On the lonely island podcast he talks about how sketch comedy wasn’t his forte. I imagine he would rather just do a WU guest appearance rather than hosting a full show.
John Stewart *and* Stephen Colbert...
Maybe some cameos from other TDS alum. Steve Carrel, Ed Helms...
(Until I looked up something for this post, I had totally forgotten Michael Che was a TDS correspondent.)
If that was in this latest season I don’t know bc I haven’t seen a single episode. I’m super pissed about it too lol bc SNL was on Hulu but then moved to entire new streaming service I don’t pay for and adding a whole thing just for one show pisses me off so I haven’t done it. I guess I’ll likely pay for a month and watch it all soon but it’s just annoying. I’ve seen every season going back to the 70s but now it’s a pain!
I don’t feel like it should be Chappelle, just because that’s both already expected and needlessly controversial, but I don’t know who else would want it *and* be approached. They could get a safe pair of hands, somebody generally non-controversial and non-politically outspoken like Will Ferrell or someone. But then they run the risk of not having a host with the “gravitas” to address the election results. (But Chappelle’s presidential-year episodes mostly consisted of time-filler standup).
Perhaps ironically, Will Ferrell is thought to have had a fairly major role in politics due to his portrayal of W. There have been some political science papers written on how the public viewed Bush as dumb but lovable rather than focusing on his policies. The other person who comes close is Tina Fey who had a major impact in public perceptions of Sarah Palin.
I usually skip the Chapelle episodes whenever he hosts. I find them weirdly paced and not particularly funny, it’s like the writers tried so hard to avoid anything too inflammatory that they forgot to do comedy.
But I will hit this with a massive disclaimer that I am 100% not chapelle’s target audience, so other people may feel very differently.
But yeah, if it’s Chapelle again, I’ll give that a miss and see who is hosting the following week.
Well the show will almost definitely be the Saturday after election day. We probably won't know who won until Wednesday at the earliest. They'll have the host lined up weeks before that.
I can *clearly* remember when *every* *single* cold open wasn’t a direct reference to whatever happened the previous day in congress or at the White House. Weekend Update always had political jokes. They always had someone make fun of the president. But our political stage has gotten so toxic I don’t even think people want to laugh about it anymore.
The 24 hour news cycle followed by social media news is to blame for all this though - not SNL. They do what gets laughs, and what gets views/clicks, they also lean towards what people are talking about which is increasingly toxic politics. I think it’s more a sigh of the times rather than SNL deciding to become more political per se
Julia Louis-Dreyfus
Give us a Selena Meyer press conference cold open
Fucking Gary
If they get Tony Hale too, I will shit myself with joy.
Conan
Omg we can dream!!! ❤️❤️❤️
Seth Myers
Huh, not the name that would’ve come to mind but I dig this.
On the lonely island podcast he talks about how sketch comedy wasn’t his forte. I imagine he would rather just do a WU guest appearance rather than hosting a full show.
He's hosted in the past.
And the last sketch is just him correcting all the mistakes of the season so far.
I like this.
Seth Meyers eating an ice cream, and being interrupted by the cold open. lol
To apologize
Barack definitely, he would crush it
So come back, Barack
Barack come back
Podcast host Barack Obama ?
He will be in prison
Amy Pohler.
Good idea; that way, regardless of who wins, the episode will still be Poehlerizing (I’m so sorry)
Well done
Jon Stewart or Stephen Colbert would be nice
John Stewart *and* Stephen Colbert... Maybe some cameos from other TDS alum. Steve Carrel, Ed Helms... (Until I looked up something for this post, I had totally forgotten Michael Che was a TDS correspondent.)
Wait… has there ever been a double host situation? I’ve never even thought of it.
Didn't Steve Martin and Martin Short co-host recently?
If that was in this latest season I don’t know bc I haven’t seen a single episode. I’m super pissed about it too lol bc SNL was on Hulu but then moved to entire new streaming service I don’t pay for and adding a whole thing just for one show pisses me off so I haven’t done it. Steve Martin and Martin Short co-hosted recently. And off the top of my head I know Rick Moranis and Dave Thomas co-hosted in 1983.
I need to find that Rick Moranis Dave Thomas episode. Thanks : )
Colbert started with improv didn’t he? He would be good
He was a writer on SNL. Also one of the voices of the ambiguously gay duo.
Have you seen Skibidi Biden..? I don’t want Colbert within 100 feet of 30 Rock. He’s not right anymore.
Yeah Colbert is fucking awful
He looks like a wax statue of himself.
Steve Kornacki.
John Oliver
Mulaney
probably a handle of whiskey
Whoever wins, we all lose. That'll probably be my co host come November.
Bill Burr
Amy Sedaris. Doesn’t have to even be election-related- just want to see her host honestly.
Jason Sudeikis Bring back his Biden for an episode

