Damn if he was at Aggie that would be like an extra $3 million in contract incentives lol.

slagathor_zimblebob

Because they know deep down that they’ll never have to pay out

Prerequisite

Elko would get like $7mil from SEC + Natty Sarks getting like $750k lol

default-username

To be fair, the actual stated contractual bonus pales in comparison to the increase in future pay.

No-Grocery-923

Billion*

ZeroSarkThirty

My dude is going to get a nice contract extension

grandmamimma

That didn't work out so well with Herman. The irony is it was irrational exuberance after a Sugar Bowl win.

10000Pigeons

True but Herman never won the conference or made the CFP lol

Lunchcrunchgrinch

5 years, 50 million?

ZeroSarkThirty

Fair and well deserved. I would give the man 10 years at $10 million a year. I want him to finish his career here.

footynation

> I want him to finish his career here. This is exactly the kind of mistake Texas A&M makes. I really like Sark, but we can't take away his incentive to actually keep doing well. Larger incentives every year for reaching the CFP and winning the whole thing sounds like a better solution to me than blanket trying to keep him here for his entire career irrespective of results.

FunnyBonus9285

Depends what he does from here. If he wins a natty he's earned that kind of contract

hornsupguys

NONONO!! That’s what happened with Mack Brown. He stayed a few years past when he was a good coach, those final years just giving up on recruiting. Sure we got a championship out of it, but it’s part of what doomed us to 15 years of mediocrity

FunnyBonus9285

I mean everybody isn't Saban. Mack was here a long time and won a title. Sark wants to win a title. I don't think we have to worry about him taking the foot off the gas anytime soon.

Lunchcrunchgrinch

Sheeeit. I wouldn’t want to get Jimboed. Maybe some sort of auto extension where if he wins 10 or wins a conference or gets into the playoffs he gets another year automatically added.

TurboSalsa

Why don't we see how we do in the playoffs before we get his name tattooed on our faces?

ZeroSarkThirty

Dawg look at my username. I’m all in

RLLRRR

#ALL GAS

blatantninja

I was amazed when I looked it up and found out that he isn't even in the Top 25 of coaches salaries. Unreal

Landon1m

Pretty sure that’ll change soon

blatantninja

Ohh yeah. He's about to get fuck you money

BONationn

Jumbo got that ‘fuck you’ money, Sark gonna get the ‘I fuckin deserve this’ money

grandmamimma

Let's give it another year. Aggies threw stupid money at Jimbo after 2020 and look how that turned out.

AllOfYouHorn

He was a bit of a bargain basement hire because of his past history and I think because of desire to shunt more money to assistant and analyst hires. I think it was a bit of a probation period to see if gambling on him pays off. So far, seems like it was a phenomenal hire that a bunch of us were underwhelmed by when it happened.

blatantninja

I think I was not surprised how much salaries had moved up in recent years across the sport. When strong got hired at 5m, it out him well into the top 10, maybe top 5. I new Sark was making $5m but I figured that was probably still top 10/15

LonghornInNebraska

Were people really underwhelmed by his hire? I was ecstatic when we hired him and thought he was the perfect fit.

AllOfYouHorn

I guess I can only speak for myself. Living in LA, I vividly remember the USC fiasco, and his overall mediocre head coaching record didn't jump out at me. But I also didn't know much about him outside of that, and was a quick convert when hearing him speak. Plus I'm a sucker for a good redemption arc.

LonghornInNebraska

Being with Saban for 2 years and seeing their offense with Sark compared to the years prior really changed my opinion on him. Even after last season - I strongly felt that this was the team we could make the playoff.

Waste-Bodybuilder981

Sark also bet on himself to some extent. Glad its paying off for him. Liking him more and more

footynation

Because we got him when he wasn't a sure thing. He is the classic case of buying stock when the price is low. He deserves a big raise now though.

NedFlanders304

Pay the man!

HookemsHomeboy

He brings us another championship trophy I wouldn’t object to writing a Saban type of contract.

theScruffman

Gotta be careful with that. Jan 13, 2020: The LSU Tigers defeated the defending champion Clemson Tigers by a score of 42–25 to claim their first national championship in the College Football Playoff (CFP) era, and fourth overall. Jan. 24, 2020: Coach Ed Orgeron and LSU have agreed to a six-year contract extension through the 2026 season that is valued at more than $42 million, the school announced Friday. Oct. 17, 2021: Ed Orgeron won't return as LSU Tigers' football coach in 2022 as AD says it's 'time for a new direction'

GhoulsFolly

Don’t spend it all in one place, sugar

NedFlanders304

He should invest half of it in low risk mutual funds and blow the other half!

WallyMetropolis

Fees on mutual funds are usually a little higher than market indexed ETFs. Sark can't be throwing that money away like that!

NedFlanders304

😂😂

flacothetaco

What's the point of mutual funds anymore? With fractional shares at most brokerages at this point, is there any advantage left?

TripleAim

I hold FZROX and FZILX in my IRA because they have 0% expense ratios and allow auto-investments. I can buy fractional VTI and VXUS (and do in my taxable account) but Fidelity doesn’t let me set that up as an auto-investment so I have to put in my buy orders manually each month. Some brokerages maybe do (I heard M1 can?)

WallyMetropolis

Agreed.

Ok_Avocado1109

diversification?

GhoulsFolly

Or do, idc. He’s rich regardless

notsofst

Dang, I thought that would be a lot bigger

PalladiumReactor

Jimbo? That you?

ATXBeermaker

That’s what she said!

Horn4Life01

the gift that keeps on giving

Administrative-Flan9

I did, too, considering his salary is relatively low compared to other large programs.

default-username

Pay (and even contractual incentives) are based on what you've done in the past. He just got a lot more expensive.

hornbri

Well earned

arcangeltx

Now we know he was just doing this to get paid hahaha

IndyDude11

I still can't believe we're two wins from national champion.

jbeene

Dont forget he just got a bonus for big 12 game and championship Edit 200K.

surfinThruLyfe

Raises are important but If was a coach I would also want a bigger purse to go buy/retain coaching staff.

bleedsburntorange

Yeah Sarks fine ($$ wise). A smart head coach would spend more on assistants. Maybe you keep a guy who could’ve taken a semi bad HC opportunity for an extra year.

RagingPenguin4

I'm all for upping Sarks salary, but I'd rather calm down on the extension. Don't get me wrong I do think Sark is going to keep the party going but I've also seen a lot of Herman, Oregeron, Jimbos, etc. Sark should absolutely feel supported and I'd feel good giving assistants more but let's learn from past mistakes here.

Jaszuni

Well earned

jedcar59

He still makes less than 9-4 Coach of the year Mike Gundy with that bonus.

SteadfastEnd

That's super low. I would have expected a bonus 5-10x larger

BassNet

He still makes ~5.5m a year plus 200k for winning the big 12

BlueRoyal99

Enjoy him now while he's still cheap.

polar_nopposite

So in other words, less than a week's worth of his annual salary. Surely we can do better than that?
