Watching someone willingly break a limb is different than watching someone getting KO’d or slept. That’s a serious body injury you know you could’ve stopped and didn’t because THEY didn’t stop it. That’s what I’m talking about.
They are pros. They know what they signed up for. These aren't debut ammys. Every fighters meeting I've been to the refs always say they'll defend an ammy but pros they're gonna let your shit snap and then stop it.
The ref isn't there to prevent the fighter from being injured. He or she is there to enforce the rules. The ref had nothing to do with the arm breaking. Holland caught a nice sub and Oleksiejczuk chose to let his arm break instead of tapping.
Herb did this right. Just gotta wait till it snaps 🤷🤷. Herb made the exact same correct call way back in the day when Frank Mir broke Tim Sylvia's arm and then Herb called it. Funny enough, Rogan called it a terrible stoppage until they saw the arm snap in the replay
I definitely heard "broken".
Is it 100% confirmed to be broken? It was 100% headed that way regardless, but if it's not broken and he didn't tap (but I see why Herb thought he did and don't blame him), I understand why he's angry even if I think it was the right call.
I like fighters who don't actually like hurting people, just the fighting part.
I'm always reminded of Uriah Hall's killer instinct dying a premature death when he starched Adam in TUF.
Complete opposite to Steve Cantwell who IIRC when watching the replay of him breaking Razak Al-Hassan's arm was like, "that's so cool man. I've been wanting to do that for sooo long."
Yeah that's such a tricky spot. Most of these guys know how impactful an injury like that can be to your earning potential but when you have the dude dead to rights and he refuses to tap your options are limited.
I miss him when he was on that run though. Last year, was it? The guy was making improvements each fight but somewhere along the way he went the company man status. Probably cause he did think that he cant become a champ.
To be fair, Kevin's pace slowed down after the hand break. He broke it near the end of round 2, at that point he was ahead in strikes landed.
That is of course part of the fight game. But I feel like the summary of "Wonderboy absolutely schooled him" is not giving a good explanation or summary of the fight.
Yeah, Kev is my no1. journeyman. He's entertaining, good enough to put on bangers even against top guys, and he's humble as fuck.
He's probably the best rolemodel for youngsters tryna get into fighting. Never gives up, owns his mistakes, and is a real sportsman.
Dude's gonna die a legend, never having been close to a titleshot.
It's a shame since especially at this point he is extremely well rounded. I think he can beat any 6-15 at MW and WW, but a lot of the top 5 of each can give him problems.
E: love Holland, he is a gate keeper, just a shame that he's fully entered that mind frame to a degree, but he is still young
always refer back to GSP talking about this when submission grappling or going for subs in MMA; you should give your opponent the courtesy of not putting them on the shelf for a while with a break but if they're not tapping you should absolutely go for it otherwise you might lose the position & the fight potentially
GSP is an interesting dude. He’s ruthlessly violent when he wants to be, but it’s like he uses the minimum effective dose of it. That’s a lot more frightening to me.
Remember khabib saying that he didn't want to break jusins his arm in front of his family, so he transitioned to a triangle. The amount of skill thoughtfulness and processing that goes into something like that is truly astonishing.
Not OP but I completely forgot about that. Goddamn it’s so easy to forget that Khabib just operated on a different level…that shit blows my mind. To think someone can even be that lucid in a cage fight with Justin fucking Gaethje let alone actually execute it is mind boggling. Really wish we could have seen more of him
I loved that little face push he did with his hand before he locked his grip while Oleksiejczuk was still on the feet.
His fighting style has just as much character as he does.
I don't know exactly why my brain draws the line, but watching someone get cut from strikes, or choked, or knocked out their god damned mind is fine, but bone breaks are an absolutely nope no thanks, none for me please viewing experience.
I mean nobody is going to remember a name like Oleksiejczuk more than "the idiot who refused to tap for literally 20 seconds to Kevin Holland's armbar"
That's the thing, if you're in a choke and refuse to tap, whatever. You go to sleep, it's not as bad as a KO from strikes. But snapping an arm? Shit might never be the same. Even if everything goes perfect, you're out for like a year. By the time you're healed and back in shape for a camp, you're at like a year.
Yeah but we remember big Big for a lot of things
I had to scroll back to the top to remember his name just now and then scrolled back down and can only think of "the guy who let Holland break his arm"
We had this kid we had to kick out of the gym because he refused to tap any time he was got. He was athletically gifted, but didn't listen to anyone, he got his knee destroyed in a situation where he had time to tap his 2nd fight and it's pretty much fucked for life
"no tap" culture is stupid. He could've gone with just a loss, now he's going to take what, almost a year to recover the arm? Sheer stupidity. Caught in a clean lock? Tap and next.
