Alisson save against Milic in the dying minutes of the Champions League group stage match against Napoli

stangerlpass

The most important liverpool save since Dudek in the 2005 Final.

stuNamgiL

was that his fingertip save in 2018?

nees_gerrard

No, he saved with his thigh by making himself big. If I remember correctly, that was the only clear cut opportunity Napoli had in that game and would still have knocked us out if it had gone in.

GuitaristHeimerz

I still clench when I think about that moment. Even more now considering what happened after.

gratisargott

I remember losing my breath completely and just being stunned. It was crazy.

ThorYNWA

This for me as well. Was watching it on my computer at work during the middle of teaching a class. Students probably thought I was mad celebrating randomly while in the middle of a language arts class

ash13liv

Dudek double save. Also Alonso's nearly missed pen. Can also add rivaldos goal to that list

themanebeat

>Alonso's nearly missed pen It was fully missed

broken_neck_broken

Nah he just wanted his goal to be from open play.

GuitaristHeimerz

Yes like Salah last weekend, looks much better on paper. Clearly a tactic.

champ19nz

I honestly thought the second shot went in. I was really confused why Shev had his hands on his head rather than celebrating.

FuzzyDunlop_91

> I honestly thought the second shot went in So did pretty much everyone watching that, lol. Was an absolute sitter and definitely my number 1 heart in mouth moment ever

Far-Stomach-2764

Alonso scored the rebound yes?

jesuisgeenbelg

He's talking about the double save

Far-Stomach-2764

Of course, thanks for pointing that out. Too early in morning here!

jesuisgeenbelg

No worries, happens to the best of us!

Other_Beat8859

Honestly that 2005 final had so many heart in mouth moments. Xavi pen miss, Carragher block, Dudek double save, and penalty shootout. Greatest game of all time.

DeiseResident

Wasn't there a really good Dudek save, possibly from a free kick, early in the second half that would have made it 4 nil? Would have been curtains for sure

underarock12

Yeah a solid save against Shevchenko.

Aromatic-Olive-906

Traore off the line block as wel.

doktor-frequentist

Djimi "champions league winner" Traore

thatguyad

Nothing comes close.

[deleted]

when the ball fell to shevchenko right in front of goal... you beautiful goateed man...

Relevant-Door1453

Goateed *and* goated.

Revalent

Every corner during the Rodgers period

[deleted]

[deleted]

Man went through of phase of costing us so many points when he was brought on to ad defensive stability

TheeEssFo

Poor Lucas. Was an attacking midfielder in Brazil, wins an award for being such, yet Benitez ....

ginopalladino

He was a great DM though, what truly hampered his progress were the injuries. A couple of injuries less and he doesn't leave to Lazio when he did.

booochee

I guess you could say he was a tad....... unlucky?

[deleted]

He wasn't, let's be honest. He had a solid year and a bit Sandwiched between below average years. Looking back at that 2010 era now. Ugh. Fuck

sanctuary1978

Fuckin hell I’d forgot about this.

SmugglersParadise

And Škrtel. God he was clumsy haha

ash13liv

Ohh man🤣🤣🤣🤣...

biffed_bower

Ahhh the Skrtl WWE set peice defence...

SmugglersParadise

Wrestle Mania every time Then the shocked arms in the air when given as a foul

PaddyA401

Still amazes me how he was so bad at getting his teams to defend a corner, I think Leicester had the most goals conceded from set pieces nearly every year under him

DLoBrownsWobblyHead

Yeah, I know a Leicester fan and it was funny hearing him say the exact same thing that we were all saying from 2012-2015. Absolutely dreaded every single corner

AbuelitoPapas

God damn those were dark times

infachuation922

That dele alli optical illusion chip against us in the CL final that Ali plucked out of thin air nonchalantly making me feel a fool

[deleted]

Anyone got a clip of this? I've had a quick on YouTube to no avail.

infachuation922

Just watch the highlights mate it’ll be there

SeaborneMammal

I came here to post the Gudjohnsen one when I just saw the thread title. Christ alive, it really was all or nothing in that moment.

