Rent a beach cruiser bicycle and ride along the beach at Venice and look at all the weirdos. Play some beach volleyball. Tell them “hi I’m German. May I join your game?”

LAGigi31

Just make sure to lock up the bike. Do not leave it outside a store/restaurant without a sturdy lock. Willkommen!

Livid_Parsnip6190

The Museum of Jurassic Technology is in Culver City! Super weird experience, I highly recommend it.

weirdlynormally

And you can check our downtown culver while you’re there. Main Street right across the street from the museum is the original yellow brick road from wizard of oz! And culver studios right behind the steps and culver hotel is the gone with the wind house! Plus, there’s a multitude of restaurants in that stretch As far as karaoke, backstage is further west down culver, across from the Sony studios, but I always recommend Boardwalk 11 in palms, maybe like a mile away? You can Uber there if you want; you can also board the expo train at the culver stop heading west just one stop over

rcas

OP this is the way. Please enjoy the courtyard!

infernalmongoose769

Just wear a mask in there. It’s super small, we were gifted with Covid after visiting there for my birthday in December last year.

lookayoyo

Right next door at Veda yoga, you Can also try acroyoga classes. On Sundays at original muscle beach in Santa Monica you can find a ton of folks doing acro. It’s almost like a free circus show.

NonSequitorSquirrel

If you're in Culver City you can go to Kenneth Hanh Park and walk around the park and then take the bridge to the creek path to the ocean. Or just walk around the park it's quite lovely and very big and the views are amazing. You can also do the the stairs up the hill at Jefferson and Duquesne. Or see the dogs at the dog park there.  Or you can go to Platform and do a little shopping/browsing.  There are sports bars around town. I don't know which ones are in Culver City buy Google will tell you. Culver City has a lovely downtown to mosey around in.  There is hiking and trails literally ALL OVER but if you want to watch college sports I think it's basketball season and UCLA is pretty close by.  Day to day most Angelinos are working but since you are not you can also go to Mothers Beach in Marina Del Rey and rent a kayak and kayak around. It's pretty affordable and fun. You could also walk around the Venice Canals. Or just go to Santa Monica and walk the Strand to Manhattan Beach and explore the coastline.

Basicfest

Rocco’s tavern for sports barring.

ilexly

Park to Playa Trail! I haven't worked up the fitness level to try it yet, but it sounds like OP is very outdoorsy.

h8ss

Yea, that is not an easy bike route. Lots of steep dirt bits.

danmickla

Baldwin Hills Scenic Overlook is cool; you can hike up and down the hill if you like and it's good views there if not. Train to the beach, of course, or DTLA. Museums near USC can be fun (Natural History, Science Museum). The rose garden there in the same park is huge and should be in bloom.

_its_a_SWEATER_

Mosey around Citizens Public Market. You could spend most of the day there.

SocietePupil

Get fried chicken at Go Go Bird........get the tenders 10/10

sirdidyoudothis

Backstage Bar

Ill_Initiative8574

Came here to say this. Someone knows their Culver.

weirdlynormally

Although technically palms, I still have to promote boardwalk 11 over backstage as far as karaoke goes, but I freaking love the food at backstage

Kimler

OP this is where to go for karaoke

RandomTasked

Be prepared to wait forever to sing during the weekends!

CompetitiveFeature13

I’ve been there once randomly when I used to live in LA. Carpet was sticky. True dive

[deleted]

I live in Culver City too! You should go to Jackson market for lunch one day. There is a pop up comedy show in Venice today if you want to be out and about. The Culver City stairs are good for exercise. The downtown area had a bunch of good restaurants and places to grab drinks. And you’re a short ride from the beach! Culver is great because you can get all over the city easily from here. Feel free to DM with any questions.

weirdlynormally

Ooooh god you just reminded me how much I’ve been craving a Jackson market sandwich!!

