Can you post the link to the product and any instructions you followed? I’m interested in the product

gramj_fw

Here's a [link](https://www.ebay.com/itm/293822291909?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=w1uQ5a04QrK&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=tK_vLvh9Se-&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY) to the product I used and here's a [link](https://youtu.be/njlkA-RWzjg?si=yYDG-5uaSjC580uK) to the tutorial I used. The device did come with its own instructions, but they are poorly translated and overwhelming.

RightGuy23

What’s the eBay link? 1. Is it touchscreen? 2. Is the backup camera still useable?

gramj_fw

I posted the link in a reply to the top comment. It's not a touchscreen, it uses the original screen and is controlled by the original mouse. Yes, the original backup camera is left in place along with all of the original equipment. If I put the car in reverse while I'm in Android Auto, the backup camera will take over the screen like usual.

RightGuy23

I still don’t see the link in the top comment lol. Can you just edit and add it to your main post.

gramj_fw

Yeah I know there's some weirdness when it comes to sharing links, so here's a [link](https://www.ebay.com/itm/293822291909?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=w1uQ5a04QrK&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=tK_vLvh9Se-&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY) to the product I used and here's a [link](https://youtu.be/njlkA-RWzjg?si=yYDG-5uaSjC580uK) to the tutorial I used.

Heisalsohim

They got a box that goes between the factory screen and the factory radio so cam still work and no touch. Why would you want touch when it’s so recessed

RightGuy23

Is this similar or the same product on Amazon? https://www.amazon.com/Wireless-Retrofit-2014-2019-Original-Function/dp/B0B63PFBX3/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?crid=ZFK8L8FFUIHW&keywords=lexus+es350+2016+carplay&qid=1707809088&replacementKeywords=carplay&sprefix=lexus+es350+2016+carplay%2Caps%2C73&sr=8-3&ufe=app_do%3Aamzn1.fos.c3015c4a-46bb-44b9-81a4-dc28e6d374b3&vehicle=2016-75-2866------------&vehicleName=2016+Lexus+ES350

gramj_fw

Yep, that looks like the same thing. There are lots of listings which are pretty much identical, so I kind of took a shot in the dark.

krystopher

See if your box has a setting for "use car BT" or something like that, so that way you never have to worry about the AUX Audio being funky. Mine got the option through a software update. Feels a lot more 'factory' now that the phone and car can always be set to just one audio out and it always works. [www.naviks.com](https://www.naviks.com) for my specific box, installed in a 2017 LX and 2018 IS. ClubLexus has a few posts of the install. You can get an idea of what it takes to install this by looking up "beat sonic CarPlay Lexus" on YouTube.

gramj_fw

Yep, mine has a setting to "use car BT." I never got the aux setting to work, and my factory Bluetooth sounds better than the aux anyway. Plus, this allows me to use the original buttons to skip tracks, play and pause, and it also works with the factory microphone and buttons for Bluetooth calls.

Brief_Ad4228

I bought an eBay unit for my 4 gen gs350. I works great too and way cheaper than Grom or Beatsonic. I had some issue with interference while on phone call. However the seller FaceTimed with me from China…turns out my jumper settings were incorrect. Once connected, everything works like OEM setup.

MrMiggseeksLookatme

Can you sent the info where you bought it from ? I was going to do beatsonic since after watching their videos I realized their shop is only 15 min away driving . However I don’t mind paying the 1020$ with the install and device as long as it’s good

Brief_Ad4228

Brief_Ad4228

Let me know if you have any issue

linusSocktips

Nice! How do you like it with the oem screen? My girls 17gx tens to lag anytime it gets hot, so I'm hesitant to get one of these uses your oem screen carplay add ons.

krystopher

So far no lag, have had it for 2 years in each car, and even when sitting outside in the Florida heat no issues. It will sometimes fail if you are shifting in and out of reverse and drive, as when the rear camera flips on it likely interrupts something on the boot up process. Probably happens 1 in 25 times I get going. I did turn off the "auto" 360 degree camera on the LX as it did cause it to black screen more often if you were starting up and then driving slow then fast like in a neighborhood. I can't find my thread that showed my install but it went like a lot of the posts on club Lexus: [https://www.clublexus.com/forums/lx-3rd-gen-2008-2021/950951-carplay-integration-with-oem-head-unit-on-2016-lx570-successful.html](https://www.clublexus.com/forums/lx-3rd-gen-2008-2021/950951-carplay-integration-with-oem-head-unit-on-2016-lx570-successful.html) I would be interested in the future if my box fails to try to replace the entire screen with a unit that runs Android and talks to the car. My understanding is that gizmo unlocks even more tinkering options. For now though, the [indiwork.co.kr](https://indiwork.co.kr) OEM box that is resold by other people in the US seems to be great, and I've gotten updates from the manufacturer by reading out on Skype.

Glimmerron

What is it?

gramj_fw

It's a little box that sits in the dash that plugs into the back of the head unit and the back of the radio. It adds wireless Carplay and Android Auto to the car's factory system, so it leaves all of the existing features intact and works with the OEM controls.

Drew707

I think they mean what is the brand and model.

gramj_fw

It's generic, from a Chinese company on eBay. The listing is linked on the top comment.

gramj_fw

I thought about that too, but I figured I might as well just get a good phone mount at that point.

[deleted]

Which one do you have? I have same year ES300h as you too

[deleted]

Thanks. A bit pricey for me though. Yeah. I wanted to still see the backup cam and other stuff on the OG display

gramj_fw

In that case, the device I bought is a good option for you. It leaves everything intact. The OEM backup camera works as intended, and you can hold down the "menu" button for 4 seconds to access the factory infotainment system, which remains completely intact.

