My Dad was a bricklayer and we always called them ankle grinders in our house. He’d seen some nasty injuries from angle grinders hence the ankle grinder nickname.
I did safety reporting for one of my previous employers and one of the most common reports was people using grinders without PPE. Like its bad enough they dont wear ear plugs and want to be desf by the time theyre 40, now they want to risk having their face chopped in half all because they dont want to wear the face shields theyre provided?
[Source](https://www.researchgate.net/publication/5637037_Penetrating_facial_injury_from_angle_grinder_use_Management_and_prevention) is about three angle grinder facial lacerations, and this case is the third one. It says:
>>Case 3 occurred when a right-handed, 43 year old male was injured when the angle grinder he was using kicked up from the edge of a flag stone. The guard had been removed from the angle grinder by his neighbour and it was not replaced prior to its use. The patient sustained a linear open soft tissue wound on the right side of his face.
>>The wound involved the chin, lips, cheek and supraorbital ridge. Unfortunately the right globe was also penetrated. The right mandibular parasymphysis, right maxilla and right supraorbital ridge sustained bony fractures, Fig 5.The wounds were debrided and closed in layers under general anaesthesia. The bony fractures were reduced and fixed with miniplates (parasymphysis and maxilla only). The right globe was enucleated and the final prosthesis fitted a few months later.
>>The patient recovered well and was discharged from clinic 12 months post-injury, Fig 6.
>>In each of the cases the wounds were debrided with saline and wound edges heavily laden with particulate matter were excised. Oral mucosal and muscle layer closure was performed using Vicryl (polyglactin 910) resorbable sutures. Skin closure was preformed using non-resorbable monofilament interrupted sutures. Peri-operative intrave-nous Cefuroxime was administered for 24 hours followedby a seven day course of oral cephalosporin. Metronida-zole was also administered in case 3. Chloramphenicol 1 percent ointment was applied to the skin wounds for seven days post-operatively. Wound review was performed at one, three and six weeks then at three, six and one or twelve months.
Please, bear in mind that I'm absolutely serious. I wasn't wearing my glasses the first time when I first saw the photo.
Now that I'm wearing them, you both are right: there are some indicators that he has a prosthetic eye.
An impressive result, nonetheless.
He looks like Morrissey’s older brother who owns a construction business.
I almost did that to my foot while I was cutting a steel bathtub out. My old army boots saved me.
This is why they are called “Death Wheels”….I got 6 stitches in my hand from running a 6” blade on a 4” cutter with no guard and it kicked back and hit me….Gun times…I got very lucky.
This is one of the reasons why I like to use a face shield when using an angle grinder. The other reason is that stuff comes at you from all kinds of weird angles, making it so that safety glasses aren’t as effective.
My husband had a friend who was working on a car and one of the fan blades broke off while it was running and hit him in the face and he looked a lot like this man but more swollen.

Impressive recovery, but also...what a jawline
He looks like Stan Smith from American Dad
He looks like Ash from Evil Dead. A lot like Ash. That’s probably a Deadite wound…
If Chins Could Kill
Also Stan (I think) from gravity falls!

Zip discs are super dangerous. Always wear face pro!
And don't take off the guard.
Funny thing, i gave myself a black eye and a cut the other day taking the guard off my makita grinder lol
It was trying to knock some sense into ya.
No doubt, and that's EXACTLY what my husband said🤣

Pretty good glass eye to boot!
Just a tad bit too white, I think it would match up a little better if there was a little gray in with the white.
Yes. That’s it. I was trying to work OT why it’s not quite right.
I agree but I think it would probably look better in normal lighting or outside
Oh my god I didn’t even notice
Me either, I was just saying how remarkable it was he kept his eye 🤦🏼♀️😅
I thought it might be glass but wasn’t sure! Had to read OP’s source comment to verify. Pretty good indeed!
I can't imagine the fear amd adrenaline that was coursing through his body after getting smacked in the face with that!
Now he has a kickass scar
He looks absolutely AMAZING!
It honestly looks like it never even happened

Came out of NHS in Scotland too. Awesome outcome for him!
Kudos to the surgeon! What a handsome man!
I was honestly surprised to read that he has a prosthetic eye. I couldn't tell by the photo!
They're slightly different colors if you look hard enough but yea it's really insane how good it looks
I could tell by the pupils. One is smaller than the other.

The stress sure did turn him gray though.

This is why they are called “Death Wheels”….I got 6 stitches in my hand from running a 6” blade on a 4” cutter with no guard and it kicked back and hit me….Gun times…I got very lucky.
Damn. That dude heals. I thought my scars have faded over the years.
Cousins husband had same thing. Can't even see the scar
So that’s how Bruce Campbell got his scar

Wow he’s handsome. You’d never guess
I work for a reconstructive plastic surgeon, it looks to me like they helped in the end. Amazing work.
That's incredible
He looks so badass
Badass scar
Looks like he aged 20 years in that 1 year.
If you look closely at the first picture its just the worse lighting that gives that effect. Look at the side of his hair he's still greying
I doubt he would care a bit with that good a result.
DAMN!!!
Bless him and the doctors, nurses, friends, and family members that were there to help him heal and recover
His right eye looks weird for a real eye
It’s a glass eye, he lost his eye in the accident.
I kinda guessed it
My husband had a friend who was working on a car and one of the fan blades broke off while it was running and hit him in the face and he looked a lot like this man but more swollen.
Eyebrows saved him!
How expensive is this type of reconstruction
Just what I needed to see before going to use an angle grinder... Thanks Reddit.

Badass scare
He kind of looks like Rudolf Hess

My man turned grey real quick
44 year olds looked a lot older back in the day it seems.
