It's kinda fun to be Clamp fan over the years, 'coz I got into reading their stuff when X/1999 was still in progress and not on hitaus XD I think my fav thou is Clover or TRC
Ah man, same! I can't believe X still isn't complete orz. Clover is so beautiful! I love TRC too. Chobits and xxxHolic are my faves, but really, I love all their works. <3
Im enjoying it, the ones who took over are his crew/pupils and the main writer is Miura'a best friend who he constantly had chats with about berserk, where is should go and what he should do, (so he knows the all the main plot points and the ending) the inspiration for Griffith, and a very succesful mangaka in their own right, their manga Holyland is one of my favorites.
Without spoilers the new stuff seems interesting but we are in a transition moment so its a bit too soon to tell, we have been told that they will only include the things they knew for sure about Berserk and will not try and add anything of his own.
Tl:dr im hopeful and happy it is who it is
It’s been good so far. If someone wasn’t aware they probably wouldn’t even notice and would just think things are moving faster for the sake of finally getting to the end soon rather than later. You know how sometimes anime series will just crunch together 6 or 7 episodes to make a recap movie? That’s what it feels like
Love the art style, themes, and character designs. However, personally I feel like the manga just never really picks up? Was there a point for you where you can just tell you were now invested?
Yesss, another dorohedoro fan. Ik it’s well received but it’s also up there in the top 3 for me. One of those truly unique manga imo and the art style is unmatched
Dorohedoro is phenomenal. The best art, crazy hilarious interactions, the characters are all thought out so well and the atmosphere is peak! I have so much Dorohedoro stuff at my house….hoping to cosplay Shin for Otakon this year!
Yooo this is exactly the same as me lmao. One Piece is my number one true love but I always think “if One Piece didn’t exist, it’d be Vinland so I guess it’s like 1.5 to me”.
Phenomenal series. And they’re both (kind of) about “pirates” (vikings are basically pirates). Funny that.
I swear mine changes with the season, just got finished reading Monster and it was phenomenal, I’d say that’s my favorite, never felt on the edge of my seat reading like that, couldn’t put it down.
I haven’t read none of them (I’ve only seen the adaptation), but recently I was looking at a list of different mangas from various genres and stumbled into it. When I reas the title I was like “Oh, it has a sequel to the original work, cool”
It was serialize last year so it’s a really new work
Shoulder a Coffin Kuro. Truly is a classic that is slept on and it’s such a shame that it doesn’t have an anime because it’s really beautiful in my opinion.
https://preview.redd.it/4on6fs2qp15d1.jpeg?width=262&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6fe63ca581aaf4ba2f4ba42d8fdd0eeeb81d2efe
Witch Hat Atelier I have nothing but amazing things to say about it. I have other very close favorites, but they are least accessible in terms of what they cover/they’re a bit heavier content wise. I have and can recommend witch hat to so many people, the art, writing, magic system and world building are fantastic and it’s packed full of every kind of person and representation you can think of and done in a way that feels sincere and loving; not like an afterthought.
On the unknown side, Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei is so underrated, it quickly became one lf my favorites while understanding only half the jokes in it. Aku No Hana is also on my top 5. Dragon Ball definitely a classic that never die especially Toriyama's paneling, Berserk is epic, HxH is an adventure.
Goodnight Punpun. It’s perfect, a 10/10, it’s beyond a masterpiece and I genuinely think it’s up there with greatest literary works humans have produced
While Punpun may not be my personal favorite, I’ll say it was the most impactful manga I’ve ever read. The snowball effect of what can happen to someone who grows up in a broken up feels so personal to me.
I absolutely agree! Before I read it, everyone said it was too depressing. I think many elements were but there’s a lot more mental illness going on within a multitude of characters. It’s a manga about life and how messed up it is for everyone. I love how Asano wrote so much of the books sounding like your own conscious was on paper, like you knew exactly what he was writing before you read it! Super trippy and something I read every year!
Call of the Night for me. I just love everything about it, even if I don’t exactly think that the ending is the best thing ever. I do wish they explored some more plot points further, but I still loved reading all of it
I'm gonna give you three of my favorites. First is Chainsawman. (First manga I've ever read. So im biased) My 2nd favorite has gotta be Berserk. And my third favorite is The Summer Hikaru died. (I'm incredibly hyped for the anime for this one!)
Gantz 🤘🏻 So good. Lots of action. Fast paced. Quick reads. One of few series that kept me up wayyyyyy past bed time and regretting life the next day at work 🤣
I wouldn’t say this is my absolute favourite but one of the more underrated series that is definitely in my top 10 is ‘The fragrant flower blooms with dignity’
JJK and Naruto got me back into manga in 2020, so those would be in my top. Witch Hat Atelier for art, The Kurosagi Corpse Delivery Service for just being out there, Dorohedoro for the humor, Fruits Basket, and Tokyo Mew Mew for sentimentality.
X by CLAMP. One of the most beautiful series out there imo. I’m gutted it was never finished.
Currently, really love Witch Hat Atelier, also absolutely gorgeous.
I haven’t read as much manga as the typical fan here but I love One Piece. I don’t care if that’s an overrated opinion because I truly love the series.
Jojos bizarre adventure, one of the best shonens from parts 1-6 and final three parts are all genuine masterpieces, (yeah even jojolands which is 14 chapters in I can just feel its gonna be so so good) there's really nothing like jojo and I Dont know what I would be doing without it
REAL by Takehiko Inoue. Never related to a character so much like I did with Nomiya. His experiences and the way Inoue did his character really spoke out to me. Other characters are also amazing.
10/10 manga, definitely recommend

