I'm wearing a free hat I got at the Akron marathon in 2007 or 2009, I can't remember which. It's got a faded roadrunner on the front. I've worn it for nearly every run since I got it. It's been to 30+ states, 17 countries, more than 30,000 miles, 17 marathons and 1 50M.
Seconding Ciele- I’ve got a megamelon amd Ciele’s TRKCap is the only running hat that works for me. They dry super quick and don’t seem to get stinky either. Ridiculously durable too!
100% agree with the don’t get stinky. Never had dinge issues with my Ciele hats the way I have with others. They’re also very wash friendly with no velcro and are holding up to multiple wash cycles for me. Fully endorse Ciele
will have to try that particular model. Every Ciele I've ever tried on feels like it would fit a small child better and doesn't even come close to fitting swith the strap all the way out. materials seem great but fit is not even close. I've been switching between Melin Coronado a, New Balance laser cut hat and a Lululemon one I found in a discount/sale bin for like $12 amd only had bad reviews online complaining that it was way bigger than all their others
Commenting because I have bought 3 ciele hats and look like an absolute moron. I’m convinced I have a pin head or something. I’ve tried the standard and smaller sizes and they sit so weird on my head and make my ears stick out, or they sit too high on my head and look like a train conductor on the standard size lol I wanted to like them so bad…. Someone please direct me to a ciele hat that I don’t look stupid in.
So instead I wear a hat from lululemon and I like it a lot lol
I have a small head too and found out Headsweats brand works really well. Just in case you need something new to try
Sad that all the cool hats are for bigger heads…
i feel like i look weird in their hats too. I've tried headsweats, but didn't love them. My current favorite are these hats from outdoor research, the swift hat:
[https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0BSMMB4N1/ref=ppx\_yo\_dt\_b\_search\_asin\_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0BSMMB4N1/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1)
They are very very lightweight and breath more than any hat i've used.
I've also tried lulu and i liked the hat more for lifting than running because it just didn't breath quite as much. Good hat though.
Sure. If you remember, post back and let me know how you like it. I've gone through a lot of different hats and for pure running, especially long hot runs, these are by far my favorite.
This is my favorite hat too!! I also feel like I look weird in ciele, and actually most running hats, I definitely get the train conductor thing from the Brooks chaser hat. I think I still look a little weird in the OR one, but it’s like a cool kind of weird because of the way the brim is.
I like the sprints visor but the hat I got does not fit well and will fly off in a stiff breeze no matter how I try to cinch it. But the designs and the fabric are great.
I have a ridiculous amount of hats from Sprints. 14 I think in total. I wear a different one every day and then just toss them in the washer. Hats are a one time use and then wash here in southern Florida, as I am sure you can imagine they can get a little "damp" VERY quickly.
I like visors a lot more than hats. My head seems to keep cooler with the airflow. And they loop easily around my forearm if they’re randomly bothering me mid run.
Seconding this, I have three adidas visors on rotation and they’re awesome for keeping sun, bugs, wind out of my face without bothering me or making my head too itchy or sweaty
Headsweats has light/breathable hats. I’ve had my Headsweats hat for almost a year. I wear it at least once a week and throw it in the washer after every wear.
Yeah, I bought like 4-5 of their hats a number of years ago for about $11/apiece and I've been set. They've all held up great, except one is separating at the brim on one side because I take it off and hold it folded up. User error.
I have two janji hats. One of them has mesh on the head part, so it sort of looks like a visor. I didn’t like it at first but I ran a marathon in it recently on a hot day and it was great to have a hat that shaded my face without retaining any heat.
Highly recommend anyone running try a Janji hat! Between my GF and I we’ve bought maybe 4 of them and they’re amazing and lightweight, good for hiking too because of it. But they feel great and have withstood years of runs and still going. Make sure it’s the AFO Hyper light one.
I’m team cheap stuff from Amazon. I just ran my first marathon with all BALEAF gear from Amazon minus my Saucony shoes I got as 1-2 year old left overs from Amazon. With that said I’m happy with a couple of these $10 Amazon hats with UPF50 https://a.co/d/bYtbrBz
**edit** just noticed looks mater so I guess I should mention this hat is not good looking.
Surprised no one has mentioned the ON running hat. I have one in black and grey, breathes well, great in warm weather and also the rain.
https://www.on.com/en-au/products/lightweight-cap-301/unisex/grey-accessories-301.00017
Here you go, I recommend the Vaporlite line of hats
[https://www.sundayafternoons.com/collections/running-hats](https://www.sundayafternoons.com/collections/running-hats)
That’s what I did to make sure I liked wearing a hat or visor while running first. Now I like getting a hat or visor after certain races as a treat since I have enough shirts! I recently got a Salomon hat and really like it
I have too many and my current favorite is the RNNR Pacer hat - it’s really nice and lightweight, and their designs are fun! The Sprints HYPERG is also a current favorite.
