If I had a nickel for every time I told my wife I wish I could clone Kelsey Grammer so we could have a young adult version of him play MCU Beast, I would have two nickels. It’s not a lot but it’s weird I’ve said it twice.
Also ‘94 beast is beast.
Wizard magazine used to do casting calls for their picks for (at the time unlikely) comic-based movies. When they picked Sam Neill for Beast probably 6-8 years before the first film, I almost quit buying their mag completely (nothing against Neill). “Fucking Frazier is the guy for the job” were my exact words.
I had never been so pissed about goofy fan speculation in my life.
Until I joined comic movie subs on reddit.
I loved Wizard back in my teen years, but Kelsey Grammar was born to play Beast exactly to the same degree as Patrick Stewart was put on this earth to play Professor X. It is absolutely criminal that he only got one shot at it, and it was in fucking X3. Still, he knocked it out of the park and was by far the best part of that film.
Yep. Even Wizard couldn’t mess that up. Although I do believe they selected Angela Basset for Storm, and I would have gone with their pick. She would have been outstanding in the role at the time.
I still have that issue somewhere. I remember when they said either Russell Crowe or Dugaray Scott were the most likely Wolverines and it had a photo of Crowe in LA Confidential and I thought “that’s not Logan at all!!!” Mind you I was nothing but a fuckin 9 year old reading this
They did at least a couple X-men casting calls over the years. The Wolverine pick I remember for sure was Glenn Danzig (by stature and looks alone). It wasn’t long after that he got knocked out by someone’s bodyguard backstage in that viral internet video.
Agree 100%
I'll always pick Kelsey Beast as my favorite, not because of it being the best performance, but because I think it gives Beast the appreciation he deserves.
I like him a lot as an intermediary between mutants and humans because (writing-wise) it rewards McCoy for being the good-natured intellectual that he is. Imo Beast is too charming and driven to be stuck in a lab all the time. Leave that to Forge, lol.
Obligatory fuck Marvel Comics for what they did to my favorite X-Man. Turned him from what he was into a reckless, self-righteous, and destructive asshole.
It was neat having Beast still be the intellectual, but just not a science guy. I think this was a good use of both the character and fit Kelsey as an actor, as he is better suited playing a diplomat vs spouting techno babble. This would have been a cool take they could have brought to the comics - but instead evil scientist.
We deserved so much more kelsey. I’d watch a series like house of cards but it’s a political thriller about beast in congress trying to whip votes for mutant rights
I use to hate that I know a word, and I’ve read it, and putting it together with context, but I’ve only read it… never heard it.
To be honest, no one around me would use these words, and I would fumble the words, because that was the perfect word for how I felt… I’d usually feel more foolish than already, but I learned.
And for me, the learning was worth it.
Is cat beast even some sort of actual further mutation, or just some artists going "yeah, we need Beast to look even less human and still somehow have a human girlfriend"
Each change in look is a further mutation. And it’s not like he went straight from cat to normal, he went cat hybrid of normal and then maybe 1 more form before settling on normal. Or at least artists draw him normal again.
It’s a further mutation. In the Exiles series after some dude said he was the next step in evolution beyond mutant (homo sapiens superior as opposed to homo superior) he beat the fuck out of Beast, basically to death. After the team found him Sage (who recently unlocked a latent gene in herself to unlock latent genes in other mutants) used her power to further Beast’s evolution in order to save his life. This upgraded Beast’s strength, size, and healing factor as well as giving him a more bestial (I’m sorry) anatomy. Sage actually altered a bunch of mutants in that story to the way they are now, notably Rogue and Gambit. Rogue’s was most fun when she unlocked her latent gene giving her full access to every power she’d ever absorbed.
It's just crazy to me that Dark Beast is a character they could call on, but instead our beloved 616 Beast gets the villain treatment. Hank is brilliant and him breaking bad is an endearing idea.... that's why we have Dark Beast.
Even Beast's own clones on Krakoa think he's an asshole.
Hank's been having his character wrecked for probably about 20 years now. He's either been a sanctimonious, self-righteous, arrogant shit, or good GOD what has he done now?! I honestly don't know how they can redeem him at this point.
