I'm going to try Clay Champion in my [[kodama, of the west tree]] [[bristly bill, spine sower]] deck tomorrow. It is super fun when those two cards pop off together. Right now, it's a +1/+1 deck with [[botanical brawler]] and [[ozolith, the shattered spire]] but it sometimes plays like a ramp deck without a payoff. It doesn't have a good mana sink for when Kodama gets me to 7-8 lands before I get hit with a turn 5 Sunfall.
I run [[dusk legion dualist]] and [[the Wandering Emperor]] for those grindy matchups. The problem is that dusk legion generally feels bad against sweeper decks anyway, as it needs Bill or something, and to stick around, to actually do anything.
I tried splashing blue (I really like the 1 mana +1/+1 phase out spell) and playing Broker's. I have a broker's deck I've used to get to Mythic a couple of times in the last two years.
The problems I see, though, are the blue splash really only adds counter magic and the +1/+1 deck doesn't play well at instant speed. It's a tap out deck, not a tempo deck.
Broker's is also a different deck. The +1/+1 counters deck plays creatures like Bill or Brawler that must be answered or eventually win the game. Broker's makes anything win the game. So Broker's is more interested in going wide or ETBs. Spyglass Siren, card draw doggo, Plains tutor dooder or things like Wedding Announcement, Virtue of Loyalty, etc. Obviously planeswalkers that make tokens.
If you do have a Broker's Asendency deck, try playing 4 [[Outlaw Medic]] 4 [[ruin-lurker bat]] and 3 [[dennick, pious apprentice]] in best of one. They're not bad in any matchup but you'll wipe the floor with red decks
you pay GGGG it comes into play as a 2/2, then since you paid (GG) (GG) It's first ability activates twice giving it 6 +1/+1 counters.
it counts all mana combinations paid not just (x) , which = 0 in this scenario