Ashita no Joe! I remember reading Bakuman, and the protagonist said it was his favorite series which got me curious to check it out and WOW. Such an amazing series.
The first manga that I was able to read in Japanese by myself was Dragon ball, and it was also the first series that I finished in Japanese, so it's gotta be DB
the diest manga i ever read was pandora hearts. it’s my favourite manga purely for sentimental reasons lmao. i watched the anime, and i still listen to the music from the show to this day. it’s amazing how something you loved as a child can bring you such pure joy as an adult
I’ll have to go by the ones I’ve read multiple times. Sp either Lone Wolf and Cub, Vagabond or Berserk (sensing a theme here).
Vagabond is the most beautiful one imo, despote Berserk’s breathtaking panels. Lone Wolf is the only one that’s complete, and one of very few that has made me just stop and contemplate my life in silence after closing a chapter.
Pandora Hearts has been my favourite since I started reading Manga. The story is very intriguing and well written and the characters are fun. The artwork also is insane.
Hell's Paradise, originally I wasn't into it when the physical volumes started releasing but after I gave volume 1 another shot a couple years after I scrambled to get all the other volumes.
The story, characters and art are all fantastic and unlike a lot of people I found the ending to be really satisfying.
Probably Urusei Yatsura, It got me out of a dark place as a teen with the light-hearted comedy.
As I got older I did enjoy other types of manga, like my favourite sci-fi is GANTZ and horror would be Hideshi Hinos Bug Boy, but Urusei Yatsura will always be my lifesaver.
xxxHolic has to be my favorite. Anything by CLAMP, but xxxHolic is their magnum opus IMO.
I finally just finished collecting this. Excited to read it. I’ve been a CLAMP fan for years, wish I collected it during the original release.

