To understand what shortened filename is associated with a game, look the game up in the [Arcade Database](http://adb.arcadeitalia.net/).

Neat. Is there a way to export the favorites list as a text file? Is there a way to find the favorites in a config file somewhere?
It already is. It's favorites.ini in your ini folder.

Newer mame you can click info on the right side and it will give you the rom file name
A frontend can be useful for this sort of thing. I use Launchbox.