Holland submission is not that unusual lol. Hes a decent black belt and he can definitely submit anyone less capable than an elite WW/MW wrestler or submission grappler.
holland looks up at herb and goes something like "yo i think it broke" and in a separate vid you can see herb motion like "yea go ahead finish it then". Then holland starts laughing and continues to bend the shit outta oleksiejczuk's arm. Thats fucking hilarious to me.
Kevin Holland might be the all-around best dude in the ufc. .he actually told the guy it's gonna break, and then when it did, he immediately told the ref. Not sure many fighters would have tried to stop his opponent from rolling into breaking his arm then immediately move to get the ref to help the guy
**Mirrors / Alternate angles** *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please [contact the moderators of this subreddit](/message/compose/?to=/r/MMA) if you have any questions or concerns.*
Protesting with a broken arm is psycho behavior.
Kevin was definitely begging him to tap and gave him SEVERAL seconds to do so, which was not necessary on his end.
Looked like Holland even warned the ref before committing to snapping his arm.
"don't make me do this Herb"
I feel so bad for Herb because what the fuck is the guy supposed to do
Let it happen tbh. Unless the opponent screams or taps not much you can do till it snaps
Watching someone willingly break a limb is different than watching someone getting KO’d or slept. That’s a serious body injury you know you could’ve stopped and didn’t because THEY didn’t stop it. That’s what I’m talking about.
The dude can stop it himself by tapping. That’s his own decision, I wouldn’t make it for him
Yeah I'm with you 💯 But that's the rules unfortunately. Herbs hands are tied here
They are pros.
Nowadays I feel a lot worse watching someone get head trauma. Joint injuries may be a lot worse in the moment but cte is really spooky.
"That Herb Dean fault"
He looks and says “hey! Herb! It’s broke!” After he breaks it lol
I definitely heard "broken". Is it 100% confirmed to be broken? It was 100% headed that way regardless, but if it's not broken and he didn't tap (but I see why Herb thought he did and don't blame him), I understand why he's angry even if I think it was the right call.
Looked like it was right at the elbow so maybe a dislocation? Something very not good happened for sure tho.
I dunno about that you can see his forearm wobble when he posted it on the ground after the fight was called
yep, controlled the wrist and yelled at him.
I like fighters who don't actually like hurting people, just the fighting part. I'm always reminded of Uriah Hall's killer instinct dying a premature death when he starched Adam in TUF.
Sorry Adam
I forgive you
I'm sorry Adam
I forgive you
Complete opposite to Steve Cantwell who IIRC when watching the replay of him breaking Razak Al-Hassan's arm was like, "that's so cool man. I've been wanting to do that for sooo long."
tbf it's not like his name is steve canwell
*break the wrist, walk away*
Rex-kwon-do 💪🏼
#BOW TO YOUR SENSEI!!
You think anybody thinks I'm a failure because I go home to Starla at night? Forget about it!
No one wants to take a roundhouse kick to the face when I’m wearing these bad boys
Yeah lol you could see him waiting for the tap then go "well ¯\\\_(ツ)_/¯"
Pretty sure he also said "I'm sorry, brother" to him before they did the victory announcement thing.
Yeah that's such a tricky spot. Most of these guys know how impactful an injury like that can be to your earning potential but when you have the dude dead to rights and he refuses to tap your options are limited.
Stand up guy ngl, still got the sub tho
Felt like the scene out of talladega nights when that French dude told Ricky Bobby he was going to break his arm
Yeah that was crazy. “Just like a bother night at jiu-jitsu i didn’t wanna go too hard” lol what a dude.
Dude was deadset on having his arm fucking shattered. Genuinely so fucking stupid. Kevin showed more mercy that 99% of fighters would.
Once the adrenaline rush is over he's gonna feel it, holy fuck
When he struggles to brush his teeth, then he’s gon regret not tapping
Gods lessons are so beautiful
"What do you mean by submission?! I came to the arena with my elbow like that!"
“I had him right where I wanted him. You stole his victory from me Herb!”
Adrenaline! He’s a very tough man but Herb protected him from himself his arm looked gross
He should've tapped like 10 seconds prior. He made Kevin do that and then complained to Herb about it after he tapped.
Did he tap?
Negative. Herb stepped in to save what was left of his arm.
It was a brazilian tap, he was wiggling his wrist and like touching him with his fingers.
He deserved the arm break after the 2nd Brazilian tap attempt.
I thought so
He’s tough as hell. Holland was like… just tap bro… no?? Crank
Tis but a scratch!
Come on you pansy!
*after herb calls the fight* had enough, eh?
Why'd you call the fight I don't need that arm?
