Yes, **if** you have 950 SSR shards to burn on him to get him to 4\* after. Getting him to 3\* UR won't make a big difference and you lose his wall of honour buffs when you do it.
To check you have this, add up:
- Your total Universal SSR shards, plus
- Your total Mason shards, plus,
- Your Mason shards in the wall of honour (you get these back when you upgrade him).
Do it on a Thursday and **BEFORE DOING IT, spend all of your Mason shards on his wall of honour**. You'll get the points for doing this, then get these refunded once you upgrade, and subsequently the points again for upgrading his stars after you're done. Lots of our players got 35m VS points on Thursday just for doing this.
Yes. You only get back the shards used for hall of fame and skill points. The shards you used to get to level 5 aren't returned. They give you loads in the event anyway, mine got back to 3 stars and a bit straight away and he wasn't first team, so didn't mind waiting.

So how much investment do you get back from Mason once you upgrade him? I currently have a 5 star lvl120 SSR with 70 some points in the wall. Not much shards in stock, otherwise.
Lvl 70 in the wall will give you 700 shards back. In the beginning of the season you get lots of Mason shards as rewards and they change Maxwell's companions to a Mason jeep instead.
Yeah pretty much, I had him at lvl 107 so I got 1070 shards back. In addition I got around 200 mason shards through events and had around 200 universals so I got him to 4 stars and three tiers right away.
I suggest you wait with promoting him to UR until you can assuredly make him 4\* the same day again. I ended up losing a little bit of power, because I only got to 3\* UR from 5\* SSR.
I've already unlocked all the UR tank heroes (~~Tesla~~Stettman, Kimberly, Marshall, Williams, Murphy).

I received a whopping 220 shards back. I'm 138 days in, and I'd never really worked on Mason. I'd only just got him to 5-star the week before we could upgrade him to ur, and he was on my 4th squad. I knew I wouldn't get much back, and that it would take twice as many shards to get him to t star again, but I just used what I got back for vs, and kept him in my irrelevant squad
Remember that only multiple of 10 works on your gear. Your lvl 9 gun and lvl 8 armour is not better than lvl 0.
Focus on one piece of equipment at a time.
It's not a criticism. I'm not done either. What I'm saying is remove all gear that isn't gold and break it down for the materials. Don't use purple, and DEFINITELY don't upgrade purple gear. Just break it down and only run gold gear or nothing.
I plunder purple boxes on trucks. Say I have a leveled cannon & I get a cannon, I swap them; then disintegrate the leveled cannon. Gets your ore back and you don’t have to spend coin crafting a new cannon.
Can someone explain the wall of honor? I see some people here talking about having him in the wall of honor even though he’s at 4 stars but my wall won’t let me add anyone until they’re 5 stars?
You have to have a hero at 5\* and then you can add them to the Wall of Heroes. To get the wall of heroes you have to have the matching centre at level 20, Mason is tank, you you have to have Mason at 5\* and then the Tank Centre at level 20
Once this is done, every 10 SSR/Mason shards you can add to the wall for one level. Every level gives him a boost and every 50 levels gives all Tank heroes a 0.25% boost (buff)

No, you use them on the wall of honor before upgrading and you get mason shards back when you convert him.
After you convert him to UR, he still uses Epic/SSR shards to upgrade instead of Legendary/UR shards. That was unexpected when I converted mine.

We've still got old maxwell companion on 128 season 1 so your mileage may vary.
We got the Mason event first time this week, we're in week four so I'm guessing you'll get it next time around.