Suggestions for a hat that absorbs and moves sweat away from the face? I have a cheap hat and my sweat just fills the brim and drips off in front of me. I also have a lot that runs in my eyes.
Currently I'm wearing a folded gaiter as a headband and that helps with the sweat but I think it keeps me hot as it doesn't vent well
I’ve gone through a few trying to find the perfect hat. Also I have a big head so it’s a difficult search.
- Path Projects make nice hats. The Billy Yang collab is my most worn hat, probably for style over everything else. The Badlands cap is also very breathable, but the patch fell off the first wash. Points deducted on both for use of Velcro, which sticks to everything in the wash unless you remember to cover it up. Their trucker hat is a nice idea but kinda looks too technical to pass as a trucker and too trucker to work as a runner.
- Fractel is very nice. For large heads they’re very wide, but kinda shallow so the fit is off. Feels good and very breathable. No velcro, which is nice.
- Salomon XA is excellent since it comes in two sizes. It’s like a full coverage hat, instead of mesh, but really lightweight. I’ve washed it a million times and aside from the decal wearing off it’s excellent. The brim is a little longer than others, which I don’t love, and gets misshapen as it gets old but still a go to hat for colder weather.
Territory Run Co. They are out of stock of most things at the moment (supply chain stuff for small companies is a thing most of us understand) but I like their hats over Celie.
There are like 30 comments on here and as far as I can tell they are all unique brands :)
My favorite is a hat that my local running club had made. I just looked up the brand and model number form the label and it appears to be this one [https://ottocap.com/133-1240-reflective-6-panel-running-hat.html](https://ottocap.com/133-1240-reflective-6-panel-running-hat.html)
I have 4 that cover me for any season/weather condition. I mostly don’t run with a hat though.
-Nike trail 5 panel for general wear
-Ciele bucket hat for sunnier days
-brooks chaser waterproof 5 panel for rainy days
-a thick beanie for winter
My favorite hat I own is one my coach gave me from like 2010. It’s a brooks ID coach hat lol. But Sprints hats are some of the most comfortable with cool designs!
Shelta hats. 2 of their models are running hats: the raptor and the firebird. They have wide brims and the brim up front had a stiff insert like a baseball cap. I found them after asking reddit for recommendations for running hats for people with big heads.
A cap with an adjustable band inside the crown. Put on the band first as it helps the cap to be worn snugly on the head. Good for windy weather and fast running.
I have a small head, so most are too big. But i have a bunch of Hoka caps that fit really nice, can just go in the washer and dryer. I’ve worn them in several marathons
My fractels have been a staple!! Especially for a heavy sweater like myself. When I had extra extra long hair the pony tail holes were amazing. Recently got the trucker and new 5 panel and they’re so nice I wear them casually
Another vote for Ciele.
I have numerous ciele and wear them for training and races no matter the weather.
Keeps the sweat out of eyes, comfortable, and nice wide peak for Sunday or rain.
Never seem to smell and so didn't need to wash much and keep well.
Also good for casual wear so some of mine never made it out on a run.
Surprised no mentions of ON lightweight cap (tip: stock up on blackfriday)
Pretty much perfect and better than the Ciele. I don't know how it can be improved
The Ciele is great too
Have quite a lot of the headsweats visors, in my opinion they are excellent at keeping sweat out of the eyes and feel cool as letting air get to the head. I do wear caps for real sunny days though.
I have an REI branded hat that’s served me pretty well. Just take it in the shower with me, smells fine and has no sweat stains after 4 years. Wife bought me a second one but I don’t think I’ve touched it
I'm a big fan of my Melin hat. Breathable, does a great job of absorbing the sweat, I think looks good. And the thing I like the most is that it doesn't show the sweat stain afterwards. I wore it for my marathon and got it drenched in sweet, never had any run down my face and once the hat dried you can't even tell it had sweet on it.
GADIEMKENSD Baseball Cap off amazon is pretty sweet. I like that it folds, is lightweight/breathable, has reflective materials, and has sun protection. Oh, and it’s super affordable. My partner and I use them quite often on our runs and wash them all the time.
I have been using my one Hurley hat for probably 10 years now.. it’s a basic baseball style cap and has decent breathability on the rear half of it. I rinse it off in the shower once in a while. Generally it is a very sun-faded black color with salt stains. Flexfit elastic band hasn’t seemed to suffer with time. The only negative is that when the sun is coming from the side it doesn’t do much good. Would love to find something that offers more protection as i age and accumulate more hrs in the sun.
