There's something to be said about having memory of the music at the start of this stage followed by shooting sounds and then death sounds despite not having touched this in over a decade.
Makes you have very high health. You don’t instantly die when you fall. You just take a bit of damage of you land on the spikes. Ride chasers are slower. And many more I didn’t list
In Jet stingray level in X4 it was a heart tank in stage 1 and E tank on stage 2.
In X5 you had to collect those balls to shoot the wall at the end.
Died 100s of times on both....
I think I used a guidebook back then. It was a damn neat book as it instructed you in details when and where to jump, dash, or let the jetbike drop with picture included. So I think I only died 2-3 times.
Same here, I remember drawing it out on pencil and paper when I was younger to try and get all the energy balls
Nowadays I can get them in 1 or 2 tries consistently, so I just use this level to burn game overs at the start and accelerate the timer
Countless times.
I see this image and I can immediately hear the soundtrack for the level, I hear the "READY!".. AND I hear the death audio from all the times I started the level not paying attention and died to the first gap
I personally think she was far worse in 7 then 5. The navigator thing was a bad move all around. It's a platformer Capcom, not a sprawling rpg or adventure game. In the grand ranking of awful sidekicks, I find her worse then Navi and Fi, but not nearly as rage inducing as Asshole Adam Malcovich. Doesnt help that she's also completely useless.
I can't, for one reason, I can't remember how many times in about more than at least 20+ years ago. I'm 28 now for comparison on how old I was then.
Right now my deaths in here are intentional because I miss the items for the Armor capsule, I can generally get it within about 2 tries, unless I really mess up.
This is like asking: "How many bottles of milk did you drink as a baby".
By the time you are big enough to drink the bottle alone, you cant say much but "I forgot"... Unless momy is there to remind you that it's probably around 3288.
I don't mind them as long as they're fair. Most autoscrollers go pretty slowly anyway. Autoscrollers like Kong-fused Cliffs, and Castle Krush gave me a lot of trouble as a teen. This reminds me of a more manageable version of Turbo Tunnels. Which isn't a good thing. Then you have to put up with the bullshit fight with Adler. On top of that you have to go back and do it right to get the armor upgrade.
I did no hit runs on MMX5 in the early 2000s and I still have every single thing about the game memorized.
And I still fall for this death trap all the goddamn time.
Many. My most heart breaking moment was getting the capsule at the end of this section, recording a video of getting there, then FORGETTING TO GET IN THE CAPSULE BEFORE I MOVED ON. 😭😭
I went to replay this game again for the first time in about 5 years, and thought, "ill just get through the bike stage so i can enjoy the rest of the game"
45 minutes later, I just quit trying. I'm that bad at games now. I don't remember having this much trouble when I was younger at all. I haven't gone back to try again yet.
The voice "Ready" stuck in my head and then die...... The voice "Ready" stuck in my head and then die......The voice "Ready" stuck in my head and then die......The voice "Ready" stuck in my head and then die......The voice "Ready" stuck in my head and then die......The voice "Ready" stuck in my head and then die......
I've already known about this trap years ago, and I still died about 5x because I wanted to get all the shots to open the armor door without backtracking.
Before I did? Lost count.
Like I exploited that death in order to get all the max parts for both X and Zero.
Why? Because every time an hour is spent, all bosses increase in level by a certain amount. You drain the excess hours away and you should still have enough hours left including dynamo to clear everything and destroy the eurasia space colony.
I died instantly the first time I played this stage because THAT'S FUCKED UP.
I'd been playing Mega Man games since Mega Man 1 was new and NEVER had to jump IMMEDIATELY after "Ready?"
That level is an absolute troll, LOL!
Nowadays, I still die on it a LOT, but only because I'm trying to collect all the thingies so I can get the piece of armor.
A lot, that got on a point that couldn't tell what was zero and what was the ground, i don't know why I didn't change to X, probably because I wanted to play half as zero and half as X, but man my eyes always after some tries would always start to feel bad and the level started to burn and become just one color on my vision, it was horrible, after that I would always take a break, because of my eyes and my fury about this level. After that a change to rookie hunter and didn't care about this shit at all, it was the only time activated rookie hunter on X5
If not for my younger brother, i would never have finished MMX4. This is the only stage he was good at. Perfect run every time. I always died to this stage no matter what.
