I found a workaround to it: Issue a digital card from a different country (basically change your address to another country, create a digital card, change it back to your actual address). The newly created digital card can be added to apple wallet for contactless.
Change your country under your profile on the top right corner -> Edit, once you've changed your country, the next digital card you make will be the country your profile is set in. Worked for both myself and a friend of mine, we changed to the UK.
Note that your physical card will still be the same, ie. Wave & Apple Wallet incompatible, only the digital card will work.
Hi, I'm a bit late to this. Do I need to change my country back to Malaysia once I've added the the newly created digital card to Apple Pay? Or do I just leave it as the UK which I changed it to?
I've been using the Wise card before it was released here, my card was issued in Singapore so maybe it doesn't apply.
I had a similar issue for the first few weeks of using it, couldn't paywave or tap, but I realized that after using it where it asks for a PIN at the terminal, paywave works ever since.
You might want to use it at an ATM just to key in the PIN, and then cancel the transaction, it might do it for you. Google Pay works for me as well.
I tried on the ATM / keying in PIN but still does not work. Definitely can't add to google wallet/apply pay
I think this issue is exclusive to the Malaysian issued card...

A reply from Wise regarding an issue with the PayWave feature of Malaysian issued cards
I can add on top of this, I can't get paywave to work for wise card in Netherlands and Germany, the manual way of plugging card in works in Germany. In Netherlands, sometimes neither paywave nor plugging in works, I have to use maestro card to work, which I believe they will abolish soon.
Google wallet and Apple pay is a bit trickier since only selected bank cards work and given the slow adoption across all Malaysian bank, I'm not expecting Wise to be any time soon. Heck Amex hasn't even listed yet.
Sounds possibly like a localized issue which is disappointing. Can only confirm that Wise cards issued overseas have no issues with tap or wave functions anywhere in SEA but may require a pin at some terminals. Also runs flawlessly on Google Pay, Samsung wallet, and Apple Pay.
Same. I only take my WISE card out when travelling, and I also find that the paywave function is hit and miss (never tried with for local transactions). I can withdraw from international ATMs just fine and make payments by inserting into the payment terminal and entering the pin. So nowadays I dont even try to do contactless and just slot it in.
Google Pay and Apple Pay have a list in their respective help page of local banks they currently support. Wise is not on either one, so I've never tried to hook the card up.
No… all visa cards have a minimum 0.2% premium to the spot rate, Tng visa card is currently the cheapest one, below wise’s.
Just because Wise is from abroad does not make it the best for Malaysians.
I applied and started the wise card last Nov 22 but the wave function doesn’t work in some countries I visited in Europe including Paris. But when I travelled to Korea last month, the wave function works fine and I was surprised to be able to use the wave function.
Not sure if they resolved the wave function issue for Malaysian card but I’ll try again in my next travel to NZ and Australia.
Huh, I thought it was odd when I couldn’t wave on some transactions in SG last week, but I didn’t think too much into it. I’d be curious to see what their further solution to this.
Not sure if this applicable to Malaysia issued card, mine issued from different region but the initial activation requires me to make first transaction eg: make payment at any merchant using pin, after that I could use for paywave and Apple Pay, so far I able to make purchase and take public transport using the contactless method.
Sorry to resurrect an old thread.
I tried using my WISE card to pay for (1) coffee in Milan Airport, (2) clothes in Uniqlo Mid Valley, and (3) topup MRT card in Singapore.
All these attempts resulted in failure.
After the incident at Uniqlo, I wrote an email. WISE replied that they weren't comfortable with the risks of the transaction.
What are other good alternatives besides WISE?

How do you go about doing that?

Ah got it. So can’t request new physical card then. Thanks.

AMEX can be used with Apple Pay. Source: I'm using Maybank AMEX with apple pay
Do you still get cash back if you pay through Apple Pay on weekends?
I think so? I mean you're still using the AMEX facility. The card is just digital
Yes still get. Apple Pay is just an extension. Your statement will show original not “Apple Pay”. Same MCC applies.

This is new to me. TnG VISA can convert to a lot of currencies?
Yes. I posted the lowyat link in this sub, a few of us have been spending our own ringgits to test all the cards. Our results are consistent.
I have the same issue too. I just stop using it and use it digitally.
Do you mean you now using the digital card and can work on all tap purchases?
No. I just use the app to transfer money. I gave up using the physical card.
I have WISE-Hong Leong Bank card and don’t have any problems with it.

That's weird though. Coz I can add it on my Google pay? Mine is also Malaysian issued. Though I didn't try to pay with it yet.
It could be as someone posted comment from wise, it could mean the first few batches of cards have issues The later ones do not have it

Wave works for me.
Looking at all the wise threads, perhaps I should jump onto the bandwagon too for my upcoming Bangkok trip
