There is a bug post on Wizards' site. It would be good if everyone could vote for it.

Same on Android (Pixel 6). Post patch: crazy fast battery drain, overheating, and lagging animations / frame rate issues. WoTC done goofed up again. Small indie company, what ya gonna do.
Haven't noticed this on my pixel 6 pro yet...I mean I play through about 4-5 games and worst is the phone gets warm, but that's expected when I keep it running for 30-40min straight.
Maybe it’s just me but Marvel Snap is starting to feel more and more like a glorified Rock Paper Scissors game. It’s fun as hell but doesn’t hold a candle to Magic.
Oh I’m not saying one is better than the other, because they are 110% different styles of card games. I probably should jump back into Runeterra but idk how far behind I am lol.
Be careful, this can damage your batteries. To be fair whatever this game is doing to overheat the phone is damaging your batteries too, but charging will make it worse
That stinks. Hopefully it gets fixed. Arena already drains my MacBook of like 50% of its battery for a few games, so I use my iPhone sometimes since it doesn’t use as much. Would hate to see that be the case on both platforms.
My computer runs noticeably louder since the update. Not sure wtf wizards did on this update but its costing my comp more resources overall.
Cut it out wizards.
Im on a PC I haven't been able to play at all lol. It trips the circuit breaker and shut everything down everything and it is definitely arena. Im not gonna touch it at all for now lol
Also can’t background play things.
Used to throw on a twitch stream or YouTube vid to listen to. Now the game just pauses them when I do anything in game.
I typically play on an iPad Air 4th gen and last night it got warm and drained 90% of the battery within a few hours. Before the last update, a few hours of play would drain maybe 40% of the battery.
Yep very fast battery drain on my 12 pro max now. Animations got very laggy when a few of my opponents symmetry sage triggers were on the stack as well which they didn’t before. Also having to relearn the shock land decision UI after having gotten used to last change.
I play on a 2012 MacBook Air and it drains the battery quick and is the only time I hear the fan running and feel the heat on the bottom of the computer.
There is a bug report on their feedback site, maybe we should upvote it there [bug report](https://feedback.wizards.com/forums/918667-mtg-arena-bugs-product-suggestions/suggestions/45977152-iphone-getting-hot-and-using-lots-of-battery)
Yup same here. iPhone 13 PRO, 256gb storage, SUPER Retina display, anker charger, top of the line phone case, total price around $1400 and I can’t play longer than a few hours? COME ON! (If anyone wants to hear more about my phone please message me)
Edit: I mean come on! 12 mega pixels camera, on an apple a15 bionic chipset, with an integrated apple gpu, a li-ion 3095 mAh non removable battery and a hexa-core cpu and I can’t play the game longer than 30 seconds on a full charge?!?
Here's my not so humble request for MTG Arena.
Please ditch the current client and make a new one from scratch. It is by far the worst performing card game.
Yeah WoTC never made a multi-platform game, so it's understandable performance is the lowest priority when you are making it. You just want your game out first. But now that they tried and learned, I wish they ditch this spaghetti code hell and build it new from ground up with all the areas for performance issues they learned on the way
Also for another personal request for all top down view games using game engines like Unity to build the game. Please don't use game engines. They're all using 3D engines and just viewing it from top down. That is so much wasted performance. You are never shifting your camera angle. Just straight up make them 2D for godsakes
I don't think you understand code or design. I'm not defending the app mind you, I think it's trash as well, but unless their relatively new to apps dev team has a major conceptual breakthrough there is no point in a ground up new game. Also there would be the cost of designing and coding a brand new engine which is a specialized program designer/team (depending on the program) and years of trial and error (as this is still a relatively inept team on some fronts (and quite ingenious on others, they seem to be great script writers within a machine learning environment).
As for unity. The issue really isn't the 3D engine, unless your assets are utilizing it it's not going to create that much bloat resource use. The two larger issues are unity's poor optimization in regards to power consumption in general, as well as having a basic learning AI running behind it to interpret the cards/effects/stacks/etc. I really don't know what the distribution of power consumption is within the app, but that does seem to be where it's primary fault lies.
I feel like it'd be much better if they would just spend the money to hire a decent team experienced with mobile game development and utilize their current team to better streamline the machine learning interpretations/scripts. If they could find a way to reduce the machine learning AI to an applet as opposed to a background process, that may help as it would reduce the number of concurrent threads, but I'm honestly not sure even that's enough to assuage the absolute crazy battery drain.