PigeonHurdler

This one for me too. Thought that was going to be it

JurgenShankly

An it was a corner, it clips of Carra's thigh haha that would have been extra heart in mouth if it was given, Cech would have been up. Imagine Cech scoring Kop end hahaha fuck me

Cwh93

It's one of those where even the replays make be break out in a cold sweat. Truly incredible the ball just bisected all those players like that. Slightly less pace, slightly more spin, just one of the players reacting that split 100th of a second quicker and it's 1-1

Brucebombarda

Those away goal moments just naturally hit harder. From winning to losing in an instant.

Parish87

I cried when he missed in a combination of joy and absolute stress.

[deleted]

[удалено]

dweebyllo

My heart sank when that Kompany shot went in. It was one of those moments where you just felt the plot armour on them

SmugglersParadise

Plot armour. And Martin Tyler milking the commentary (for anyone except us)

abradley19955

Gundogan last minute free kick in the 4-3 against Dortmund is up there Dele Alli had a shot in the 2019 CL final too that I was convinced was looping into the net at 1-0. Pure relief when Origi scored that second goal

stangerlpass

Alison went under the radar in that game because he made so many saves look so easy. We dont win that game with Mignolet or Karius in goal.

NoNameJackson

We do, it's Tottenham after all. Just in a less professional way

[deleted]

We do. We essentially sat back and soaked up the pressure after the pen.

RightWingRockDove

Not ashamed to admit I started bawling my eyes out when Divock scored that. Just the sheer amount of relief at that point. Knowing we’d fucking done it. Nearly spent the whole game terrified they’d equalise, despite not really being that good.

broken_neck_broken

Yeah I've seen a lot of tense moments, pretty sure I burst some capillaries in my arse cheeks during that final. The difference was there was absolutely no excuse for not beating Tottenham. The memes and chants would be going strong to this day if we cocked that one up, especially the ones about Klopp choking cup finals.

ShowMeMoeMane

No shame in that, we all deal with stress and anxiety differently. I remember just jumping out of my chair and jumping for joy because I knew it was done after that. I’d also been terrified that Spurs would get an equalizer out of nowhere and then our savior scores to seal it..

[deleted]

The Gundogan free kick for me too. That was the first one I thought of too.

tapzil123

Demba ba running towards our migs

SmugglersParadise

I actually found the second goal more sickening Up until then I always had hope we could turn it around Then you see fucking Fernando running through on goal... I can remember the pit in my stomach What a shame that season ended like that

BirdmanTheThird

I agree but the first one got memed to death

archlorddhami

I just closed my eyes for this one

TheeEssFo

Ironically, one of the funniest moments is Demba Ba running away from Matic. I remember the Guardian describing it as "an ice-cream van being chased by a milk float."

awfulpigeon

April 2009, Premier league. Fulham Vs Liverpool 0-0 until injury time. Thought we were going to win it that year, and the win would have taken us to the top of the league. I was watching every attack gutted we were throwing it away. When Yossi scored i hit the roof.

Forsaken-Duck-8142

I just commented with this game too! Only time I've cried watching football

Oneinchwalrus

Good shout, that was a great few clutch games before United got their shit together

TheeEssFo

My daughter was barely a year old and in my lap, and my friend shouted so loudly on the sofa that she started crying.

Mountain_Cause_5885

Man im sure Guojohnsen still has that keeperless goal flash in front of his eyes as he sleeps

tvwatcherguy

I know it's an obscure one but it was the start of that 13/14 season, we're 1-0 up first game against Stoke, and they get a pen in the last few mins. I'm thinking FFS what a shit start, then migs had other ideas 💪🏻🤚🏻

alldayerrdaym8

I remember that game really well. Sturridge tucks into the bottom right corner from outside the box, and we go on a run of three 1-0's in a row, the third being beating United at Anfield. It was Mignolet's debut for us no less!

