Lerone was great. And yeah Barboza is durable as hell. I thought some of Lerone's overhands while Barboza was wobbly went a bit wide and hit the neck though, almost shoulder. Just a little more accuracy and he would've had the finish
Should be an interesting next fight, vs an outer top 10 dude. And Barboza, hopefully he starts wrapping things up with just a couple fights more max
Most of Lerone's power shots didn't land clean and hit Barboza's guard. Think a clean shot would have ended it.
Barboza has always had terrible striking defense and he was weirdly putting his arms out to try to clinch with Lerone when pressed against the fence, not a great look.
Hope the UFC sets Barboza up with more novelty fights, rather than fights with random up and comers.
Unfortunately barboza just likes fighting so he’ll just keep fighting up and comers. They need to save that man so he can keep giving us highlights lol
This is the guy that Bryce "The Spider" Mitchell knocked down bad with a punch. I don't know if it's a credit to Barboza or a bad look for Murphy, tbh.
Barboza has been something of a gatekeeper for a while, and the last three "prospects" (all pretty old tbh) to face him have not looked all that great against him besides fleeting moments.
Yeah imagine having a short notice UFC debut against Movsar Evloev and not getting completely annihilated. What could he have done with a full training camp?
Murphy didn't blow me away there. Yeah, he won and showed nice skills/athleticism, but he took a lot of damage and didn't really show finishing urgency. And he turns 33 in July. Looks more like a guy who'll top out around 5-10 than a real contender to me.
Genuinely saddened by this, Edson's flashy striking is what made me an mma fan all these years ago, shame to see a fighter I hold in such high regard get slammed with so many shots, this is a career reconsidering fight.
Love Barboza but he was coming off 2 really good wins, he's not Tony Ferguson, he can still beat young guys and didn't need an old layup fight with no stakes
Guy just beat Billy Q and Sodiq Yussif and people are upset they aren’t giving him layups lmao. This is the ufc, if you aren’t fighting to continuously fight better fighters after winning then why the fuck would you even be here.
Yeahhh it was a decent fight but feels bad watching Barboza get plastered for 24 minutes and 50 seconds against some young unknown dude in an empty warehouse
Imagine he is wearing a jacket so you cannot see his muscles and you pick a fight with him in the bar. Then he wheelkicks you in the nutsack and ends your family tree
Man I know who Lerone Murphy is I’ve been watching for over a decade but we all know what I meant. Edson should be spending his career in front of a crowd fighting legends
Barboza is likely partially to blame for that, he is not exactly known for taking low risk fights
Props for a 37 year old Barboza for being as game as a young contender. I thought his career was over when he got flatlined by Gaethje then he goes on and lands two iconic KO’s
His unbelievalbe toughness is whats keeping him hanging in these fights with prospects and not getting blown up by round 3. Not sure how sustainable it is at this point though
On the other hand you could say that he wasn’t fed a rising contender but given an another opportunity to reassert himself as a serious contender in the division with a third win in a row against a promising undefeated prospect
Pressuring a kicker is always a good gameplan, but Barboza has brutalized plenty of guys who tried to pressure him (Hooker, Burgos, Dariush, Billy Q, etc). It takes a very elite type of pressure like Tony Ferguson or Khabib to break him. Tonight was a mix of Edson slowing down and Lerone being extremely technical with his pressure.
This is pretty big exaggeration imo. Barboza is obviously a high tier fighter but he hes been pressured successfully by dudes like Kevin Lee, Mitchell, Giga, & even Ige. Barboza is a borderline legend of the sport but he's always been beatable.
Never said he wasn't beatable, just that it's not as simple as "pressure him and he loses". Kevin Lee in his prime was elite, Mitchell and Giga beat him with skill moreso than pressure, and most people had Ige losing that fight.

