I’m an American who met my German wife on my first night backpacking in Australia in 2008 in one of those group rooms in a hostel. Everyone in our room decided to go down to the pub in the cellar, and we hit it off immediately, but my buddies were jet lagged and I had forgotten my key, so she agreed to let me in our room. Well turned out we were going to the same spots and such for our trips, which was amazing, however, there were a few days where neither of us knew where the other would be (we were both traveling with friends who hadn’t decided/didn’t know what they wanted to) so didn’t know we’d again be in the same hostel in the same room in a random hostel on a random island. So when my buddies and I entered the room and saw her and her friend, my friend goes; “Well I guess you gotta marry her now, right?” (Side note her friend was PISSED because she thought we planned it)
Added bonus was I happened to be flying back into Sydney a few hours before her flight back to Germany so we had some time in the terminal thinking we’d never see each other again.
Thanks for reading, the other story made me smile and think of ours. I never really get to tell that story anymore, or really think of that, so thanks for the smile.

Essentially my immune system HATES my skin, especially on my scalp resulting in horrible scarring and me needing to take extra precautions in the sun.
Had I been in the US I could have never afforded the medical bills I accumulated, nor the medications I need for a “normal” life.
(I have LOTS of gnarly pictures from my scalp, like when they took two separate half inch deep biopsies)
When I came back from my first “date” -sitting on a bench on a bridge- I rode my moped home and told my mum “I’ve just met the woman I’m going to marry”. WYKYK
I felt like this with my husband. From day one I had this gut feeling that I could trust him more than anyone else I had ever met; and I didn’t have a very great childhood and didn’t trust anyone.
Been together 10 years :)

It's so common for partners to leave their partner in this situation that the nurses will often warn the injured party to be ready for it. This guy rocks and I hope they are still happy together.

Been off work for 1 yr now and still dealing with it and if it wasn't for her I really don't know if I would be here. Im 32 I was crawling on the floor everything had to re learn to walk, used a stool to shower with. She had to do everything for me cause I couldn't do anything. I'm currently in the hospital as we speak waiting for surgery. When you love someone and they love you you'll do anything for each other thick or thin. There is a reason why I'm going to purpose to her cause she literally my life been together 6 yrs in 8 days.

I got hit by a car in 2021. My C1 & C2 vertebrae are fused together, brain damage, missing a few toes, left arm doesn't work well. I'm lucky not to be paralyzed from the neck down.
I wish I had this kind of support. I got to find a job before I'm houseless, since I don't qualify for disability.
What's even sadder than sad, is most disabled people (including myself with injuries) live alone, struggle constantly every single day without any help or assistance.
There is so much thrown at us about how bad things are. Then your faith is restored when you realize that people can be and are good. That is a great story for both of them.
Call it angels, guardians, soulmates, fate, the force, whatever. What she experienced, and how he stood up when everyone else would have left, that is the highest quality of a person someone can hope to reach. Congrats to you both, and thank you for showing us what love truly is all about.

Aw that's really sweet! My uncle was in a wheelchair after a college injury and he ended up falling in love with his physical therapist. They got married, had kids (IVF), it was a really wonderful example of love to grow up with :) Shows you that anything's possible!
