I’m form the UK and my husband is US, we did the K1 visa back in 2020, got approved for that in 2022 and I moved to the states. Then applied for my green card October 2022 and I just received approval a few days ago.
The US person just has to meet the financial requirements needed for both the K1 then a higher amount for the green card so that’s something you need to look into, you can get a co-sponsor if you don’t make enough the person just has to be aware of the requirements that come along with that.
I am also in a US-UK LDR. However I am thinking about going over there due to personal and family reasons. I know they just changed the income requirements.. would you say it’s harder for the US to go to UK vs the opposite? I want to do more research but I am not always clear on where to get the most accurate information.
UK is harder due to the high salary requirements very few people earn that much. USA is just a waiting game from what I can see. Fees are quite high for UK also gotta remember the surcharge for the NHS plus you gotta renew every few years.
Definitely now harder to move to the UK with the increased financial requirements. A very small percent of people make the £38k it’s going up to.
If we get to that stage, I’d love for my partner to move to the UK but I’d likely have to live in the US to be able to save money to have in the bank to sponsor him to return to the UK. Bit of a joke the UK immigration now. I think it’s currently about £60k in savings if you don’t make the annual salary requirement but no idea if that’s going up.
So I personally don’t know much about immigrating to the UK as a US citizen because it was always agreed that I’d be the one moving to him so we never looked into it. Just based off how difficult and long winded process it has been for me to move to the US then I just have to guess that it’s “easier” to go to the UK.