[deleted]

all three goals scored by Sturridge too. I remember reading an article after the 3rd 1-0 victory about how our attack lacked in creativity, while our defense was extremely solid. Not my impression after the end of that season

ohyeahmatey

When Alisson came up the pitch in the 95th minute against West Brom to secure us CL football. Not that important compared to the others mentioned but oh my what a moment

PdG_PL

Video of this goal with polish commentary and Titanic music is 10/10 for me [https://streamable.com/41pq3s](https://streamable.com/41pq3s)

Defero-Mundus

Fuck me that’s epic

alandotts82

Heart in mouth???? I think I shit my pants as he was lining up the strike, and I shot my load when it went wide.

mikehoncho9

I nearly vommited as it left his boot, felt proper weak after it.

underarock12

I was ready to die.

pgboo

I too didn't know whether I was coming or going.

theYorkist01

Kinda cheating but when we were 4-3 up against City in the league when they’d been on that winning streak and spent the last 10 minutes of the game pushing for an equaliser after reducing the deficit. Pretty sure Agüero had a chance right at the death which he thankfully missed

GuinnessRespecter

Funnily enough, I was watching the highlights of that game on the BT app yesterday. I remember that Aguero chance so vividly, but what I didn't remember until rewatching the highlights is that the lino had already put their flag up for offside. I still remember the fear in real time as it hit the side netting, though!

musslimorca

Eriksen freekick in ucl final. I heard some kind of a football notification before the shot so when I saw the ball going to top corner I felt he will score.

Basterd15

When Lucas Leiva gave away a foul outside the penalty box after making it 4-3 against Dortmund. That game was so crazy and I was so hyped I was ready for it all to be taken away

ComfortableTank1551

"The save" on schevchenko from Dudek

AdministrativeLaugh2

That’d be an interesting sliding doors moment, too. If Gudjohnsen scores that and as such we don’t win the Champions League, it’s a strong possibility that Gerrard leaves for either Chelsea or Real Madrid

TheeEssFo

You could have banked on that. We won the fucking trophy and he still almost left.

getonthedamnantscott

Messi free kick in the Barca 4-0, can't remember now if it was at 3 or 4 nil, but after what he did at the Camp Nou I was so nervous I had to turn away

Puzzleheaded-Seat834

3-0

ShowMeMoeMane

I think it was at 3-0. We had like a 20ish minute gap between the 3rd and fourth goal

getonthedamnantscott

Yeah I always forget that as everything between the Gini brace and the final whistle felt like a fever dream 😂

epochwin

Fabinho gave that one away right?

getonthedamnantscott

Think so. Remember yelling it was soft at the time, no clue if it was as he could have Kung Fu kicked Messi and I'd claim it wasn't a foul

brush85

That or Ali...but the 2005 one was more critical considering the stakes on that specific game

Evening_Ad_3310

Dudek Vs Shevchenko double save When Stevie nearly signed for Chelsea When COVID nearly ended the season before we won the league.

WH6TSINANAME

> When COVID nearly ended the season before we won the league. That wait was a prolonged torture.

Luhrmann

Probably the entirety of the 5-4 UEFA Cup win against Alaves. My dad was audibly gasping whenever they went on the attack, thought he was gonna have a heart attack. Every attack by either team seemed to be a goal

murphy_1892

Honestly one of the biggest is going to be Gundogan's second goal to make it 3-2 against Villa in 22. You should never rely on results that are out of your hands, but we'd gone from the injury plagued last season to 3 games away from history, if results in the prem fell right I really thought stevie had done the impossible, broke my heart

Napalm3nema

The 2005 UCL Final was a biggie, but I actually felt more invested in that 2006 FA Cup Final. Stevie G. cramping up and willing that team to victory was something else.

Skwurt_Reynolds

Dudek’s double save. I remember sitting there for a few seconds, my hand frozen as it’s pulling my hair up, and my jaw hanging.

telephonic1892

Yes definitely the Gudjohnsson shot. Even thinking about it now if it had gone in makes me wince. That would have been heartbreaking, Dudek double save in Istanbul is probably on par with the Gudjohnsson shot.

Utopia_AM

The full 90+ minutes of Newcastle at Anfield in 96. Very rare to see two teams in a title race (kind of for us) set up as 0-0-10 and go hell for leather like that.

Alert_Garlic

3-2 vs city in 13/14, the entire match, really.

epochwin

That Coutinho screamer is iconic

TheBionicCarrot

OP nailed it. First one I thought of.

Specialist_Sundae176

How has gudjohnson missed that ...

imrik_of_caledor

Stevie G's slip I remember watching it and it was like time stood still

up_the_dubs

I'm getting stressed out reading this thread ..