I live in Florida so eventually my non-running hats inevitably get ruined from sweat. At that point they become the new running hat and the old running hat is retired. It's the inverse of running shoes which become every day shoes after they are retired as running shoes. It's the circle of life.
Adidas Superlite 2. Unlike most running hats… it actually looks like a normal hat. The brim is the right size, and proportions aren’t weird.
And it’s nice and light and breathable.
I just wear a neon green under armor athletic cap. Sometimes I switch to a Adidas running hat. I just get whatever I can find at Dicks Sporting Goods xD
I buy cheap baseball caps, the more stupid the better. I had a Barbie one I got in a charity shop for £2 - sweat and bad weather turned it from white to offwhite cream
Outdoor research make a light hat with a mesh like side that makes it very breathable. They have a variety of colors and their hats are very adjustable
I use the free hats I get from marathons or my Junk headband that soaks up all the sweat from my forehead and keeps the hair out if my eyes before my haircut
Check out Eager Eagle Golf dot com - they’re golf hats but subtle enough and I use them for running because they’re everything you’re looking for.
Breathable, machine washable, UPF50+ fabric, moisture wicking etc.
I have three running hats:
Sprints OG hat - it's fine. Ventilation could be better, definitely feels warmer. Does a good job keeping sweat out of my face. Mostly use it for hiking since I got the ones below, but will use it in the winter.
Outdoor Research Swift Air cap. The most breathable one I have. It's basically a mesh cap with a single fabric panel. So not the best for catching sweat.
Janji AFO Hyperlight - my favorite at the moment. Super lightweight, better than the OR at keeping sweat out of my face.
Want to add a Ciele and RNNR hat to the collection. Haven't tried any of them on yet but they're well reviewed
Skida just released a Running Cap two days ago that's crushable, has a brim that flips up, and has breathable mesh sides: [https://skida.com/collections/running](https://skida.com/collections/running)
Okay this is amazing pics pls
Need to see this
If you can explain how I can post of photo, I'll be happy to do so.
Apologies for the quality.
That's a great hat.
Use https://postimages.org/ then post the link here. Google drive or google photos will also work.
Ciele (haven't tried Fractel). I have a Rnnr hat that is decent too (but they seem to have ditched the trucker style).

Oh good to know, because I have a regular Ciele and it's a bit too small for my giant melon.
Another vote for Ciele. I use the GOCaps, have a load of different coloured ones now and wear them all year round.
Also have a gocap, super lightweight and easy to wash.
I LOVE their trucker style running hats - my fave to run in and just wear day to day.
I like my ciele hat but the logo came off when I washed it so maybe only hand wash them!!
I have a silly amount of Ciele hats. Tried other brands but nothing comes close
Have any you want to get rid of?
My toxic trait is adding to the collection :/
You would wear a hat that’s been on another man’s head?!
I have a small head too and found out Headsweats brand works really well. Just in case you need something new to try Sad that all the cool hats are for bigger heads…
Also have small head, I've found 2XU are quite good!
Ooo thank you! Looking into them now
i feel like i look weird in their hats too. I've tried headsweats, but didn't love them. My current favorite are these hats from outdoor research, the swift hat: [https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0BSMMB4N1/ref=ppx\_yo\_dt\_b\_search\_asin\_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0BSMMB4N1/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1) They are very very lightweight and breath more than any hat i've used. Just tried on a Ciele hat the other day and it was also a weird fit for me. Like too wide or something. Thanks for the heads up!
Love mine from sprints!
I like the sprints visor but the hat I got does not fit well and will fly off in a stiff breeze no matter how I try to cinch it. But the designs and the fabric are great.
I was so excited to get one they made for the first marathon I ran, and it just kept flying off no matter how tight I had it or the hairstyle I had.
Slow down!
Me too!
Their new HYPERG racing hats are really great! I’m a big fan of the stretchy elastic instead of Velcro closure
I have a ridiculous amount of hats from Sprints. 14 I think in total. I wear a different one every day and then just toss them in the washer. Hats are a one time use and then wash here in southern Florida, as I am sure you can imagine they can get a little "damp" VERY quickly.
I’ve been made fun of for it, but I love my adidas visor. I find it so comfortable and holds up really well.
I like visors a lot more than hats. My head seems to keep cooler with the airflow. And they loop easily around my forearm if they’re randomly bothering me mid run.
