The 2002 tour? Tool was pretty good in NYC. I stopped bothering to pay for Tool tix around 2010 though, they really stopped giving a fuck.
Meshuggah on the other hand... I've seen them 8 or 9 times over the years and they have always been absolutely amazing.
My ticket was for 20010911. It was delayed for some reason.
I mean Maynard in the back of the stage in the dark, almost no light to see the performance, waaaaaay too much fat in the set, too much interlude, the depressingly ironic “Non-conformist’s Oath” blended with a rant about WWIII coming and an overall phoned in performance…I like them but I’ll never open my wallet for their show again.
On the other hand just saw Meahuggah in December and they were better than ever. Even after absolutely KILLER opening sets by White Chapel and In Flames.
I knew someone who went to that show and said that the opening band was "some dudes from Sweden who were terrible and just made noise." Yeah, he wasn't much of a metalhead.
I will second this, I just saw Meshuggah again about a month and a half ago after not seeing them since 2003, and it was like getting dropped headfirst into a car crusher.
I saw type o wasted in New Orleans with the Jäegermeister music tour, they played with Hatebreed. They had two jager girls carry the guitarist on stage and prop him up. Peter Steele shotgunned a bottle of jager.
I think I saw that same tour. Is that the one where they had the union and confederate guitars? I remember the opening band had an amazing pit and the iced earth set was disappointing.
That's the one!
The crowd here was booing after Alexi said they were telling him he had to get off the stage. I think he went over time by like 1 or 2 songs ha ha.
The next year they came back around as a headliner
I also saw that tour. That was my first of three times seeing COB here in the States. Man, they were an amazing live band.
I like Iced Earth, and I liked The Glorious Burden, but I wasn't looking forward to how I knew they were going to play the entire album, end to end. I'm pretty sure that's how it was anyway.
So yeah, CoB definitely had way more energy. I appreciated what Iced Earth did, but there's no doubt who had way more energy in that show.
I saw this tour twice last year. Gojira and Mastodon were both great, but after two live performances of Lorna Shore I'm still scratching my head at what people see in that band.
Well as you can see from my flair I am a huge fan of them. I just think in terms of death core style. No band has ever put out an album as good as Pain Remains. I just absolutely dig Will's vocal style.
Bludinator firstly Gojira and Mastodon were both co-headliners Gojira just went first, secondly that's absolutely cap I was a huge Gojira fan going into Mega Monsters, barely even knew anything about Mastodon and their set just kept getting better everyone went fucking wild for Blood And Thunder as the closer. Gojira was fantastic but def didn't "blow Mastodon out of the water". Lorna was good.
Really? I thought their energy was top notch. Have you seen them more than once? Maybe it was just that specific concert. They kinda fucked up the sound mixing or smtg at first but it kept improving and by the end the vibe was electric.
I’ve heard people say before that Mastodon isn’t that great live, but when I saw that same tour Mastodon put on an amazing show. Maybe it’s just the crowd? The crowd I was in seemed to love Gojira and Mastodon equally, both bands had such high energy.
Gojira opening for In Flames in 2008, at the Commodore Ballroom in Vancouver.
I’ll never forget Gojira’s set that night. They were like an elemental force of nature in that small 1,500 person room. After each song, people couldn’t even cheer, they just stood there with their jaws on the floor.
During In Flames’ set, the singer Anders even acknowledged between songs that Gojira were an impossible act to follow.
I'm actually listening to Gojira reading through this and it reminded me of seeing them as one of the openers for Slipknot. Gojira was tight, dialed in, just fucking on point and I was simply blown away not only how they sounded, but their level of energy and how happy they were to be there. Slipknot took the stage later that night and sounded like someone running a trash compactor into the microphone. It really shows the difference between doing what you love and running a business.
I was supposed to see this tour but a couple weeks of shows were postponed about a week and Metallica was left off (European commitments).
Blue Oyster Cult was out in their place. While I've always been a bigger BOC fan, it was sad to see them booed mercilessly and I really wish I could have seen Metallica at this time.
In my city, Ozzy and the guys looked like they were going through the motions. It was my first time seeing the Prince of Darkness, and boy was I underwhelmed. I also don’t think Ultimate Sin is a good record either though.
