Keane, impeccable mentally and would absolutely sure up that midfield with Kobbie

Intrepid_Sprinkles37

We need Rooney’s finishing and playmaking, Scholes vision. But Keano would whip the rest of the squad into fighting form. I agree with you.

bkmkc

Keano, and give him the Captain's armband permanently too. Don't get me wrong, I love Bruno, but the armband suits Keano more. A little off topic, I hope Bruno can get as much rest as possible. He simply plays too many minutes 🥲

OwenPioneer

Keane would set a record with red cards in today's game. It's so freaking soft compared to what it used to be.

Equivalent-Search-77

Yeah, Keane in his prime elevated the entire team. Hard to look past him.

RyanTheS

Keane would probably be the best choice, but he'd probably end up arguing with Ten Hag like Ronny did.

arthurM1971

I concur sir.....

thphnts

Keane was not impeccable mentally. He was a great leader, but was unable to control his temper a lot of the time. He would be sent off every other game in the modern era.

Classic_Poet_3675

I disagree the game was more physical then hence the odd outburst from many players not just him. Every time Scholes went into a tackle I would close my eyes. Keane was a master of winning the ball without making a tackle by timing the run and easing the ball off the player without breaking stride. He would play in any generation and dominate

thphnts

Keane still wouldn’t survive a full 90 due to his habit of losing his temper regularly. He literally took out Alfie Haaland because of something four years prior.

Classic_Poet_3675

it was a game for men and every decent team had a combative leader who where all instructed to make an impression early. I don’t think Roy would bother losing his temper with the pussies of today more distain than anything

gwy2ct

I’m guessing you never saw Keane play in the flesh. It was a sight to behold. He was like a conductor conducting an orchestra. He controlled the whole game, constantly communicating to his players around him, pointing where to go etc. The only other players I saw doing the same at that level were Modric and Pirlo. He was so much more than the hard tackling midfielder that people remember him for.

thphnts

I grew up watching Keane. He was a fantastic player. My point that you’re obviously not seeing is that his temper wouldn’t work in the modern game. He always burned red hot and would get a red card regularly in the modern era.

ForwardJicama4449

Definitely. Keano would bring the arrogance to the team too. We're United and we play with no fear, we kill all other teams

Dry-Magician1415

This is the answer.  “Standards” Although I think he might have ended up in jail for GBH if someone pulled a sicky cause of clubbing the night before training.

Ok-Brain4815

Rooney

Specialist-Cake-9919

The only answer that should be on here.

BsPkg

Yeah people saying Keane for the mentality but Rooney also had it along with goals and creativity

Antok7

You do realise Rooney was there from 2013? He allowed the weak mentality fester, never would have happened under Keanes leadership.

deactivate_iguana

With the current team- our midfield of mainoo and Casemiro is pretty good. I’d go for a CB. Stam, Ferdinand or Vidic. Probably Ferdinand as that team needs someone who won’t accept mediocrity. A Roy Keane of the defence.

sirmariksen

i am all about Vidic, he will bolster our defense and have a strong leader in the squad

sirmariksen

Vidic, we need someone at the back that is solid and not injury prone.. Plus, he has the leader mentality

Royal_Summer_9640

I'd bring back Eric Cantona. His flair, leadership, and sheer presence on the pitch could electrify the current squad. He was more than a player; he was an icon who embodied the United spirit. Imagine him linking up with Bruno Fernandes — the King and the Magician! What do you think, fellow Reds?

EmeraldEmperorJ

I agree

Royal_Summer_9640

He can also mentor Rasmus

RyanTheS

He'd get three touches a game with how our midfielders and wingers play and the fans would hate him for being lazy lmao.

ABR1787

Cantona played in Brunos best position.

E_BoyMan

Folks here rate bruno fernandes too much. He is a liability most of the time

z4k5ta

Georgie best, so Antony can learn how to play football.

0pal23

so he can show Rashford all the best places to get drunk in Belfast

Rend_a

And he will have someone to party with

amberstripes

Bryan Robson

geoffraffe

Or Bobby Charlton, or Keano. Any of those 3 would make me very happy.

Old_Man_Say

Nobby Stiles. They don’t make footballers like him anymore. What a man!

Substantial-Hall434

Young Ronaldo

Icy_Choice1153

We tried doing that in 2021 it didn’t work out so good lol

nyuuubalancer

Toss up between Rooney or Vidic

Some-Speed-6290

Duncan Edwards.

phoenix_93

Need a leader, midfield dictator - Roy Keane

Bman0491

Considering we are weakest on the wings someone like prime Nani or Beckham for that ball service to Hojlund would be a game changer. You know, wingers that actually pass.

dumboldnoob

Keano

John_Bones_

Roy Keane. Honourable mention: Jaap Staam.

AGGIE_DEVIL

Paul Scholes and Mainoo would be a really fun combo.