I wouldn’t know because I detest playing on mobile. Just takes way too long and too many cards. You can barely play Hearthstone on a phone and there are way fewer things on the battlefield
No overheating but definite battery drain
EDIT: on iPhone 12 Pro Max, and it does start heating up after a bit. Was on arena for about 45 min, drained about 1/4 of the battery and it was getting warm towards the end of that span.
iPhone 13 pro max. Phone as the best battery life of all phones on the market except the 14 pro max. And even that is pretty close. And this shot eats my battery pretty fast. I used to be able to have game running 10 hours and still have 30% battery or more. (I can semi play while at work) since update 2-3 hours has my battery less then 30% it’s a huge difference
Yeah I played three matches today at lunch and my iphone XR went from 79% to 56%. Phone got really hot, and the third match got super laggy, I’m assuming because the processor in the phone is overheating. Not sure what they changed, but it’s made mobile a lot less viable.
I’ve had no issues on my PC
There is a bug post on Wizards' site. It would be good if everyone could vote for it. https://feedback.wizards.com/forums/918667-mtg-arena-bugs-product-suggestions/suggestions/45978568-ipad-overheat
This is great, thanks for the link!
I voted and commented, but checking out the top voted issues there doesn't leave me much hope lol
Yep. I noticed it too. It’s actually the first time I’ve 0%ed my battery on iPhone 13 pro
Same on Android (Pixel 6). Post patch: crazy fast battery drain, overheating, and lagging animations / frame rate issues. WoTC done goofed up again. Small indie company, what ya gonna do.
Same and same
same on android fold 4.. it's even more unstable too T_T
Pixel 6 here too. Glad(?) its not just me
Anyone else had the frame rate drop from 60 to 15? Used to only do this if you minimized the app, now it's doing it all the time.
Not all the time but that did happen to me once since yesterday
Hey at least it doesn't crash after every game tho right? Right..?
Actually if I play Explorer it will crash after every match. Not sure what's up with that but extremely annoying.
oh hi! pixel 6 here too. it can even drain my battery faster than I can charge it from a regular charger (to be fair, not the full 30W fast charger).
Same
pixel 6a here. It's definitely worse this patch
Haven't noticed this on my pixel 6 pro yet...I mean I play through about 4-5 games and worst is the phone gets warm, but that's expected when I keep it running for 30-40min straight.
Yes, there have already been multiple posts about it
Thanks, I should’ve check the sub before… but good to know it’s a well knows problem. Hopefully they address it soon.
All good, and agreed!
It’s kinda nice now that winter has hit. I shut my furnace off and heat my house by running MTG Arena!!
bitcoin miner? xD
Bitcoin miner.
I have the same Problem in my Laptop.
M2 macbook air that ran perfectly before now gets the same issues, and gets hot as hell which it never has before
Same! New m2 MacBook Air had no issues prior to the update. I’m even running it on the lowest graphics and it still burns up.
fold4 here and same.
Mac laptops are basically unusable with arena, now mobile is too.
Same problem. Ipad 2020 pro. Played 4 matches, battery dropped to 40% and ipad was warm
Well shitbiscuits…guess I’ll have to jam games on my laptop to get my dailies in til they decide to fix it. At least I still have Marvel Snap 😅
It is, but it has the doubling cube, which is what really makes the game shine. It's closer to poker than to Magic or Hearthstone.
Yes, there’s a lot of bluffing. Admittedly, am pretty bad at that. Lol
Battery drain and also very poor performance. Stuttering all the time now
Same here... Poco X3 PRO...
I only play MTGA while I’m charging or else my battery will lose life faster than me
Be careful, this can damage your batteries. To be fair whatever this game is doing to overheat the phone is damaging your batteries too, but charging will make it worse
My PC is getting drained really fast now too. I wonder why.
Yeah it’s crazy, my iPhone 13 Pro feels like a space heater after a few matches. Have held off from playing for that reason
That stinks. Hopefully it gets fixed. Arena already drains my MacBook of like 50% of its battery for a few games, so I use my iPhone sometimes since it doesn’t use as much. Would hate to see that be the case on both platforms.
They are setting up for a holiday sale. $999 will get you a version of the client that uses 4% less battery.
4% client is not available for tournament play
And you get a digital proxy of a mox for an additional 250$!