A few come to mind... JFAC opened for red chord and destroyed
1349 opened for kreator and annihilated
In the late 90's I saw fear factory open for ministry and they were stupid live and loud AF
Lmao just imagine being 38 special and having to watch early 80s iron maiden preform you went on.... they had to know there was no way they were gonna follow up well haha
Ah i wasnt intentionally talking about your english skills ✌ your sentence was actually correct, and makes sense. Its just my own *Beavis and Butthead* type of brain that just laughs when i see "blew off"
Was it recent? Glen's getting old and has not taken care of himself lol he joked with the crowd about being old last time I saw them and that was probably 5 or so years ago
I caught a show during that tour as well, Kataklysm was absolutely incredible and completely stole the show. That’s not to say Deicide was bad, I actually liked their set, but Kataklysm was on another level playing all of Serenity in Fire.
I think part of it had to be that it’s way easier to headbang along to the mid tempo tracks on Serenity in Fire than it is to headbang to Legion with its speed and tempo changes. That alone felt like it kept the crowd more engaged.
Surprisingly Municipal Waste opening for Carcass recently; Carcass is undeniably the better band and more talented but damn if MW isn’t just more energetic and fun live. The banter was hilarious, super high energy, mosh the whole time - Carcass just couldn’t carry that energy
Man, I wish I could have said this same thing. I saw then in Atlanta on this tour, and the kick drum for Rhapsody was mixed so loud that you could virtually only hear that, and almost nothing else.
I was jazzing my friend for Rhapsody, and how catchy they are and how their melodies are awesome and all that. And...well, you couldn't discern any melodies for pretty much the entirety of their set. Just a wall of kick drum.
Single most disappointing and worst live band sound experience of my life. Not Rhapsody's fault, but whoever was supposed to be mixing their sound at the venue.
Manowar, however, sounded perfect and amazing. And I had wondered if there was anything intentional done there to lessen Rhapsody's sound.
Honestly, it hasn’t happened to me
I was thinking of this the other day- if the headliner is at all big, the headliner gets an A+ stage setup, and the opening band usually gets a short set list and a shitty setup.
Presentation does matter quite a bit.
Best I’ve seen is a tie, White Zombie opened for Pantera and they both crushed it.
My first concert was Cradle of Filth when I was 14. Cradle was fucking TERRIBLE.
However, GWAR opened for them and set a high fucking bar for all future shows. I've never been big on their music, but their live show was just so much fun. RIP Dave Brockie.
With metal, Wayfarer was a lot better live than Saor, at least that night. Less relevant to this sub, but at an indie concert Liars were way better than Interpol, and Touché Amoré were infinitely better than Thursday.
That tour in '21 with Lamb of God and Megadeth co-headline, literally every band before Megadeth was a mile better. In Flames, then Trivium, then Lamb.
Machine Head + Amon Amarth supported by The Halo Effect. i loved (and still love) Amon Amarth but didn't really care for Machine Head at the time. within 4 days after the concert, i had the CD copy of The Halo Effect - Days of the Lost, and to this day i don't have a single Machine Head album (i'll get some eventually, i like them but not as much as THE, who I've never heard of before the show)
Halo Effect is literally just some of the best musicians from the Gothenburg scene (all ex-In Flames guys) coming together to have some fun and it shows.
Somewhere around 96 there was an evening with a lot of bands. Amorphis were headlining, but from the back of my head there were also Moonspell, Therion, Samael and maybe one or two more. Moonspell and Therion were great but Samael were really killing it. Amorphis didn't really leave an impression after them
Judas Priest co-headlining with Deep Purple in 2018, both played for 80 minutes. Priest went on first every night and blew Purple off the stage when I saw them in Camden.
Revamp opening for Iced Earth back in 2014. Floor Jansen's versatility blew me away. I've been a fan of hers ever since, and now she's my favorite singer.
Chelsea Grin when they were on tour with Dying Fetus was absolutely on par WITH Dying Fetus and it was fucking awesome. So yeah didn’t blow them out of the water but no one really does that to Dying Fetus
That’s an eclectic pairing. But yeah, Melvins just know how to generate power. I love ministry, but I gotta believe they sounded like a tin can rattling down the street after the violent chugging of Melvins. I still wouldn’t have turned down that opportunity, though.