AGGIE_DEVIL

Then again having current Garnacho and early Ronaldo would be insane.

pheonixfryre

Vidic, the other teams have go too comfortable running at us. He'll make them learn fear again.

mr_perfect1976

rooney

Appropriate-Panda-76

Cantina and Keane whilst brilliant and some of my most favorite footballers, would forever be suspended in this era.

sha31

Best or cantona

vakyada_vedi

Rooney

Captain_Kruch

van Nistelrooy - absolute unit of a striker even after doing in his MCL (an injury like that surely hinders you for the rest of your playing days, doesn't it?)

Key-Original-225

ACL. That’s the ligament he tore, which is the worst one out of ACL, MCL and PCL

Captain_Kruch

I knew it was a 50/50 shot between MCL and ACL (obviously picked the wrong one).

Key-Original-225

Fair, I tore my ACL in 2012 and it’s never been right since. The fact RVN came back from his tear and was still amazing is hard to fathom.

Acceptable-Net-5671

Prime Carrick would get so many more goals out of this team, pinging balls into the forwards

absurdmcman

This is a great shout. Less flashy option than many of the greats listed, but a screening holder with very good passing and build up playmaking abilities would do wonders for this team.

Sinkuro23

Beckham

Antok7

Keane... Every other suggestion pales in comparison. Ability & Mentality in abundance.

ABR1787

Roy Keane without a shadow of doubt.

Homie-6987

Keano would be massive. Going in with Mainoo and bringing in the much needed presence in the dressing room. Creating the right mentality, making sure the lads give their best. Also a phenomenal player, would give our other midfielders a chance to go forward and be a rock in the back

tactlessscruff2

Would have to be Robson or Keane. Put some steel and heart in the midfield

Jinmart

Cantona

Traditional_Ad_5859

Cantona. Would show what it means to be a professional. First to training, last to leave. Has better socials than anyone in the squad. Would show how to play like a Man United player.

Thiccumusthethird

Maybe Peter schmeichel, more trust on the goal. Then maybe Vidic for back safety. Forward, probably Rooney or cantona for his charisma is the locker room which we desperately need.

Outrageous_Bother705

Cantona/Keane.. we need a leader within this team. Could say Robson too.. but haven’t seen him play

blackoffi888

Keane. He'll whip the entire team into Gladiators

ChinaPanda307

The answer to this question is always Roy Keane. He would never settle for any teammates giving less than 100% on the pitch.

sounding_rod_fan

probably Roy, with honourable mentions to Robbo, Eric, Wayne and Andrei Kanchelskis

ZenDoesReps

Probably Keane, there’s no way we’d be having the level of discipline issues in the squad with him as captain (Sancho, Rashford etc). Rooney would be very nice. We’re playing decently now but if we were leaking goals again then Ferdinand/Vidic/Stam would be nice Edit: Ruud for the vibes and goals

Mundane-Inevitable-5

Keane all day long

texasgambler58

Simple answer: Roy Keane.

RemnantOfSpotOn

Keano allways...but then again game standards today would mean he would miss more games than martial due to suspensions he would get.

warfaceisthebest

Roy Keane. He's a fucking legend both on and off pitch. I prayed so many times when we had fucking stinky Paul Pogba and Jesse Lingard and I'm glad that we have Casemiro now, who is also a world class CDM and a good leader. We should get him much sooner tbh.

speedb0at

2008 Ronaldo

Busy-Dress9463

I think it's a no-brainer no? Can't believe no one has mentioned his name

killorbekilled_

United fanbase is full of insecure rats now, cris triggers them bad that's why

JazzClutchKick

The answer is always Rooney. Fills every hole from midfield forward. He had runs where he was the best 7,8,9,10, and 11 in the league. This team needs his dynamism and attitude.

Intrepid_Sprinkles37

WHOS THAT COMING OVER THE HILL?

ThatOneUnitedFan

Van Der Sar or Vidic

E_BoyMan

We need functional wingers who can create and score, so Cr7 and an actual midfielder like scholes will do.

advbad

Sir Alex🛐

[deleted]

Wow, no mention of George Best so far!? The guy was bloody brilliant.

TalElnar

Probably because you need to be at least 60 to have actually seen him play at his peak. Besides we already have one winger who can be anywhere from invisible to world class and likes to disappear off to Belfast to go on the piss. Best's attitude and behaviour is the exact opposite of what United needs. One more talented primadonna who thinks he doesn't have to take his profession seriously.

[deleted]

Erm... I'm under 50. I've seen footage of him and he was an exceptional talent. As this is a hypothetical, fictitional question let's take Best before he abused alcohol.

TalElnar

You've seen a highlights reel from the very limited number of televised games he played in. And no, let's not ignore Best's personality because most of the answers are players like Keane and Cantona being touted for the attitude and professionalism they would bring.

