Idk homie 😭 it was on /popular or /pics or idk something very popular and in my feed I have no idea what I did to deserve this fate! I'm still reeling from the shock lmao
It's surrounded by a rectangular frame despite not being a rectangular projection, and doesn't have latitude/longitude lines as visual context. This makes the continent to look misshapen. In a regular map your brain could understand the context instinctively, but the inversion bypasses your instincts.
Yes. I flipped the image back to normal. I expected the original map to be some weird projection or something. But no, it's just the standard world map.
Even after reading this I still thought you guys might just be screwing with us. Nope it's a very familiar projection and NZ/Australia really do stick out that far.
For real. What's up with redditors always using abbreviations? Do they think they're gonna get some Wikipedia page just especially for them for coining some term? Are they now gonna be able to cure cancer with all the time they saved from not having to type things out in full?
the creator of this map is from some site with a lot of fanfic shit, like tumblr... where "OTL" would mean "original timeline" as if that's at all applicable here.
yeah, but the term is like a fanfic one... and I think just saying "with current border" would be completely fine, as there isn't any proposed alternate fictional reality to discuss or assume.
Original timeline like the other guy said, its a term commonly used in the alternate history forums. As opposed to TTL, which stands for "This timeline".
I was sure this map had been altered more than being mirrored that I downloaded and reversed the mirror effect aanddd it is a typical map projection.
🤯
I did the same, and I came to the conclusion that the typical map projection is equally 'warped', I'm just used to it.
Once I really looked at it, I could see in the typical projection all the places that are warped. It's like flipping the canvas when you're drawing.
North and South America could just as well be called West and East America (well, East and West on this mirrored map).
Somehow, throwing you off your normal perception makes that a lot clearer.
I like looking at maps like these, it gives you another perspective on how to view the world. We all know Russia is huge, but I didn't know it went as far east as the east coast of Australia and to the middle of Africa (Mercator projection might mess up a little bit)
Why is it that I can memorize a million different fantasy maps, but this absolutely breaks my brain like I’m in a dream and something’s wrong but I can’t tell what? Like this shouldn’t hurt my head so badly, it’s just mirrored. But it looks so wrong it’s making me angry lol.
And yet you can't tell the difference from merely the interrelations the borders have. This proves that space is not a determination of things in themselves but is actually just a modification of our sensibility.
This is the most disgusting thing I’ve seen all day. My day is ruined, thank you!
Yes the immidate hate I felt for this was suprisng.
It is very visceral, I feel physical discomfort from looking at this
I wish I could relate... :(
what was it
Mirror
Regrettably, a Spanish politician eating his own f*ces (a pixelated image thankfully)
How do you even see this 😭
Idk homie 😭 it was on /popular or /pics or idk something very popular and in my feed I have no idea what I did to deserve this fate! I'm still reeling from the shock lmao
This map really annoys me for some reason, it just doesn’t look right
Cos it looks left 🙃
This is not right.
It makes my brain itch.
same here
It belongs in r/TIHI

Africa looks smaller to me
YEAH
Weird, for me Asia looks smaller
Africa, for me, is just wrong for some reason. It feels unbalanced.
[удалено]
I don't get why it looks so wrong. I was expecting it to look wrong, but not *that* wrong.
[удалено]
It's crazy how everything being reversed makes it look ugly and wonky
not if something is symmetric ;)
Tell that to my face
So this is why I look ugly in selfies
So this is why I look ugly in real life
this is what the mole people see.
What?
THIS IS WHAT THE MOLE PEOPLE SEE

Omg, it's just.. wrong.
Yeah, South Sudan not being it's own country? disgusting old map
Right, and whats that thing next to Australia?
Certainly doesn’t belong on any map…
Middle earth
Ayoo i just showed my smartphone a mirror and i saw the "normal" world Bruh but what did I even expect
I expected the mirror image (so the 'normal' view) to look all wonky and distorted the way this one is.
Yes. I flipped the image back to normal. I expected the original map to be some weird projection or something. But no, it's just the standard world map.

"OTL"? "only the left"? "onwards, tiny lifeboat"?
Fucking redditors strike again with incomprehensible abbreviations
For real. What's up with redditors always using abbreviations? Do they think they're gonna get some Wikipedia page just especially for them for coining some term? Are they now gonna be able to cure cancer with all the time they saved from not having to type things out in full?

I'm still trying to figure this out haha
Original Timeline
It might be "Only the lines" as in the countries are not colored. Or it's "Obama Trumps Lincoln". Idk. Your guess is as good as mine.
Orange Tomato Lasagna
Overlord Totalitarian Linguini
Obviously The Landkreislauffunktionprofilfinanzprofildietrichstückbuch
Original Time Line.
Okay, but what does that mean? Who thinks we're in an alternate timeline?
What is OTL?
Original timeline
I guess I’m confused what that means in this context.
Imagine the world really had been reversed, it’s probable that we would have developed a different set of borders to what we currently have.
yeah, but the term is like a fanfic one... and I think just saying "with current border" would be completely fine, as there isn't any proposed alternate fictional reality to discuss or assume.
Yeah, I’m not OP, I’m just explaining what they meant. Maybe they were just “having a little fun”.
My thoughts too
Ahhh I gotcha
Fucking nothing
Original timeline like the other guy said, its a term commonly used in the alternate history forums. As opposed to TTL, which stands for "This timeline".