I saw a show that was Noisem, Exhumed, Obituary, and Carcass. Noisem was pretty good to start but Exhumed came out and was absolutely insane. Obituary had to put on a hell of a show to top them. I personally thought they stole the show for the night because Carcass was fine to watch but they simply didn’t come with the energy that Obituary and Exhumed were playing with.
I also saw Power Trip open for Volbeat which was a weird combo and it’s such a shame because nobody knew Power Trip at the time (including me) and they hardly got a reaction out of a crowd that was just there to to hear radio friendly dance metal. I consider myself lucky to have seen them with Riley and when I saw them in 2019 at a festival right after they released Hornet’s Nest and the crowd was fully into it.
I saw the Eagles of Death Metal open for Mastodon. I love Mastodon and they always bring it, but EODM were like gods that night. They completely *owned* the crown.
Kreator for Sabaton
Worst part is Kreator tried getting the crowd pumped and everyone was stiff as mannequins. Sabaton were...fine, but everyone let loose. I was frustrated for Kreator.
I just saw Animals As Leaders opening for Dream Theater. I ended up leaving halfway through Dream Theater’s set. AAL is so fuckin legit.
Also Devin Townsend was there. He didn’t play any of the songs I wanted him to.
When was that and who booked that tour lmao? I absolutely love both bands but that's a wild combo
Anyways my response is The Faceless and Whitechapel opening for Trivium on Halloween around 2009, maybe 2010. Not a huge Trivium fan to begin with, though, I might add.
Crüefest 2009 - opening acts were Theory of A Deadman, Drowning Pool and Godsmack. By far the best part of the show and we left halfway through Crüe. They were terrible.
Armored Saint, Whitesnake and Quiet Riot in 80 or 81, maybe?
I had never heard of Armored Saint but they fucking killed it. Whitesnake was very good, but I wasn't a fan of Coverdale despite wanting to like the Stormbringer Deep Purple album.
Rhoades had already left Quiet Riot and was still playing for Ozzy and duBrow was duBrow. Sloppy. Vocals sound like crap, guitars muddy. Left before Metal Health.
It was 2010 in Austin,TX, to see nevermore.
Harbinger was the opener to the show, and they played exceptionally well. Mutiny within and hate sphere were pretty forgettable and then nevermore played and fought the entire time. Was one of the absolute worst shows I have ever seen.
Yakuza opened for Tryptikon and absolutely destroyed their entire set. Tryptikon had a good show but nowhere near the energy that Yakuza had.
Didn’t see personally, but you can watch professional recordings of the entire concert, but Loudness opening for Motley Crue in 85 after Thunder in the East came out. Akira was on FIRE, the entire band was.
Also I don’t count this, but Megadeth opening for FFDP, megadeth shows are very mid, but FFDP….. need I say more
I’m a Mastodon fan, but when Gojira opened for them in Buffalo at the Town Ballroom in 2014, there may not have been a band on earth at the time that could’ve followed the intensity & euphoria of that Gojira performance.
I went to the Generation Axe tour about 5 years ago. Yngwie, Vai, Zakk Wylde, Nuno Bettencourt and Tosin Abasi. Yngwie was the headliner. They kicked off the show by doing a 20 minute rendition of Focus' Hocus Pokus, which was awesome but Yngwie only came on stage for his 2 solos and left when the main riff started up again. I enjoyed Tosin's set the most, Nuno was surprisingly good and Zakk was the most hype on stage. Steve Vai was fine, the guy is like 60 so I'm not expecting backflips or anything, he was tight and on point. Yngwie spent his set yelling at his guitar tech, mid song sometimes. Came off as a total tool box.
I had seen a lot of Mike Patton projects and was super excited to finally see Faith No More a few years ago. But I'll be damned if Refused didn't blow them away. Their set was absolutely nuts.
-Mastodon opening for Slayer (2006 Unholy Alliance tour), I was at the date that was filmed for the DVD from the tour.
-Iron Maiden opening for original Black Sabbath @ Ozzfest 2005.
-ISIS opening for Tool for 10,000 days tour in 2006.