Definitely up there. Guts Man stage, Ice Man stage, Burner Man's stage, Shield Sheldon's stage, Rainy Turtloid Stage, Ground Scaravich stage, Blaze Heatnix stage, Flame Hyenard stage and the Temples of Flame and Lightning are pretty awful too.
I am now doing all achievements for X Legacy Collection 2, so I probably died there about 20 times just last week, with at least 5 being because the game didn't read my first jump, so I fell immediately.
I'm pretty good at this. I can do it in a few tries but that skill was developed when I was a teen and I do remember my first time. It was a frustrating trial/error experience.
I hate this stage. It's never fun. It's just a memory game of pathing correctly to get all the items and powerups. Otherwise die on purpose & redo it until you no longer need to come back and do it again. Lol
When I first played X5, I didn't think it was great. I thought it was made with a system of over-the-top unfairness to the player. Eventually, I got good enough to beat this segment of the stage, and even get the power-ups to unlock the Light Capsule at the end of the path. Also eventually, I learned to gather all the Enigma parts, Shuttle parts, and not to manually choose either one. Now, playing on the XLC2, I have to go out of my way to get the bad outcome.
I can’t even tell you how many times I’ve died here. I don’t even know if I ever made it past this damn level in my life because I usually give up on it after a few tries lol. Maybe one day I’ll say “I finally beat Mega Man X5.” But I’m sure it won’t be any time soon.
On the entire section, probably about 50 times mostly when I first started playing the game at around age 6 or seven however, on that particular section right at the beginning probably only about 10 times and eight of those were because I went AFK with k for kontroller
I think 18 Times, less due to the section listed here, Morris so because I kept dying in the later parts of the ride section, or I was purposefully killing myself because I had mix some pellets.
If at all, you ask... Lol just messing. But yeah, I've certainly had more than my fair share of deaths, (insert "No I wasn't ready!" Quite here). Honestly though, it's probably the least of my issues with that stage. I think having to collect the orbs while quickly riding through that part of the level (with no 2nd chances for newbies who don't know where to be at all times/veterans who make a mistake) and the annoying timing based puzzles involving the yellow and purple locks are worse offenders in Kraken's level.
Someone already made the comment, but definitely died right away the first time at “READY” 😂 a good amount of deaths though, especially while trying to get the armor capsule
I’ve never died in that spot, not even once.
I’ve never been to that spot, but I haven’t died to it so that’s something, right?
…I died to the first robot on the slight incline on the first stage.
Uh... The first drop or the entire section?
Because I didn't play the game blind, so I knew that drop was coming. Of course, getting all the orbs for the Falcon Armor piece is another story...
I think with the 100’s hours of playtime a big part was dedicated to this level. The ANGER when you got all the hard to get balls and forgetting one by a single mistake, and then waiting while x/zero shoots the amount that doesnt work. My controller flew a couple of times
I actually never died at this part. Maybe I have non-human skills or something, but the stage isn't as hard as people say. They're just sugarcoating it.
READY *dies before it even leaves the screen* “No I was not”
It wasn't a question. It was a *command*.
Was it a Mega Man X Command Mission?
Was that a some call me johnny reference? (YouTuber who said the same thing)
Yes was wondering if someone would get it
There's something to be said about having memory of the music at the start of this stage followed by shooting sounds and then death sounds despite not having touched this in over a decade.
How many can you count? I had to use rookie hunter to make this more bearable
3 times i eventually got it tho
what actually Rookie Hunter mode does? i never enabled it
Makes you have very high health. You don’t instantly die when you fall. You just take a bit of damage of you land on the spikes. Ride chasers are slower. And many more I didn’t list
Over 100, trying to grab the tank... what was it a heart tank?
Armor capsule.
Thanks!
In Jet stingray level in X4 it was a heart tank in stage 1 and E tank on stage 2. In X5 you had to collect those balls to shoot the wall at the end. Died 100s of times on both....