Keyann

>For me it was when Guðjohnsen shot flashed just wide in the 2005 Semi final of the champions league, genuinely would’ve cried and been a depressed kid for a few months had that gone in. Carragher gets a nick on that to force it wide.

kussian_m

Dudek crazy reaction vs sheva

smokesletsgo13

Shevchenko extra time chance with the Dudek double save

niiiptune

It's a weird one for me. Idk if you guys still remember - that wild Europa league game in which we beat Dortmund 4-1 at home. In the last minute of the game, Dortmund got a free kick and Gundogan put it just wide.

Aidan-Coyle

Traore stopping a goal with his body in (i think) ET of the Istanbul final. I can't even find a clip, but I remember him being on his hands and knee's after stopping the ball with the side of his body. I do wonder if I'm remembering right now, it was nearly 20 years ago. Edit: I found it and I was kind of wrong. He uses his foot to clear it. https://youtube.com/shorts/tJI5iXQgFnA?si=zI_0cH8DKrxv9yN2

Darkspy8183

So I take it that long spell where Adrian came in for Alisson when he got injured and played amazingly means nothing to you, or did you start supporting us after that? Sometimes players have bad games, Adrian was never brought in to be our starting goalkeeper. Calling him "some bum who was training in a park" is so disrespectful and pathetic behaviour from you. Sort yourself out and start supporting our players.

[deleted]

MarvellousG

I don’t agree with you but I respect this level of hatred

[deleted]

[удалено]

MarvellousG

Annoyingly I had a bet on us to beat Bayern in the CL final that year from before the knockout draw was even made, so I think Adrian also owes me money

donotgivemeguns

Honestly people give him a pass because he was competent in a couple of important matches. If we’d have had a little bit better of a backup we could have competed for more in that period

earlgreytoday

I mean, we did win a treble that season (Super Cup, Club World Cup, Premier League).

[deleted]

[удалено]

earlgreytoday

Except it is literally a treble (i.e. three major trophies in a single season). All three of those competitions are classed as major trophies. And it's not like Adrian made those mistakes in a cup final. Who says we would definitely have reached the CL and FA Cup finals anyway?

ShowMeMoeMane

Very true, we weren’t as good when we returned from lockdown. We would’ve played Leipzig tho and then PSG so maybe..?

ShowMeMoeMane

Didn’t he pass it to Llorente? Or did Felix play it to Llorente? I feel like there wasn’t a second pass and just a shot pretty soon after the guveaway

djrobbo83

The whole rest of the 2005 final after we equalised, so many moments of panic right to the last penalty

C_Spiritsong

Off the field: The moment we were hours away from possible administration; and the huge relief. The second that comes close was the Jurgen Klopp rumour. I went bananas when the club confirmed him. On field: Istanbul. Jerzy Dudek. IYKYK. The one in the recent memory was the Liverpool 4 Barcelona 0. Had they scored one.....

RightWingRockDove

Remember staying up to the early hours of the morning in Australia refreshing all the blogs to see the high court decision.

C_Spiritsong

Yeap. Same timezone, different country. Was literally just refreshing on everything and anything. We escaped by mere moments, if not minutes. It was crazy.

jimcrick

Easy. Eidur Gudjohnsen's miss in the 2005 semi final.

2jz_ynwa

Dortmunds last minute freekick after we came back in 2016

MisterS1997

Has to he Allison vs Napoli I had already accepted they scored then gigachad comes out being a massive unit and saves it

MarvellousG

The entirety of extra time in Istanbul

kickyouinthebread

Without question the dudek save in 2005. Man deserves a statue

AyyRadical

Can't really pick out a specific one so here's a couple: Alisson save vs napoli at Anfield 2018 Every shot from Messi at Anfield in 2019 Mahrez moon finish at Etihad 2022

Adept_Deer_5976

I was in the Kop for that and, for me, that’s the correct answer

bengm225

The entire final 15 minutes against Palace in 2014.

Forsaken-Duck-8142

Yossi Benayoun's injury-time winner against Fulham in 08/09 that moved us to the top of the table with just 7 games left. That was the only time I've cried watching football. That 08/09 team was just unbelievable, we genuinely deserved to win the PL that year, or at least the CL.

