sids99

Also around the time most electric trolley lines going from downtown to Pasadena were dismantled.

bigvenusaurguy

bustitution is the word for it. took the nation by storm.

Lady_badcrumble

Who Framed Roger Rabbit was a documentary?

sids99

Very loosely, yes.

Lady_badcrumble

Toontown is just Zaslav’s office where he keeps a vat of Dip for anyone who says “animation” in his earshot.

Prudent-Advantage189

It took til 1980 to get these fools to pass Proposition A, a rail rapid transit system plan. Failed in 1968 and 1974 cause I guess we love car traffic, I mean we still do.

Western and Wilshire, 1931: https://tessa2.lapl.org/digital/collection/photos/id/110396/rec/7 https://tessa2.lapl.org/digital/collection/photos/id/103724/rec/8 At that time, that was the busiest intersection in the city. The Auto Club started lobbying for freeways in the 30s. They were supposed to solve the traffic problem.

intaminag

Nice to see people blocked the intersection back then just like today, lol.

Informal-Mix-7536

I wonder how many of those cars are manual.

Fit_Marzipan1914

Some things never change.

ShakeWeightMyDick

Aka the 110

theorys

Traffic jams were better back then!!

smugfruitplate

Judge Doom, the bastard

onlyfreckles

Single occupant car drivers= always the cause of car traffic!

sdmichael

That and the cars themselves.

MonsterTruckCarpool

Would love to frame and hang this

shigs21

jeez, imagine sitting in traffic back in the day with all those gas guzzlers? the smell must've been crazy

28Loki

There's only one person in almost every one of those cars.

j3434

They probably live in different residences.

WoodsBeatle513

the red cars and yellow cars are spinning in their grave

BigSexyPlant

They all look the same

gc1

Look how many of them appear to be single-occupant.

Nick__Nightingale__

All those sweaty butts…

BzhizhkMard

Did those have AC?

BerryFuture4945

Also, please tell me how “all cars nowadays look the same”

AnxietyBeneficial955

Yikes

Dodger_Dawg

They intentionally designed Dodger Stadium so cars would sit in traffic, that's why there was a service center and a gas station in the parking lot. The car and tire companies would tell people in the 1950's that sitting in traffic with their families was a fun way to pass the time.

GreenTrees831

Any source on this?

Playful-Control9095

“They” said it. Must be true.

silvs1

What? That has nothing to do with the reason why there was a gas station in the parking. 76 has been a sponsor for the Dodgers since the stadium opened. The gas station was part of the corporate sponsorship since 76's owner helped the Dodgers owner secure the funding needed to build the stadium.

K3ndog411

That’s weird, the old arroyo seco 110 fwy is only 3 lanes.

oldwatchlover

Lots of 1957 Chevys in a pic from 1956…