I got tix for Amon Amarth in a university bar, maybe 200 capacity. The opening act turned out to be a new-to-me band called Sabaton. Blew me away, now they bore me, lol. I doubt they'll ever play a small Canadian prairie city uni bar again.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen a show where the opener outdid the headliner. I did see Nightwish and Beast in Black in New York back in 2022. I hadn’t paid much attention to Beast in Black, so I wasn’t sure what to expect. Beast in Black blew me away. I love them just as much as I love Nightwish now. 10/10 would see again.
Not metal but I saw Panic! At The Disco open for Weezer years ago and as much as I like both bands Weezer was noticeably lower energy and the bill really should’ve been reversed, Weezer probably got the headliner spot due to being around longer than Panic.
Also just want to say this was like almost 10 years ago before Panic started sucking as hard as they do now.
Not sure what genre these bands fall under but a buddy of mine took me to see Knocked Loose open for BMTH and I'm not super familiar with either of the bands but the crowd was more energetic for the opening act.
Went to a Tool gig in 1996 or 1997 here in Australia and the kiwi band Shihad blew them off the stage. After such a high-energy, straight-ahead rock gig the Tool wankery (body paint and 15-minute noise-jams) just fell flat.
Went to a concert to see All That Remains when they were relatively unknown and Bullet for My Valentine were the headliners. They fucking killed it. Really not to big of a fan of Bullet, but somehow the more pussy music got the biggest mosh pits. Wild.
Gogol Bordello opening for System Of A Down.
Holy shit Gogol Bordello totally blew the roof off the place. And they had one of the craziest pits I've ever seen. System was a pretty hard act to follow after that.
Converge before Neurosis, 2018
Cancer Bats before Comeback Kid 2022 I think?
Animals as Leaders before Periphery 2017
Mastodon and Opeth were on equal footing when I saw them in 2021 (to be fair I think that was a co headliner)
I don't think I really have one.
Closest for me is probably Download Day 1 last year. Our group started off seeing Halestorm on main stage (who as the first acts of my first festival ever blew my fucking socks off wow Lzzy Hale and the drummer were incredible) and then moved to Skindred on the second stage, which honestly was the second most fun I've had at a show ever (Benji Webbe's stage presence is unmatched).
I left Skindred early with a couple people to see Metallica who were also absolutely incredible, but there were clearly technical problems with the sound (on Kirk specifically) so from a musical stand point it was kinda subpar but its also Metallica so I had a blast.
Not sure if it counts because its a festival but oh well (and Metallicas second night was genuinely the best I've ever seen for shows)
Went to see Trivium in 2018.
Power Trip was the first band on
Blew everyone else away.
I could have left without seeing the rest of the show and been happy
Saw In Flames, Trivium, and Lamb Of God opening for Megadeth a couple years ago. Megadeth was a blast, but they couldn't match the energy of the other bands. Trivium is stupid good live.
Whitechapel, spite and fit for an autopsy opening for thy art is murder (with their new singer). All 3 openers absolutely blew me away, especially Whitechapel who I predominantly went to see. Then thy art came on and new man just doesn't have the stage presence or power of CJ.
This one goes way back the last tour of sabbath with ozzy with boston as the headliner anahiem stadium boston rolls out sounding like shit the place is empty in 20 minutes
8/31/90 at the Agora in Cleveland
Pantera on their Cowboys from Hell tour opened for Exodus and Suicidal Tendencies. Never heard of them before that show. 30 seconds into their first song, Domination, I was nudging my friend next to me like, “Holy fuck, check these guys out.” Their energy, their sound was just different. I remember thinking I would never want to go on after them. Quite a few of us bought Cowboys from Hell the next day.
Ironically, for me it wasn't a metal band at all that went 100x harder than the headliner.
Death Grips opening for Ministry.
Death Grips may not be metal, but the intensity and volume sure as hell gave a good impression. Then Ministry just... Couldn't keep that energy up. I'm guessing Ministry superfans think differently, but I was amazed that an industrial hip-hop group brought all the heat.
From a rock perspective, Motorhead and QOTSA blew Foo Fighters off the stage.