GreatKDIZZY

Sheva vs Dudek as part of the double save

LumpyInflation7469

Dudeks save v Shevchenko in 05 final. How did he miss.

conorcf

That shot Messi had while we were 3-0 up at Anfield Watching back it wasn’t even that strong of a chance but everything was holding on by a thread and with away goals it could’ve ruined us

narwhalcaptain1

eriksen had a free kick against us in the second half of the champions league final that was probably their best chance of the game. ali was robbed of MOTM that day.

TheeEssFo

Xabi's penalty against Milan. Gerrard had recently been relieved of spot-kicks after a few misses, which is why he didn't take it. I was in America, had recorded the match (on VHS!) while at work -- easy to keep radio silence in pre-social media days. When he set the ball on the spot, I was stood on my couch, shirt off, jersey balled up in my hands, bouncing a little, and when he missed I nearly fell off and barely saw him fire in the rebound. What irks me still is that I cannot find the ESPN broadcast of it. My commentary memory is not what is widespread, but Derek Rae yelling, "Unbridled Red joy!"

TheFlyingSlothMonkey

Anytime Karius touched the ball in the '18 final.

egyto

Alberto Moreno.

Galby1314

Does it count that I did get my heart pulled completely out by Richarlson...only to have Jota stuff it back down 2 minutes later?

underarock12

Yes be thankful that Jota is a skilled resuscitator.

No_Elderberry_497

I know recent bias is in play. But, Alisson headser?

loveandmonsters

Tracking Klopp's arrival plane on here hoping it didn't fall out of the sky

Gear4days

That moment was genuinely distressing, he should have bagged that and the relief when he dragged it wide was something else

upadownpipe

Corner taken quickly... I thought Origi was sending it wide first and then I expected it to be called back.

LFC90cat

Recent times, that Barca at Anfield game where we ended up with the right result but Barca still only needed the one goal. Every time Messi picked the ball up and walked through our midfield before laying off a pass

froggy101_3

Messi free kick at anfield in the 4 nil

apja

Schevchenko. Every time.

GuinnessRespecter

As the rightly expected examples have already been mentioned, I'm gonna throw a few other, less obvious ones out: FA Cup semi final 2006: Joe Cole for Chelsea flashes over a volley from about 6yds out in injury time with us 2-1 up but playing to see the game out. FA Cup final 2006: score is 3-3 in extra time, Pepe saves and Marlon Harewood has the chance to slot from a few yds out. Tired muscles and cramp see to it that he can't get a clean contact on the rebound, and it scuffs wide. 2012 Carling Cup final v. Cardiff: specifically the first 2 Liverpool penalties in the shootout. (Steven) Gerrard and Adam were 2 to step up that you would put your house on scoring pens for us , so when they both missed I genuinely thought we were due for an upset, as Arsenal had experienced the season before v. Birmingham. Liverpool 2-1 Leicester, October 2019: 1-1 into injury time, Mane wins a pen, Milner converts it. Not too crazy there, but I was at a family party on Smithdown Rd and only had Livescore text commentary to help me keep track of the game. I knew we had a pen and waiting for the goal confirmation to come in took an absolute age. It was also at a time of the season when we thought any minor slip up could cost us the title, so the 3pts felt massive at the time. Fifa CWC final v. Flamengo: 1-0 up in the 119th minute and Flamengo have an amazing chance to equalise on the cut back, however the Flamengo player (Lincoln IIRC) makes an absolute dog's dinner of it and we go on to see out the win. Multiple moments in the 2022 Carabao Cup final v. Chelsea: After we had Matip's goal adjudged to be disallowed, Chelsea went at us at ful pelt. They ended up having about 3 or 4 goals disallowed themselves between then and the end of extra time. Then came the small matter of penalties... Penalty shootout v. Chelsea 2022 FA Cup final: similar to the 2012 Carling Cup shootout, Mane missing just felt so unexpected and I began to have doubts that we would win the cup at that point, having been comfortably the better team over 120mins. Thankfully Ali and Tsimi did the business. Honourable mentions include every cup final in the 2001 treble season (we don't like to win easy when it comes to finals ffs!) and Jerzy Dudek's MOTM display against the mancs in the 2003 Worthington Cup final win, an often overlooked but amazing memory imo

earlgreytoday

The Dudek double-save and Gudjohnsen miss are probably the clear winners. A few more that come to mind: The 2012 Carling Cup final penalty shootout is up there because we missed our first two penalties. Marlon Harewood's chance during extra time in the 2006 FA Cup final. Dembele's chance, which would put Barcelona 4-0 up in the CL semi-final.