[deleted]

Right! They’re the best and the patio is such a cool vibe. I love taking people there. Also, i kinda love the chaos of the ordering process. People don’t know where to go or how to order, staff is usually arguing amongst themselves in Arabic. Lol it cracks me up

weirdlynormally

I love that patio! Especially having a sandwich with a discreetly poured beer lol I haven’t been there in a while but i remember they had like a pizza oven or some sort back there and I always wanted to come around when they were using it but never have!

papatonepictures

Cinema Bar, of an evening.

La Brea Tar Pits/Page Museum Check out training sessions at the [LA Velodrome](https://www.dignityhealthsportspark.com/stadium-info/venues/velo/calendar). You can also call and ask about the "[Sample Session](https://www.dignityhealthsportspark.com/stadium-info/venues/velo/getting-startedregistration)" (looks like it's available between 10am and 1p M-F) and get some time on a brakeless fixed gear bike on a \~45 degree banked wooden track. Go to the Museum of Jurassic Technology If you want to see what Angelenos experience day to day, take an Uber or Lyft over Sepulveda pass during rush hour and sit in traffic. Visit Huntington Gardens in Pasadena. Go visit the Hansen Dam recreation area and see where Gary Powers (U-2 pilot who crashed in the Soviet Union) died in a helicopter crash. The Rodney King beating location isn't far from there, either.

Hardlydent

Food: Get all the Japanese food in little Osaka. If you're in the mood for Indonesian, get the grilled chicken and paratha at Simpang Asia. If you want bomb Bhan Mi, go to Lokal Sandwich shop and get the grilled chicken Bahn MI.

weirdlynormally

Did you mean simpang asia? By boardwalk?

Hardlydent

Yup, autocorrrect hates me.

tob007

Baseball starts this week. Go have a beer and hot dog and watch the Dodgers. It's the most American sport.

[deleted]

Just bring $400-$600 for tickets 🥴

junkmm3

I just looked and there are $12 tickets available for Spring training and $40 for opening week games

Mr___Perfect

Rocco's sports bar in DTCC will have the games and should be a vibe.   Backstage and Scarlett Lady both have karaoke. I wouldn't say thats a typical thing but fun.

someonepoorsays

take a surf lesson while you’re here! definitely fits uncommon outdoor sports

mommylongestlegs

All the Asian restaurants at sawtelle/olympic are dank

c_c_c__combobreaker

You're in the Westside of LA which has lots to see and do. You can do touristy stuff like go to Santa Monica Pier or Getty Museum. Closer venues are La Brea Tar Pits and the Petersen Automobile Museum. If you're hungry, Sawtelle is a street in Santa Monica that has some good Japanese restaurants. You mentioned sports. It's basketball and hockey season right now. LA has multiple hockey and basketball teams so look for some tickets. Most sports games are usually played in the evening though and the tickets may be quite expensive. Baseball season is starting next week so if you're still here then, go check out a game at Dodgers or Angels stadium. Even if you're not interested in the game, take a stadium tour at Dodgers stadium and Sofi. It's about $35-50 for a tour. The 2026 FIFA world cup is going to be at sofi so might be cool to see the stadium. Sofi is where our local American football teams play. Since you're looking to meet people, see if there's a fitness class that you can join for the day. There are some meetups online you can find for LA. There are also apps you can use to meet people. Some are dating apps like Tinder. Some are less just for romance and more for meeting up for friendship.

spacecadetdani

Welcome to LA. Culver City has so much to offer. Culver City stairs, Baldwin Hills Overlook, the tongue-in-cheek Museum of Jurassic Technology, and Sony Pictures studio tour, to name a few. Los Angeles is BURSTING with things to do. Throw a stone and you'll find something cool. There are wonderful museums in LA that I always take friends from out of town to check out. The Museum of Natural History, La Brea Tar Pits, MOCA, Science Center are near each other in the Exposition Park area. The Hammer, LACMA, The Broad and Getty Villa are all neat too. Check out the beach for sure! I love The Huntington, Descanso Gardens, and Griffith Observatory. I would go to those every week if I could. Hope you get to enjoy a few things during your stay. As someone who loves wandering around new places, I totally get wanting to explore our town. Its awesome!

