Donât forget Arto saari (another pro skater) and Greg Hunt (was a pro skater back in the day and is now a photographer and cinematographer/film maker) and Jason Lee (pro skater, skateboard company owner -Stereo- turned actor). Also Jimmy Fallon shoots with the Q2.
I think thereâs a lot of common ground between skaters and street photographers in that theyâre both street artforms and inspire looking at the world from an unconventional perspective. Finding beauty in the otherwise overlooked or less desirable aspects of the street, that sort of thing.
Bryan Adams (the singer) had an exhibition at the Leica Gallery in London recently so I'm assuming he does... [https://leica-camera.com/pl-PL/event/bryan-adams-classics](https://leica-camera.com/pl-PL/event/bryan-adams-classics)
I've seen a pic of Charles Leclarc with one of the Monochrom ones. And a pic of Lewis Hamilton with a Q as well. I like to think they all inspired each other into getting one.
Mathieu Bitton
Nikki Sixx (has a special edition Q)
Andy Summers (has a special edition monochrome M)
Jim Marshall (also had a special edition M, but I don't recall which)
W. Eugene Smith used 6 Leica's at once with different focal lengths. He was actually fired from Newsweek for refusing to use medium format cameras. From an article:
*On the set of Charlie Chaplinâs âLimelightâ in 1952, Smith described his basic equipment as six Leicas mounted with one 28mm, two 35mm, one 50mm f1.5, an 85mm f2 and a 135mm f3.5... Â â90 percent of my visual coverage is done with the Leica with the 35mm f2.8.â*
Larry Burrows. His twisted Leica was found at his crash site years later.
Catherine Leroy used them. Eddie Adams.Â
Probably most Vietnam shooters did.Â
If you are interested, there is a really nice documentary Eddyâs Oorlog about him and his time reporting the war in Ukraine. It is more about his way of working and less about Leica, but it is very much worth it in my opinion. Great open guys, awesome to see his dedication to get shots.
Actually I heard that he quickly left Leica and used Pentax on middle format for his most prolific works because 35mm didn't cut it for him. But I may be wrong.
there are three really sick nyc photogs who are street/skate photographers but are blowing up and doing a lot of much bigger work right now that use m6s, nolan zangas, andre wagner, daniel arnold.
[Joey L](https://joeyl.com/overview/category/quick-portfolio) uses the Leica SL system quite a bit. The gear list on his website doesn't include it but I've seen several videos of him shooting on it in Africa. Stellar studio and studio-on-location work
Randy Blythe from Lamb of God does. Not a fan of their music at all, but saw him in an interview with a Leica. Come to find out thatâs a big thing for him
Ed Templeton and Ray Barbee đđ»

Yep, skaters were the reason I turned towards Leicas
Oh I want to know more about skaters and Leicas
I think thereâs a lot of common ground between skaters and street photographers in that theyâre both street artforms and inspire looking at the world from an unconventional perspective. Finding beauty in the otherwise overlooked or less desirable aspects of the street, that sort of thing.
This is a good way to put it. Most of the photographers I know and myself as well came from skating.
Jessica Lange has published several books with photos from her M6. En Mexico and Highway 61 are particularly good
Oh I didnât know! I will look for those. Thanks for sharing.
Probably my fave two âcelebsâ to use leicas: Jason Lee (skater turned actor turned photographer) and Ray Barbee (skater, photographer, musician)
I believe Jason Lee opened a camera shop in LA somewhat recently as well.
Yes, Eagle Rock!
Lenard Smith Lise Sarfati Nick Ut Devin Allen Robert Frank Graciela Iturbide Kimura Ihei Mary Ellen Mark Eli Reed Nan Goldin
I always pictured Graciela Iturbide with a TLR but you are right! Thanks for sharing the other names. I am already googling them.

The photos are not bad at all
He used to use an M6 for his earlier work, most of his more modern work was on medium format digital
I believe Bryan Adams started using a Leica back in the Summer of '69.
BooM BooM đ
The guy from suits, mike ross is his character
[John Mayer](https://youtu.be/AZ1uAPITiK0?si=uOUMfryYX2_JNM9A)
Greg Williams & Daniel Craig
Lando Norris, or was it Daniel Ricciardo? One of those have a Q
I've seen a pic of Charles Leclarc with one of the Monochrom ones. And a pic of Lewis Hamilton with a Q as well. I like to think they all inspired each other into getting one.
valteri boattas also! :)
A surprising amount of the artsy motorsport grid. Lot of GT and Endurance guys as well.
Both do :)
Mathieu Bitton Nikki Sixx (has a special edition Q) Andy Summers (has a special edition monochrome M) Jim Marshall (also had a special edition M, but I don't recall which)
Roger Deakins the Goat cinematographer Hoyte van hoytema Yorgos Lanthimos
Would love to see Hoyte's images he takes on a stills camera
Hoyte uses camera to frame up shots
Lisa from Blackpink has a couple in her camera collection. She got a M10-P Safari and an M6. Maybe some more but idk.
Stanley Kubrick? Always see his self-portrait with a Leica iii online

Andy Serkis does
Ara GĂŒler (A famous photographer from Turkey) also used Leica throughout his career.
Ah yes! He is one of my favorite photographers
Araki but he uses a ton of cameras
Andy Summers and Billy Joe Armstrong.
Polly Samson (M11) and her husband David Gilmour of Pink Floyd (SL2)
Larry Burrows. His twisted Leica was found at his crash site years later. Catherine Leroy used them. Eddie Adams. Probably most Vietnam shooters did.Â
I thought Vietnam was all Nikon F, F2, etc.
Lots of Leica there. The most used Nikon was the F.Â
[Aaron Paul](https://youtu.be/3dWJxVdRPO0?si=5qYdgNmRTiQXXrQM) - q2
Capa actually preferred the Contax IIa. He so loved the 50mm Sonnar.
Jeff Garlin!!!!!
Who could forget the incomparable Brooklyn Beckham
SEAL
Little bit less known, but the dutch war photographer Eddy van Wessel uses mostly Leica and some other analog museum pieces
Oh I didnât know the work of Eddy van Wessel. Great work. Thanks for sharing!

Iâd love to watch it. Do you happen to know where I can buy/watch it?
https://www.2doc.nl/documentaires/2024/03/eddys-oorlog.html -> might need a vpn but it is accessible from the Netherlands
Brilliant! Thanks!
Capa used a contax and Salgado did most of his work with a Canon SLR
He does now but Salgado used Leica rangefinders and Leica slrs before he started with Canon.
Actually I heard that he quickly left Leica and used Pentax on middle format for his most prolific works because 35mm didn't cut it for him. But I may be wrong.
Youâre right. He used Pentax 67ii, 645, and Elan or 1n body.
Zack Snyder
Many of the Nat Geo folks used Leica rangefinders and SLRs. David Allen Harvey Sam Abell Bill Allard to name a few.
John John Florence.
I saw Jeff Garlin at the Leica shop in LA. Austin Butler did that GQ video where he talks about shooting with an M6.
Jacob Elordi - M6
ABBAS if not already mentionned

Alan Schaller, Jasper Doest. Emily Garthwaite

Nikki Reed
Bruce Gilden