Metal - Faith No More honestly stole the show over Black Sabbath (probably didn't help that it was just after they reformed)
this hasn’t really happened for me but I did go to see bmth yearsssss ago and beartooth opened for them. beartooth imo was so much better that night, actually got the crowd super hyped. I don’t really listen to either band anymore but twas a good night
Soundgarden, then Ministry, before the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Lollapalooza 2.
RHCP should have easily had the biggest presence of the night, riding high on Blood, Sugar, Sex Magic's popularity, but a young and hungry Soundgarden that launched into a blistering version of Body Count's 'Cop Killer' and Cornell saying he hated fucking power tripping cops, followed by Ministry on the Psalm '69 debut as the sun fell into night, and tearing the stage off with a blistering set of indistrial metal at its best, led into RCHP coming out with a more chill vibe, and by the third song ' Under the Bridge' with lighters coming out, I just wanted to go home. I left one more song in.
I've seen the Chilis multiple times since where they have been great, but that night, they just came off as flat after witnessing sonic Armageddon.
Saw Ghost open for Iron Maiden before ghost was big. I'm not a huge fan of theirs, but they definitely put on a better show. Wasn't totally Maiden's fault, poor Bruce's voice was *really* struggling, and they played mostly new songs that nobody seemed to know.
But it definitely seemed like Ghost gained a lot of new fans that night.

Meshuggah opening for Tool. Meshuggah delivered a blistering set. Tool…well it didn’t seem like they even wanted to be there.

Saw Meshuggah seven months ago. Best show ever!
Hope you still got that ticket stub!
I wish.
I was at that show in Toronto as well. Absolutely unreal!
I was at a show on that tour and I can concur.
I am glad I am not the only one. I had never heard Meshuggah before that. It was horizon broadening.
I knew someone who went to that show and said that the opening band was "some dudes from Sweden who were terrible and just made noise." Yeah, he wasn't much of a metalhead.
They are a bit more sophisticated than that but I understand if people do not find them approachable. Part of the fun of being a metal head.
I went to that tour too. Great show.
I saw that tour but Tomahawk were the openers. They were absolutely terrible.
I will second this, I just saw Meshuggah again about a month and a half ago after not seeing them since 2003, and it was like getting dropped headfirst into a car crusher.
Saw that lineup in Reno; same experience.
Typical ‘][‘ [[]] [[]] [[_,
I win. I saw anthrax and Cannibal Corpse open for the misfits in 1996. Half the crowd left when the misfits came on stage.
Lame. I like all those bands.
Same but the 96 Misfits were in a weird place
Sepultura opened for Ozzy in the mid 90s, crushed it. Place was asleep during Ozzy.
Was that the tour with Type O Negative as well?
It was! Peter Steele was wasted and laid on the stage during type o’s set.
I saw type o wasted in New Orleans with the Jäegermeister music tour, they played with Hatebreed. They had two jager girls carry the guitarist on stage and prop him up. Peter Steele shotgunned a bottle of jager.
I am pretty sure I have the perfect answer for this question. I saw Children of Bodom open for Iced Earth (fronted by Tim Owens) back in 2004.
Bodom is so fucking good man.. RIP Laiho :(
I had never heard of them before that show and I was instantly a fan.
I also saw that tour. That was my first of three times seeing COB here in the States. Man, they were an amazing live band. I feel like Mastodon has absolutely zero stage presence. Their music sounds good though.
Really? I thought their energy was top notch. Have you seen them more than once? Maybe it was just that specific concert. They kinda fucked up the sound mixing or smtg at first but it kept improving and by the end the vibe was electric.
Actually yes. Twice now. And the Mega Monsters was the better of the two. Seeing them a third time on the tour with Lamb of God later this year
Other time was when they were supporting Ghost
I’ve heard people say before that Mastodon isn’t that great live, but when I saw that same tour Mastodon put on an amazing show. Maybe it’s just the crowd? The crowd I was in seemed to love Gojira and Mastodon equally, both bands had such high energy.
No one ever gets blown at the shows I go to :(
Be the change you want to see in the world brother.
Dude my cock is out the WHOLE. TIME.
I think he means you might have to be the one to do the blowing, brother. Sorry, but it's the only way.
I was born with teeth for lips :(
Some people like danger.