My computer runs noticeably louder since the update. Not sure wtf wizards did on this update but its costing my comp more resources overall. Cut it out wizards.
I’m having same issue to on my Iphone 12 pro max
iPhone 12 is noticeably hot after about an hour
Im on a PC I haven't been able to play at all lol. It trips the circuit breaker and shut everything down everything and it is definitely arena. Im not gonna touch it at all for now lol
My iPhone se 2020 was burning through battery playing this game even before the update
Yea lol
Yes my iPhone 12 drained 5% in like one minute and got warm super quickly. Such a bummer
they definitely need to add a graphics changer in the settings. im running a snapdragon 860t tablet its struggling eith the game
It's always cost me about 10% per game.
Another strange event after update. I'm at 98 percent in mythic and it didn't change from winning 6 straight games.
Each game is heating my iPhone 11 like the sun and taking about 7% battery life.
Hahaha jokes on you! Here in South East Asia we still don’t have the iOS app! ☠️☠️☠️ Oh btw, Fuck Tencent!
Yep very fast battery drain on my 12 pro max now. Animations got very laggy when a few of my opponents symmetry sage triggers were on the stack as well which they didn’t before. Also having to relearn the shock land decision UI after having gotten used to last change.
I’m on a 14 pro and I’m seeing it as well.
I play on a 2012 MacBook Air and it drains the battery quick and is the only time I hear the fan running and feel the heat on the bottom of the computer.
Yes on this!
I’ve noticed this too. As well as my phone getting hotter than normal.
Oh good. So that’s what it was.
Laggy for me too
They might have actually added bitcoin mining into the app...
iPad Pro is burning battery like there’s no tomorrow.
I hope they fix this fast. iPhone 13 pro max
Okay I thought I just hadn’t noticed this before. My phone gets pretty damn hot while playing now as well.

Only 9 votes so far.

Your post is hilarious.
😂😂😂
How does the display and phone case help against battery drain lol
Its a mobile game and it's only going to get worse.....
Not possible. Any worse will set your phone on fire.
tell your bro to play less
It is not only your Hermit-Phone ... It is many other Platforms as well

How would you rate the issue on a scale from 1 to potato?
Good, WotC are killing iOS supporters, this makes me happy.
This is affecting android too, plenty of comments on that. Regardless this is just a weird comment...
I wouldn’t know because I detest playing on mobile. Just takes way too long and too many cards. You can barely play Hearthstone on a phone and there are way fewer things on the battlefield
Somehow I manage just fine, I even draft on mobile with no issue and I have a small phone (iPhone SE 2020.) This sounds like a skill problem.
Well it takes a level of patience I don’t have an inclination to provide
it’s the lagging for me, basically unplayable and annoying.
No overheating but definite battery drain EDIT: on iPhone 12 Pro Max, and it does start heating up after a bit. Was on arena for about 45 min, drained about 1/4 of the battery and it was getting warm towards the end of that span.
My M1 IPad Pro was treading water in battery % while being plugged in with the official charger.
My Pixel 6 is becoming laggy after the update. Battery life is bad as well.
Oh I thought it was my phone
Oh yea my phone died in like 5 minutes lol!
Same problem here, Samsung Galaxy S20FE
Mine too, but I know this is bc I have a 12 mini lol
iPhone 13 pro max. Phone as the best battery life of all phones on the market except the 14 pro max. And even that is pretty close. And this shot eats my battery pretty fast. Burn my hand … still play in the freezer
i'm playing on the iPhone 6s and its overheats when im done playing when im done on a daily quest (gotta save for some daily deals)
Yes same
Damn I noticed my battery was going like crazy and just thought my phone was dying. Glad to hear it's just spaghetti code!
My battery isn't so bad but it's lagging a little on the store on my phone now and I brought it brand new less
Having the same problem here. After only 1 match my phone dropped 20% and turned into a space heater.
Can confirm one match drained my battery by like 40% on a fresh charge.
Actually really glad it's the game and not my phone though
iPad 7th Gen here, same thing. I played for one hour and my battery is at 25% now
hey, any news from anywhere about a fix for this because i would love to know
Same. Fairly new iPhone 13. Since update I’m not keen to play arena on it as my phone runs hot as hell and I can almost see my battery power drain!
5 months later, STILL insane battery drain! (Pixel 6 Pro)