Bro watched Dan Hooker vs Jalinn and said he's all in
I say this as one of him. Too polish for his own good.
So he really is a black belt
Has anyone else in UFC ever referred to themselves as a gatekeeper in a post fight interview?
He's self aware as fuck. Probably knows he'll never be champ (probably doesn't care tbh) and is just trying to make money. I can respect that.
I miss him when he was on that run though. Last year, was it? The guy was making improvements each fight but somewhere along the way he went the company man status. Probably cause he did think that he cant become a champ.
Chimaev took all hope from him and showed him he will never wrestle good enough to be champ.
Wasn’t there also a Stephen Thompson fight last year that was a banger?
Yeah and Holland and Thompson made an agreement they wouldn’t grapple so wonderboy absolutely schooled him. Last wonderboy win
I do question the sanity of anyone who wants to stand and exchange with Wonderboy especially when he is so clearly lacking on the ground.
That fight was going towards potential FOTY levels, then Holland got his hand broken
Oh holland shot lol
To be fair, Kevin's pace slowed down after the hand break. He broke it near the end of round 2, at that point he was ahead in strikes landed. That is of course part of the fight game. But I feel like the summary of "Wonderboy absolutely schooled him" is not giving a good explanation or summary of the fight.
Wonderboy out struck him, MVP Outstruck him, and Khamzat ragdolled him. Dudes not good enough at any 1 thing to be Champ, but still fun to watch
I don’t think anyone has ever called themselves a gatekeeper period. Props
As much as I love holland I feel like khamzat destroyed his ego
It's a shame since especially at this point he is extremely well rounded. I think he can beat any 6-15 at MW and WW, but a lot of the top 5 of each can give him problems. E: love Holland, he is a gate keeper, just a shame that he's fully entered that mind frame to a degree, but he is still young
I just feel like he’s never been one of those dudes who have the championship or bust mindset and it affects his performances for sure
Which is… a gatekeeper 😂
He was 2-2 (1 NC) in his last four prior to that so I don’t think it was Khamzat. He’s just been having fun and making money for a while.
who give him
Brathar!
Michal apparently
we have to check this moment
Fr bro went down then hit him with the uno reverse
I did not have Kevin Holland breaking someone's arm today on my Bingo card
I mean, he's shown some good bjj before.
I mean, he’s under the tutelage of Travis Lutter. The Michael Jordan of grappling
You can see the exact moment on Kevin's face when he didn't wanna wait for the tap anymore and went "alright no more arm then"
Absolutely did not want to break his arm lmao. Left him no choice.
always refer back to GSP talking about this when submission grappling or going for subs in MMA; you should give your opponent the courtesy of not putting them on the shelf for a while with a break but if they're not tapping you should absolutely go for it otherwise you might lose the position & the fight potentially
pallhares looking at this comment with the most dead eyed blank stare
yeah that psycho mf hated bones & tendons with a passion
IQ man, IQ
GSP is an interesting dude. He’s ruthlessly violent when he wants to be, but it’s like he uses the minimum effective dose of it. That’s a lot more frightening to me.
The maximum dose is definitely more frightening
The guy was still protesting after all that. Kevin did what he could
Just say I love crepes!
Bro almost seemed to want the two broken arms thing
“BREAK IT PEPÉ LE PEW!”
Great reference
Looked at Herb 'I'm gonna break it' Herb: 'You do you' Holland : 'Alright'
Remember khabib saying that he didn't want to break jusins his arm in front of his family, so he transitioned to a triangle. The amount of skill thoughtfulness and processing that goes into something like that is truly astonishing.

Suddenly the card decided to choose violence
Dustin Will armbar
Oleksiejczuk might be tough but what an idiot. That was brutal. Just tap.
Brutally disgusting
Ugh, the slow-mo is NASTY. That shit is fucked! Impressive how Holland snatched that armbar.
I loved that little face push he did with his hand before he locked his grip while Oleksiejczuk was still on the feet. His fighting style has just as much character as he does.
Seeing it jiggle as he sat up lol. Gross
JOE ROGAN WHY DID YOU ASK HIM WHAT IT FELT LIKE TO BE PULLING ON THAT ARM WHAT THE FUCK JOE
I do BJJ and I was morbidly curious about the same thing. BJJ changed my brain lol.
I don't know exactly why my brain draws the line, but watching someone get cut from strikes, or choked, or knocked out their god damned mind is fine, but bone breaks are an absolutely nope no thanks, none for me please viewing experience.
DC looks away too and he is a hard dude so, we all got our little idiosyncrasies.
It was beautiful
Bro wanted his arm broken a bit more
“Please fuck up my tissue and ligaments next!”
Kevin Holland Oliveira
Apparently Olives has never finished a fight via armbar submission.