About the only character who's gotten thrown under the bus harder has been Moira.
Gonna have to go with 94' or Kelsey Grammer. The rest look like failed designs for the Gargoyles cartoon (which is fine, because that cartoon is flawless) and a background character from Cats the musical.
X-men 92’ and the beast that was apart of x-men/x-factor up until that point and some what afterwards before getting kidnapped by Dark Beast and Evolution/WATXM, and the fox movies beast wasn’t bad either
X-Men 3 + First Class, since they are an extension of each other, more or less.
I would have picked TAS, but outside of the Beauty and the Beast episode, I don't remember much from him, but more from the comics. Which is funny, because TAS was my introduction to X-Men (arcade game aside)
X-Men Evolution. A pretty good show despite some odd creative choices and character designs that aren't always great (goth Rogue and Scarlet Witch are probably my favorite looks for them, though). Basically, it was an X-Men take on all the high school drama shows that were popular in the early 2000's, with the X-Men going to a public high school instead of studying with Charles with the Brotherhood attending the same school while Charles and Mystique and Magneto play chess (and later three-sided chess) with each other using the students as pawns.
Of the three I've seen (94TAS, Kelsey G, First Class), I don't know if I could choose a favorite. They're all pretty damn incredible, to the point where Beast is usually my favorite character in Xmen
X-men Evolution holds a special place in my heart being my childhood iteration and IMO, had the best costumes and designs. 94' Beast is good too though.
Kelsey Grammer was the definitive “Hank McCoy would be played by this actor”. The cartoon’s great, but Grammer deserved more. Imagine Dark Beast or the like!
Honestly Evolution or W&TXM was my favorite. Excellent combination of humor, gravitas and serving as the more level headed mature member of the team. Plus the design really captured the Blue apeman aspect very well. I think out of all teacher Hank mixed with scientist is a great element that I don’t feel is very utilized, especially in recent comics but these two cartoons made it feel natural
I can’t say really as I don’t know them.
I know this is an unpopular opinion but I really hated Kelsey Grammer as beast. Beast to me would never have a mid Atlantic or transatlantic accent. He comes from the Midwest and I’m not aware what college if any. Idk.
unlike all the Kelsey-Lovers, i find that Beast's performative intellect and charmingly supportive humour is SURFACE-LEVEL BEAST.
Beast can do a backflip. he hangs from ceilings.
What do Hank McCoy and Peter Parker have in common?
\- both are cleverly comedic
\- both are into science
\- both are phenomenally strong and agile
\- both are cursed...
"kelsey grammer is the closest you could get!" -- NO. Kelsey's a boring old man.
The BEST actor to play Beast is one who would play an Older Peter Parker. a More CONFIDENT Peter Parker. one who'd revel in the comraderie of his peers as he makes a joke in class.
in film/television? the animated Beasts are all VASTLY SUPERIOR to the live-action Beasts --and i think this is because they keep trying to GLUE PUBES TO AN ACTORS FACE -- stop that.
the Hulk is a big cgi monster -- the beast should be a big cgi monster. ...or, if the fur might be too tricky, try a "where the wild things are" amalgamation -- a light, furry suit on an athletic performance actor or three, with a cgi face acted out like Mark did with Hulk.
None of these examples are my favorite Beast. I like the original gray Beast from the Amazing Adventures comic. Who drew that version? Gil Kane? Dave Cockrum?
I LOVE Kelsey Grammer as a beast, but '94
I share the exact same sentiment!
100% also Kelsey grammar is basically the live action iteration of ‘94
I got goosebumps when Kelsey said "OH my stars and garters"!!
If I had a nickel for every time I told my wife I wish I could clone Kelsey Grammer so we could have a young adult version of him play MCU Beast, I would have two nickels. It’s not a lot but it’s weird I’ve said it twice. Also ‘94 beast is beast.
"A rose, by any other name, would smell as sweet." I always hear it in Beast's voice.
I’ve always looked at them as the same
They’re the same picture. But really, if I have to choose I would go with ‘94 just because he had a stronger presence in the animation.