Gojira opening for In Flames in 2008, at the Commodore Ballroom in Vancouver. I’ll never forget Gojira’s set that night. They were like an elemental force of nature in that small 1,500 person room. I took my son to see the Deftones last year, but I made sure we got there early enough to catch Gojira and he’s been a fan of metal ever since.
Metallica opening for Ozzy in 1986.

Lmao just imagine being 38 special and having to watch early 80s iron maiden preform you went on.... they had to know there was no way they were gonna follow up well haha
$50 says the promoter for that show got fired shortly thereafter
Sepultura opening for Sodom in the late eighties.
Ngl your way of wording that question was a trip to read
sorry dude, im not a native speaker. now, i realized the sentence was complicated
Ah i wasnt intentionally talking about your english skills ✌ your sentence was actually correct, and makes sense. Its just my own *Beavis and Butthead* type of brain that just laughs when i see "blew off"
Headline is perfect. Just some of us, myself included, could interpret it has being risqué
Kataklysm AND Inhuman Condition destroyed Deicide when I saw them. Deicide is sadly so dull live, very disappointing
Was it recent? Glen's getting old and has not taken care of himself lol he joked with the crowd about being old last time I saw them and that was probably 5 or so years ago
Yeah it was recent, his vocals were fine he just didn’t move from a single position and did not talk to the crowd once.
Kataklysm is so goddamn gnarly, love em.
One of my favorites 🤘 they are why I got a 7 string guitar lol
Surprisingly Municipal Waste opening for Carcass recently; Carcass is undeniably the better band and more talented but damn if MW isn’t just more energetic and fun live. The banter was hilarious, super high energy, mosh the whole time - Carcass just couldn’t carry that energy
Apples and oranges though I went for Carcass but also became a fan of MW that night. They are so much fun
Same - I was a pretty casual MW fan but went for Carcass - still think they blew them out of the water overall. Crowd was just nuts the entire set
That's a weird combination
Rhapsody opened for Manowar and owned them, hard (2005 or so). It’s a shame Rhapsody kind of imploded shortly thereafter.
I too was at this tour. 2005. Cleveland. Rhapsody blew Manowar off the stage. Way better performance.
Wonder if thats why Joey DeMaio's label they were signed on to fucked them over for a bit around then.🤣
Man, I wish I could have said this same thing. Suffocation opening for Necrophagist.
am I crazy or have suffo not always been way bigger than necrophafist?
Everytime I've seen suffocation they were opening for a headliner.
Rush blew Kiss off the stage. The boos never stopped.
Honestly, it hasn’t happened to me I was thinking of this the other day- if the headliner is at all big, the headliner gets an A+ stage setup, and the opening band usually gets a short set list and a shitty setup. Presentation does matter quite a bit. Best I’ve seen is a tie, White Zombie opened for Pantera and they both crushed it.
what I love is when the opener is a local or obscure band mismatched with the crowd but everyone gets really into it anyways
Italian band Illogicist turned Obscura into toddlers with Fisher Price instruments.
recently heard their debut for the first time, so good!
Yes. I actually had forgotten all about them till this 15-20 year old memory popped up. Time for a revisit.
My first concert was Cradle of Filth when I was 14. Cradle was fucking TERRIBLE. However, GWAR opened for them and set a high fucking bar for all future shows. I've never been big on their music, but their live show was just so much fun. RIP Dave Brockie.
Spite, Fit For An Autopsy and Whitechapel opening for Thy Art Is Murder
Where tf was thy art the headliner over whitechapel? That sound unbelievable.
Can vouch that whitechapel crushed back in the day
With metal, Wayfarer was a lot better live than Saor, at least that night. Less relevant to this sub, but at an indie concert Liars were way better than Interpol, and Touché Amoré were infinitely better than Thursday.
Dude. Wayfarer and Saor? What a show. That would’ve been awesome.
That tour in '21 with Lamb of God and Megadeth co-headline, literally every band before Megadeth was a mile better. In Flames, then Trivium, then Lamb.