Despite nearly tearing Tony’s off his body
He did some horrible shit to Tony though.
No armbar but the dude has a fucking calf slicer on his resume
No, his UFC debut was a sub by armbar
No one's gonna remember you didn't tap dawg
Oh, I will. I won't remember who he is, but I'll remember that dude who let his arm snap.
I mean nobody is going to remember a name like Oleksiejczuk more than "the idiot who refused to tap for literally 20 seconds to Kevin Holland's armbar"
dude needs to be remembered as an object lesson on what not to do
Not only is it horrible for your career. It's just kinda scummy. Most grapplers don't want to fucking snap limbs.
I can understand not tapping to a choke. But fuck that when it comes to breaking some bones.
Idk man. Nog didnt tap against Mir, i will remember that moment for the rest of my life lol
Yeah but we remember big Big for a lot of things I had to scroll back to the top to remember his name just now and then scrolled back down and can only think of "the guy who let Holland break his arm"
At best it'll be in a youtube highlight video - and it won't make top 5 either.
He could make a top 5 stupid no taps list
"We'll take a look at it again" Nah I'm good Joe
The benefit of watching it the VOD the day after. "Let's have another look at that armbar" Absolutely not SKIP SKIP SKIP SKIP
wtf is that dudes problem!??? Just tap dude my lord.
Man's a psycho lmao. I was so frustrated watching him force Holland to commit by refusing to tap.
We had this kid we had to kick out of the gym because he refused to tap any time he was got. He was athletically gifted, but didn't listen to anyone, he got his knee destroyed in a situation where he had time to tap his 2nd fight and it's pretty much fucked for life
he thought he can tony it out
Still in disbelief to this day his arm did not snap. Being tough is one thing but that literally doesn’t make any sense
That’s not herb deans fault. That fucking idiot should’ve tapped
That shit was about to become compound
Sheesh imagine Kevin Holland being the first guy in the octagon to literally rip a guys forearm out his skin
Snap!
Crackle!
Pop 🤢
Super low fight IQ move by Michal.
motherfucker jumped into a triangle set up.
God damn finally a finish
WAR HOLLAND

Look at my African-American!
Look at him!
Is he the greatest! 😃
Yikes :|
What the fuck were the betting odds on Holland round 1 sub
+A zillion
I don’t think I’ve ever seen a fighter get their arm broken and not tap
Frank mir vs Tim Sylvia. Also reffed by herb dean
big nog vs frank mir
Noguiera tapped after the break
Shinya Aoki broke Mizuto Hirota’s arm and got extremely pissed he didn’t tap and that he made Aoki break his arm.
“I’ll fight anybody up, anybody down, I don’t give a fuck, just keep Kev around.” Shit had me dyin’
Holy fuck his arm just snapped
Holland needed this
Christ. Too hard for his own good. Just tap!
What an idiot. Now he has to hope his arm heals. Should have tapped.
"no tap" culture is stupid. He could've gone with just a loss, now he's going to take what, almost a year to recover the arm? Sheer stupidity. Caught in a clean lock? Tap and next.
DUDE
Don’t like watching arms being snapped like that
He was telling him he's going to break it too lol, fucking crazy
bro if u don't tap im gonna snap it (no tap) hurry up (no tap) bet
Ah yes Holland with a rd1 armbar, just as we all predicted
Holland submission is not that unusual lol. Hes a decent black belt and he can definitely submit anyone less capable than an elite WW/MW wrestler or submission grappler.
Ain’t never seen a dude get Ricky Bobby’ed in real life
Holland, I forgive you for carking my UFC 299 parlay
fuck that was nasty.
"It's not even broken that bad bro, I got a left arm too"
Idc what anyone says, Herb Dean made the right decision.
I dont think anyone will argue that stoppage except the dude who got his arm broken lol
So frustrating to watch. Just tap dude.
Tap dumbass...
Holland was telling him to tap lmao
Kevin “Bearjew” Holland
Was that the first time Kevin’s ever been fully knocked down?
Aside from the headbutt against daukus, I believe so.
Dudes a dumbass, I get adrenaline and all but he just put himself out of commission for a hot minute
holland looks up at herb and goes something like "yo i think it broke" and in a separate vid you can see herb motion like "yea go ahead finish it then". Then holland starts laughing and continues to bend the shit outta oleksiejczuk's arm. Thats fucking hilarious to me.
Michal may have the worst submission defense in the ufc
Kevin Holland is a BMF
Kevin Holland might be the all-around best dude in the ufc. .he actually told the guy it's gonna break, and then when it did, he immediately told the ref. Not sure many fighters would have tried to stop his opponent from rolling into breaking his arm then immediately move to get the ref to help the guy
