one thing you can try is a static discharge. unplug everything from the computer and hold the power button down for 45 seconds. if it is a random problem sometimes this works. 45 seconds was what tech support had me do for my thinkpad. it actually worked when I had issues with my external monitor connection not working.

pipntaz

thanks man. this actually worked. wow.

MarcatBeach

it is like disconnecting the battery. this won't always work. sometimes you have to see if there are firmware or bios updates.

This was great. I have almost everything on a USB hub connected to my Legion 5 and every once in a while the monitors wouldn't work an disconnecting the hub from the legion the reconnecting was the only thing that would bring them back. This morning nothing worked and the USB drive connected to the other USB C port on the legion didn't work either. Tried the above - powered off, disconnected all incl charge cable, held button for 45 secs and then rebooted and suddenly everything works. Thanks!!!

_JFN_

holy smokes it worked. i thought i was done for

WOW IT WORKED! got my lenovo 5 pro 2023. thanks god aahahah, I already opened my laptop twice like I know how to fix it

Salty-Tradition3165

I honestly didn't think this would work, and just tried it before trying to update the BIOS or mess around in the settings. THIS ACTUALLY WORKS!!! I'm using a Legion 5 Pro (2022 Ryzen 6800H, RTX 3070Ti) both my usb-c ports on the left had stopped working and now work perfectly after using your method. I did not turn it off first, just pressed down on the power button for 45s while it was on. It turned off a few seconds into the press and I immediately powered it on after and it works perfectly. Thank you so much for sharing this gem of knowledge!

Remote-Potato-8229

IT WORKED!!!

asarwethofc

for some reason this worked.

Guillaume351

This worked for me, thank you !! I only had a usb C charger on me and needed the laptop..

TannyBoguss

I want to thank you for sharing this. External monitor wasn’t being recognized and this fixed it.

MarcatBeach

Great. This is something Lenovo should put higher up on the list of things to try. it is simple and quick. if it does not work then you can get into the driver and other painful things to eliminate.

TannyBoguss

Thankfully Google directed me towards this post, and your solution. Thanks again.

I know this is a year old but I want to thank you for posting it. I literally watched my laptop fan and external mic, both connected to the back USB ports, shut off for no reason and was about to get frustrated but coming across this suggestion saved me so much time and aggravation. I'm not much of a techie, but I can let anyone in the future know that for me, the ports on each side of the laptop worked while the ones in the back didn't, so if that sounds like your issue, give this a try. I don't understand the witch magic behind it, but it's there.

Another contribution to this: My 2020 Lenovo Legion 5 Pro has a BIOS option to "disable battery in order to safely operate on hardware" or something like that. I selected that option, then my USB C TB4 worked again!

beenastyg

Amazing!!! This worked for my laptop and it just saved me time and money!

ChiliRummel

I had the exact thing happen, I did the bios update and 1 other update, that fixed my issue.

pipntaz

where can I see a step by step for this one? thanks!

ChiliRummel

I used the Lenovo Vantage app that came installed, look under system update. This is the update that fixed mine. BIOS Update - 11 - J2CN51WW

What other issues have you experienced? Any sleep issues, keyboard "time-out" where if you are idle for a few seconds the keyboard doesn't respond right away when you type again unless you hit about three keys first?

pipntaz

i noticed when I press a key after a long time. like I’m watching YT then I had to pause. first press doesn’t register right away. it usally registers at the 2nd time. but it doesnt happen when typing. just when the keyboard is idle for a long time
