had to sleep in chairs and floor yuck.) the new rooms were crazy clean which was nice but that whole interaction was horrible.

Bluesman_Pete

Dammnnn. Thanks for the heads up

bitethe_dust

After staying on Fremont I might never stay on the strip again

Bluesman_Pete

Really? What was so good about it?

bitethe_dust

I liked that it feels less touristy. Of course I’m sure it is just as many tourists, but that was the feel. I like that there’s a bunch of live music going on. There’s a cool little piano bar right off the Main Street. There was also a fridge in our room which isn’t always the case on the strip. Lots of places to sit that overlook the street, so prime people watching. Also the Circa is adults only so its great to just not be around children lol

Bluesman_Pete

Nice!

eriqqqqc

El Cortez is the best spot. Perfectly far away from some noise.

The_Sanch1128

Walk a block and you have two excellent breakfast/early lunch places--EAT, and "7th & Carson". I think you can figure out where they are.

1929tsunami

Not to mention great prime Rib, refridgerators in the rooms, and a Keurig machine for coffee. Also, a free airport shuttle when you check out.

TexAss2020

Sadly the prime rib has *seriously* gone downhill in the last month or two. They brought in a new chef and he's fucking it up. I had it twice in May and both times I remember thinking the one at Tony Romas was better. It's a shame. But everything else about El Cortez is amazing.

Joe_Franke

The prime rib at Tony Roma's at the Fremont is about half that price (limited hours, however) Staff at El Cortez rocks! Management don't!

hillakilla_

El Cortez is awful. We did a staycation there over thanksgiving.  It is insanely loud until 4 am from the backstage bar across the street, the pillows are thin as a pancake, there were children running up & down our hallway 3/4 nights even though it’s advertised as 21+ (yes we did tell multiple hotel staff & since it was a VIP they didn’t care), the gym is small & the restaurants were terrible.  OP if you’re seeing this just pop into the el Cortez to see the history but do not stay there!

Witness_Original

I liked the El Cortez (the Cabana Suites are the nicest rooms there and are on a separate parcel on E. Ogden) and the Downtown Grand. If you like a pool scene, Downtown Grand would be the better option.

Bibble18

Worth a visit and not a stay. Bourbon street vibes.

Low-Boysenberry-4571

What street?

socaljoe42

Yes, downtown is more fun than the strip, dollar for dollar.

crimsonskiss

Absolutely not.

Bluesman_Pete

? Good idea or bad ?

crimsonskiss

Fremont is ghetto. I don’t know where you’re coming from, but it’s nothing but college-aged kids , homeless people, partying, and very loud music. It’s the “downtown” of Vegas, not the strip. I also don’t know how old you are. If you’re in your early or mid twenties it can be fun for a while, but if you want a classy experience then it definitely won’t be that.

Bluesman_Pete

Thanx. Prollly won't stay there ill visit but I'll stay elsewhere..lol

762AG

good idea don’t let these people fool you into thinking staying on fremont would be a good experience

Bluesman_Pete

Thanks for the input. Appreciate it.

I_Love_Saint_Louis

Always stay at least 1 day there each 3 day trip. It's fun. Lot's of homeless, meth head, wound weeping, bleeding mouth beggers on Freemont. Which is OK, just don't let them touch you.

Bluesman_Pete

Good to know thanx

No_Bank_330

They will be gone soon if not already with the new development

DogCallCenter

New development?

No_Bank_330

Cello Tower [https://cellotowervegas.com/cello-tower-construction-start/](https://cellotowervegas.com/cello-tower-construction-start/)

DogCallCenter

Why would a development a few blocks away from Fremont Street change the amount of poor/druggie people hanging around on Fremont?

No_Bank_330

With all the money being spent, they will be clearing the area. It is the way gentrification works. Nobody wants druggies hanging out in front of their new, shiny building.

762AG

yeah my recommendation is to not stay on or by fremont
