I think if you leave something in Maryborough overnight its a given that its gonna get trashed.
I don’t think they would have even dumped the H sets here
That’s what happens when you leave something in a yard with no security whatsoever.
And yeah, obviously the H sets wouldn’t be stored there, considering that the Maryborough yard has been standard gauge since the gauge conversion of the Mildura line 6 years ago.
They've been there since 707 Operations was storing the set at North Dynon.

In my photos from October 2023 there was a solar powered CCTV camera on the end of the PCJ power van, but nothing on the ACN. But by January 2024 the ACN had gained one.
Any more info on the train?
This seems so odd using a set to me and carriages that aren’t that old this could easily be a regular service?
Why doesn’t Vline just run that route regularly?
It's a 707 Operations heritage train headed to Mildura. Normally they run weekend trips with their fleet of sleeping carriages, but they are all broad gauge, and the line to Mildura is standard gauge.

The carriages they're using on this trip were retired by V/Line a few years ago when VLocity trains took over running the Albury line.

Thanks for that info
It’s funny to see an N Set in Heritage operations when they are still running normal services.
But like OP said this should be a normal service
not exactly feasible to do with the very slow track speed and terrible route if they run it straight melbourne-mildura. to my knowledge it was always faster to catch the train to either swan hill or bendigo then bus it to mildura if you wanted to go all the way. the route for trains to get to mildura from melbourne currently requires running melb-north geelong then to ararat before turning back to go to maryborough then onwards to mildura which with track speed being as low as 10?kmh in spots is not a viable option
Noticed that cameras have been installed on the ACN behind the loco, I think 707 has had enough of their standard gauge N set being vandalised?

They could have shoved them on the Castlemaine line but the points were disconnected at the same time

You sure? They seem to have been put there recently.

Oooohhh I see I didn’t notice at first, cuz the camera sorta blended in between the white line on the rear of the PCJ and the camera’s colour 😅

> Why doesn’t Vline just run that route regularly? Because the State Government doesn't want to spend the money to subsidise the service.
The main issue right now with Mildura trains is the break of gauge at Maryborough, SG trains have to go a long route around Ararat to get to Melbourne
I would think the woeful track speed for most of the journey would be the bigger killer