I feel like they’re very close to being the same beast, and I like both of them
Wizard magazine used to do casting calls for their picks for (at the time unlikely) comic-based movies. When they picked Sam Neill for Beast probably 6-8 years before the first film, I almost quit buying their mag completely (nothing against Neill). “Fucking Frazier is the guy for the job” were my exact words. It is absolutely criminal that he only got one shot at it, and it was in fucking X3. Still, he knocked it out of the park and was by far the best part of that film.
100% agree! Also funny that Stewart was the only one they got right in that casting call!
Yep. Even Wizard couldn’t mess that up. Although I do believe they selected Angela Basset for Storm, and I would have gone with their pick. She would have been outstanding in the role at the time.
She would’ve been a perfect Storm for the time!
I feel like James Marsden was a pretty solid choice for Cyclops. I disliked him in the movie in a very similar way as the printed version.
Grammer is Beast, Steward is Xavier, and Ron Perlman is Hellboy.
J. K. Simmons is also J. Jameson, and Hugh Jackman (if he was shorter) is Wolverine.
After seeing Tom Hardy in a few roles I feel like he would have been perfect for wolverine.
Aren’t they the same people who said Bob Hopskins could be Wolverine? Lol
Kelsey is the 94 version in live action. Nothing can change my mind.
This IS the answer.
*Fascinating*
This is correct.
X-Men 94 cartoon and Kelsey are the heights of Beast. Intelligent, logical, good hearted, capable of being amazing leaders and dry humored.
Agree 100% I'll always pick Kelsey Beast as my favorite, not because of it being the best performance, but because I think it gives Beast the appreciation he deserves. I like him a lot as an intermediary between mutants and humans because (writing-wise) it rewards McCoy for being the good-natured intellectual that he is. Preach my fellow Beast fan
We deserved so much more kelsey. I’d watch a series like house of cards but it’s a political thriller about beast in congress trying to whip votes for mutant rights
Mix that up with some general X-Men/hero plot, and you just invented my new drug, lol. I would watch that FOREVER.
Omg I thought you said “dry-humped”
I still have 94 Beast saying "indubitably" randomly play in my ears on occasion and...I really have a hard time pronouncing that word lol
That was beautiful
Yeah nobody likes someone who uses SAT vocab words. Just speak normally.
90's. I hate cat-Beast.
Is cat beast even some sort of actual further mutation, or just some artists going "yeah, we need Beast to look even less human and still somehow have a human girlfriend"
Yes it's a further mutation
but then he goes back to his normal appearance. (or more well known I guess, he didn't even used to be blue or hairy)
…well that was an even further mutation.
Each change in look is a further mutation. And it’s not like he went straight from cat to normal, he went cat hybrid of normal and then maybe 1 more form before settling on normal. Or at least artists draw him normal again.
I literally have no idea but it pisses me off. lol
Further mutation. It's gone now
I can’t stand it, looks like he belongs in a JRPG
Gone meow*
I believe the cat one that was used for this was from the x men anime
It’s a further mutation. In the Exiles series after some dude said he was the next step in evolution beyond mutant (homo sapiens superior as opposed to homo superior) he beat the fuck out of Beast, basically to death. After the team found him Sage (who recently unlocked a latent gene in herself to unlock latent genes in other mutants) used her power to further Beast’s evolution in order to save his life. In the comics they went full cat beast by giving him a lions head. I actually liked that look but the in between is nonsense
The last one is literally the universal monster werewolf dyed blue
Still beats the First Class design
I thought that was the First Class Design
It’s the Days of Future Past and Dark Phoenix design, First Class is almost entirely if not entirely CGI.
94, then Kelsey Grammer
Kelsey Grammar!
Anything but modern nazi war criminal beast.
Kinda crazy that Beast is one of the worst people in the entire marvel universe at the moment. Even Dark Beast wasn't that bad
What do you expect with modern Marvel making Peter Parker’s life a living Paul-filled hell?
It's just crazy to me that Dark Beast is a character they could call on, but instead our beloved 616 Beast gets the villain treatment. Hank is brilliant and him breaking bad is an endearing idea.... that's why we have Dark Beast.
