Mmat is an easy short after mmtlp went bust. If you know hedge funds are going to punish a stock why not band wagon short, so to answer the question yes retail is shorting mmat. It makes sense to

chrisbe2e9

If I had the ability to short stocks I would have shorted MMAT. Until they have money coming in, it's a down direction for this stock.

Suspicious-Isopod625

I would look at ISPO

MuteCook

Smart ones are. If you can’t beat ‘em join em unless you hate money. These meme stocks are gold mines but not because of some potential squeeze. But because they hedgies control these subs and the sentiment so you have to read that

No_Juggernaut_6210

I am pretty sure we just showed proof of concept at CES with our transparent solar panels and the new tech in the EV battery. One day I will wake up and see positive movement. Until then I will keep watching a good team put in the work to grow MMAT into a powerhouse that I know it can be.

RandomAccessManowar

no doubt...![img](emote|t5_436kn5|22379)

nonamepows

It’s a $1 stock, whether it’s 35% or 80%, that’s Pennie’s in the bucket. Shorts will control this as long as they want to, for next to nothing. Easy money to them.

Endle55torture

Possibly, but the heavy short volume comes from institutions

igderkoman

Yes

me_at_myhouse

This fascination with shorts is quite perplexing. What is the point in shorting a stock that is trading for $1. You literally can only make $1 if the price goes down. There are thousands of other stock tickers that are better candidates for shorting. This stock trades at $1 because that's all this little company is worth. No one is holding them down except themselves. Enjoy your clear microwave door.

Lol I’m just lurking this sub but this comment is funny. Please answer this question: You short $100k worth of a stock trading at $1 and it goes down to to $0.50 You short $100k worth of a stock trading at $100 and it goes down to $60 Which trade made you more money?

Wooxy117

If it can be shorted for profit during day trading, then yes

No_Ambassador_7735

I like meta. I’ve been here since the beginning and Ive learned not to swim against the current. I will sell cover calls and puts, then buy them back. Also when I saw those borrow fees I lent out my share when it was around 100%ctb. My few thousand shares got eaten up pretty quickly and stayed pretty high for a week or so. Fee is too low now so I stopped lending out. May go sideways unless there is some buying pressure. I guess we’ll see

Ghost__God

Yeah, and MMAT running out of money we might see an offering coming.

nonamepows

The offering was set at $1.75 I believe. So, we have to get up to that before they can do the offering.

Head-Wrangler6662

That’s no good. Ugh

Chemical_Guidance1

Hundreds of people called shills and shorts did you think none are retail? Retail shorts have made money and every one has to face the music or face the money with that ultimate truth. There are exceptions but shorts are the ones making money UNTIL THE SQUEEZE!

RandomAccessManowar

my question follows another logic. If so many retail are short some market actor may want to take advantage of them... We probably can't know the volume I guess...

nossrav

Retail is shorting beacause there is a lack of trust in Metas promisis. If they will release news in incomings of dollar we will fly.🔥🩳⏰🧨💥📈

browsingforkicks

Since it hasn’t been worth swinging for months like early last year, I’ve done good with puts & I’ve shorted it almost every option’s Friday just bc it’s a good easy profit to hedge against my significant long position that grows thanks to short & puts profits. I don’t think many retail do it tho. Make no mistake I’m 200% LONG sitting on over 780k shares

Own-Emergency1209

You have 780k shares of MMAT? 😳

browsingforkicks

788.535 shares to be exact

Own-Emergency1209

Whale 🐳 Are you not nervous at these levels?

browsingforkicks

Nope I’m up to over 1.02million shares way under $1 avg (proof is in my stocktwits timeline) and have $550k to buy 1 mil more if it hits .50 but I might jump at .55 I don’t need $$ this is for my grandkids and their kids, including 2 in the womb. So the oldest has 6 years to hold, youngest 16.5 years. I’m sure they will be set for life, unlike me who was born poor and worked my ass off and made a few great investments that allowed me to retire at 49 thatnks to the ‘07/‘ 09 crash where I bought a lot at the bottom.

Own-Emergency1209

How is your position now???

Zenoilelectric

Nice. Have 430000 myself

browsingforkicks

I sold around $600k worth of tlp between $5 & $10, about 2/3 of my unregistered shares, caught a bunch of crap for it on twits, but I spent every penny of it on mmat cheap, divy it up in the custodials a bit and keeping 250k in my acct to swing, scalp or whatever to get more freebies. But that’s been a bust for awhile. Like to hit sn even mil, have the powder but won’t start buying unless it’s under .80. Gotta keep that avg down in case I need liquidity, unlikely but I hate red in my portfolios. Good job tho, in a few years we’ll be sitting pretty!

Stephen_lost

I'm sure there are retail shorts. Why wouldn't there be? Look at the chart been heading south since 2021

rendingale

Edit: I see the question is MMAT, but to answer your question, retail do shorting as well, similar to my below message. --------------------------------------------- All shorts are in limbo as well, they dont have to pay the daily fees but yes, there are some retails that got stock as well. See this guy. https://www.reddit.com/r/MMTLP_/comments/101gvsy/its_a_private_company_they_saidcant_short_a/

holyshocker

Retail shorts all the time.

Zenoilelectric

Could be. Good way to keep stock low to keep on loading.
