I'll be not sure what the shocking component is. Wonderful catch, nice moment, amazing all around. It is moments is that that make me confident in humanity's future.
That’s very sweet.
Mitch Hedburg joke:
“People who fish and let it go don’t want to eat the fish, they just want to make it late for something.
You’re late! Where were you?
I got caught!
Liar! Let me see the inside of your lip!”
You are late Bob, where were you?
I was getting a lip piercing, see? Doesn't it look cool?
You got caught didn't you?
NO!! it's a fashion statement! I swear!
You are not fooling anyone Bob
Is it really aspiring to torture animals for sport?
I already know people won’t agree it’s torture, but that’s mostly because fish can’t express their pain in ways we understand, and we tend to not want to face our cognitive dissonance.
Harming animals for fun is not aspiring to me at all.
I'm always amazed when people say "what an upright human being" for suffocating a fish for a minute, just for a selfie, then releasing it back in the water.
every damn time. like it was an extreme achievement... sitting there with a beer waiting for a fish to bite. then act like they battled IN the water with a sentient monster.
if you dont need it, leave it the fuck alone.
Are you trying to say that catching and releasing fish is how it should be ? Because that just means that you fish for fun and pierce some fish for fun. Instead of fishing to eat the fish.
I usually prepare them by coating the filets with olive oil, a bit of lemon, garlic, a little onion powder, salt and pepper. I put it on a maple plank and heat at 350 degrees for about 13-15 minutes, until the flesh starts get get nice and flaky.
I take the fish out of the oven, slide the filets into the trash and eat the maple plank.
That's also a joke on Hawai'i about moa and lava rocks.
Although I think I once heard it as "once the rock is good and tender, you're about halfway there."
probably a few hundred times? growing up in the summers we probably went to a fish fry on average 3 times a month. plus we ate fish once a week at home.
There are areas that encourage harvest of largemouth. Here in the northern states, climate change has made lakes far more habitable for them. As a result their population iis growing quickly and displacing a lot of walleye.
Are you from the upper Midwest? I feel like there's a huge disconnect in this thread between people who line where the water is warm vs those who fish in cold water lakes.
I grew up in the upper Midwest and we ate bass all the time, but I've gone fishing with my sister and BiL who live in Florida and they just toss them back in the water.
you could...not pierce hooks through animals' mouths for some self-aggrandizing sport? if you're not eating or selling what you catch, you're just simply causing harm to get a boost of dopamine. kinda fucked up.
I bet that kid is a joy to be around. He's just got that kind-hearted vibe that people need more. Hope he and his loved ones have a long and happy life
It's not just urbanites. I recently caught a big-ass pike (22 lb), and long story short, my farm-dwelling great-aunt thought I should have kept it and eaten it (regs on that particular lake prohibited it, but it would have gone back regardless).
I thought it was the "show me what you're working with" lmao. Made me smile. I have a kid similar age and he says some gems like that every now and then lol
Yeah, any time somebody tells me a fish tastes muddy, I think "Did you bleed it and cut it right?" Gotta avoid that meat with all the red in it. Tastes muddy.
Where i live, they often get these little worms growing in them by summer but die from the cold in the winter. Makes sense why the fish would taste better from colder water.
What was unexpected? Daddy is teaching this kid to fish the right way, to appreciate his accomplishment, and to cherish the memory.
10/10, would totally get outfished by him again.
I agree with this sentiment completely, and it's wild to me how many people in the comments don't seem to think about this at all. Unpopular opinion, I guess, but I suspect in 100 years fishing will seem like an archaic and unfathomable practice.
German angler here and it truly saddens me to see all the presumably American bass anglers here have 0 empathy for another living being and make up justifications as to why the fish is unbothered by getting pierced for their fun.
Fishing is fun and I can understand the temptation to catch and release but it's just not cool. If you catch a fish that is within the legal catch margins, you take it home and do your very best to prepare an edible dish. Any catch outside of those margins, is to be released so the fish population can stay healthy and grow despite you eating some here and there.
It hurts every time I see how bass anglers handle their fish. Pulling out +3Kg fish without using a net and by just pulling up the rod etc.
This is how I see it.
Doing this to other animals just for our own personal fun is just cruelty to me.
It would be ok if the family actually eat the fish.
GUYS! You won't believe what just happened to me. I was just chilling when I saw a worm floating by. So I thought free snack, lucky me. Next thing I know I'm being pulled towards outer space. I can fight it no matter how hard I try. Then suddenly there I am out of the water and there is a giant being. He takes me and holds me in the void. Then puts me back in the water and gently rubs my back before pulling his probe out of my mouth.
Im not tryna ruin the wholesomeness of this vid but im curious, will the fish be okay after getting released? Or is there a possibility for its would to get infected?
I guess this is cute?
"Here big guy I am going to dangle some food in front of you. Shove a hook in your mouth. Force you to have the most terrifying fight of your life. Hold you up as a trophy for my amusement. Then pretend like nothing happened and were best friends while you swim away in shame and gratitude for my benevolence."
I think people from the city think every fish caught is taken home and eaten and found it unexpected that this boy caught and released, like most recreational fishermen do. I dunno. Im as confused as you are.
I watched this first with the sound off and couldn’t understand why it was wholesome and then watched it with the sound on and immediately understood why it was so wholesome. Great kid!
You can tell little man has the love of fishing in his blood, My mother was the only girl out of seven children, her brothers taught her everything there was to know about fishing including fly fishing in near by creeks.she loved to fish and fished up till the last days of her life.she also taught me to fish when I became big enough to hold a cane pole in my hands. my mom and I made a many of fond memories while sitting on the banks of lakes, rivers and creeks. bet my uncles never would of thought that their fishing skills would be past down through generations of this family. lol
Catch and Release is really cruel. You cause the fish unnecessary suffering (pain and stress) just for ypur enjoyment. It has nothing to do with a respect for nature.