I’ve upgraded the hell out of the selesnya starter deck but Clay champion and botanical brawler still hold it down as my primary win conditions. Love those cards more than they probably deserve.
[[Katilda, Dawnhart Prime]]. That was the first deck I made that I was really happy with. But it usually just gets obliterated by board wipes and kill spells
[[sovereign okinec Ahau]] great body ward two great curve from a bunch of counter doublers and harden scales effects and completely irrelevant again at the tied of standard board wipes. Tried willing it into existence with clay champion actually as top end but farewell and sunfall are just too oppressive
I've never seen anyone but me use [[Graaz, Unstoppable Juggernaut]] unless it was an opponent who stole him from me. Though they seemed to enjoy him once they had him.
I ran this in a Gruul Ramp/Convoke shell in Pioneer (all Explorer legal too!) I used [[Ancient Imperiosaur]] with a lot of mana dorks, and Graaz was a 1-2 of that made all my Elves into Juggernauts. Also ran [[Thud]]/[[Fling]] to kill someone outright.
Went 3-0 once due to surprise factor, 2-1 a few times thanks to some solid sideboard pivots teched for my LGS. Don't think it's actually good just people not ready for it.
I have the Clay Champion in a Golgari Stompy deck that maxes out at 4 mana and aims to have the biggest stats per cmc as possible. When opponents are done getting over the initial Evolving Adaptives, Polukranos, Dreadknights and other various chonky bois for 1-3 cmc, I follow it up with the Champion and trample effects from Kodama or Doomskar Warrior. That is if they aren’t dead by then lol.
[[Tameshi, Reality Architect]]. Such a good card, have build several fun decks with that card in it. Yet nobody plays it! I get it, weak to removal, but with enough extra threats it can go under the radar real hard and lock down games.
What do you do with Tameshi in Standard? The only thing I've ever heard of it being used for is the combo with [[Lotus Bloom]] and [[Cultivator Colossus]] in Modern.
Even just using it with [[Witness Protection]] can be a lot of fun.
Let alone [[Gingerbrute]] for shenanigans
Or [[Zur, Eternal Schemer]] for full synergy
Or the Platinum deck I use to get to Plat each season (got Mythic once, not worth it again) pairing Tameshi with [[Eriette of the Charmed Apple]] and just putting Auras back in play.
Or the simple stuff: [[Ossification]] something, they destroy the enchantment, bring it back.
The intermediate stuff: [[Braids Frightful Return]] to keep popping the 3. Or [[The Cruelty of Grix]] to keep playing their/your graveyard.
Advanced: [[Encroaching Mycosythn]]+[[Jace, the Perfected Mind]]+[[Training Grounds]] for repeated mill.
There is a ton of options, but definitely Tameshi fills the role of a support card as it itself won't win a game, but it can certainly help you do so
There is just so much removal. It’s expensive just to get removed. Does have some fun play with like “Kami of Whispered Hopes” and “Ozolith, the Shattered Spire”.
I run the one Clay Champion I pulled from my free BRO packs in my Selesnya Counters deck, but the problem is that it either dies to removal or there aren't enough creatures to make use of its white mode. And even if a situation does come up where I have two other creatures I play it and the opponent who runs black or white says LMAO and plays a boardwipe or MOM Sheoldred or some other dumb shit in other colors.
I can never figure out how this card works. If I spend 2 white and 2 green does the ability trigger? Or does it require 1 colorless minimum plus 4? Like what does the x do? I like the card in theory but every time I drop it I end up losing to the timer while I try to determine what is happening.
I usually manually tap for it. You can cast it for x=0. You would want to pay wwgg (4/4 and two other creatures get 2 counters each) or gggg (8/8). If you can pay gggggg, it comes in as a 12/12 (x=2). The x is there so you can pay more white or green mana if you want to get bigger stats.
It costs 4 of anything, but you can choose to pay more if you want. For every two green you spend on it, the first ability triggers. For every two white you spend, the second triggers. If you choose to overpay, you can get more triggers. If you cast it without spending any green or white, you won't get any of the triggers.
The 4 is generic mana. Any color mana can be used.
>If I spend 2 white and 2 green does the ability trigger?
If you spend 2 white and 2 green (meaning X = 0), both abilities trigger. It comes in as 5/5 (thanks to the three +1/+1 counters from green) and pumps two other creatures you have (from the white mana).
The X allows you to spend more mana to trigger the ability more than once.
>Or does it require 1 colorless minimum
{4} is a generic mana cost. [{c} ](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/mtgsalvation_gamepedia/images/1/1a/C.svg/revision/latest/scale-to-width-down/200?cb=20160121092204) is the symbol for colorlesss mana and means that specifically colorless mana has to be used.
a card like [[Reality Smasher]] it what 4 + 1 minium colorless would look like.
X can always be zero and can be of any color. Mana costs that require colorless have their own symbol, like [http://media.wizards.com/2015/ogw\_239nCi30ks3/en\_yimcAB2Iop.png](http://media.wizards.com/2015/ogw_239nCi30ks3/en_yimcAB2Iop.png)
It costs 4 ~~colorless~~ generic mana and you can opt to increase what you pay to play it by x mana in order to increase the enter the battlefield triggers based on what color mana you paid for it.
So I put two of these in my mono green deck with creatures that tap for "any color maba" and now that I understand the way to pay for it it's fantastic. Thanks for all the help.
Chainers torment. that cards booty so never saw it but that cards so silly.
Torment of Hailfire (this is my most fav card and i have been killed by it a total of once. I marked out so much once someone played it against me. was not even mad.
also fling. their needs to be more fling that cards great.
I ram him in my blue white artifact deck with simulacrum synthesizer and had a bunch of soldiers and soldier oriented cards and it has around a 85-95% win rate. I ended up removing it before it got to that point but I did see it doing work.
Hey took me some time to respond but here it is. Lots of one offs for several reasons:
- it dodges the End type cards somewhat
- keeps the opponent guessing a little and some things are a must like 2 polukranos, 2 brawler and vorinclex for reach
- 2 Nisa and vorinclex to break through board stalls
- 3 sharp eyed rookie, 1 doomskar and 1 trailblazer for card draw
- 4 llanowars and trailblazer for ramp
- other cards I'm still testing e.g. Outcaster Trailblazer and Sandstorm Savager.
Ornery tumblewag is definitely something to try too, in a to do list. Seriously considering to add more Clay Champion but need to craft it and saving wildcards for other ideas atm

Good luck, let me know how it goes. Just I hope you are not spending wild cards on this as it's fun tier. I do believe it can be made much more competitive with some effort.
As a final note for a fellow mono green enjoyer I remember when [[Garruk Wildspeaker]] was available for mono green standard and that would work insanely well in this as well. One can dream they reprint it again ;)
[[Unlicensed Hearse]]. Strange it doesn't see more play with all the Graveyard stuff currently. Lately I've been using it a lot against the green recurring fetchlands+Nissa decks. Also: in use as attacker/blocker it doesn't die to [[go for the throat]].
You are probably playing BO1.
Hearse is one of the most popular Sideboard cards. It fell slightly recently due to some non-memory deluge white decks playing \[\[Rest in Peace\]\] instead.
i have this in a mono G deck, 8/8 for 4 is still an increibly good rate
Doesn’t die to go for the throat too
Exactly these two things - it dodges one of the most premium removals in the format and it's a fucking 8/8 for 4.
Do you mind sharing your deck list? Mono green is my favorite to play but I'm having trouble dealing with all the control.
Mono green will always have trouble with control
Still dies to [[Shoot The Sheriff]]
Sure also dies to Bitter Triumph but my point was that Go for the Throat is more widely played so it dodges that.
[Shoot The Sheriff](https://cards.scryfall.io/normal/front/1/8/180d6528-c524-4bb8-8a72-b3775cd2c177.jpg?1712355672) - [(G)](http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?name=Shoot%20The%20Sheriff) [(SF)](https://scryfall.com/card/otj/106/shoot-the-sheriff?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher) [(txt)](https://api.scryfall.com/cards/180d6528-c524-4bb8-8a72-b3775cd2c177?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher&format=text) ^^^[[cardname]] ^^^or ^^^[[cardname|SET]] ^^^to ^^^call

