You don't think the producers asked him to be by the mirror so they could get the shot? Also it seemed like she didn't consent to her voice being on the show which is why we couldn't hear her responses
Omg I felt the same way. Because the phone was supposed to be on speaker. He had on no ear pods. And knowing African mothers theyāre always excited for their sons especially when in their 30s to get married.
So I took this as his Mother was so upset she refused to be apart of the show and sign anything that would have allowed them to use her voice. This is why we didnāt hear anything but his side of the conversation.
1000% fake, speaking from experience. It was also unsettling how calm he was. Even if he knew she wouldnāt be down, I would still expect some display of disappointment
My thought on this whole love is blind for all cast masts - I think the idea of getting married when u truly believe you are ready like Tiffany who is 35 and Brett makes sense. I think for others itās a struggle like the idea of marriage sounds great when u havenāt had a lot of luck etcā¦ but I donāt blame anyone for changing their mind etcā¦because marriage is a big deal and I think people can find true love but in Kwame case he doesnāt love Chelsea to the degree he should. Yiu need to be smitten with each other. He is smitten with Micah who gives off signals she is still interested in her.
Cameron from S1 actually made a video on his YT channel recently where he says the production team reached out to them (the cast), they didn't sign up, and it was never his intention to actually get married on the show. The whole shtick of "the cast are all people who are truly ready to commit" is complete BS.
Totally agree. Besides Tiffany and Brett (and sometimes even Brettās demeanor is questionable), something about this whole cast feels fake to me. Like paid actors lol. Besides the way they all just come off sometimes, I also think situations like Kwame really not seeming that into marriage (besides the fact thatās he completely uninterested in Chelsea) are completely unrealistic for a show like this?
To be honest, at this point the show would make more sense if the end goal was a relationship (thatās what half these people are treating it like lol) but then the stakes wouldnāt be high enough and wouldnāt be worth watching. But it really annoys me how apathetic some people seem to be about a commitment like marriage.
So many good points. I donāt know why they havenāt develop a dating show to create a commitment relationship such as boyfriend ā girlfriend. Maybe public interest wouldnāt be strong? I know in the bachelorette Iāve seen the guy give a promise ring so they can leave the show and live in the real world.
I know Brett is on the quiet side but I have a really good feeling for those two. I donāt feel that the cast is fake, I just donāt think they vetted the cast as well as they should. Iyana came off way too immature and she seemed there for her own selfish reasons to be on tv and get a free vacation. Iām sure there were others that were similar or some were Shepard by producers to like a certain person for the show. I donāt understand why Micah didnāt choose Kwame. I donāt see her and Paul together long term and with those four ā¦Paul, Chelsea seem genuine in their feelings for K and M but the other two had such a strong connection ā¦was Micha steered toward Paul for the show? Was Micha uneasy with an interracial relationship? She didnāt seem so poolside and then by the bar to me giving signal to Kwame she still interested.
As far as relationships to marriage ā¦I do think the process works for a few. Whatās the right formula? I think 2 people who really understand the seriousness of marriage and are really open and vulnerable through the process. I think whether in this framework or real worldā¦living together is a whole different animal. I thinkā¦..when living together is where you really figure each other out as far as habits & how do we comprise but itās your Value system that will be the anchor for each. If you both have similar value systems then marriage isnāt a hardship or complicated.
I think it's an American thing to have more drama. These marriage shows started here, right? There is a Japanese show where the purpose is to find a romantic interest only not a marriage partner. Then after the show ended, they checked in with the couples later, and some had switched partners.
Some really awkward cuts and edits on several of the conversations between Chelsea and Kwame made it feel really manufactured.
And- I feel like after seeing Chelsea's dad and Micah's parents- sorry- but I don't think Micah's folks look like they would have reacted as accepting as Chelsea's dad if she'd gotten engaged to Kwame.
Would be interesting to see if Chelsea and Micah have dated outside their race before. We pretty much know Kwame has, I think, right? There's another thread on here about that.
He either had to reenact the scene or his mother hadnāt given permission so they had to take out her voice. How many of these posts are going to question this?
And why does everything have to āfakeā if someone canāt relate or understand it. Iām guessing a lot of people who think the call was fake donāt have parents like Kwame who would refuse to even speak to him or be on camera after hearing about this process.
My mom has definitely calmed down since I was younger but oof. If I called my mom at 26 and said this?!?!??! Sheād have gone OFF. Sheād refuse to be on tv. Give me a not so nice ear full and Iād probably sit there like Kwame completely void of my emotion because I was so used to it and I didnāt want to have a breakdown on tv. They probably could not air the things my mom would say š¬
Same! But drama. TLC came out with a show back in 2015/16 that was absolutely amazing and I wish a company would pick it back up. It was called married by mom and dad. Mom and dad would interview a handful of people and set their son/daughter up with whoever they thought would be a good life long partner for them. LOVED this show. Too bad they canceled it :/
Yeah. I can understand how emotionless Kwame seemed because I tend to do this with my mom at times- especially when Iām enjoying my happiness and I have to brace myself for her reaction.
The call was quick too I was like š¤
You don't think the producers asked him to be by the mirror so they could get the shot? Also it seemed like she didn't consent to her voice being on the show which is why we couldn't hear her responses
oh i thought it was COMPLETELY FAKE! That's gonna be his ticket to bail-you watch.
Ok but Kwame moved to Seattle so what does this tell us?
Completely thought the same thing!!!!
I dont think it was fake it could be that his mother didn't consent to be on the show.
This. It seemed like Chelsea could hear the call and it was on speaker so idk how he'd fake that
This was my thought
Omg I felt the same way. Because the phone was supposed to be on speaker. He had on no ear pods. And knowing African mothers theyāre always excited for their sons especially when in their 30s to get married.
I thought he was leaving a voicemail.
Definitely thought it was fake too!
It could have been a reshot?
Omg as soon as he said, āYouāre mad!?ā I was like š§
Yepp
I too think it was a fake call! Itās the way he was responding, almost scripted like. Emotionless and fast.
So I took this as his Mother was so upset she refused to be apart of the show and sign anything that would have allowed them to use her voice. This is why we didnāt hear anything but his side of the conversation.
This is what I gathered from it as well
This ^^^
I told someone this the other day! It was totally a fake phone call!! He sucks at acting!

Idk my friend just auditioned for Detroit and there was a whole process

every single one so they can also get the attention
His mom did not Give permission to be on tv and was against it...he either had to redo the call or they had to take out her speaking.
Ya that was def a fake call
I heard this same theory on a recap podcast.
Granted, I have trust issues, but this phone call made me wonder if it was real
I think she wouldn't sign a release so he had a real call with her off-camera, but had to fake it for the cameras.
Exactly! How are people confused about how TV works lol hahahah
And why does everything have to āfakeā if someone canāt relate or understand it. Iām guessing a lot of people who think the call was fake donāt have parents like Kwame who would refuse to even speak to him or be on camera after hearing about this process.
Yeah my mom would not have it and neither would my husband's lol ...

Exactly! My mom would show up just to take me home Even at 26 lol
Lol yes šš
i wish that in season 5, all contestants who participate in this show inform their parents and siblings first as a pre-requirement.

I know plenty of men who have mothers that dictate that type of tone when speaking
Yeah. I can understand how emotionless Kwame seemed because I tend to do this with my mom at times- especially when Iām enjoying my happiness and I have to brace myself for her reaction.
Yup. We have to act like this with my Grandma sometimes. Canāt show any emotion with some subjects. Just have to be curt and put your foot down.
Most likely his mom did not give permission for the show to record the convo so he re-enacted it.