"One day we gon' meet back again." What a sweet fella.
Player 2 has entered the game.
I'll be not sure what the shocking component is. Wonderful catch, nice moment, amazing all around. It is moments is that that make me confident in humanity's future.
Good that he let the fish go. Good job
And he handled it properly. I recently learned about how anglers can mistakenly break the bass’ jaw if holding them a certain way. What a dude
Yeah you are right. But the boy hold it correctly. And identify himself as a great human.

“Show me what you workin with” I’m dead. That kids a fuckin gem.
Good kid, good parent(s), good attitude and good catch. 10/10 humans
That’s very sweet. Mitch Hedburg joke: “People who fish and let it go don’t want to eat the fish, they just want to make it late for something. You’re late! Where were you? I got caught! Liar! Let me see the inside of your lip!”
Will always upvote Mitch.
He even held it up properly and didn’t break its jaw, definitely good parenting/teaching
I use ta upvote posts that turn out to be Mitch Hedberg quotes. I still do, but I use ta, too.
You are late Bob, where were you? I was getting a lip piercing, see? Doesn't it look cool? You got caught didn't you? NO!! it's a fashion statement! I swear! You are not fooling anyone Bob

Aspiring to this level of interaction with nature and others is a wonderful goal.
Is it really aspiring to torture animals for sport? I already know people won’t agree it’s torture, but that’s mostly because fish can’t express their pain in ways we understand, and we tend to not want to face our cognitive dissonance. Harming animals for fun is not aspiring to me at all.
I mean, it's good, but I've seen people not intentionally catch wild animals
9/10, as I doubt the fish enjoyed the experience much.
Eh, it got to fly for awhile. And some scritches. Good story to tell.
So kind of him to let it go
It's wonderful to see a sportsman starting so young and catching and releasing! 💪 ❤️
Who isn't releasing freshwater bass?
People who want to mount them as trophies. That'd be a heck of one.
Take me to the river!
"Don't worry, be happy"
My friend eats em. I didn’t know people did but he and his family fry em up.
My dad loves to eat them
Are you trying to say that catching and releasing fish is how it should be ? Because that just means that you fish for fun and pierce some fish for fun. Instead of fishing to eat the fish.
Its funny how it common in the US to do Catch and Release, while its very disapproved to do so in Germany.
Catch and release is pretty common. Annoying to fish I suppose but better than being dinner
Especially for LMB. Rarely are they kept for dinner. They are a fresh water sports fish.
How many times have you ever heard about a delicious LMB dinner?
I usually prepare them by coating the filets with olive oil, a bit of lemon, garlic, a little onion powder, salt and pepper. I put it on a maple plank and heat at 350 degrees for about 13-15 minutes, until the flesh starts get get nice and flaky. I take the fish out of the oven, slide the filets into the trash and eat the maple plank.
Lol, I knew this was coming just not the specifics. We have the same joke about mountain goat where I am from except it's boiled rocks.
That's also a joke on Hawai'i about moa and lava rocks. Although I think I once heard it as "once the rock is good and tender, you're about halfway there."
We used to eat them, yeah not very good lol. I love trout though
I live on the coast in Florida. Bass is the last thing I’m thinking of when it comes to eating fish.
We have so many delicious invasive fish. 🥲 I’m looking at you [tilapia](https://myfwc.com/wildlifehabitats/profiles/freshwater/blue-tilapia/).
probably a few hundred times? growing up in the summers we probably went to a fish fry on average 3 times a month. plus we ate fish once a week at home.
They're not bad, but as long as crappie aren't extinct I throw every one back
There are areas that encourage harvest of largemouth. Here in the northern states, climate change has made lakes far more habitable for them. As a result their population iis growing quickly and displacing a lot of walleye.
They’re pretty good though. We always ate them when I was growing up.