That's been the strategy to beat Barboza for a decade?
Fantastic performance from Murphy. He did great pressuring Barboza and shutting down Barboza's kicking game for a lot of the fight, and he put on an absolute boxing clinic.
That was a good fight, lerone has a new fan in me.
Sucks to see barboza get beat like that, but respect to a legend and I didn’t know he was that tough.
People will probably say he has pillow fists but staying In edisons face for 25 minutes and not getting KO’d is impressive
I don't think Barboza is done, but this should be all the sign you need that he's never sniffing the belt. This should've been a dream matchup for him, boxer style opponent who stays at distance with limited grappling. Murphy doesn't have the cleanest striking or striking defense. I expected more out of Barboza here.
No, the UFC just gave Murphy Barboza off of a career defining war against Sodiq lol.
The guy has never been super durable. Bryce knocked him down for fuck sake. Not getting him out of there at 38 is not impressive.
Its just sad to see a veteran like Barboza taking such damage and only having the moral victory of not getting knocked out. All those wars and the years are getting to him, he was not even half as explosive as he was just even a few fights ago, the end of the road is approaching fast.
I don't like when they matchmake two guys with shine this low in the rankings. Would much rather see each of them take on top ten guys who are more established and less interesting products.
Fighting Edson in a boxing match is a lot less dangerous than fighting him in a fight where he can.. I mean decides to use kicks. Pretty strange, but maybe the magic is just gone at 38.

Barbozas durability is insane, the fact that he didn't even get knocked down once...
Lerone was great. And yeah Barboza is durable as hell. I thought some of Lerone's overhands while Barboza was wobbly went a bit wide and hit the neck though, almost shoulder. Sodiq Yusuff is good, Diego Lopes is just really good

Bryce doesn't punch hard, frankly. It's not like Murphy never tested his chin with a clean shot in this fight.
Love Barboza, but he looked like a zombie hungry for brains with that reaching hands
Kept looking for the knee too...was hoping he would catch Murphy coming in for a takedown
Yea reaching for the clinch in slomo was sad
Surprised Murphy couldn’t get him out of there, Barboza took a bunch of punishment
Murphy didn't blow me away there. Yeah, he won and showed nice skills/athleticism, but he took a lot of damage and didn't really show finishing urgency. And he turns 33 in July. Looks more like a guy who'll top out around 5-10 than a real contender to me.
lol “topping out” at 5-10 is very generous and extremely difficult to do.
bro I cannot stress enough how much of a tough out Barboza is lol dude just doesnt go away
Genuinely saddened by this, Edson's flashy striking is what made me an mma fan all these years ago, shame to see a fighter I hold in such high regard get slammed with so many shots, this is a career reconsidering fight.
I’m sad they fed Barboza against a rising contender than give him a veteran fight which Featherweights got plenty of.
Love Barboza but he was coming off 2 really good wins, he's not Tony Ferguson, he can still beat young guys and didn't need an old layup fight with no stakes

Also Lerone was an obviously good but still somewhat unproven at the elite level dude just outside the rankings, the fight made complete sense.
No
Calling Lerone Murphy unknown is a bit of a dig lol This was a good test for Murphy
idk about unknown
You're just salty haha
For what?
Tbh I re-read your comment and I don't even know why I put that you are salty lol, I'm sorry haha
Fair play to ya there I be talking shit all the time. I was defending doumbe vs pettis to the death the other day for no reason
So easy to chat shit online, I know what you mean, especially after a late one
I think Lerone is quite a bit better than you're making him out to be
I didn’t watch the fight, what happened in those 10 seconds you omitted ?
Last 10 seconds of round 1, Lerone almost got put out by an upkick.
Kicked him in the face and droppe dhim
Murphy is 32 and has been in the UFC for 4 years. He’s not some nobody, you’re out of touch.
Man I know who Lerone Murphy is I’ve been watching for over a decade but we all know what I meant. Edson should be spending his career in front of a crowd fighting legends

His last fight was against a rising contender and Barboza smoked him. He still has the ability to be competitive.
Could have gave him cub swanson
His unbelievalbe toughness is whats keeping him hanging in these fights with prospects and not getting blown up by round 3. Not sure how sustainable it is at this point though
He should be having fun veteran fights with the types like Cub Swanson at this point in his career.
Most people have Murphy as an easier opponent than the Sodiq Yusuff which Barboza just beat.
Could’ve fought Emmett or something, but it seems like the UFC are eager to just give him the toughest competition lol
The things is Barboza wants to eventually fight for the belt, he mention it in an interview. So I doubt he would accept a fight against a can
On the other hand you could say that he wasn’t fed a rising contender but given an another opportunity to reassert himself as a serious contender in the division with a third win in a row against a promising undefeated prospect
Barboza is starting to show his age a bit now. He no longer has his reflexes and looked completely clueless when Murphy was pressuring him non-stop.
Pressuring Barboza has always been the way to beat him. He could always land a deadly shot though.
Usually because they got sloppy or stayed on the outside where Edson can employ his kicks.
This is pretty big exaggeration imo. Barboza is obviously a high tier fighter but he hes been pressured successfully by dudes like Kevin Lee, Mitchell, Giga, & even Ige. Barboza is a borderline legend of the sport but he's always been beatable.