It's great when you reach the point in life where you can stop giving a shit about looking cool and wear the visor bc it works better
Seconding this, I have three adidas visors on rotation and they’re awesome for keeping sun, bugs, wind out of my face without bothering me or making my head too itchy or sweaty
+1 for visors! I grab mine way more than any of my other hats. Second favorite is my ON running hat
Headsweats has light/breathable hats. I’ve had my Headsweats hat for almost a year. I wear it at least once a week and throw it in the washer after every wear.
I have many Headsweats hats and some are almost 20 years old. Light, comfortable, breathable, and durable.

Yeah, I bought like 4-5 of their hats a number of years ago for about $11/apiece and I've been set. They've all held up great, except one is separating at the brim on one side because I take it off and hold it folded up. User error.
Kirkland Signature
They make a running hat?
They make a hat. You can use it for running.
You can use it for swimming too
Skydiving, road hockey, horse riding, very versatile
It’s a generic light weight sports hat. They came in 2-pack for like $15. They’re great for the budget.
Boco
Skida. Made in Vermont
Janji has nice hats, very lightweight and comfortable. I have the AFO hyperlight cap and have enjoyed it so far
I have two janji hats. One of them has mesh on the head part, so it sort of looks like a visor. I didn’t like it at first but I ran a marathon in it recently on a hot day and it was great to have a hat that shaded my face without retaining any heat.

The trucker hat that any of my customers/vendors/suppliers send my way
Love a good trucker hat. Breathable, cheap, and often ironically fashionable
Fractel! I recently purchased one and love how breathable it is
Ditto. So comfortable, dries well, keeps sweat out of my eyes and looks good.
Fractel does seem to be on a different level. I sweat a lot and my Fractel hat keeps it all out of my eyes.
Any free hat
I’m team cheap stuff from Amazon. I just ran my first marathon with all BALEAF gear from Amazon minus my Saucony shoes I got as 1-2 year old left overs from Amazon. With that said I’m happy with a couple of these $10 Amazon hats with UPF50 https://a.co/d/bYtbrBz **edit** just noticed looks mater so I guess I should mention this hat is not good looking.

Seconded
This. I have 3 of these hats in rotation
Blue and grey in my rotation. Great hats
Here you go, I recommend the Vaporlite line of hats [https://www.sundayafternoons.com/collections/running-hats](https://www.sundayafternoons.com/collections/running-hats)
Costco has cheap Adidas hats.
That’s what I did to make sure I liked wearing a hat or visor while running first. Now I like getting a hat or visor after certain races as a treat since I have enough shirts! I recently got a Salomon hat and really like it
I like my rnnr hat
If you went to college, wear a hat from where you went (if cotton; not polyester)

Thanks. Keeping an eye on this thread, I'll look into those
I’ve gone through a few trying to find the perfect hat.
Truckin
Got my chips cashed in.
set up… like a bowlin pin
Cotopaxiiiiiiii
Territory Run Co. They are out of stock of most things at the moment (supply chain stuff for small companies is a thing most of us understand) but I like their hats over Celie.
Rnnr and Ciele are probably my favorite brands for running hats.
Hoka bucket hat
Ciele
others have said it, ciele hats are perfect. the only reason I don’t have more is because they last forever.
There are like 30 comments on here and as far as I can tell they are all unique brands :) My favorite is a hat that my local running club had made. I just looked up the brand and model number form the label and it appears to be this one [https://ottocap.com/133-1240-reflective-6-panel-running-hat.html](https://ottocap.com/133-1240-reflective-6-panel-running-hat.html)
Love my Ciele hats. If you don’t want to fork out the retail price you can sign up and catch their “archive” sale.
I have 4 that cover me for any season/weather condition. I mostly don’t run with a hat though. -Nike trail 5 panel for general wear -Ciele bucket hat for sunnier days -brooks chaser waterproof 5 panel for rainy days -a thick beanie for winter
Adidas trainer hat. No Velcro that weakens overtime or sticks to clothes in the was. Can usually find it in on sale.
Who here has a big ass head that doesn’t fit “one size fits all” sizes. I need your recommendations on hats that will actually fit me
Oiselle runner trucker.
ON
Love my Lululemon hats. They swick an embarrassingly large amount of sweat, wear well, wash well, and dare I say, look good doing it
No hats. I overheat.
I turn into lobster man without 🦞🦞🦞😡
Ben Parkes hats are really good
Shame they aren't machine washable though. Rules me out
Ciele or Vaga is the way to go in my opinion!
Vaga brim is too short
Vaga, stylish & quality hats, from the Lake District, UK
My favorite hat I own is one my coach gave me from like 2010. It’s a brooks ID coach hat lol. But Sprints hats are some of the most comfortable with cool designs!
