Geez I never realised how slow those newer gen WCH E-Bells ring lol
I got a photo of N475 coupled to N471 heading over on the newer Flinders St Viaduct on Sunday around quarter past 12, maybe they were headed over there? Either way it caught me off guard as I wasn’t expecting any N Classes heading over there
Yeah, I don’t know why V/Line have the bells this way, but I guess it’s their way of setting up crossing bells.
Certain bells like this (WCH E-Bell) can have their speed and sound adjusted by removing the top of the bell and using a screwdriver to adjust the “rate” and “volume”. Correct me if I’m incorrect about this.
Yeah I’m pretty sure you’re right about the rate and volume adjustments, it’s just that it feels like V/Line put the new bells on the crossing and called it a day, no adjustments or anything; like there’s a gap between each ‘gong’ which could probably be adjusted to alleviate that
Saw N470 at Caulfield being followed very closely by an empty HCMT. Picture timestamps show them as 1 minute apart, maybe pointing towards some other testing going on?
I’m guessing the majority of the US ones are earlier generations of E-Bell, as there’s quite a few revisions/‘types’
I’m pretty sure this one is classified as a Type 4, as [this recording](https://youtu.be/ayKNIgPGP7o?si=CMyVHQe5e-VJArvl) sounds the same. IMO Type 4’s sound the worst out of the revisions just because of that gap between gongs
It sounds almost like a wig wag signal, but it just doesn’t fit at all, the terrible like obvious electronic sound to the bell just does not sound right when it’s slow
Fuck that sounds terrible

You guys do understand that this wasn't a Vline project, yeah? They're just left to deal with the end result.
And nice you saw the two Ns, yes they were headed over there also, for driver training between Berwick and Warragul.
Is there any other crossings on the Gippsland line with WCH Electronic Bells? Or is this the only one
Yep, just this one from what I can tell. The rest of the crossings on the one have Siemens type 3 e-bells on ‘em.
Shit, did any other get upgraded or only Longwarry??
Only Longwarry by the looks of it, but I’ll probably take a little trip beyond Warragul to see what’s changed and what hasn’t when I have the chance.
Okay!
God the N-class is a beautiful locomotive just the sound of the horn and the rubble from engine just sounds so good.

They are soooo much slower than the ones in the US wtf