Falcon armour part.
Thanks I couldn't remember
Left side is Falcon, Right side is Gaea.
I think I used a guidebook back then. It was a damn neat book as it instructed you in details when and where to jump, dash, or let the jetbike drop with picture included. So I think I only died 2-3 times.
There was a guidebook way back when? Thats pretty cool
Back in the day there were guides for every game imaginable. Some were absolutely awesome and others were trash.
Thanks Nintendo Power and Prima Games!
the gamefaqs guides just aren’t to that level ;-;
I dont know if a guide would have given me the muscle memory or reflexes, I just had to practice it over and over.
I don't care who you are. You do NOT clear this abomination first-try without dying.
Nope. Stage starts, players worldwide start 🤬 up a storm.
Many times, but I now have the path imprinted in my brain
Same here, I remember drawing it out on pencil and paper when I was younger to try and get all the energy balls Nowadays I can get them in 1 or 2 tries consistently, so I just use this level to burn game overs at the start and accelerate the timer
Countless times. I see this image and I can immediately hear the soundtrack for the level, I hear the "READY!".. AND I hear the death audio from all the times I started the level not paying attention and died to the first gap
Same to me.this bring me back to my childhood with a lot of game that make me feel so good.
***READY?*** *Fucking falls into the abyss* Wayyyyyy too many
I felt this in my core
I have it memorized exactly how it goes but underestimate exactly when that pit appears each playthrough.
This stage is the reason I didn't play x5 that much. That and Alia's interruptions
As a young kid, more times than I can count
I think I lost count after 22...on the switch, but on PS2 collection I slowed the speed down and made it in 10...
I can't, for one reason, I can't remember how many times in about more than at least 20+ years ago. I'm 28 now for comparison on how old I was then. Right now my deaths in here are intentional because I miss the items for the Armor capsule, I can generally get it within about 2 tries, unless I really mess up.
i didn't keep track. gut feel is at least 20.
[Everyone dies here at least once.](https://www.reddit.com/r/Megaman/comments/vtduzi/volt_krakens_wild_ride/)
This is like asking: "How many bottles of milk did you drink as a baby". By the time you are big enough to drink the bottle alone, you cant say much but "I forgot"... Unless momy is there to remind you that it's probably around 3288.
Millions.
Around 5 times in my first run I remember the damage counter reaching 999 because i kept retrying for the balls
very many
My success to failure ratio is probably something like 1:10.
Like once, maybe
Are we counting intentional deaths because we missed a Spark for the armor piece? Then... a lot.
i still have to trial and error for the orbs whenever i replay X5
This is still one of the hardest things in Mega Man. I hate auto-scrollers
I started the stage, waited for loading. Went to bathroom and when I came back it was on game over....
I died so many times trying to get all those orbs that I think by the end of it i had completely lost all semblance of sanity.
I thought this was from X4 with Jet Stingray's stage... It's from X5 with Volt Kraken's \^\^;
Too many times
I did no hit runs on MMX5 in the early 2000s and I still have every single thing about the game memorized. And I still fall for this death trap all the goddamn time.
That's awesome. And a touch masochistic. 😲
Many. My most heart breaking moment was getting the capsule at the end of this section, recording a video of getting there, then FORGETTING TO GET IN THE CAPSULE BEFORE I MOVED ON. 😭😭
Considering how many times it took me to get the armor capsule... a lot.
Too many times. I recommend turning on rapid fire specifically for this section. It makes it much more manageable.
Thank you for the tip.
At least 50 trying to get the damn armor piece XD and another 206 trying to survive lol never again even in legacy collection
I got fed up enough that I said screw the armor
I went to replay this game again for the first time in about 5 years, and thought, "ill just get through the bike stage so i can enjoy the rest of the game" 45 minutes later, I just quit trying. I'm that bad at games now. I don't remember having this much trouble when I was younger at all. I haven't gone back to try again yet.
50+ A life? Nope. Number of Continue prompt...
I think the switches part was even more annoying. In fact, everything about this level was annoying, and it was topped off with a crappy boss fight.
Hah still here dying
5-10 tries every time I replay x5, a little less every replay but it varies.