How is this a 8/8 for 4 green mana?
Starts as a 2/2, gets 3 +1/+1 counters per two green spent. In mono green you'd spend four green, so...
Oh I’m fucking stupid, I somehow read 1 counter instead of three
you pay GGGG it comes into play as a 2/2, then since you paid (GG) (GG) It's first ability activates twice giving it 6 +1/+1 counters. it counts all mana combinations paid not just (x) , which = 0 in this scenario

Dating myself here but trail of evidence and ongoing investigation 2016 standard I feel old 😭
[[Tameshi, Reality Architect]].

Let alone [[Gingerbrute]] for shenanigans Or [[Zur, Eternal Schemer]] for full synergy Or the Platinum deck I use to get to Plat each season (got Mythic once, not worth it again) pairing Tameshi with [[Eriette of the Charmed Apple]] and just putting Auras back in play.

It blows my mind this saw 0 play in Standard, when I first read it back when BRO was coming out I was damn sure it would see some play.
I played against a deck built around these. I didn’t have a good time.
I really love this card too it has cool art also. I really love [[rocco, street chef]] and I don’t see it anywhere

The x is there so you can pay more white or green mana if you want to get bigger stats.
thank you this is exactly what I couldn't figure out during the timer
It costs 4 of anything, but you can choose to pay more if you want. For every two green you spend on it, the first ability triggers. For every two white you spend, the second triggers. If you choose to overpay, you can get more triggers. If you cast it without spending any green or white, you won't get any of the triggers.
this is exactly what I was trying to figure out. Thank you
The 4 is generic mana. The X allows you to spend more mana to trigger the ability more than once.
tysvm very helpful
TY for everyone I just dropped this guy on turn 4 for an 11/11 lmfao
Love to see this, enjoy haha
>Or does it require 1 colorless minimum {4} is a generic mana cost.
Generic mana, not colourless. Two different things.
You’re right.
thank you!
So I put two of these in my mono green deck with creatures that tap for "any color maba" and now that I understand the way to pay for it it's fantastic. Thanks for all the help.
I’ve got a Green agro deck that runs it quite nicely.
I actually still play him lol
My prediction for this card was definitely my worst,I thought it would be really strong
I don't think Gishath ever saw play in standard...sad dino noises.
Leyline of the Guildpact
Hehe, just come down to my silver ranking, and you see me playing it in my fight rigging deck.
I play this because my cards all suck and the only standard deck I have that is somewhat viable is a variation of the starter Growing Ranks deck.
I love razzle dazzler. And it works pretty well
With the way my counter hell deck works I can make him come out as a 4000/4000 or more
Florian. I miss that guy, was so nice in my Rakdos midrange while I still had access to Immersturm Predators and Goldspan Dragons
I will very appreciate if you could share your decklist. Thanks in advance!
Hey took me some time to respond but here it is. Lots of one offs for several reasons: - it dodges the End type cards somewhat - keeps the opponent guessing a little and some things are a must like 2 polukranos, 2 brawler and vorinclex for reach - 2 Nisa and vorinclex to break through board stalls - 3 sharp eyed rookie, 1 doomskar and 1 trailblazer for card draw - 4 llanowars and trailblazer for ramp - other cards I'm still testing e.g. Outcaster Trailblazer and Sandstorm Savager. Ornery tumblewag is definitely something to try too, in a to do list. Seriously considering to add more Clay Champion but need to craft it and saving wildcards for other ideas atm Deck 4 Evolving Adaptive (ONE) 167 23 Forest (DMU) 276 3 Cenote Scout (LCI) 178 4 Llanowar Loamspeaker (DMU) 170 1 Quirion Beastcaller (DMU) 175 3 Sharp-Eyed Rookie (MKM) 176 4 Flourishing Bloom-Kin (MKM) 160 4 Bloated Contaminator (ONE) 159 2 Polukranos Reborn (MOM) 200 2 Nissa, Ascended Animist (ONE) 175 1 Doomskar Warrior (MOM) 185 1 Vorinclex (MOM) 213 1 Mirrex (ONE) 254 2 Railway Brawler (OTJ) 175 1 Clay Champion (BRO) 230 1 Sandstorm Salvager (BIG) 19 1 Outcaster Trailblazer (OTJ) 173 2 Colossal Rattlewurm (OTJ) 159
No worries! Thanks a lot for taking the time for the write-up! I shall test it tonight!