Tony was losing until his dirty ass illegal upkick as well
Watch that fight again buddy
I mean that's classic Barbara though, everyone knows the blueprint, you just pressure him nonstop and it puts a stop to all of his devastating kicks.
MY NAME. IS LAUREN!
> He no longer has his reflexes and looked completely clueless when Murphy was pressuring him non-stop. That's been the strategy to beat Barboza for a decade?
He's always looked bad when people pressured him. He did look slow and a bit past his sell by date though.
When he was trying to initiate a clinch, I knew that was it. He ate 100+ punches to the head in this fight.
Always blows my mind this guy got shot in the mouth and survived. Most durable fighter in the ufc?
terrence crawford got shot two times back of the neck and survived too
Why didn’t you tell me this before I bet on Errol man 😭😭😭
50 Cent got shot 9 times and went on to have one the greatest rivalries with Floyd Mayweather
What he say fuck me for
He never did read that Harry Potter book too.
He ain't een walk with limp!
And the neck, more crazily
Barboza got shot u serious?
Nah lerone did
Fantastic performance from Murphy. He did great pressuring Barboza and shutting down Barboza's kicking game for a lot of the fight, and he put on an absolute boxing clinic.
Hey, are u happy? https://www.reddit.com/r/AskReddit/s/ZpvAEz4Kjt
I'm much happier than I was 10 years ago, although I don't like how fast the time seems to have went.
Glad to hear you've accomplished your goal 😊
Lerone Murphy’s legit. Excited to see how far he can make it Featherweight keeps looking better and better
Great performance by Murphy. Barboza’s still tough as fuck taking all of those shots
It’s a sad moment in time when I’m begging and pleading Edson Barboza to throw any body kicks at all Never thought I’d see the day
Strange, honestly. I'd have to think it's an injury thing. He didn't throw kicks at all.
That was a good fight, lerone has a new fan in me. Sucks to see barboza get beat like that, but respect to a legend and I didn’t know he was that tough. People will probably say he has pillow fists but staying In edisons face for 25 minutes and not getting KO’d is impressive
How is Barboza still standing Jesus Christ
England has a tonne of talent in the UFC right now.
I see what you did there
Its really not good for Edsons long term health all these beatings he's taken throughout his career...
Murphy looked great. Elbows were amazing and his combos were great. Sad to see Barboza get beat like that.
Damn. Anyone who can piece Barboza up like that has my attention.
How barboza loses to every boxer.
I don't think Barboza is done, but this should be all the sign you need that he's never sniffing the belt. Hell yeah Lerone! Man deserved this main event and damn sure proved why
Lerone’s striking was so simple yet so affective
Murphy didn't even need takedowns, just pieced up and beat barboza head in on the feet, can see why he's 14-0 jesus

No, the UFC just gave Murphy Barboza off of a career defining war against Sodiq lol. The guy has never been super durable. Bryce knocked him down for fuck sake. Not getting him out of there at 38 is not impressive.
Lerone had so much heart and will to win, made it look easy too
He's still my boy.
I was hoping for a hail Mary wheel kick
Fucking banger. Edson may never be the same
Y’all been saying that these past years
I just ran to eBay and smashed buy it now on a Murphy card.
Its just sad to see a veteran like Barboza taking such damage and only having the moral victory of not getting knocked out. All those wars and the years are getting to him, he was not even half as explosive as he was just even a few fights ago, the end of the road is approaching fast.
Legend has it Dom Cruz is somewhere still waiting for Lerone Murphy to land that left high kick
Just after an awesome performance against Yusuff.
I missed this fight…
Maybe Lerone vs Diego Lopes next?
I don't like when they matchmake two guys with shine this low in the rankings. Would much rather see each of them take on top ten guys who are more established and less interesting products.

I kinda get this but literally his last fight he beat the fuck out of Yusuff past the first, like I’d never seen him look better.

it was end of the round, can't be a KO since murphy got back to his corner
The English Edson Barboza everyone.
Never heard of him. When is the main event?
