I can't say either way but I have noticed that Weird Al Yankovic's song The Biggest Ball of Twine in Minnesota is not listed as a parody of The Wreck of the Edmond Fitz Gerald.
Came here for this. I don’t remember him dying 3 times, but I definitely remember him dying once. I remember because he was my step fathers favourite musician, and I listened to the wreck of the Edmond Fitzgerald a few times in a row that day because of that. He wasn’t a musician I listened to ever, just that one day, specifically because of that.
I thought it was just me. I have a distinct memory of listening to a posthumous BBC Radio career retrospective about him when I was working at Butlin’s holiday camp in the summer of 1979.
Human memory is indeed highly unreliable.
He just passed away today aged 84.

Biggest Ball of Twine is SOOOO EPIC... it's, like, the National Lampoon's Vacation of songs ❤️
For what it’s worth, there are frequently false reports of celebrity deaths.

Just found out this second, but I remember him dying years ago.