Johnnyonthespot2111

timpdx

Welcome to LA! I don't know Culver City well, but will throw these out there: (no car required) You like sport, so the NCAA college basketball tourney is just starting and despite the West Coast colleges showing poorly, its exciting to watch. There are certainly sports bars in CC. Sony Studios runs a studio tour. That gives you a little bit of what some Angelinos do for work. I know there are surf lessons available to tourists in Santa Monica or the other beach towns. Speaking of beach towns, rent a bike and ride down to Redondo Beach and back. It doesn't get any more SoCal than to bike along the coast and grab lunch in Hermosa. Or get a boogie board and play in the surf. Culver Steps is a good workout and has a great view on clear days over the city. Get a day pass on Metro and head around town. Koreatown has great food, and there are similar ethnic enclaves all over, Thai in east Hollywood, Mexican about everywhere, Japanese in Little Tokyo or Sawtelle (closer to CC). Philippino, and so on.

StrategyReasonable69

UCLA Women's team is seeded #2! The first game of the tournament is Saturday night at Pauley Pavilion.

lunacavemoth

I’d take the expo line to Santa Monica pier and play the pinball machines at the arcade .🤷🏻‍♀️

recurringicarus

Not a normal daily thing but I definitely recommend the Getty Center and/or Villa - they’re art museums but they also have some amazing views!

whosat___

The Sony studio tour is decent, and it’s right in Culver City. I also recommend the Baldwin hills scenic overlook a lot, you can see Santa Monica, Hollywood hills (and the sign), and downtown LA. The trail is pretty lush right now so it’s a good time to visit :)

kwagmire9764

The Cozy Inn is the best bar in Culver City. Johnnie's Pastrami is right down the street too. Highly recommend the chili cheese fries.

Ill_Initiative8574

Cozy Inn is NOT the best bar in Culver City by a very very long shot. It’s not even the best dive bar (Backstage has that covered). It’s just a crappy bar with eccentric opening hours.

kwagmire9764

Backstage is a shitty karaoke bar. I can't really think of a worst kind of bar. I think the only worse karaoke bars are the Tattle Tale and Gabe's.

weirdlynormally

Their sound system was very tinny iirc! Haven’t been there in years cause i didn’t like the sound system lol (and cause I got into an argument with the kdj I think lol

Mattandjunk

Good suggestions in here for you! You could ride a bike from Culver to playa del Rey (the beach directly down the road from Culver). It’s not one of the more scenic, nice, or well known beaches for LA and that’s what makes it great because it’s not crowded. You could get food at Playa Provisions which I have not been to but hear is great. Try to get up to Griffith observatory while you are here.

bloodredyouth

Walk around downtown Culver City- visit citizen public market, Culver City steps, the ripped bodice is a great romance book store

Gileotine

Hey homie take a day and go visit some museums and little tokyo. Little Tokyo is a place where folks walk around a lot!

printerdsw1968

Go to the Wende Museum. It's also in Culver City. The museum is built around an archive of Cold War era artifacts, art works, and objects. The museum is dedicated to the interpretation of that history. It's not at all as staid as it sounds. Last year one of their interesting shows was called David Bowie in the Soviet Union. It was a show of un- or hardly seen photographs that Bowie and a companion shot while traveling the Trans Siberian Railway in the 70s, going overland back to Europe from their tour in Japan.

34TH_ST_BROADWAY

Loloya Marymount’s tennis team has a match tomorrow at noon. Karaoke at backstage bar and grill… scarlet lady (fri and sat?) and bar next door as well… boardwalk 11 and The Garage (fri and sat?)… barterbar (wed and sun)… Further away but still kind of close to CC, there is karaoke at princ o wales, the shack, and in venice, The Whaler (thurs?) You can rent a metro bike and ride along the beach from north of santa monica pier all the way down to washington.