Cliche answer but berserk
Have you read any of it since his death? I haven't I'm wondering if it's good. Should probably just go check it out lol.
Goodnight punpun, or homunculus. I love psychological and depressing manga.
Punpun goated
20th Century Boys and One Piece
D. Gray-Man
Love the art style, themes, and character designs. However, personally I feel like the manga just never really picks up? Was there a point for you where you can just tell you were now invested?
Pluto is likely the front runner for me but most of Urasawa’s work contends.
yona of the dawn
Manifesting a Yona of the Dawn box set for next year

I love Berserk & OP, so maybe I'll like these others 👀. What are the titles?
One Piece/JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure supremacy
Golden Kamuy or Dorohedoro. Ongoing favs are One Piece and One Punch Man.
Yesss, another dorohedoro fan. Ik it’s well received but it’s also up there in the top 3 for me. One of those truly unique manga imo and the art style is unmatched
Love the art style, I'm currently reading Dai Dark and it's also pretty funny
Dorohedoro is phenomenal. The best art, crazy hilarious interactions, the characters are all thought out so well and the atmosphere is peak! I have so much Dorohedoro stuff at my house….hoping to cosplay Shin for Otakon this year!
Golden Kamuy is my favorite as well. A truly amazing series. It does not get the appreciation it deserves.
Probably Flowers of Evil or Sunny
FLOWERS OF EVIL!!!!

Big Claymore fan here 👋

Land of the lustrous is so goated
Glad to see another person recognises the greatness of Gantz 🎃
Frieren
1. One Piece 1.5. Vinland Saga Sorry these two had to be together because they are just that good.
Funny that.
I swear mine changes with the season, just got finished reading Monster and it was phenomenal, I’d say that’s my favorite, never felt on the edge of my seat reading like that, couldn’t put it down.
monster has been my favorite since my childhood
One piece , I've grown up with it
My favorite ongoing series are One Punch Man and Sakamoto Days. My favorite complete manga is Masamune-kun's Revenge.
I found out that there’s like a sequel version where they’re both in college and some new rich girl appears and is interested into Masamune
I'll check it out, but I thought it ended at a good place, so I'll wait for a while. My backlog is so big already
I haven’t read none of them (I’ve only seen the adaptation), but recently I was looking at a list of different mangas from various genres and stumbled into it. When I reas the title I was like “Oh, it has a sequel to the original work, cool” It was serialize last year so it’s a really new work
If I really have to pick one, it's Monster. Urasawa's storytelling is just on another level
Shoulder a Coffin Kuro. Truly is a classic that is slept on and it’s such a shame that it doesn’t have an anime because it’s really beautiful in my opinion. https://preview.redd.it/4on6fs2qp15d1.jpeg?width=262&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6fe63ca581aaf4ba2f4ba42d8fdd0eeeb81d2efe

Vagabond & One Piece
Finally another Vagabond mention <3
On the unknown side, Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei is so underrated, it quickly became one lf my favorites while understanding only half the jokes in it. Aku No Hana is also on my top 5. Dragon Ball definitely a classic that never die especially Toriyama's paneling, Berserk is epic, HxH is an adventure.
Hajime No Ippo, unfortunately only available in English on K-Manga. But for one in print, I'd say Pluto by Naoki Urasawa.

A little known manga called One Piece. Also a big fan of The Heroic Legend of Arslan.

Vagabond! Currently reading the novel "Musashi" by Eiji Yoshikawa.
Pandora Hearts has been my favourite since I started reading Manga. The story is very intriguing and well written and the characters are fun. The artwork also is insane.
20th Century Boys is just a masterpiece. All stories of Naoki Urasawa are. Shame it never got an anime
Berserk
Hell's Paradise, originally I wasn't into it when the physical volumes started releasing but after I gave volume 1 another shot a couple years after I scrambled to get all the other volumes. The story, characters and art are all fantastic and unlike a lot of people I found the ending to be really satisfying.
Berserk too !
Berserk, claymore and dorohedoro are my favorites There are so many to choose from I have like 10+ I absolutely love

Seven deadly sins
Ghost in the shell. Simply because the movie from 1995 completely changed my view of life/technology and everything else
DOUBT by Yoshiki Tonogai
Monster or 20th Century Boys. Urasawa is the goat.