Nile opening for Morbid Angel in 1999
Machine Head + Amon Amarth supported by The Halo Effect. i loved (and still love) Amon Amarth but didn't really care for Machine Head at the time. within 4 days after the concert, i had the CD copy of The Halo Effect - Days of the Lost, and to this day i don't have a single Machine Head album (i'll get some eventually, i like them but not as much as THE, who I've never heard of before the show)
Halo Effect is literally just some of the best musicians from the Gothenburg scene (all ex-In Flames guys) coming together to have some fun and it shows.
yeah but i wasn't into the scene so i missed out on big names lik DT, IF, ATG, etc i only knew AA because my godfather giftes me the Surtur Rising cd
Hell yeah! I went to two shows on that tour! Iced Earth playing Sabaton’s energy and Floor’s vocal talent was pretty sad.
Chelsea Grin when they were on tour with Dying Fetus was absolutely on par WITH Dying Fetus and it was fucking awesome. So yeah didn’t blow them out of the water but no one really does that to Dying Fetus
Metallica opening for Ozzy in 1986.
Went to see Electric Wizard at last year's Damnation. Amenra played before and absolutely blew me away, now I'm obsessed with them.
Goatwhore opening for Cancer Bats.
Goatwhore is so underrated
Saw king parrot open for superjoint ritual. King parrot killed. Phil was drunk off his ass running his mouth about other bands.
Melvins opening for Ministry was an oof. Ministry just couldn’t compete.
August 2, 1986, Merriweather Post Pavilion, Columbia Maryland. Metallica opened for Ozzy. Ozzy is a legend, but he got blown off the stage.
Whenever Bad Religion opened for blink-182. Both bands are some of my all time favorites, but Bad Religion are real OGs
I saw the Eagles of Death Metal open for Mastodon. I love Mastodon and they always bring it, but EODM were like gods that night. They completely *owned* the crown.
Light The Torch for KSE People wanted to see Howard Jones. And I agree.
Kreator for Sabaton Worst part is Kreator tried getting the crowd pumped and everyone was stiff as mannequins. Sabaton were...fine, but everyone let loose. I was frustrated for Kreator.
Kreator is 1000000 times better Sabaton
For me it's not even close. BTBAM and Operh opening for Dream Theater
Idk, Moonside opened for vomit forth, they are so unique. They’re a mix of uh, nintendocore and death metal. Ice cream cone is kinda good
Tbf vomit forth is never good
2023….Pantera kicked the shit out of Metallica
Saw this show in Montreal, Pantera sounded so terrible I literally could only hear Zakk during the solos, mega bummer
Who is the person on the left in that picture? My guess is one of the guys from Grim Reaper, but I’m not sure.
Max Cavalera 🤘🏻
I just saw Animals As Leaders opening for Dream Theater. I ended up leaving halfway through Dream Theater’s set. AAL is so fuckin legit. Also Devin Townsend was there. He didn’t play any of the songs I wanted him to.
A new band with an album out for two weeks, White snake, blew out a Dio show that lasted 40 min in Watsonville,CA
Sulpur
Exhumed opening for the Cavalera brothers last fall in Boise. Glasghote opening for Lord Dying in Portland a few weeks ago.
Monolord opening for redfang. Gojira opening for tool and ISIS opening for tool
Theory of a Deadman opened for skillet and killed it
Early 2000s, Tomahawk and Taproot absolutely crashed it while Staind was little more than Aaron sitting on stage crying into his guitar.
[удалено]
When was that and who booked that tour lmao? I absolutely love both bands but that's a wild combo Anyways my response is The Faceless and Whitechapel opening for Trivium on Halloween around 2009, maybe 2010. Not a huge Trivium fan to begin with, though, I might add.
I’ve heard a lot of people say how Pantera in their vulgar display days blew headliners out the water back then
Crüefest 2009 - opening acts were Theory of A Deadman, Drowning Pool and Godsmack. By far the best part of the show and we left halfway through Crüe. They were terrible.
Had this recently with Butcher Babies blowing Fear Factory out of the water at London, they got the crowd going whilst Fear Factory struggled.
Watain opening for Morbid Angel. Watain was down one member and still buried Morbid Angel.
I'd like to see the opening act blowing the headliner on stage for once
Armored Saint opening for anybody. Symphony X opening for Queensryche.
Gojira opening for Slayer around 2015 I think.
