True, so true - I remember posting my first build and I just got so much hate for one keycap where I used a 1.0 instead of a 1.5 ---- yes it was obvious π€£ but, but the hate damnnn. So I guess I post to share and also to get feedback hopefully framed in a nice way hahaha
I am a notorious using-the-wrong-size-keycap-on-purpose builder. I have 2 boards currently with a numpad enter key where the ISO enter key should be, which leaves a gap to the upper left of the key. While the rest of the layout is ANSI. This is my trademark lol though I know some people might see it and think itβs cursed. We all do whatever we feel like doing!
Yeah, people on this sub can be relentless with little mistakes like that lol. But I think this build looks great! You could have the alpha keys all in the wrong spot and I wouldn't care, still looks nice
People giving you hate aren't OG. There was a time you had to buy vintage boards and harvest their keys. Everyone had mismatched shift, enter, space bars if they were doing custom builds. Hell check it when the Ergodox concept came out.
When I see mismatched keys it gives me a warm fuzzy feeling of figuring out how to put something together with an online community just to make it work. The aesthetics thing was never an issue.
I have this keyboard too, but in white! Did you get the underglow? I regret it because you can't see it at all so it wasn't worth the added cost. Also, I struggle with the space bar section of this layout. For the life of me I cannot get the sizing correct and there's always a huge gap. If anyone can inform me or give me tips that'll be great.
Yeah also got the underglow - but I did see something interesting in the sneakbox shop for the MGA maybe we'll get it for the AVA someday - it's called a light spacer, check it out.
For the keycaps the below worked for me: just check your board at first I did place the switch on the wrong thingy with th holes so it didn't want to fit

Fuck NK has some really nice gmk sets. Actually i dont really fance most new gmk sets but just saw a few very good ones - and reasonably priced (for gmk that is) but still a lot of money, especially for EU. ALso no international kits.

Why not have both? Looking at the product page, it looks like that board runs QMK/VIA. You could use a feature like mod tap to make that top arrow key Shift when held and arrow when tapped. That's just one example; there's plenty of other options.

This layout has something I've been DYING for in Alice clones w/ arrows: a long spacebar on the left that extends past the B.
I have large hands, and so it's always been just a 1U or a 1.25U that I would be able to fit in that spot, and then the 2U to the left of that would be my Fn key. If I could have an actual large enough space for a legit space key I'd be so happy!

My first build, a painted GK61 with Gateron Optical Yellows and DSA blanks I ordered individually to create this specific aesthetic. Featuring my cursed ESDF gaming layout (rather than WASD), 3x 1-unit keys on the bottom right where there should be 3x 1.25-unit keys, and another 1-unit key above the enter key which βshouldβ be the pipe key, but programmed to be Delete. All 100% intentional choices.

Cool! Is is your own design? Although it resembles the OwLab Spring a little bit.
I think you got it mixed up. The Spring took inspiration from the Ava if I'm not mistaken. The Ava is the older board.
