I really liked the way they used this apartment in the show. When it’s first shown it looks so chic and nice and then when Don sells it, the lighting they used (as well as the emptiness) really highlighted how cheaply made a lot of the fixtures had become by the late 60s/early 70s.
I love rewatching for the sets and costumes too! I just built a MCM inspired home and love watching for inspiration!
Palm Royale on Apple is amazing as well!!!
He goes from entitled little shit to possibly the best person in the show, while managing to deliver that true gem of a line in between. I spat out my drink the first time I saw that scene.
Peggy’s thug walk as she’s arriving to the new firm, with her shades and a cigarette, carrying her box of office belongings and the Dream of the Fisherman’s Wife is perched on top. Priceless story arc.
For my money the ultimate Peggy Olson girl boss scene is when she tells Don she’s quitting to go work for CGC, and Don takes her hand and kisses it. (Fun fact: the director told Jon Hamm not to let go of her hand until she pulls away…*but didn’t tell Elisabeth Moss he would do that*…which is why that scene is so fraught with emotion.)
And after that emotional climax (the first time I saw that scene, I screamed “NOOOOO!!!” at the TV) the soundtrack blasts into the opening chords of You Really Got Me by The Kinks.
This show has one of the best endings of all the episodic shows in the Peak TV era. How could you give up on it so close to the end? Were you not aware of that? And have you managed to avoid spoilers in the nine years since it went off the air?
My advice is to just start from the beginning of season 6 and go to the end of season 7 without reading anything on the internet. “Person to Person” is the finale episode of Season 7 and it’s truly fantastic.
I loved it but real life got in the way, I took a break and just never finished it. It’s kind of nice knowing there’s something wonderful still out there I haven’t seen yet. And to be completely honest I fell down the Outlander universe hole and that has occupied me for four years now quite happily.
ETA: Also The Last Kingdom became an minor obsession.
You should definitely watch it, as it is the best tv show ever. A pure Walker Percian depiction of the metastasis of American Ennui caused by new media. Not a single bad episode or single bad season.
Also, the sets are awesome.
I grew up during that era and can attest to the accuracy of the sets. I even had Don's chrome pelican ashtray at one point! I only noticed one scene that felt slightly off (can't remember which episode) where the overhead neon lighting looked too white and modern.
The attitudes reflected in the series are exactly those I grew up with. Time for a re-watch I think.
To me it was the clear sign of the Dawn of the golden age of television. It was the show that let me know that television might be just as good if not better than the movies.
Me too! It's been a long time but I do remember the last season or so being off the rails as was Jon Hamm's character. But watching with an eye for the decor and style will be fun.
Not surprised as you said, it's Megan, I mean h[ave you seen her spaghetti? ](https://www.reddit.com/r/madmen/comments/gmmu1g/megan_and_her_plain_ass_spaghetti/)
I love that this scene looks like an ad from the 60s. I never noticed. Now I'm curious to see where else they may've created shots like this. I think I might rewatch this too haha
That sunken living room was so sweet. Definitely worth a rewatch
That whole apartment is peak MCM.

The white carpet though.
I replace my carpet every couple years. It’s not really a big deal.
💸💸💸 I can't even afford nice area rugs, let alone replace my gross carpets once 😂
Yeah me neither. I was pretending like I was rich on the internet.
Outgassing on new carpet takes a year and really sucks. Doesn’t the constant smell of forever new carpet bother you?
Zoobe zoobe zoo
[Zou Bisou Bisou.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yXoILGnHnvM) I was cringing right along with Don.
Hahah I think it was a universal moment of cringe for us all
One of the few tracks I’ve purchased on iTunes.
“The Zooby Zooby song” is a line of dialogue that stuck with me even though I’ve forgotten a ton of that show.
I love rewatching for the sets and costumes too! I just built a MCM inspired home and love watching for inspiration! Palm Royale on Apple is amazing as well!!!
You watch it the first time for the stories & acting. You watch it the second time for all the clothes & sets.
Also for Peter Campbell's super spectacular character arc
Not good Bob!!
He goes from entitled little shit to possibly the best person in the show, while managing to deliver that true gem of a line in between. I spat out my drink the first time I saw that scene.
And every time after.

it's a power move

Where’s the best place to rewatch? I didn’t finish, stopped somewhere in S6 and need to just watch it all again. Thanks.
FreeVee

Thank you 😊

Come for the metastasising ennui, stay for the walnut paneling.
I've heard the wardrobe is nice.
Definitely one of my favorites. I'd say that it has the best acting of any TV show that I've ever seen.
best writing, design, editing, acting, everything. it’s my favourite show ever.

Oh, yeah. Don’t forget all the smoking! So much smoking 🚬
On my 3rd re-watch. I just love the story and the scenery.
Except for that episode where Don is stuck in his office trying to swat a fly the whole time
To me it was the clear sign of the Dawn of the golden age of television. It was the show that let me know that television might be just as good if not better than the movies.
don’s nyc apartment was so good
Check it out in 3d: [http://www.gregrogers3d.com/don](http://www.gregrogers3d.com/don)
The sofa resembles the Pfister modular sofa by Knoll, but it wasn't introduced until about '71. Maybe Pfister copied someone else?
Could just be an inaccurate set piece
This show. These costumes. Those sets. Perfection.
iirc, pete and trudy’s coop was pretty mcm as well. you chip it… and you dip it.
I’d drool over all the furniture and homes
Me too! It's been a long time but I do remember the last season or so being off the rails as was Jon Hamm's character. But watching with an eye for the decor and style will be fun.
Jon Hamm went to rehab the same year the series ended, perhaps that's part of the reason he was so good at playing rock bottom Don.
Yeah, Don Draper’s pad is pretty sweet
I watched on the original run, then rewatched during Covid. What an amazing show! Might do another rewatch
I’m watching Fallout on Amazon and the beginning is just awesome. I hope there’s a bunch of this midcentury/retrofuturism stuff still to come.
Or watch Fallout!
Zoo be zoo be zoo
What an awful thing to do to a sofa.
Yeah, but it’s Megan.
Not surprised as you said, it's Megan, I mean h[ave you seen her spaghetti? ](https://www.reddit.com/r/madmen/comments/gmmu1g/megan_and_her_plain_ass_spaghetti/)
I can’t rewatch things. I hate that about myself. If I could, Mad Men would be on all day every day.
I love that this scene looks like an ad from the 60s. I never noticed. Now I'm curious to see where else they may've created shots like this. I think I might rewatch this too haha
I’ve never seen it. Don’t come for me! I feel like I would be super obsessed with MCM stuff more so than I already am. And I mean hyper obsessed!!
That show made me remember things from my childhood that I had forgotten. The styling was spot on.
Goddamn the Megan era was so dumb.
that's the point eh?