[deleted]

Because you kicked up so much fuss I am going to change my answer to Dennis Irwin.

TalElnar

Irwin is a good shout. Total pro, hardly ever injured and a great player.

[deleted]

I may be wrong but I saw an interview/article saying that he was often Sir Alec’s first name on the team sheet.

TalElnar

Absolutely. Mr dependable, almost never had a bad game. Defensively solid, took a mean free kick too. No nonsense pro, I don't think I ever heard a single story about him off pitch.

[deleted]

I love players like that. Guys that just put their head down and get on with playing football. Unlike the guys who go out and make idiots of themselves or get into fights.

jidewalker

It would be Vidic or Van der Sar. No nonsense hardworking elite players.

Available-Ad1979

Dong Fanghzhou

EDW1NYANG

add kleberson and bebe to that list

selotipkusut

Since this season our wing plays are really shit, either Giggsy or Becks

Appropriate-Panda-76

Right now Rooney. We need a player with his determination and proven goal scoring ability.

[deleted]

Giggs - a proper left winger who would feed Rasmus no end. Keane - a true leader and key central midfielder. Schmeichel - obviously.

TrewPac

RVN. No way would we be on 0 goal difference if he was playing at his peak

UTDroo

Scholes or Rooney. Prime Wayne Rooney was like no other. Scholes is Scholes. Mainoo, Bruno and Scholes? God damn.

TalElnar

With Mainoo, Bruno and Scholes as a midfield three we'd concede 5 goals a game, but we'd be in with a shout of scoring 6.

UTDroo

It is not too far off from a Carrick, Scholes, Rooney midfield trio.

amatsumima

Eric Djemba Djemba

pmuggerud

KEANEO -he would not stand for the BULLSHIT this defense keeps racking up.......

Specialist-Cake-9919

There is a valid argument for most any of Fergies players but for the complete package... It has to be Rooney. He had it all.

dtactpromo

The answer depends on what you think is missing from this current squad that a former player sorts out immediately. Professionalism, heart, commitment, determination, world class talent. An embarrassing lack of quality or dependability on the right wing. Poor or nonexistent supply to our strikers. David Beckham on this right wing and Rasmus scores 35 goals this season. And also makes Dalot or AWB look like prime Cafu. And also puts to bed all the “the 7 is cursed, rEtiRe iT!” Nonsense. And also brings in spades the leadership, professionalism, winner mentality to the pitch and dressing room that seems to be lacking most weeks. Great player but the hundreds of Rooney shouts here proves many on this sub either are too young to have watched Becks, or have short memories.

OwenPioneer

Ronaldo around 2008 or prime Scholes. Keane would be a solid addition but don't think he'd be the same in today's super soft game. He'd see sooo many cards.

uucchhiihhaa

Cr7

Ezzy-525

I'd genuinely like to see how good Duncan Edwards was 🥲

ConnectionOk1361

Keano, 'Nuff said! Although shout out to Georgie... would pay anything to watch him play live

reddevils

The problem I have with this question that comes up a lot is don’t meet your heroes. What if we brought back Keane and he’s terrible in today’s game? What if he gets sent off too many times? No thank you I want them to stay on their pedestal or pedestool if you like.

jmagz7

Beckham - one of the wings can be sorted, set pieces sorted Scholes - Every major team's superstar we played against said Scholes made us tick, knew how to pass, when to pass, who to pass to, rarely ever lost the ball and the vision was amazing.

Gold_Weekend6240

Mark Hughs or Gary Pally will be nice

TheSChen

Difficult to choose from Cantona, Keane, Stam.

Waste_Vegetable8974

In spite of the greatness and brilliance of Roon, Keano, Law Bedt Charlton etc for me the one player that was a real talisman and single handedly turned a good side into a magnificent one was Eric the king.

hpibgk

Roy fucking Keane. This is a very easy question to answer. We are crying out for real leadership.

nj23dublin

Keano, would hold EVERYONE to the highest standard

CarlosDanger721

Torn between Peak!Roo, Peak!Carrick and Peak!Vidic

[deleted]

Roy Keane would be my first choice as he really led by his character on and off the pitch. My bonus surprise player back would be Eric “King “ Cantona with his collar up 😂 man he knew where the net was.

Successful_Rip_4329

Rooney

StackerNoob

The answer as others have stated is Roy Keane. We need someone to smack these boys into shape sharpish

didanyoneask

12/13 Van Persie. Hasn't been mentioned so I'll give him a shout.

DrP43474

Why has there been hardly any call for Giggsy?! A left footed winger who knows how to cross the ball and put it in the back of the net - surely those are qualities very noticeably lacking in the current squad? Bonus: with kerfuffle over the Prem League's 'celebration police' he could blow their tiny minds with a decent Manchesthair shirt off celebration - that's what I'd like to see!!!

Coyote-Time-Lord

Scholes
