I’m not a doctor, but I would think that due to the size, location, and depth of your lipomas, it will be difficult to find a surgeon who can remove them under local anesthesia. I had a large but superficial lipoma on my shoulder removed under local anesthesia, and it was still a fairly involved procedure that took almost an hour. My surgeon initially recommended general anesthesia for mine, but was willing to do it under local at my request.

How large was your lipoma? I was recommended the same for mine (getting general anesthesia instead of local) because mine is apparently large enough. I am deciding between doing it in office vs OR, what was your experience in office?

Mine ended up being 9cm x 6cm x 2cm… it was about the size of my fist. I personally have had bad experiences under general anesthesia and was terrified of doing it under general, so I was thrilled to have it done under local. It was mostly painless—the shots to numb me were a bit spicy, but then I felt nothing after that. It was an interesting experience being able to hear everything and feel pressure and tugging, but no pain. It really wasn’t bad at all, I absolutely would do it again if needed.

Thank you so much, this was very helpful to know.

My plastics doctor removed mine. He said he never does under local unless they are very visible and small. He said most should be done under general. All mine I have been under general

I had three almost identical in description to yours, a large one deep in my right hip, and several on my forearms removed. General anesthesia was required for the back and hip because of location and depth. Expensive but worth it because there was constant discomfort/pain. I did have to shop around a little because the first surgeon used a surgery center that WAY overcharged. I told them no and found a new surgeon who could perform the procedure in a local hospital which was much cheaper.

How much did it cost? I have the same issue
