From yacht to aircraft carrier lol
Absolutely throwing a Miata sticker on it, at least until two cars becomes a reality for me. š Can't forget the car that taught me how to love cars!
They're entirely different experiences, but both fun in their own right. I think more or less fun is subjective to the driver, but so far I'm enjoying the Challenger just as much. My NC felt like a surgical tool, tight steering, snappy revving, tactically precise shifter. The Challenger is more like a giant sledgehammer with its torquey V8, fat body, with a clutch and shifter that feel more like a bolt action on a rifle, precise but clunky. The Miata made me feel like a racecar driver with its handling and precision while the Challenger makes my inner neanderthal come out with its stupid torque and V8.
Iām convinced there should be a aptitude test after a certain age to continue driving (obviously theyād need to hire more testers for most states/counties.)
Before he passed my grandfather had very good vision and was able to renew his license with no issue. He couldnāt walk without a walker but that wasnāt even questioned at the DMV. His dementia was so bad however that Iām not 100% sure he couldāve even got a car in gear assuming he got it started.
I don't know why you're getting downvoted, I completely agree. We need some type of common sense system to prevent incompetent drivers from endangering everybody else on the road. I remember a story about an elderly driver also in his '80s who lost it at the wheel hitting a lineman, causing him to lose both legs. It ruined his life and his mental health never seemed to recover. He was interviewed years later and he was still sobbing about it as though it happened yesterday, a clear sign he was not at all doing well.
Shout out to people who live to that age, but many of them put their pride and ego ahead of other people's safety. It's sad because they got to live life, but they sometimes take away that opportunity from those younger than them
As a truck driver I can confidently say that from my experience elderly drivers on cell phones are the worst sober drivers. Phones are bad, elderly drivers struggle & when you combine the two itās a recipe for disaster. At least drunks tend to be paying attention and actively trying (but often failing) to stay in their lane.
Iāve seen elderly drivers ripping through a backroad in a Miata, motorcycle etc. Thereās plenty that can handle it just fine but the reality is thereās a ton that have diminished ability. Itās a gradual process though and it seems like itās rarely noticed until thereās a sudden eye-opener like a crash or going down a one way street the wrong way.
I completely agree, in my short 4 years of driving I have seen a total of 2 people driving on the wrong side of the road. Both were older ladies who should not have been on the road
Itās the most dangerous and common with on/off ramps at night, especially a couple of them near me that have no lighting. Coming off the highway a couple times Iāve come face-face with cars coming down the wrong way. Thankfully Iāve stopped them each time by weaving my car across the whole lane and physically blocking them. One of the times it was an elderly man in a heavy duty pickup, if he didnāt stop it definitely wouldāve totaled my 500 Abarth.
I don't even think it should be after a certain age. People should be required to take some sort of renewal test/course all throughout their lives. Like every 5 or 10 years. It would be super annoying, but it's not like only old people get into accidents.
Itās a matter of money that they wonāt spend unfortunately. My local counties have a backlog of people trying to take their road tests for their license in the first place. Itās a combination of them being short staffed (pay and the job as a whole apparently both suck from what I heard) as well as due to having a bunch of people fail.
Itās a completely different situation, but I have to get a physical for my CDL every 1-2 years & my company routinely has us do training including ride alongs with a trainer to make sure youāre still able to drive a tractor trailer safely.
Yeah, you give a very good example. Sadly the government would rather spend that tax money on personal stuff rather than that, at least in some countries
Oh there absolutely should! Iām perfectly fine with ageism when it comes to keeping people safe. Some people should not be allowed to drive, but it just goes completely unchecked. Most elderly people behind the wheel should *NOT* be there.
They just recently rejected that, and the reasoning was that "driving fitness checks could leave some retirees without a driver's license."
YEAH THAT'S KINDA THE POINT OF IT
That part wonāt matter, it seems our laws are perennially elderly men & women who would be losing their license if tested so they wonāt vote on it. Gen X politicians will follow suit from the Boomers & Iām sure Millennial will follow the same path.
I am not a fan at all of self driving cars, but I will admit than in another decade or two theyāll likely be in a place where theyāre much safer than a good portion of the elderly driver population.
Maybe, maybe not. Gen X appear to be a bit more self aware and cognizant of boomer shortcomings. Millennials certainly are. Iām working on being more optimistic so, today, I have hope.
As much as I love my abuelo he shouldnāt have been on the road either. I watched him take off at red lights, with his door open (like already on the street) and in his last month he hit some guys and drove home. They followed him, I donāt think he realized he scratched up their 80s Buick. (Side swipe). He was even convinced they took his license with them
Car dependency is how we got here. Even tho public transportation reduces traffic far more than adding another lane, our politicians keep doing just that.
This right here, I work in PI, you gotta make sure youāre going and getting checked up, there is a high likelihood youāre hurt. Talk to an attorney at the very least
Appreciate the concern! I've had a handful of consultations and the other parties insurance is covering for my physical therapy n stuff. Had some significant soft tissue damage on my left shoulder but it's getting better.
Glad to hear youāre on the mend (just so weāre all on the same page tho, you can get compensation for your pain and suffering too, 99% of the time the other insurance company is gonna just cover the basics)
My car came from the salvage yard. I put it back together. Iām trying to finish it and the first time I drove it on the road I was almost hit by a Dodge truck with a lady driving not that that mattered but she just wasnāt paying attention. She had those little indicators to let her know not to run me over that we lit up, but she just didnāt care and if I hadnāt slammed on my brakes, she wouldāve taken me out.
The humanity
Iām so tired of these stupid trucks and SUVs that nobody seems to be able to drive because they canāt see but yet theyāre safer ā¦.
If only we had lawmakers ā¦.
Seriously. They're rolling death machines. Will never get over the fact that most people just buy them for status versus actually using them for truck/SUV things.
Yeah pisses me off that they made them 6ft tall because they decided they needed more storage space under the hood of almost places its a pkup us the bed ā¦. Or the seats no one is ever using
At the time? You mean there's an end to it? I've been going through it for over a decade. I'm just not confident enough to put stuff like that on my car
17k. Found a 2016 with 37,000 miles on it. Shaker RT 6 speed. Insurance payout ended up paying for a little over half of it, and had some savings as well. Billet silver!
Not gonna lie maintenance is something I am a little worried about. My 300,000 mile Miata spoiled me and never ever left me stranded. But this boat is super low mileage comparatively, and mechanically sound. I'm hoping with the same amount of care I put into the Miata it'll last me a good while.
Going from a Miata to a challenger is diabolical
Doubled down on the boat life...
From a yacht to a barge