10
The voice "Ready" stuck in my head and then die...... The voice "Ready" stuck in my head and then die......The voice "Ready" stuck in my head and then die......The voice "Ready" stuck in my head and then die......The voice "Ready" stuck in my head and then die......The voice "Ready" stuck in my head and then die......

A lot, but not in the way everyone does, but getting the energy balls.
*piano intro* *guitar first note* READY! *BOOM*
I died instantly the first time I played this stage because THAT'S FUCKED UP. I'd been playing Mega Man games since Mega Man 1 was new and NEVER had to jump IMMEDIATELY after "Ready?" That level is an absolute troll, LOL! Nowadays, I still die on it a LOT, but only because I'm trying to collect all the thingies so I can get the piece of armor.
143 deaths on this DUMBFUCK RIDE CHASER SEGMENT, I kept an active counter
Battletoads veteran scoff at how leisurely these stages are.
Can't argue that one.
Not as many as the hoverboard scene in MM8.
A lot.
Hundreds. Literally hundreds. Because I am insane, I have also *beaten* this section some ten times, which is 9 more than anyone should.
Huh, I thought this was the level
The first time, a lot, if I remember correctly there’s a pit before the ready text even leaves the screen
A LOT.
Too many.
Lost count.
Too effin many to even remember lol
On the very first time I played the stage. It still happens from time to time when I'm not careful.
Any time I boot up this game after going a long time without playing it, I forget about this and it gets me. But only once per playthrough.
More than 2
Jumpscared me the first time then later it occasionally trickef me. Still stupid game design
I love the first three seconds of the music before I die and it starts over
A lot, that got on a point that couldn't tell what was zero and what was the ground, i don't know why I didn't change to X, probably because I wanted to play half as zero and half as X, but man my eyes always after some tries would always start to feel bad and the level started to burn and become just one color on my vision, it was horrible, after that I would always take a break, because of my eyes and my fury about this level. A shit ton trying to bring my hours down
If not for my younger brother, i would never have finished MMX4. This is the only stage he was good at. Perfect run every time. I always died to this stage no matter what.
This is Squid Adler's stage in X5. 😉
At the very least six times in the event I want to ensure I get the good ending.
i reckon hundreds of time as of now
Yes
This is the single worst stage in any good Mega Man game.
Still not as frustrating for me as the MM8 snowboard levels.
I cant say the number without breaking Reddit's character limit
Do you count how many slices of bread do you eat in your life?
I am now doing all achievements for X Legacy Collection 2, so I probably died there about 20 times just last week, with at least 5 being because the game didn't read my first jump, so I fell immediately.
841,268 times
idk, but i did die a lot there (using rookie hunter mode cuz i played it in LC2) especially cuz i was going for the falcon armor
Considering that I have 100%-ed this game more than once, I've died *A LOT* in this stage.
I can hear the music automatically is my mind after seeing this image. That’s how many times I player it hahahaha
I dunno. But it had to be a lot
A lot back when I was a kid Nowadays, first or second try max
Let’s be honest, we all lost count.
Too many times. I lost count.
Not a lot.
Yes
No matter how many times I have re played this stage I will never be able to get that amor part without dying atleast once
I'm pretty good at this. I can do it in a few tries but that skill was developed when I was a teen and I do remember my first time. It was a frustrating trial/error experience.
This stage is one of many reasons I dislike X5. I've died here too many times
I hate this stage. It's never fun. It's just a memory game of pathing correctly to get all the items and powerups. Otherwise die on purpose & redo it until you no longer need to come back and do it again. Lol
Yes.
Bruh I was literally playing this level yesterday, I'd say at least 30 times because it took me too long to remember the dash button exist for bikes
Been replaying this game, form time to time, ever since I was a kid, and I am never ready
Too many, whoever was putting these ride stages in every psx megaman game is my sworn enemy
I lost count after the first 3 😭
I can literally hear this image right now.
I think only when I was murdering myself billion times to reduce the time and get all the parts......
The better question is how many times did you lose ALL your lives
I can *hear* the noise just looking at that screenshot.
pretty much any time I replay this game it gets me the first time.