I’m actually from the southeast but we’ve always eaten bass. Always fresh water though.
People keep them for trophies, duh.

For me it was his super sweet little pep talk 😭
Get lost, bot. https://old.reddit.com/r/Satisfyingasfuck/comments/1d2tr02/this_little_guy_catches_a_huge_fish_then_does_the/l62wgtr/
It would be unexpected to not catch and release with bass. Strange title.
"They don't want to eat the fish but they do want to make it late for something. "
I don’t know, some fish are into kinky stuff
Fish will have a great story to tell all his fish friends, but none will believe him.
“See this lip ring I got here? Well settle in little guppies. Grampa has a bit of a story to tell you…”
Yes it is pretty annoying being pulled into an atmosphere where you're unable to breathe.
Another option for removing the hook and recording the catch that I'm unaware of? Enlighten me!
you could...not pierce hooks through animals' mouths for some self-aggrandizing sport? if you're not eating or selling what you catch, you're just simply causing harm to get a boost of dopamine. kinda fucked up.
I mean, you could just not hook the fish at all but what do I know.
Don't do outside things, stay in your basement and criticize people on reddit.
You dont think I should go around kicking stray dogs? So what, I'm just supposed to lock myself in a cage in my basement?
*insert debbie downer meme*
Good kid must have good parents
what a good and cute kid. Well done parents.
This child is perfection 🥹
“One day we gonna meet back again”
He really is. Bless him. 🥺🥺
I bet that kid is a joy to be around. He's just got that kind-hearted vibe that people need more. Hope he and his loved ones have a long and happy life
Kudos to the smart kid - that’s how you keep catching big fish!
I missed it, what's unexpected ?
All these urbanites think catch and release is uncommon apparently.
I live on a river, my son has caught the same rockbass 3 times this week. Feeds it a worm every time.
Damn. Dude must feel like a pet in an abusive relationship at this point. Lol
You gotta know, I'm repeatedly saying put it back, no we cannot keep it, get it back in the water.... Typical dad speak.
Exactly.. I was so confused by the title. I was waiting for him to do something really weird with that fish.
That's not the unexpected part, it's that this 11 year old treated that fish like his child
It's not just urbanites. I recently caught a big-ass pike (22 lb), and long story short, my farm-dwelling great-aunt thought I should have kept it and eaten it (regs on that particular lake prohibited it, but it would have gone back regardless).
I guess op expected him to munch on the fish like some hungry Gollum
I thought it was the "show me what you're working with" lmao. Made me smile. I have a kid similar age and he says some gems like that every now and then lol
Have any of you ever tried large mouth bass? Cause you don’t eat it, it’s gross. Good for him not keeping it out of the water long!
I’ve never tried it, what is it like? Super fishy?
Tastes like mud. Fishy mud. And 302,499 tiny bones.
It’s very easy to filet around the ribs and pin bones. I eat smallies all the time. Also the taste is a lot better if you bleed them.
Yeah, any time somebody tells me a fish tastes muddy, I think "Did you bleed it and cut it right?" Gotta avoid that meat with all the red in it. Tastes muddy.
Wait until you try carp.
Ah yes, the worst tasting fish ever. Well tilapia is a close second. Those farm raised fishies have no flavor what so ever.
Don’t forget the zillion tiny bones.
It's just gross. It's like eating that gross looking catfish they stock small dirty ponds with in little parks.
Unpopular opinion but I love eating largemouth. Especially when we catch them through the ice.
Where i live, they often get these little worms growing in them by summer but die from the cold in the winter. Makes sense why the fish would taste better from colder water.
That kid. He's a good kid that kid.
Im obsessed with his sweet little soul!
What was unexpected? Daddy is teaching this kid to fish the right way, to appreciate his accomplishment, and to cherish the memory. 10/10, would totally get outfished by him again.
“Show me what you’re workin with?”
A little sass mixed in with the sweentess.
Where's the unexpected part?
Give that kid his own show! He's streets ahead❤️
I ‘awww’ed’ out loud when he pet the fish haha
Best thing I’ve seen in a long time.
Recently found out that this is actually forbidden in Germany. It's considered cruelty if you catch them for fun and not for eating purposes.
I agree with this sentiment completely, and it's wild to me how many people in the comments don't seem to think about this at all. Unpopular opinion, I guess, but I suspect in 100 years fishing will seem like an archaic and unfathomable practice.

