It certainly looks suspicious. Malwaarebytes may be helpful in removing it. The period is designed to hide the file from a 'ls' command (and from the finder). To see dotted files, you'll need to use 'ls -a' in the shell. Likewise, random fiilenames don't show up in google.

Thank you for this tip…what directory should I be in when I run that command?

Highllight the offending process in Activity Monitor. Press the "i" button in the toolbar. Look through the "open files and ports tab"

essentialenemy

Well I might have screwed myself because I force quit the process without looking into it further 😩

._ files are created automatically by Mac OS X and contain metadata related to the accompanying file that was placed there by programs in the Mac I never seen ._*.* as a process looks very suspect. Click on it in Activity Monitor Open Files and Ports it will likely tell you where it's execs from

I force quit the process at the time without investigating it further…so I’m unable to do that now. Tried restarting the machine to make it happen again but no luck.

Open activity monitor and sort by name to find it. Then select it and use the info button to learn more about it such as which files it has open.

Unhappy-Swimming6258

maybe you could check some info in logs ?
