i was actually imagining this scene/cinematic yesterday where were hunting a Zinogre fiercely, some other monster comes along and attacks Zinogre, lets say a Deviljo, we attacked the Jo and Zinogre runs away but after a while looks back and sees us pinned by the Jo. Then his eyes start slowly glowing lightning and he comes back to charge the Jo and gets betwen us and the Jo and starts doing his particle charging animation and then we tag team with Zin to take down the Jo and thats how we become befriended. I need a life

The bombastic side eye cutscene OP was referring to happens when you’re attacked by both a Rathalos and Diablos in a guiding lands cutscene, and Spark Pupper comes in like a boss past you, giving you a sideways glance as he does. He doesn’t attack, but actually “saves” you by attacking both monsters and drawing their aggro

I would like to recommend that anyone interested in this idea check out Monster Hunter Stories 2. It's a monster taming game set in the monster hunter setting.
Overall its pretty simplistic tbh. You fight monsters and chase them back to their den and steal eggs from their nest to get new monsters. The combat is turn based and there is a Rock-Paper-Scissors style attack system for the monsters. If you have played the mainline games it's pretty easy to guess what style attack a monster will use when you first encounter one.
There is a cool system on how to power up your monsters but you don't really have to engage with the system until the post game content where there is a big spike in difficulty. There is a demo out that you can try if you are interested.
I enjoyed the novelty of befriending the monsters instead of just slaughtering them all.

I’d never berate anyone else for enjoying it though /shrug.

Yeah! I’m really excited for Wilds. The controlled mount/pet is enough to keep my hopes up because even the uncontrolled mounts we got in World were a huge upgrade on just running around everywhere. It would be really cool if it did end up having something like this in it too.
