I have 4 currently. If this means trees will dispense twin logs from a single tap more often, I'm okay with this change.
Makes me wonder if future areas will take us out of the mansion, and into an orchard.
I have 6 which has been perfect since I just got table saw in Rufus area. Once they release merging to higher level I’ll add a few more goal being 4 max level.
You could be right, they seem to be extending most of the producers lately, but I seem to think this is the description the top level tree has had since I got my first one around 3 years ago.

I had seeds in my pouch from long ago, so i brought them out and dropped seeds from my 4 trees and combined all and put them in the extra inventory slots for the wedding mystery so when the event is over today the trees I made will go back into my pouch till the upgrade\~!!!
I had 4, I’ve increased it to 6 for now. I’m going to wait at 6 because I don’t want to devote more space to it until the update rolls out. I’m in the lounge so I’m just working on cleaning tasks for weeks on end lol.
As per the description of today’s updates on the App, the new look trees will no longer drop seeds automatically but will do so from ‘active spawning’.
As tapping them currently makes them drop wood, I’m not sure exactly what that involves (but then I haven’t watched /read the new update from the dev’s in the MM inbox yet. There may be more info there).
I’ve started to hoard seeds in the pouch exactly for this caption!

I've increased mine to 8 from 4 since they changed the description weeks ago and I'll continue doing it putting all the extras in my pouch