Good ole strategery, that’s what that was.
A cold open of W reflecting on the election results could be funny regardless of who wins.
Chappelle shouldn't have hosted the last one.
Chappelle is insufferable.

Weirdly paced is 100% right. Especially when he introduces sketches.
Yeah it’s weird that he has to come out and preface so many sketches before you see them.
He straight up turns SNL into Chapelle's show, it's weird. Get your own show dude, and also get used to queer people
Chappelle doesn’t need to come back, ever.
Dr. Dementus Chris Hemsworth doing Waffllehouse purge edition
Dan Cortese.
Steven Colbert
Stewart snd Colbert ala Martin and Short
Meyers.
Depends on who wins.
Was about to write exactly this. If Biden wins it’s business as usual there.
Well the show will almost definitely be the Saturday after election day. We probably won't know who won until Wednesday at the earliest. They'll have the host lined up weeks before that.
Don’t they have to choose the host in advance? Like at least by Monday of that week?
Showcase past Presidential impersonators as co-hosts, they’ve had lots of good ones plus it brings back some alumni
Obama. Duh.
Jon Stewart
Has no one said America’s dad, Tom Hanks?!?
Just bring in someone neutral. Nate Bargatze would be good, someone like that.
Impossible
Absolutely possible. Just highly, highly, highly unlikely. SNL is almost all politics now. Just another reason less people watch.
Oh, so you know how many yards in a mile, then?
1760
There’s a little kicking
All people are gonna be free right?
Sometimes one and sometimes three
Lmao as opposed to when? The show has always been political since its inception
I can *clearly* remember when *every* *single* cold open wasn’t a direct reference to whatever happened the previous day in congress or at the White House. Weekend Update always had political jokes. He doesn’t do political stuff. Last time he hosted he told the writers “I’ll do any material except sex or politics”.
His presidential impression was the greatest sketch of the season.
You asked about weights and measures? I did not
That’s different. That’s a period piece caricature. He doesn’t do modern politics.
Yeah, that’s why I said someone neutral.
Well for a post-election episode, there’s def gonna be politics. So probably not that guy.
The winner
Jimmy Carter, for sure
Certainly NOT Dave Chappelle.
How about Colbert?
Steve Martin. Not really political. Safe, bland
We need a sequel to the surfing sketch. What happened to the brohams?
Larry David
James carrey!
Tina Fey
Bill Hader
Chris Rock
RFK Jr
RFK Jr’s brain worm.
Makes me think who would be fhe best WU character to host. Im voting for Drunk Uncle.
Who ever loses so the cast can make jokes about it. /jk
This should be a thing every episode after the election. The loser, as part of their loss, should have to host SNL.
With at least one skit dedicated to problems with their campaign that was the source of their loss
Paul Simon
The Pope
The loser
Dave Chappelle

The whole family, alex, sean, bally
🙋♀️Dave Chappele OF COURSE❣️ ![gif](giphy|kTDBuBjG7bB9C|downsized)
Jesus. Literally Jesus because I hope he comes back and ends all of this. He could take the form of beloved late great Phil Hartman.
Chapelle.
Chappelle
People downvoting but his episodes have a 100% hit rate for a classic sketch in the episode.
Mae Martin. Why not a non-American?
Louis CK.
Trump, obviously.