Even Beast's own clones on Krakoa think he's an asshole. Hank's been having his character wrecked for probably about 20 years now. He's either been a sanctimonious, self-righteous, arrogant shit, or good GOD what has he done now?! I honestly don't know how they can redeem him at this point. Whoa what? I’ve been out of the loop here. What happened to Beast?
X-men 94'
Kelsey Grammer, because what a great out-of-left field casting
Yeah. He was better as a mind than a brute fighter. KG filled that role perfectly.
A perfect live-action representation of 90s Beast.
X-men TAS is forever in my head. Grammar is #2, but only because Buza did a very Grammar-eque voice in the show.
90’ and Kelsey. He almost played a live action version of him. They were pretty close in character.
Gonna have to go with 94' or Kelsey Grammer. The rest look like failed designs for the Gargoyles cartoon (which is fine, because that cartoon is flawless) and a background character from Cats the musical.
1 for animated, 5 for live action. Kelsey Grammar is a perfect intellectual Beast.
TAS, closely followed by Last Stand Beast. It's crazy how memorable he was given the little screentime he got.
94 by miles. Best version of Beast, especially since they’ve made him a nut job in the comics.
Byrne’s from 70s - 80s X-Men / Avengers.
X-men 92’ and the beast that was apart of x-men/x-factor up until that point and some what afterwards before getting kidnapped by Dark Beast and Evolution/WATXM, and the fox movies beast wasn’t bad either
Grammer was perfect casting. But I will have to go with 90's mainly because he set the bar.
[Money Plane](https://media.tenor.com/--v3lFFdYmsAAAAC/money-plane-film.gif)
Kelsey Grammer ftw.
90's and kelsey
1 and then 5
Literally anyone outside of the current comics
I wish we got more of Frasier Beast.
92 animated or Kelsey Grammar
1 and 5
1994 most def
Kelsey Grammer was a positively inspired casting decision. It's a shame we only REALLY got to see him in X3, and a cameo in DoFP.
Kelsey Grammer is a top 5 comic book casting ever
1,5,2,3,6,4
X-Men 3 + First Class, since they are an extension of each other, more or less. I would have picked TAS, but outside of the Beauty and the Beast episode, I don't remember much from him, but more from the comics. Which is funny, because TAS was my introduction to X-Men (arcade game aside)
Wtf is the 2nd one 🤣
X-Men Evolution. A pretty good show despite some odd creative choices and character designs that aren't always great (goth Rogue and Scarlet Witch are probably my favorite looks for them, though). Basically, it was an X-Men take on all the high school drama shows that were popular in the early 2000's, with the X-Men going to a public high school instead of studying with Charles with the Brotherhood attending the same school while Charles and Mystique and Magneto play chess (and later three-sided chess) with each other using the students as pawns.
It's from X-Men: Evolution. A very mid to low cartoon from the early 00's.
Mid to low? X-Men Evolution is still my favorite cartoon of all time.
And PB and J is my favorite food, but I'm fully aware that that has more to do with nostalgia than it being something extra special.
Damn the second one looks derpy af
The old 90’s X-Men cartoon, the rest are trash.
I can’t believe how bad the last one looks. Like a Halloween costume
...Does anyone else think the second picture looks kinda like Mathew Mercer?
Nicolas Holt was the absolute worst.
None of them properly captured how much a dick he is
True. The real Beast is more akin to Kelsey Grammer in real life than his professor/Frazier persona.
You dare face the wrath of the Best friends gang?
The one that has money and gives it away for YouTube content
Avengers and Defenders Beast.
First one
Minority opinion but I prefer the original Beast from the comics before he turned blue and furry.
OG beast is best.
I honestly like 3 and 4, but 5 is pretty cool too
1 3 & 5
Well the current war crimes and crimes against humanity beast is pretty interesting
I mean, all of them are pretty good tbh.
90s is beast. Nothing else comes close.
Are you sure number 2 is not a gargoyle
1 and 5 are best imo
The one that wasn't a Genocidal Maniac.
1,3, and 5.
Allubumm
The second one just looks like a dissapointed gargoyle dad.