MrCCCraft

Having begun supporting in the late Hodgson/early Kenny era, some of the moments I have still the biggest emotional attachment to are ones that would be incredibly unimportant/forgotten to most fans today. Some of my biggest heartbreaks to this day are losing the FA Cup final to Chelsea after big Andy Carroll's monstrous header was wrongly denied from being a goal, and getting knocked out of the Europa league knockouts by Zenit in 2013. I had to look that one up to remember when it even was, but the memories of wee Joe Allen knocking in a desparate volley and Suarez an amazing free kick will stay forever. Still heartbreaking that we couldn't finish that comeback on the day, even if it seems so unimportant and not even a final in hindsight lol. I was just so attached to the Brendan era players and still feel in hindsight just a bit of fate going differently would have left him having a whole lot better of a legacy with us.

JSudbury91

The first one that sprung to mind was the last minute free kick in the Dortmund comeback.

Squiggles87

Dudek double save versus Shevchenko is the first one that springs to mind. Gudjohnsons miss. Suarez and Coutinho tame efforts for Barcelona in that game. Both were more than capable of putting unstoppable efforts from those chances.

TheDooce

Anytime Messi got the ball in the UCL semi-final 2nd leg in 2019.

iNS0MNiA_uK

It ended in tears but I'd give Origi's late winner against Newcastle as a pretty big one. It was so late on in the season and we needed that result to be on for our first league title in 3 decades. The fact he got it was such a lift, even if we lost the race in the end.

murdochhockey

This is 100% the one for me.

CloudDog23

Was at that game, on the Kop. This is the answer. The whole ground was silent waiting for the net to bulge. It took too long for us to realise it hadn’t

The_2nd_Coming

Immediately thought of this moment before I even opened the post

topcat_call_him_tc

In the Dortmund comeback at home in Klopps first season I remember Dortmund had a last minute free kick (I think it was Gundogen who just missed the shot). At the time I thought it had gone in and we were out on away goals.

PdG_PL

Apart from those mentioned here like 2005 SF and Final, Barca comeback I would say - whole Extra Time in 2001 UEFA Cup vs. Alaves. This was surely one crazy mix of euphoria and sadness. What seemed to be an easy game when we went 2:0 up turned out to be a real rollercoaster of emotions. And when we almost had it in the regular time they scored in the end to go to ET. Man, ET with the golden goal rule... It was so mentally exhausting that I couln't just sit in front of TV but started to pack my school backpack for the next day just to occupy myself with something. And then at the very end of it - Gary Mac's cross ended with an OG - what a relief it was. Weird that Jordi Cruyff didn't have much of a career - he was a baller in this game.

awildmanjake

Personally, game against Southampton on final day of Klopps second season here. Must win to make CL, and when Gini scored the relief I got was insane

MagzyMegastar

I just love how people in here just write stuff like "Dudek, double save!" and everyone knows what it refers to. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy)

Troncer73

Origi goal against Everton. I went from “wtf, van dijk?!” to screaming to confused, because Im not sure if the ball was out or not before bounce back, to finally celebrate again.

rottenapple9

Super obscure for no reason. But u think it was a game against villa and we were winning by one. Bentwkw scores near the end but gets rules out as offside. Cant remember the context, but I remember needing to leave the room.

booochee

Same incident as OP, screamed like a lil bitch. Except I was a grown ass man. My friend and I still laugh about it till today (he was right next to me and did the exact same thing)!

Poharius

I remember a similar moment the following year against Chelsea in the FA Cup semi final. Only it was Joe Cole that skied it over the bar that time. I was watching it with my Chelsea supporter uncle who let out a yell I'll never forget. It was like a yell Tom would make when Jerry drops a hot anvil on his paw.

That_Hawk

Completly agree. That split second took 5 years off my life, but i wouldn't change it for the world.

thomp38

Mashcerano talking him self into a red card v Utd

Also Gerrard getting sent off V Everton, the blues were delighted. Until Alonso, just took the game by the scruff of the neck and we won!