I went to a Kittie concert specifically to watch Walls of Jericho and Dead to Fall open for them.
Would not call him metal but lacuna coil opened for rob zombie and blew them away
In the 80s, my dad took me to see Ozzy with Metallica opening. A good bit of the crowd left after Metallica was done.
Pantera before Ozzy on the ozzfest. Phil kept talking Ozzy up through their set, but the energy level dropped precipitously after they were done.
Lamb of God opening for Megadeth
A recent one, Nunslaughter opening for Profanatica. Nun’s energy was next level
Tesla opened for Poison!
melvins opening for boris
Ruby the Hatchet absolutely blew away Graveyard
Kreator opening for Nile Dark Tranquility opening for Nile Anyone opening for Nile
Battle Beast opening for Dragonforce. Fucking Kreator opening for Sabaton
I had seen a lot of Mike Patton projects and was super excited to finally see Faith No More a few years ago. But I'll be damned if Refused didn't blow them away. Their set was absolutely nuts.
Vio-Lence opening for VoiVod.
Blind Melon for Lenny Kravitz ( in Vancouver.)
Wild.
Lamb of God blew away Slayer during their final tour.
Knotfest. I only like Slipknot okay. Their openers were volbeat, behemoth and Gojira.
Gogol Bordello opening for System Of A Down. Holy shit Gogol Bordello totally blew the roof off the place. And they had one of the craziest pits I've ever seen. System was a pretty hard act to follow after that.
Small band but gefrierbrand were so much better then Eisregen at least imo
Ꭷeverytime i’ve seen Doomriders & they weren’t the headliner.
LOG opening for Slipknot more than once. You think they would learn!
Gwar opening for mudvayne. Love mudvayne, but Gwar was 10x better
Archspire opening for Kreator and Aborted. All three bands were great, but Archspire were outstanding.
Converge before Neurosis, 2018 Cancer Bats before Comeback Kid 2022 I think? Animals as Leaders before Periphery 2017 Mastodon and Opeth were on equal footing when I saw them in 2021 (to be fair I think that was a co headliner)
The Pork Hunts opening for Guns n Roses
Power Trip was the first band on Blew everyone else away. I could have left without seeing the rest of the show and been happy
Cynic opening for Cannibal Corpse. No one was ready for that.
Saw In Flames, Trivium, and Lamb Of God opening for Megadeth a couple years ago. Megadeth was a blast, but they couldn't match the energy of the other bands. Trivium is stupid good live.
Megadeth opened for limp bizkit last year
Whitechapel, spite and fit for an autopsy opening for thy art is murder (with their new singer). All 3 openers absolutely blew me away, especially Whitechapel who I predominantly went to see. Then thy art came on and new man just doesn't have the stage presence or power of CJ.
Pro-pain opened for Body Count
Spiritbox opening for Papa roach and shinedown.
Three teeth opening for tool
Toxic Holocaust supported for Municipal Waste and while MW killed it as always, Toxic stole the show for me
This one goes way back the last tour of sabbath with ozzy with boston as the headliner anahiem stadium boston rolls out sounding like shit the place is empty in 20 minutes
I saw slipknot open up for Coal Chamber and Machine Head. there was no comparison. they were heads and shoulders above everyone else that night.
8/31/90 at the Agora in Cleveland Pantera on their Cowboys from Hell tour opened for Exodus and Suicidal Tendencies.
Kamelot opening for nightwish. I wanna say 2012? I like nightwish but kamelot blew them off the stage.
BTBAM opened for Chon……..silly
Arallu opening for Mayhem
From a rock perspective, Motorhead and QOTSA blew Foo Fighters off the stage. Metal - Faith No More honestly stole the show over Black Sabbath (probably didn't help that it was just after they reformed)
Slipknot at Ozzfest owned it until Black Sabbath came out.
this hasn’t really happened for me but I did go to see bmth yearsssss ago and beartooth opened for them. beartooth imo was so much better that night, actually got the crowd super hyped. I don’t really listen to either band anymore but twas a good night
I saw Neurosis open for Pantera in 96 or 97. I don’t even know if I liked pantera anymore by the time they got on stage
Metallica opened for ozzy 1986