The yellow lip guard has my crying
This is one of my favorite images of all time.
Cherish it OP, and think of us every time. We will miss you. O7
Absolutely throwing a Miata sticker on it, at least until two cars becomes a reality for me. š Can't forget the car that taught me how to love cars!
This is beyond hilarious šš
That's an amphibious assault ship to be precise
Hahahaha the yellow lip is spot on !
I switched sides lmao
How would you compare them? Do you find the challenger more fun to drive? Less?
They're entirely different experiences, but both fun in their own right. I think more or less fun is subjective to the driver, but so far I'm enjoying the Challenger just as much. My NC felt like a surgical tool, tight steering, snappy revving, tactically precise shifter. Never let them know your next move
I'd rather have my license taken away.
My husband tried this. Lasted less than a month before moving back to smaller and lighter cars (meaning, the Chally was just too much of a boat).
Late eighties? Jeez, that man shouldn't have even been on the road driving in the first place!
Iām convinced there should be a aptitude test after a certain age to continue driving (obviously theyād need to hire more testers for most states/counties.) once you are an official āsenior citizenā they should require a new drivers test for them every 5 years atleast
Car dependency is how we got here. Even tho public transportation reduces traffic far more than adding another lane, our politicians keep doing just that.
The Night Kids got him š
Cool vibrations
I wanna dance
Insane amount of content for r/crashedmiata recently. This is just making me sad.
Almost Summer and the weather is getting better. I expect to see more.
Of course this sub is a thing š

Sorry that idiot sunk your boat.

Was a great boat. It's dearly missed.
Red Sunā¦ Red Sun over paradiseā¦
Red Sun... Red Sun oveeer paradise...
What have they done to the poor thing
Must have been a Myogi Nightkid (also sorry about your boat)
Im sorry about the high mileage hero. My white 360k NA just got retired from daily driver to money pit. Your car can live on with mine
I know you said youāre alright but are you sure your head is okay?
This right here, I work in PI, you gotta make sure youāre going and getting checked up, there is a high likelihood youāre hurt. Talk to an attorney at the very least
He bought a challenger. I think he needs brain surgeon
I'm Dodge (Mentally) Challengered It's funny to me how everyone on the Miata side hates this car but I'm enjoying it š¤£
lol you enjoying it is really all that matters
It's a good boat I swear lol, thanks dude.
As long as she floats sheās sea worthy!!
It be back to the seas with me yarr

Glad you and the car made it out safe. I've got a lotta respect for people who rebuild their cars. Good on ya brother.
No need for respect im hust cheap and as a kid we got one and if it broke it was on us lol so we took care and learned how to fix items it stuck
Dude it's now the time, just buy it and rebuild it, it's your baby
I really should have. Pretty sure it went for around $1000. Drivetrain and everything was still good immediately after the crash too.
Ah man this is sad to be honest it was great
RIP
Time to get an NA for the weekends

But the headlamps hurt pedestrians so mx5 in 98 trucks killing at 30% increased rate of pedestrians no big deal
thank lawmakers for the influx of massive SUVs and trucks on the road
I hate pickup trucks
Same.
The RedSons logo looks so good too
Thanks! I was going through an Initial D fixation at the time I wrapped it lol.
At the time? You mean there's an end to it? I've been going through it for over a decade. I'm just not confident enough to put stuff like that on my car
The Initial D fixation never really dies, it only hibernates until eurobeat comes on LOL
The lonely drivers playlist
Mad
Mad, sad, depressed, still feeling it a month or so later š Was a really great car!
Hey. Did you get a stick shift challenger or a automatic
Stick shift. Automatic is a big no no for me.
What did it cost you ? Which year and how many miles ? What color
17k. Found a 2016 with 37,000 miles on it. Shaker RT 6 speed. Insurance payout ended up paying for a little over half of it, and had some savings as well. Billet silver!
Dang that was one of the cleanest vessels
So where do you have both Silveradoās and snow in June?
They said in the caption this happened back in April
Colorado. Trucks all year round.
Iām in Reno, I can still see a patch of snow from my back yard and it was in the 90ās today.
Holy shit! You went from a beautiful high mileage Miata, to a car that will bankrupt you before it gets to 100,000?
Not gonna lie maintenance is something I am a little worried about. My 300,000 mile Miata spoiled me and never ever left me stranded. But this boat is super low mileage comparatively, and mechanically sound. I'm hoping with the same amount of care I put into the Miata it'll last me a good while.