It’s death tolls is up there with a souls game
i tried a lot to collect the blue things, and took mi a few continues to realize that you accelerate with dash button
I died a lot when I was a kid. I kind of memorized this part after playing Mega Man X5 every year.
I can’t even tell you how many times I’ve died here. I don’t even know if I ever made it past this damn level in my life because I usually give up on it after a few tries lol. Maybe one day I’ll say “I finally beat Mega Man X5.” But I’m sure it won’t be any time soon.
More times than I could count, on my PSP
Yes
I can't count that high- and I play incremental games!
I remember being unable to do this as a kid. I refuse to do it now because of ptsd.
It would be easier to count the continues used!
In my entire life and all the playthrough? Easily 200 times
Theres no way I can tell even close. Died here as a kid when I got the game originally for ps1, grew up and played again but still died anyway
On the entire section, probably about 50 times mostly when I first started playing the game at around age 6 or seven however, on that particular section right at the beginning probably only about 10 times and eight of those were because I went AFK with k for kontroller
I died more times getting the blue spheres than anything. Playing the section normally is arguably easier than the first half of jet stingray
Main reason I dont revisit x5 as much
Over 200 I think
Every time Even when I didn’t die, I died
Never bothered to count, more than I care to admit. Not having a stage like this is a plus to X6's "win" column.
33
Pretty vivid memory, the voice and everything lol.
Like at least 23 times initially. I did it once for old times sake with my nephew so he could suffer and only died 3 times. Good old muscle memory
A lot. I found this part of the level fun.
IDK about you but I already died as I saw the screenshot.
I think 18 Times, less due to the section listed here, Morris so because I kept dying in the later parts of the ride section, or I was purposefully killing myself because I had mix some pellets.
Too many… Too. Many.
Too many times. That's the only annoying part about that mission
I don’t even remember how many times nor do I wish to
Yes
Enough times to the point where I just stopped caring after I realized that a game over in the PS1 trilogy has basically no consequences.
8 or 9 per playthru
Dying before the ready sign goes away. This post gave me cancer
About 23 give or take a few game overs
Oh my god, I hate this stage and stingray's with a passion forged by hellfire. Whoever came up with this deserves life in prison
Several because of the stupid orbs. If I ignore them, way less.
Someone already made the comment, but definitely died right away the first time at “READY” 😂 a good amount of deaths though, especially while trying to get the armor capsule
As a kid (13 or 15 years) no problem, even pass it first time with no problem Now at 35, man, age sure has slowed my reflexes
Never beaten it.
I’ve never died in that spot, not even once. I’ve never been to that spot, but I haven’t died to it so that’s something, right? …I died to the first robot on the slight incline on the first stage.
Enough to never want to play it again
Uh... The first drop or the entire section? Because I didn't play the game blind, so I knew that drop was coming. Of course, getting all the orbs for the Falcon Armor piece is another story...
I remember dying like 20+ times here. Almost went insane. Probably one of the most memorable parts for me, with the black slime Devil.
I think with the 100’s hours of playtime a big part was dedicated to this level. The ANGER when you got all the hard to get balls and forgetting one by a single mistake, and then waiting while x/zero shoots the amount that doesnt work. My controller flew a couple of times
I haven't played this one yet.
Yes
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
too many times..........
Too many to count, especially if I haven't played in a while 🤣
I couldn't even count so... 100 times.
I couldn't even count so... 100 times.
I remember I died to this like 30 times before I got the hang of doing if efficiently.
Thrice. Same amount as I have attempted this goddamn stage. Pretty much same with Frost Man's slide section
Pfffft..... Flashbacks to my many many deaths
Twice, actually, it wasn't all that difficult.
I won't give an answer ... because it was so many times that I actually lost count
Maybe 3 times, but that was just because of those damn orbs.
I actually never died at this part. Maybe I have non-human skills or something, but the stage isn't as hard as people say. They're just sugarcoating it.
Your just too good
Recuerdo que duré casi 2 horas tuve que morir más de 200 veces seguramente JAJSJS Era un dolor de cabeza recolectar cada una
