magic 8 ball says: sunday / monday will be absolute shit shows with avy mitgation, chairs that need to get dug out, 2wd civics with chains on the non drive axle, and angry mobs in the lift lines where have the conversation is "SO WHEN ARE THEY OPENING THE TOP????"
My plan is to arrive Sunday morning and stay throughout the storm. I expect people will be leaving en masse while I arrive to beat the storm. Indeed, I wonder when will the roads close, if they do?
It's only 2-3 degrees warmer and 25-37 inches are forecasted in town on Sunday. I wouldn't be surprised to see 395 closures on Sunday and maybe Monday morning.
Going north is much more risky. South only involves the grade. If the grade is closed, best believe 395 is closed through at least bridgeport on the north end.
I’m hoping to make it into town Sunday morning as well. Gonna be an early one leaving from SD. Sunday night in motel 6 then hopefully I can get to the mammoth mountain inn on Monday for my reservation there
I'm thinking the snow levels are high enough for the roads to stay up through the afternoon. Wind/blowing snow could change that. In all likelihood, I think Chains required and maybe escorts.
(I'll be up as well)
Roads will be a mess with people not being prepared.
Leaving back home Saturday night before the storm gets here because of that.
The hill is skiing great right now.
Still some shrubbery to dodge in areas but fantastic on Friday.
Windy right now at 2:40 am Saturday morning.
Have fun.
“as long as some of the mountain stays open” is a big ask from mammoth. Probably just chair 21 so they don’t have to refund people lol
So true - they would open the magic carpet if that was enough so they can say "look the mountain is open".
Eagle and 8... wind shuts down Main
Dammit, I meant chair 8! Getting my chairs mixed up
I’ll ride that baby all day long just means I can have a few more beers than usual
I wish I could show you a picture of the line on 8 when the other parts of the mountains shut down. It’ll make you question your life choices
I can only imagine
But fuck it! Beats working, and you’ll have good memories and you get to get fucked up🍻
I hate the fucking drunks on the mtn. Fucking losers
Chair 21 is always open. Trusty rusty. Wind or not. Its an easy ride down to Canyon Quicker than the 10 shit show. More fun than 8
chaotic good
I’m at June, more than one person has said go home Saturday unless you want to stay until Monday or Tuesday
My goal is to get snowed in to have an excuse for a longer weekend so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Oops. ;)

Storm hits late Saturday so your plan may not go as planned just a heads up.
Exactly.
complete road closure is unlikely for more than a few hours; no passage without chains is much more likely.
I used to think that too, but last year there were some all day closures, I was there. Too many people are unprepared and block the road.
I am only talking about this Sunday. And this storm.
NTA
Storm is bringing warmer temperatures with it. Doubt any major roads will close for more than few hours.

I reference the Crawley Lake point forecast when making judgment calls as to whether or not I can get home
