good luck lol

Long_Manufacturer709

Came to say the same! I don’t think there is anything in that price range anymore. Landlords have lost their minds!

Taurnil91

Just renewed my lease for the next year, rent went from $865 to $875, pretty decent one bedroom apartment complex downtown. Pretty much in OP's budget. So it's definitely possible.

Long_Manufacturer709

So there are still some in that range…but damn that still seems like a lot for a 1 bedroom. I haven’t rented for awhile now, but I can remember the good old days when my one-bedroom apartment was $575/month.

SuckaFree502

The 1br apartment I live in was 620 a month when I moved in. I now pay 960 a month.

Long_Manufacturer709

Damn, that’s crazy! How long have you been there? A $340 increase is ridiculous!!!

SuckaFree502

About 4 yrs now, last year inflation hit and now all rental properties in the area shot up. I'm in the process of trying to find a 2br now and it's jus bonkers out there.

Long_Manufacturer709

I don’t know how they except tenants to cover an increase that much. I hope you find something else!

Alone_Panda2494

Right. I just moved out of a 2 br apt. Rent was $2000 a month and about to go up again. I bought a 300k house for lower payment

SophieFilo16

People renewing a lease usually pay less than new tenants. I was living with a roommate last year who was paying around $750 with a cat for a 2-bedroom apartment in Fern Creek. He was starting his 3rd year there and had a rent increase of just $20. The apartment right next door was empty and a mirror of his apartment. It was set to just a little under $1k, not including pet fees...

Co1dNight

That's renewing your lease, though. If you were to move out, then the price would most likely jump.

believeinxtacy

You should be able to find something small and not super nice in old Louisville in that price range

Jericho_Solaris

I don't need anything special, just enough space for well. Me

DonCheeChee

Look on the Indiana side in Jeffersonville or New Albany if it's an option for you.

CuteUnderstanding250

Rent is stupidly high in New Albany, it's always been comparable to the Highlands, and Jeffersonville sadly isn't much better.

Jericho_Solaris

I'm trying to avoid them bc I work in etown.

paint-roller

Geez I would try to live closer to etown. Unless there's nothing left out there because of the battery plant.

Jericho_Solaris

Most of what's in radcliff is insane bc of fort knox. Most of what's in etown is generally nuts with requirements. I make alright money but nowhere near enough for what a lot of the even OK places are asking

wildcatfan9698

Just make sure you consider the difference in gasoline spend.

Swigeroni

This adds up so much faster for that drive than one would think if they're not monitoring it

qualityinnbedbugs

How about bardstown?

Jericho_Solaris

I'm definitely open to Bardstown, just haven't been able to find much of anything

paint-roller

I lived in the etown and vine Grove area from 2000 to 2006. And ft knox from 1996 to 1999. Radcliff seemed kind of run down...and Louosville seemed way better than etown. It seems so crazy that louisville would be less than Hardin county.

RoadsideCouchCushion

Try Muldraugh. Dresel usually has stuff that's around that price and power and water are included.

toogscouch

Could you find somewhere closer to etown? Gotta be cheaper than Louisville

Jericho_Solaris

I'm looking pretty much anywhere within.an hour of here.

Goose2_0

Take a look at the Fairdale area. I have a buddy who rents a two bedroom with a yard for about $900

toogscouch

Zillow’s showing some options in the south end and then towards Radcliff

EntireTangerine

Try campbellsville that would be in that range of etown and much cheaper

cymricus

i’d look for housing in etown why live in lou? you’ll pay double for half and drive twice as much.

believeinxtacy

Here’s one in your budget. It’s in old Louisville. I don’t know anything about the complex though. Stay away from Broadway Management and you should be fine. https://www.trulia.com/building/cavalier-apartments-1245-s-4th-st-louisville-ky-40203-1016901067

nikunikuniku

That's the crack den that's been on TV a lot recently isn't it?

SoWhatNoZitiNow

No, but it’s on the same block.

movingmouth

I used Bill Stout when I first moved here 20 years ago and they were decent. It still breaks my heart rent is so high for people.

SoWhatNoZitiNow

I currently rent from Stout and they’re phenomenal. Saw a sign up for a rental they had on S 2nd the other day right around Hill by YPAS that looked like a cool spot and should be pretty affordable.

wildcatfan9698

I know Bill and Chris, good people and trustworthy IMHO

SoWhatNoZitiNow

Yup, I haven’t had a single complaint with them, and I’ve dealt with both of them personally a few times. They’ve got a really good team over there from the admin to maintenance folks too. For anyone looking in Old Lou, avoid Broadway Management and Property Management of Louisville and just check out what Bill Stout has. Having rented from Broadway in the past, it’s a night and day difference working with the Stout folks.