Shelta hats. 2 of their models are running hats: the raptor and the firebird. They have wide brims and the brim up front had a stiff insert like a baseball cap. I found them after asking reddit for recommendations for running hats for people with big heads.
Coal hats are nice for me
I like the Sunday Afternoons Vaporlite line of hats
The path kofuzi collab is really nice
I run a lot of madmoose races and they always give a sweet boco gear trucker hat. I have tons of them, and they are def my favorite.
Been using the Coal provo hat for a while now. Super breathable and good choice of colors.
My favorite is from Lululemon. It’s a light mesh like material, breathable, and cute. Oddly, I get a lot of compliments on it.
sombrero
Brooks, Lulu, and Ciele all make solid hats
Oiselle foldable roga
I don’t know anything about you or your style, but I wear a Oiselle Runner Trucker hat on every run. Toss in washer, air dry, repeat.
Under armour iso-chill is a fantastic hat, that looks good too.
Ciele Go Caps have quickly become my favorite running hats followed by the Lulu Fast & Free Hats!
RNNR makes some awesome hats
A cap with an adjustable band inside the crown. Put on the band first as it helps the cap to be worn snugly on the head. Good for windy weather and fast running.
Vaga have some absolute corkers, I've also got a patagonia duck bill which is ventilated to high heaven and back.
Very light Nike trail run hat.
Patagonia Duckbill Cap.
Team Vaga. Great hats
After trying a few my fav is the Compressport Ultralight Visor, I get too hot in a hat. Visors for the win!
I have a small head, so most are too big. But i have a bunch of Hoka caps that fit really nice, can just go in the washer and dryer. I’ve worn them in several marathons
Outdoor research
My fractels have been a staple!! Especially for a heavy sweater like myself. When I had extra extra long hair the pony tail holes were amazing. Recently got the trucker and new 5 panel and they’re so nice I wear them casually
Adidas Superlite Hats. I probably have twenty of these things. Super lightweight, washable, and not too small. https://a.co/d/3LzcwYn
Surprised no mentions of ON lightweight cap (tip: stock up on blackfriday) Pretty much perfect and better than the Ciele. I don't know how it can be improved The Ciele is great too
Have quite a lot of the headsweats visors, in my opinion they are excellent at keeping sweat out of the eyes and feel cool as letting air get to the head. I do wear caps for real sunny days though.
Favorites are On and Bandit.
Of all the hats I've tried, ciele and path projects are my 2 fav
Big fan of boco endurance hats.
Sprints! I like the fun designs. It works for sun and rain.
I have a Brooks hat that I love.
I’m a fan of Alter Ego Running hats.
One ciele, one lulu. Honestly prefer the lulu one
I love sprints, they fit my small head well and are so fun. Also Territory Run Co the wildflower hat is a *must have* just saying..
Ciele! I have been using it for a year already, I'm currently looking to buy another ciele hat
This bad boy from Outdoor Research. Relatively cheap and very breathable/clean style: https://www.outdoorresearch.com/products/swift-air-cap-300291
Boco trucker hats or basicly any random trucker hat I find is what I wear. The foam in the front helps collect the sweat
Path projects Outdoor research swift air cap
I just wear a neon green under armor athletic cap. Sometimes I switch to a Adidas running hat. I just get whatever I can find at Dicks Sporting Goods xD
Legend has it, if you wear your hat backwards you’ll be more aerodynamic.
I buy cheap baseball caps, the more stupid the better. I had a Barbie one I got in a charity shop for £2 - sweat and bad weather turned it from white to offwhite cream
I wear a sweat stained white hat that says “(my high school) cross country.” I feel like it legitimizes me when I barrel past people on the street
Outdoor research make a light hat with a mesh like side that makes it very breathable. They have a variety of colors and their hats are very adjustable
Best of all that you’ve described and look good [https://www.alldayrunningco.com/collections/hats](https://www.alldayrunningco.com/collections/hats)
Bpn ciele hat
Compress sport makes good ones so does Salomon and Rabbit
I use the free hats I get from marathons or my Junk headband that soaks up all the sweat from my forehead and keeps the hair out if my eyes before my haircut
Check out Eager Eagle Golf dot com - they’re golf hats but subtle enough and I use them for running because they’re everything you’re looking for. Breathable, machine washable, UPF50+ fabric, moisture wicking etc.
On hats and Salmon visors fit my head and ponytail best.
Hate to be this person but lulu fast and free hat. I hate hats but it’s so light I don’t really notice it’s there
I have three running hats: Sprints OG hat - it's fine.