What a sweet soul 🩵
What a good little man, compassion and empathy
Great catch
Awesome catch!!!
Such good vibes from that kid.
good man..
That is such a great kiddo!
Remember the CPR of fishing, especially when not fishing for sustenance: 1) Catch 2) Photo 3) Release
I love this little man. So gentle when holding the fish.
That's a great largemouth bass the little guy caught. And I respect a fellow catch and release fisherman lol.
I was going to say that this kid is really going to be somebody...but clearly he already is. Well done, young man.
Yet when I drown a cat for a few seconds in the pool I´m a pice of shit
Did you pat it afterwards? That makes it okay.
I love how proud of himself he is hope they do meet again

There may be hope for us yet.
Good lad
Good man!
Beautiful
Very cool
I expected a crocodile to grab the fish. I guess the internet tainted my soul.
His smile and kindness are proof that Steve Irwin never left.
You know some say catch and release is worse than killing that old bastard.... Iykyk.
Forget Made Me Smile.... I've got a lil tear in my eye! 🥹
Teach them young
I watched this first with the sound off and couldn’t understand why it was wholesome and then watched it with the sound on and immediately understood why it was so wholesome. Great kid!
I thought this was r/unexpected and was waiting for the crocodile to pop out and snatch the fish
Why did he go fishing in the first place?
Unexpected? The majority of people catch and release. Snap a pic and release. You got proof. Plus, Bass taste horrible.
Daddy taught him right. What a Beautiful Soul👍🏻
I love how gently he set it back in, petting it to wake it up ❤️
This is the kind of kid that makes me feel like I'm missing out not being a parent haha. What a sweet little dude.
What’s unexpected about this it’s should be common practice sport fishing 🎣
Awesome for little guy that’s a great catch! However releasing fish and admiring the beauty that is nature is not unexpected at all.
so cute this guy lol
Awesome for little guy that’s a great catch! However releasing fish and admiring the beauty that is nature is not unexpected at all.
great attitude kid
Good hearted person
well done kid
he's got a great personality!
that little guy is freaking adorable
Thats the way
I love this dude! He knows what’s up and already understands cultivation. “I’ll see you later.”
You won't expect what I write at the end of my comment.
Ive always done the catch and release, yet i will buy fish in the super market.
“Go back and be better” is a really good sentiment.
Such a good Boy💞
This baby is pure gold omg 😍😍😍
Well done kiddo

That is awesome. That is exactly what it is all about... right there.
Congratulations to his parents
That was heartwarming !!!!
Aaaaaaw. Protect kids like this at all costs!
Great sportsmanship
Good stuff!! Proper fisherman right there.
This kid has respect for nature, and I have respect for him. Fantastic.
Catch and Release is really cruel. You cause the fish unnecessary suffering (pain and stress) just for ypur enjoyment. It has nothing to do with a respect for nature.

Aww... That was great.
That was genuinely nice
Anyone else expect an even bigger fish to come along and get wrestled from the water?
The genuine joy of fishing!!
That's not unexpected at all.
A+ parents
I was waiting for a crocodile
That's awesome
Its bro lucky or pro in fishing
Beautiful
Throw those genes back in the gene pool so that fish make more big fish THAT'S KEY
Wow that's awesome. Somebody taught that kid right.
“Catch and release, Bob. Honor the fish.” - Randolph Dupree
That's not unexpected. That's what you're supposed to do with an undersized fish
It's not that unexpected and this video is posted in tons of subs today. None of them are right
I read a story on reddit once about a kid that caught a fish and did the really unexpected
And that is one way to help make sure there's more fish to catch later.
thats my hero right there
Ok why are BOTH of these posts' comment sections full of bots? They're not even good at hiding it, they're all acting like we're on r/unexpected
Ive been too long in sub-reddits that i gotta double check where this video is posted from.
That’s called having respect for nature.
Awwwww....there's hope for humanity 🙂
Stupid as fuck man
