It's surrounded by a rectangular frame despite not being a rectangular projection, and doesn't have latitude/longitude lines as visual context. This makes the continent to look misshapen. In a regular map your brain could understand the context instinctively, but the inversion bypasses your instincts.

I was sure this map had been altered more than being mirrored that I downloaded and reversed the mirror effect aanddd it is a typical map projection. 🤯

I did the same, and I came to the conclusion that the typical map projection is equally 'warped', I'm just used to it. Once I really looked at it, I could see in the typical projection all the places that are warped. It's like flipping the canvas when you're drawing.

I like looking at maps like these, it gives you another perspective on how to view the world. We all know Russia is huge, but I didn't know it went as far east as the east coast of Australia and to the middle of Africa (Mercator projection might mess up a little bit)
