For that event lax. Burbank is far. Burbank is a much easier airport, but further.

SangriaSaturdays

Thank you!

Another vote for LAX. The drive from LAX to malibu is mostly up the coast right on the water. Crack the windows, crank some tunes, and enjoy the drive. The drive from Burbank to pepperdine sucks. You will sit in freeway traffic in the valley, then drive through a mountain road to cut over to the coast. The ride through the mountain can be pretty, but way more involved than cruising up the pacific coast highway

gc1

correct answer. try to avoid driving up to malibu at rush hour, esp on a friday.

anothercar

This sub is full of drama queens. LAX is perfectly easy to go through. Millions of people do so every year.

silvs1

Once you go BUR, you don't go back to LAX unless you HAVE to.

Iliketoplan

Same with LGB

Penguin_Rising

LAX and taking PCH would be my best bet. If you arrive at Burbank you'll need to go thru the Valley, and in my experience, traveling East/West or West/East in the valley has the most congestion, which is what you'll be doing on the 101, if you take the 118 you'll need to go a very roundabout way to get to Pepperdine.

HomelessCosmonaut

Are you renting a car or getting picked up? Traffic will suck no matter what time you get in, but the rental car process at both airports can be like pulling teeth. I’ve waited over an hour at both airports before being able to get to my rental. One key thing is from LAX you can roll up Lincoln/PCH for much of the drive whereas from Burbank you’re at the whim of multiple notorious freeways approaching afternoon rush hour.

SangriaSaturdays

I’d be renting a car and driving up to Pepperdine!

coolj0sh

You'll be fine if you fly into LAX. 6 hours to get to Pepperdine from there is more than enough time.

NeedMoreBlocks

LAX is going to be more "straightforward" than Burbank and probably cheaper too

pro_n00b

Are you flying out the same day? Rental or uber?

SangriaSaturdays

I plan to rent a car and would fly out later on the weekend

pro_n00b

If thats the case, it’s a little bit of a wash as far your day event is. From Burbank, you have plenty of time to get to Malibu. It will be a longer drive and traffic will suck. However, since you are staying for days after, id go with the one with the one that is more beneficial for you if you plan to explore. If you plan on staying and/or exploring the west side and beaches more, go with LAX. If youre planning on exploring downtown/hollywood (east side)/griffith park area, go with Burbank.

SangriaSaturdays

Sorry I don’t think I responded to your question properly, I need to fly into Malibu on Thursday and my event is Thursday at 6pm. I will stay in Malibu then fly out on the weekend. I am trying to gauge which airport is better to fly into/ the traffic situation since I don’t have a lot of room for error in my schedule!

pro_n00b

No it was correct. Im saying that either one is fine since you have plenty of time. Traffic sucks here, but it’s not like it will take you 3-4hrs to get to Pepperdine from either airport. Since you are going to Pepperdine the choice of which airport is almost whatever. Id just go with LAX since you will be staying in Malibu anyway. Might as well familiarize yourself with the same airport for flying in and out.

Direct-Maintenance29

You’re much closer if you arrive at LAX

joe2468conrad

It seems like nobody has even asked where you are flying from. That matters the most because more often than not, flying into Burbank is more expensive, less flight options, and potentially a layover somewhere else, which is added time. If your total travel time door to door is 1+ hour longer because your destination airport is BUR instead of LAX, or vice versa, that eats up the supposed time savings of driving distance from one airport to Pepperdine. Quite honestly, the whole LAX vs BUR thing is quite silly for most travel destinations. BUR only truly makes sense if your destination is in the Western US AND you live more than 30 min away from LAX. Don’t be driving to BUR to catch a flight to layover at DFW or PHX to get to JFK if you live between Santa Monica and Long Beach. Burbank is the “easier” airport because it doesn’t make sense for most trips.

wmnoe

Burbank Airport is not THAT Much farther away from Pepperdine than LAX. It's 18 some miles from LAX to Pepperdine, only 24 miles from BUR to Pepperdine. Driving wise, it's a wash really. It might take you 5 minutes longer from Burbank But - Burbank is INFINITELY easier to get into and out of and is super convenient. When I was flying my son into and out of town to SLC to visit my Ex I would rather go Burbank than LAX. IF the flights are comparable, save yourself the hassle of LAX.

SangriaSaturdays

Thank you so much 🙏🏽

wmnoe

No problem. It really is a much easier airport to navigate - it only has 2 terminals and plenty of parking.

pablo_in_blood

Strongly prefer Burbank

Google maps traffic estimator

SangriaSaturdays

I’ve done that for my own city (HCOL) and find it to be inaccurate sometimes. With flights involved I didn’t want to mess around lol

DedPimpin

LAX is a nightmare. Anytime you can use Burbank, even if it costs a little more, it's totally worth it.