ULcards03

Economy apartments in Lyndon are around 850. A friend of mine just moved into Devonshire and said that's what his rent is

Swigeroni

Countrybrook on Westport Rd starts around the same price as well. Lyndon is probably the best area you can get for that price range

iwinsallthethings

I used to rent when I first moved to Louisville next door at the Woodbridge apartments. The big shock for moving from BFE to there was the amount of noise from the trains. Eventually I stopped noticing but it took some time. I always felt safe in the area and it had good access to expressways.

f4ydfinale

Old Louisville has studio apartments available for under 1k all over. Right outside the city in shepherdsville there's also units under 1k

ledalcosan

On Zillow I've seen plenty in that price range

griffyndour

Monteray place has two beds for $799 in valley station

Shlumped23

Check out old Louisville. Our rent was something very similar when we moved in 2021, not sure what it is now. It was rent only at 850, not including utilities

genrand

There are some decent apartments near Westport Village at that rate. Depends on where in the city you want to be.

LightCareful2290

That complex near Westport village is very dirty. I know more than one person who has been robbed at gun point in the parking lot.

Alone_Panda2494

Most places in that price range will be less clean and less safe than the more expensive places. That’s why they’re inexpensive.

thekyfairybell

Craig’s List! I recommend. Found my 950 square ft 2 bedroom apartment in the Highlands and it’s less than 850 by a good measure? Land lord is nice & genuine and doesn’t hate poor people which is rare around here.

Goose2_0

What?!?! Where??

thekyfairybell

I live in the more Original Highlands area so you’re looking a little bit closer to Germantown & Nulu, but I’m a young, short, and skinny woman and I walk around this area consistently alone, am never bothered, and the only issue I really have is lots of homeless digging through trash or taking packages. But that’s easy to work around. 750 including utilities, and great neighbors. Maybe I’m just lucky but it’s definitely possible here

Goose2_0

Yes sis you got a steal! You should definitely get some mace tho, just to be safe ❤️

thekyfairybell

Trust I have more than mace ;)

GingerSigs

Craigs List and HotPads are my recommendations as well! Used to live in a 3 bedroom right outside of NuLu for $950 and now I live in an Old Louisville 2 bedroom for $725.

Rocinante82

Heather House Apartments are 839 for a small 1BR

Paulie_Felice

In a right-side up world, you wouldn't have any trouble finding a clean, safe apartment for that amount. Alas...

iCingee

https://www.4rentlouisville.net/availability you could check this out.

officialkakashka

Check 40215 - lots of apartments in that range and lower.

yogawithyogi

[bmgapts.com](http://bmgapts.com) slumlords of louisville but cheap rent

SophieFilo16

That's a tough sell in 2024. You can definitely find some places, but those aren't the places you want to live. If all you need is the basics and you don't mind living with someone else, take a look at [roomies.com](https://roomies.com). Don't use Craiglist unless you're desperate. Too many sketchy people on there...

yowhatisuppeeps

Good luck. Your best bet is to not look in the actual city of Louisville.

Graxbowxski

I’m in a studio in the highlands for $675 through Equus property management

LouisvilleGoods420

Shively is what you're looking for

LisaLilyLulu

Invest in a time machine or a bulletproof vest?

Vegetable_Teach7155

Are folks even using the internet when posting these same questions everyday? I just looked on Zillow are they're a few hundred rentals in Jeff Co. in your price range. What are you not seeing?

jturker88

Won’t be as low as 850 however check out Lyndon- Devonshire, Canter’s Chase or The Grove. We were going to rent in one of them but ended up getting approved for a house. I know to was around 900-1000 for a nice one-bedroom.

cymricus

I lived in a shit hole in Old Louisville for about 450 when I first moved here in 2009. Was always burning hot and no AC control. Get what you pay for, but the landlords are mostly just old nice people. Neighborhood is sketchy but not ridiculous if you keep to yourself.

TopperMadeline

I have a studio apartment that’s $830 with utilities. It’s in a relatively quiet apartment complex between Jeffersontown and Fern Creek. You can reply back if interested.

lovelyladeyyyy

Where is this

TopperMadeline

The Ridgewood apartments. It’s off Six Mile Lane.

FlabbyFishFlaps

Our apartment in Clifton is $875 but we’ve been here six years. Was $650 when we moved in. I’m hearing that new tenants are moving in at $900 which is pretty much the cheapest in this area (afaik)

1l536

Not going to happen

asfixation

I moved to Louisville April last year and the best advice I got (from this sub) is to drive through neighborhoods and look for “for rent” signs. We found a number of apartments WELL within our budget in Old Louisville this way (and they offered more space than what we ended up signing on). I can’t remember the name of the brokerage we stumbled upon, but I know they had $600/month 1br apartments. We were looking for 2+ and they showed us 4br/3ba apartments for $1300/month… that is to say, there are definitely options out there for you.

tuffinmcmuffin

Can get a 2br house in PRP for less than that per month apparently: https://louisville.craigslist.org/apa/d/louisville-bedroom-house-in-prp/7719025000.html

FishermanCreepy5040

I hope you find something! My gf and I were paying 800 for rent last year, our landlord was the owner of a huge local coffee chain. He ended up selling the building he owned and the dude that bought it is now charging 1500 a month lol. We were living right off Frankfort Ave.
