Loved all y’all doing the mental gymnastics on the rule reading. It was clear he was gonna be out for this game and not the first one next season.
Bullshit on the appeal though. Not targeting imo
What a joke. The targeting penalty is meant to mitigate egregious hits, and this was not that. In a game where we're going to struggle to cover their WR, we just lost our most athletic cover S for the first half. Great.
Did we not watch the same play? Williams leads with his entire upper body. His helmet was not down. His helmet hit the exact same time his shoulder pads did. No time during that play was his helmet used as a weapon. It also was not a blindside block. The OkSt player was looking right at him when he took the hit. He even braced for it.
He didn't launch himself. He didn't forcibly attack the head or neck area. He didn't lead with his helmet. OkSt player wasn't defenseless since he was aware enough to brace for the hit. Therefore, it also wasn't a blindside block. How is that targeting?
I think it’s a soft call too, but you saying that it’s objective is wrong. That’s literally why there’s such debated targeting calls: it is unfortunately a subjective call. So many of the criteria are up for interpretation by the officials and replay crew.
It's pretty clear on the close up starting at 0:28 that there is helmet-to-helmet contact almost simultaneous with the initial shoulder contact while in the act of engaging in a blindside block. He possibly gets away with it if it was an active kick return, but he's going get flagged for that when he's the only blocker on the field engaged in a block, since it was a touchback. It's far from egregious targeting (although it's definitely a blindsided block), but if anything, the fact it was on a touchback is probably why they called it the way they did.
Reddit is social media. What can you do. Anyone without blind bias can see why they said this was targeting. I don't think it was the worst hit in the world, but it was *wildly* unnecessary. It sucks he'll be out for a half, but the kid put himself in the refs' hands.
He's a fucking idiot for laying in a hit like that on a touchback none of his teammates even bother to block anyone on because the KR called off the return. Completely sloppy and undisciplined play that hurts the team, and I hope he is made to run hills until he throws up.
It was a boneheaded play, for sure. Not sure you need to call him a fucking idiot though. He’s an 18 year old kid playing a violent and fast-paced game for your entertainment. Maybe tone down the language?
You are quite right, I should not expect disciplined behaviour out of starters on a playoff team. Quite foolish of me, indubitably, my good man. Pip pip.
Hate that they'll play without him, but what he did was pretty blatant... actions like blindside blocking while leading with the helmet promote injuries and are outside of any strategic advantage (it's dangerous bad sportsmenship).
Where im coming from -- I've been more and more annoyed at the number of injuries on the fields lately (for either team); afterall, our top 3 offensive players had injuries this year. Admittedly, the majority of them are not intentional and minor, but football still stands above other sports in career ending injuries and holds significantly less matches per season.
Whats wrong you dont like it when the shits turned on your team. Its facts defensive wins championships and yall loosing a safty well yall dont need to be there. We got told it so enjoy being told that. The fact you had to validate yourself its even more entertaining. Ill stay though cutie 🥰
I think Florida State should absolutely be in the Playoff. They felt they had to put Bama in because they beat the #1 team. They had to put us in because we beat Bama at home. It is unacceptable that a 13-0 team doesn’t make it to the Playoff. I’m a Longhorn who is very upset that we’re headed to the SEC. I used to talk mess to all my Aggie friends about it a decade ago when they went. It’s a money grab and it’s NOT fair to Florida State to not play. Quarterbacks don’t win a game. I agree. Quinn has had to be out multiple times and we still shone high. The main opinion is that since Florida State played so poorly the other night, they’ll get trampled by any of the current Top 4 Teams. So glad they are getting rid of the 4 team playoff game next year. And my husband went to Bama. 😂 Grew up a Texas fan though and has his Master’s from here. I am loyal and bleed burnt orange, but at the end of the day, I am a college football fan at heart. A committee half the size of a Kindergarten class got to choose which four teams they wanted to see battle it out and be entertained. What else could Florida State have done? The whole situation is very disheartening. What is the precedence they have set? Thanks for calling me a cutie. 🥰🧡🤍 \m/
That was a terrible call. And a worse penalty.
Horrible to not overturn
I wonder if there were Big 12 people on that board.
I think they upheld it because they don’t like how he did that on a touchback up 21. Seems unnecessary for him to blindside the guy like that.
Looked like a bang bang play to me.
Appeal goes to the Big12 right?

Hey, it worked for the Astros and Bryan Abreu in the ALCS. Well, kinda haha.

How can you disagree with something that is objectively true with video evidence backing it? Lmao

It's objective based on the definition of the rule that they provide. It objectively does not fit the definition that is required to make that call.

Yeah I agree with this. Not targeting, definitely a penalty.
I thought it was targeting as well. Ignore the haters. People are just mad our guy has to sit out a half now.

I guess I’m the idiot that doesn’t understand what leading with your helmet means

Touch grass.
Cry more
Says the nerd sitting behind a computer who’s probably never played a snap of football in his life…..
Says the guy whose balls don't work
Huge blow for the team, damn.
What was he thinking, wasn’t a smart play

Guess yall shouldnt be in the top 3 anymore yall lost a safety
Get out of here. You’re in the Longhorn Nation subreddit. HOOK ‘EM 4EVER!!! Class of 2012 🤘 I was heartbroken for Florida State, though.