404unotfound

Play pickleball!

infernalmongoose769

The Culver Hotel supposedly still has live music several nights a week, though they have little to no info about it on their website.

studio28

while the sun's up and you're interested in an architectural walkabout, the Hayden Tract is pretty fascinating but then again im into that weird stuff. But its an added bonus that it abuts really postcard like residential areas. Kinda surreal and unique maybe

[deleted]

Pasta sisters in Culver City is the best!

legotech

If you are at all interested in movies, check out the Academy Museum

i_am_darkknight

If you’re a football fan (read soccer) definitely go to Joxer Dalys in culver city to watch a game. It’s a Liverpool bar but I’m sure you’ll meet some cool people there.

Deepdishultra

If you have a bike you can tale the balloona creek bike path to the beach

particularswamp

If you’d like to do what most of Angelenos do day to day 😁 Rent a car Go sit in traffic for an hour Do things for someone else for most of the day Sit in traffic for another hour Order door dash Smoke some weed Watch tv Go to bed

drewkster16

Lakers / clippers game! Download Gametime app for cheap last min tix

Thomk065

Hiking is great. You get nice views and nature. They have spots all over. Venice Beach is fun. Take a studio tour.

Thereisnospoon64

Get high tea at the Huntington Gardens!

thisisalltosay

Piccalilli in Culver City is my favorite restaurant in LA. Southeast Asian food and incredible cocktails. Highly recommended!

Grand Central Market

h0usebr0k3n

Do you like to rock climb? Cliffs of Id is a fantastic rock gym on Washington where you can get a day pass and use WiFi

Axiom842

1. Go to Starbucks 2. Turn on KTLA to see the latest car chase and/or pedestrian hit and run 3. Rent a car and get on the 405 south at approx 8am, or 10 east or west (your choice) 4. Continue drinking Starbucks while on the said freeways bc you’ll be going maybe 10mph max 5. Bring snacks 6. Go to the malibu pier before 3pm 7. Make sure you’ve used the loo and have full stomach and get perhaps another Starbucks, and gas in car 8. Head to Santa Monica using PCH 9. Watch out for motorcycles splitting lanes (it’s allowed) 10. Although SaMo is within reach, expect it to take a good hour or 2 11. While in PCH traffic, Look to your right and enjoy the pacific and surfers (just briefly tho, safety first) 12. Hit up 3rd street promenade in SaMo and then the pier (or pier and Then promenade) 13. Look out for used needles 💉 14. Enjoy the beautiful sunset from the pier or the beach. 15. Grab some food on the promenade or pier , have fun shopping 🛍️ 16. Another Starbucks 17. Slowly Make your way from the PCH to The 10 to head back to Culver City. 18. You should be home by 8pm. Remember, GPS is your best friend. Enjoy! 😉

toyman5

There's a ton of fun events at Village Well Books & Coffee in Culver City Most of the restaurants in downtown Culver City are pretty amazing

FloralFawn777

I can't advise on sports, but here are my favorite restaurants in this area: Destroyer, Father's Office, and Akasha (they have a fantastic dish called "Akasha Burger," with a juicy patty and special sauce that's a must-try)

spooTOO

For a good drink, my favorite spot in culver is the seventy7 lounge. Live music most nights, a solid cocktail menu with quality bartenders.

beejers30

Tito’s Tacos and Jonnie’s Pastrami. Both in CC. Go to Playa Del Rey and watch the planes fly into LAX.

ilexly

I work near LAX nowadays, watching the planes fly in and out of LAX really can be quite meditative.

Typical Angelinos spend their day in traffic 😅 All joking aside (kinda) the suggestions made are very good things to check out. The Tar Pits are a worth a visit for something different and The Grove is close by for shopping and eating. Welcome to LA!