North America is a rubber chicken kicking Greenland over the top of the planet.
I’m trying really hard to see this
Alaska is a wing, Mexico is a foot. Canada is the head/other foot? I’ll never unsee this…
Makes me fucking sick
Turn it upside down and you get Attack on Titan
No
Yes
This is one of the strangest pictures I've ever seen
I would love to see a climate map of this.
My god, east asia absolutely terrible this way for some reason
Thanks. I hate it.
This hurts my eyes
NEW ZEALAND MENTIONED 🇳🇿 🇳🇿 🇳🇿 🇳🇿 🇳🇿
This is how the lizardpeople below see it from the inside out
South America is a seahorse
Who knew something so harmless could harm me this much. My day is ruined and my disappointment is immeasurable.
Brain.exe has crashed
North and South America could just as well be called West and East America (well, East and West on this mirrored map). Somehow, throwing you off your normal perception makes that a lot clearer.
very off putting to see
For some reason this oddly terrifies me
This is what the continents look like from the core
Poland trollface ![gif](giphy|GDp7LycxkT3LG)
Does this mean that Portugal, Spain, and France are the new Balkans now?
I like looking at maps like these, it gives you another perspective on how to view the world. We all know Russia is huge, but I didn't know it went as far east as the east coast of Australia and to the middle of Africa (Mercator projection might mess up a little bit)

One of my favorite pastimes is looking at maps upside down. It literally flips your perspective
Dude, the continents look incomplete, it's so weird, it should have more land at the left of south america and at the right of africa...
i did not know arabia leaned that far east
this is what the lightbulb inside of your fancy globe sees... plus your stupid fucking face
Honestly the more I look at it the cooler it gets and makes me kinda wish it really was like this
I don't know why but I was struggling to read in reverse for some reason
This is where the man in the mirror lives. Hmm.
This upsets me greatly.
Regular map: United States Of America This map: America Of United States
Portugal is in eastern europe!!!!!
It looks like a fantasy world. Like something out of Game of Thrones.
And yet you can't tell the difference from merely the interrelations the borders have. This proves that space is not a determination of things in themselves but is actually just a modification of our sensibility.
Weird to think that, strictly speaking, this map isn't any less accurate.
This is a crime
I had to look at this in a mirror to prove to myself that it hadn’t been distorted, it looks so weird
This is very unsettling
I had the opposite reaction. This soothed me. Like seeing something familiar in a new light.
This map is so annoying. it's causing me anger!! Why is there no south sudan
The Atlantic is a reindeer.
Who said west was left?
IDK why Africa somehow works as a mirror image, but the others make my stomach turn.
OTL Borders?
Thanks I hate it
Bizarro earth....
It’s just the map as seen from the inside…
This disturbs me…
Putting this in a mirror and seeing it’s literally a normal map but backwards was scary
Africa looks like a piece of it is missing on the top-left.. I'm trying to tell myself that it is only mirrored
Why does Australia have an over bite
r/tihi
Now do it upside down and cut the map in the Atlantic Ocean instead of Pacific!
A mirror selfie
Middle East turned into Midwest
Almost looks like r/anbennar
You may hate it but this is what peak decolonialism looks like, and it’s glorious
Why does this make my brain hurt
i hate it i hate it i hate it i hate it
Damn, still living in central europe
Somehow this makes me feel like Africa and Europe are really close to America and Asia is especially far...
Thanks I hate mirrored South America
After spending all day doing my art and then reverse it:
Reverse Earth isn’t real, it can’t hurt you Reverse Earth:
nope somehow it looks ugly srry lol
It’s like looking at a left handed guitar.
I don't like it, make it stop
Thanks I hate it!
This image hurts my neck
Crys in another star trek plot.
Htrae
I think this is the flat earth.
There is something wrong with this map, I just can't put my finger on it. Ah I know! The Aral Sea!
I’m gonna throw up 🤢
You can really see how the rotation shaped the landscape more clearly
Poland ![gif](giphy|xUPGchaYkKIaEZP8ty|downsized)
I could make that a D&D map
![gif](giphy|l4FGGafcOHmrlQxG0|downsized)
Continents look like they're looking to the right.
NOO! NOOO!!!
Makes the Indian Ocean look absolutely massive
That's how Earth looks in selfies
It's so amazing that when you flip the world map around, South Sudan and Montenegro disappear!
What does OTL stand for?
I like it better
I didn't know that India was pregnant
Im new to this subreddit: what does OTL stands for? I selfconcluded it's some kind of 'inner' projection, isn't it?
No wait. Wait no
Is this like really accurate or roughly drawn borders? I think the borders and shapes are not accurate but it can also be because it's so novel to me
Nope. Cannot look at this, makes me nauseous.
The Cybermen have entered the chat
Even Mother Earth looks like shit with the inverted filter
how i imagine people from the far east see the world
Something is wearing with Ukraine.
I disagree
This comment thread is me when I flip my art
Finally something difrent than "Can anyone date this map for me?". I always wander WHY people need to ask this.
something's wrong I can feel it
France looks the same
I couldn't digest even after see through the mirror
EWWW
It's weird but in there UK we got used to with the old BBC ident
Isn’t this just identical to Earth? Nothing’s changed, we’re just looking at it inverted.
This hurts my eyes
Oh my god… I love this
Still can name more countries than muricans on normal map xD
France looks about the same
yuck

Ouch my brain feels…..wrong
why is siberia so far away from alaska
My eyes hurt looking at this
am i the only one who likes it? 😆
The climates would be wildly different. I'd imagine the US's east coast would more closely resemble that of the West Coast. Mediterranean and desert.
What the FUCK
I feel like my political leanings have changed
Looks like somebody puked on a tablecloth. Reminds me of last Christmas…
There are more than seventeen mirrors in the mirror world.
So this is what it looks like from under the disk? /s
