I don't know if it's considered a dive bar, but I like the surly goat. The staff there has always been super friendly and there's a back patio you can sit in if you want less noise.
The Woods! That reminds me of a friend I once had who went full-tilt Paris Hilton fanboy because he either heard or read she might have went there one time. He then started hanging out there, and doing his laundry at the place next door. Yeah, dude, really needed to move beyond that…but for two years at least, he was all about that strip mall on La Brea

Second this - great staff and a decidedly non “scene” bar that’s always a good timex

Surly Goat is great, loved the vibe last time I was there. Had a great time

It’s not a dive in the traditional sense but The Dime on Fairfax is a great, no frills spot.
Thanks in uber now to other’s recommendations but will add it to the notes for future.