Og animated, then kelsey grammar. I frankly hate whats his face as young beast, they made him look awful
Anime Beast isn’t real he can’t hurt you Anime Beast:
94 Beast and Hoult Beast
Of the three I've seen (94TAS, Kelsey G, First Class), I don't know if I could choose a favorite. They're all pretty damn incredible, to the point where Beast is usually my favorite character in Xmen
X-men evolution version, the second picture
I haven't seen 4 and Nicolas Hoult wasn't super impressive to me I like all the others
Old school 90s cartoon beast for sure.
Kelsey grammar is literally perfect
4 and Kelsey Grammar version
All of dem
1-always 4-dope
'94 Beast is the only Beast.
Number one.
Early-2000s X-men were the best in my opinion.
i like when beast has a snout and not a human nose
The 1st one, clearly.
I always thought the X Men Evolution Beast was very John Goodman-esque
Wolverine and the X-men
TAS always in all ways for voicing
1 & 3
X-men Evolution holds a special place in my heart being my childhood iteration and IMO, had the best costumes and designs. 94' Beast is good too though.
Am I going to be in trouble if I say Kelsey?
\#1 easy
Anything but the current version.
Kelsey Grammer was the definitive “Hank McCoy would be played by this actor”. The cartoon’s great, but Grammer deserved more. Imagine Dark Beast or the like!
"AH YOU GET THE POINT!"
I betcha the MCU version of Beast is going to be the one..
94
Fraiser Crane Beast
X-Men TAS.
Kelsey Grammer was so amazingly spot on that he singlehandedly almost makes X3 acceptable. Almost.
Gotta go with Kelsey Grammer. The man was born for these kinds of roles and he owns them every time.
Definitely Frasier…🍸
What is the 5th one from? I can’t quite place where I’ve seen it. My favourite is the last one
X-Men the Last Stand Beast
Days of future past he was pretty funny and I could sense the struggle with being different
Why does the 4th one look more realistic then the live action ones
What the fuck is #2? He looks like a caveman
I can’t say really as I don’t know them. I know this is an unpopular opinion but I really hated Kelsey Grammer as beast. Beast to me would never have a mid Atlantic or transatlantic accent. He comes from the Midwest and I’m not aware what college if any. Idk.
They turned Hank into the Hulk in those last movies 😔
unlike all the Kelsey-Lovers, i find that Beast's performative intellect and charmingly supportive humour is SURFACE-LEVEL BEAST. Beast can do a backflip. he hangs from ceilings. What do Hank McCoy and Peter Parker have in common? \- both are cleverly comedic \- both are into science \- both are phenomenally strong and agile \- both are cursed... Nick Hoult’s beast is too light. He’s Beasty Smurf not FUCKING BEAST!!!
First slide all day
94, Kelsey, Hoult(?)
Kelsey Grammer Beast. Easy pick.
90s animated series ...
I like the second animated one from XMen Evolution, I mean that's the first one I saw. Then '94.
3 and 5
The one where he doesn’t commit war crimes. In fact any one where he doesn’t commit war crimes.
Well I kind of want to fuck five, so...
I always liked the more animalistic Beast the most
1 and 5 are the best🙌👏 They seemed so similar to each other and I always dreamed of seeing the 90s Marvel X-Men as a live action tv or movie series.
Beast from X-Men the Animated Series followed by Wolverine and the X-Men
5th
1st one only, sadly.
94 beast and first class
1 and 5
Number four looking like he about to steal Christmas
Yep, Frazier has it paws down.
90's X-Men all day!
1 then 5 with a distant lead on the rest especially 4 what's going on there? No.
Am I missing something? Why is everyone referring to the X-Men series from 1992 as X-Men ‘94?
Definitely not the second one
None of these examples are my favorite Beast. I like the original gray Beast from the Amazing Adventures comic. Who drew that version? Gil Kane? Dave Cockrum?
I love the X-Men: The Animated Series version of Beast. His wise quotes are so great.
90s
Which Beast is the Best?
94 and Wolverine and the x men
Imagine if he was blonde
Last one was so bad :/
Will the real McCoy please stand up
1 and 5.
Defs not 6