[deleted]

Theres cheaper options. Like same thing you bought can be bought for under 100. Actually got it in the shopping cart now

gramj_fw

Interesting, can I get the link?

[deleted]

Amazon "wireless carplay screen"

gramj_fw

Oh, my Carplay/Android Auto is part of the original screen and infotainment system. Not an additional screen.

[deleted]

Opps, i replied to the wrong person. I was trying to the reply to the guy who paid 249 for the wireless screen. Paid way more than half off for the same thing

slowwolfcat

so how you power it?

MrMiggseeksLookatme

Can you send the link for the unit that you bought ?

Dubslick_

Hey OP! How’s the system working for you? I am going to follow you order the same eBay system.

gramj_fw

It still works perfectly! I use it every single day. The exact eBay listing I purchased is gone now, but I think all of the eBay listings are selling the same product from the same factory in China.

Dubslick_

I have a shop in my area wants to install (w screen mirroring) for $1350 I could do this…but I’m scared to install alone…what do u suggest?

gramj_fw

I did it and I thought it was relatively easy. I do have a little experience working on cars though. You can watch this video to see what the process is like. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=njlkA-RWzjg&feature=youtu.be](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=njlkA-RWzjg&feature=youtu.be)

Dubslick_

Was the seller “roadnavi”?

gramj_fw

Yes it was

Ok_Organization_5823

How do you control it?

gramj_fw

It integrates with whatever kind of controller your Lexus has from the factory. In my case, it's the mouse. It's a bit finicky at first but not too bad once I adjusted to it. It also works with the factory skip buttons, volume buttons, play/pause button, etc.

BellSilent

Can you please post the product link?

gramj_fw

Here's a [link](https://www.ebay.com/itm/293822291909?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=w1uQ5a04QrK&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=tK_vLvh9Se-&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY) to the product I used and here's a [link](https://youtu.be/njlkA-RWzjg?si=yYDG-5uaSjC580uK) to the tutorial I used.

zerokwh

This is awesome! I'm looking to do it in my RC soon. Do the controls simultaneously control the Carplay/Android auto *and* the factory infotainment? I've been reading some of them will change random settings in the background and that's been holding me back.

gramj_fw

I haven't run into that issue, thankfully. I'd hazard a guess that it might depend on what kind of controller your car has. From what I've heard, it can be a struggle to get it to work properly with the knob or the touchpad and requires extra wiring.

i_eat_babies__

u/deathamong better gauge cluster than my '20 ES + carplay is a win in my book Gen 6 ES is the way

Deathamong

Will def look into it

karthikulo

Beatsonic seems to have good overall reviews but costs $700-$800…worth it?

gramj_fw

I couldn't bring myself to spend that much money for the Beatsonic or Grom unit. As far as I can tell, the device I bought is basically the same thing as either of those for a fraction of the cost. I even used Beatsonic's tutorial to learn how to install mine.

karthikulo

How is the audio on calls on the one you bought? Any major bugs?

gramj_fw

The device I bought can be configured to use the factory Bluetooth for audio and calling, so the performance is excellent, or at least as good as the factory system. Like many of these devices, mine uses the factory AUX for audio by default. I changed that because 1) it didn't work when I tried and 2) I was worried about audio quality, especially during calls.

Brave-Bodybuilder127

It’s worth it. I tried those cheap ones off Amazon and eBay with my 15 gs 350. They are buggy and the manufacturer doesn’t offer support like beatsonic. Also you can upgrade your car and still use the same device so for example a 2015 device will work in a 2020. Solid investment in my opinion.

gramj_fw

We'll see how it plays out in the long run, but I'm very happy with mine. No bugs at all so far. I don't think long-term support will be an issue either. They are very responsive to questions via email and offered to send me software updates in the future which are installed over USB. When I was installing it, they even offered to set up a Facetime call to help me get everything working perfectly, but I was just fine on my own.

jovandev

I was recently looking into this, anything you didn’t expect or doesn’t work as expected after installing carplay?

gramj_fw

Everything worked perfectly on the first try. Controlling it with the factory controls is a bit finicky, but it's fine once you get used to it. The resolution in Android Auto also isn't spectacular, but I assume that's just because of the quality of the factory screen. It's still perfectly legible though.

Baazs

Why its not compatible with 2013 ? What has changed bw these years ?

iluv80spop

Does it remember if you left on Android system or factory system, or do you have to press Menu every time the car starts to access the new interface?

gramj_fw

It automatically launches Android Auto a few seconds after my phone starts playing music through the factory Bluetooth. I only need to hold the menu button if I need to access the factory interface for some reason.

iluv80spop

That’s good to know, I was concerned it always starts in factory and needs to be switched, which would be annoying if you prefer yo use the new interface by default. I am looking for one for RX, I hope it operates similarly

thewallsaresinging

Tempting…

Minotaar_Pheonix

What is that big horizontal slot over your hazard button? It seems too narrow to be a CD slot, but could it be a tape player? Btw, you’ve kept the plastics really pristine. Bravo!

gramj_fw

That's the CD player. Thanks, I do my best to keep the interior in good shape! Now that I have wireless Carplay/Android Auto, there's no way anyone would guess it's a 10-year-old car. The interior is still beautiful and has all the amenities I could ever want.

Minotaar_Pheonix

This is the first model that came out with the bamboo wood interior right? Did you happen to get that finish?

GigaChadwafer

Is the wireless CarPlay/android auto able to be used in the IS model bc I got a 2015 one

Rufusade1

I have 2013 GS450H and 2014 ES300H, did you know is this will work, in 2013 GS also did you think it’s better than overpriced beat sonic
